Iced tea (complimentary) Free iced tea + water right when you sit down -- actually refreshing, perfect on a hot day
    Jonathan Y.

We had zero plans to eat out and randomly ended up here on the way home from being way out of our usual zone... and my wife literally said, "we did good with this place." That pretty much sums it up. To be real -- we didn't even have the brain cells to read reviews or compare spots... because Jameson was screaming bloody murder in the backseat So we pulled up Google Maps, typed "soba noodles," and picked the place with the most legit-sounding name. Absolute gamble... and somehow we hit. We walked in with two kids already in full meltdown mode, snacks packed just in case... and somehow this turned into one of those meals where everyone ended up eating everything. Right away, they brought out cold water AND iced tea -- both complimentary, which hit perfect on a hot day. And the tea was actually good. Then you look around and realize... most of the tables are speaking Japanese. That's always a green flag. First move: manager's special combo -- no-brainer. You get sushi, tempura, noodles, salad... basically everything we would've ordered anyway for the price of one dish elsewhere. Perfect when your brain is fried and you just need it handled. We also grabbed a kids meal with cold soba, and this is where it got strategic. My wife took the soba + salad (smart move), the kids went straight for the onigiri, and it comes with a toy AND dessert. Way better value than ordering separate plates for kids who might not even eat. Food highlights: Agedashi tofu -- huge portion, crispy outside, soft inside. Kids crushed the tofu, I handled the mountain of mushrooms Katsu curry -- straight comfort food. Big portion too... we tapped out, Luna stepped in and gave it 7 thumbs up Udon -- simple, clean, and comforting (kids kept going back to it) Sushi -- fresh, straightforward, done right Drinks were a win too -- large hot sake + large Sapporo for a price that honestly felt like a steal. Now let's be clear -- I'm not saying this place has the best sushi, the best soba, the best udon, the best tempura, the best agedashi tofu, or the best katsu curry... But they had ALL of it... and ALL of it was GOOD. And somehow... my kids were quiet, happy, and eating everything like it was home-cooked. That alone is a win you can't measure on a Yelp star scale. If you're trying to nitpick like a food critic, this probably isn't your spot. But if you're just a normal human being -- especially with kids -- looking for a place that actually works... We got all that food, drinks, a happy wife, happy kids, and made it through a chaotic day... for under $80. Hands down, the best place to get all of that and still walk out with a happy wife, happy kids, and zero regrets. Yeah... this place won. And like my wife said -- we did good with this place.

Nice & quick service on a Wednesday night Order a 3 hand roll combo with hot udon & the tempura bowl ($65) The food tastes fresh & feels very cozy inside. I love their combo options on the menus, great variety to try multiple options on the menu. My boyfriend loves the tempura here & the sauce was amazing

Food is reasonable. There is a Manager's special that has a variety of yummies. Sashimi sushi, hot or cold soba or udon , tempura shrimp and veggies , and a salad for under $20. I had the nabeyaki udon it was delicious lots of chicken, there was also a rib eye steak with rice and carrots ,and five piece shrimp tempura fried to perfection. Service was excellent. Bathrooms were clean one person at a time. Atmosphere is nice . I recommend this place.

This little gem of a place has the best lunch special. $15 for a soup, salad, sushi & tempura. All of that for $15!!!! I got there right before opening & was seated immediately. The line just kept getting longer & longer. I noticed the owner who was an older Japanese woman going around all the tables including ours to Mae sure everything was great. (Always a nice feeling for the owner to come around.)

Meh. You come here to get full not for taste. Stumbled upon this place after scrolling through Yelp for a Japanese spot. Been trying to find different Japanese spots in South Bay. This place ain't it though. This place is like a Japan Salaryman lunch. Taste isn't particular good, but you get a lot of food for your money. My SO got the sushi, udon, salad, tempura lunch combo. Salad was okay. Udon was very bland and not much taste. Lots of noodles though. The sushi was not good. Fish was terrible quality. Worse than the fish you can get at all you can eat spots and Costco. The rice was terrible. texture aint right and kept falling apart. The tempura was decent though. Probably the best part of her meal. I got the Katsudon combo with the udon. My udon came with tempura flakes. It was just as bland as the one from my SO. Soup had very very little taste. the Katsudon wasn't anything special either. Not that great. Bland and pork katsu was whatever. Overall, overrated spot. If you set your expectations right, then sure this place is ok, but this isn't a foodie spot. Would not come back again.

    Oyako Don Combo

Came here on a Tuesday and there was no wait, but it was pretty crowded. Sat down and was served iced tea which was really refreshing. We ordered the managers special and oyako don. The prices were cheap for the amount of food we got. I was debating between the managers special and the shrimp tempura don. But I think the managers special variety was nice. It was very filling and the price was worth it. The restaurant was decorated nice and the partition in the middle of the room felt like it gave every party some privacy.

I have not been back in years since I don't live near this restaurant. I came by for lunch and the food was delicious. We had the manager special. $18 It came with6 pcs of sushi, hot or cold udon or soba, shrimp & veggie tempura and a salad. The portion was generous. Friendly service. Plenty of parking. We came at 11:45 and no wait but people started lining up by noon. Plenty of tables for small and large group. Plenty of parking in the lot. The menu prices are very reasonable.

Came back on Saturday, 2/7/26 for my birthday month. The service is still top notch, food still delicious! I think the ribeye steak in the past was a bigger portion but it's still great for the price. Relaxing and family friendly restaurant. One of our go to places for a satisfying meal.

I came here for their lunch special. They usually have a line out the door but I came on a rainy day at 11:30 am right when they open. We got seated right away and got the special and for $15.75 it's amazing assorted sushi, hand roll, tempura and udon plus a yummy side salad. Def worth it.

Such an excellent lunch special for just $15! The food was very solid, and I genuinely enjoyed my meal. The servers were incredibly efficient, kind, and attentive throughout. I also appreciated the simple, cozy ambiance--nothing over the top, just comfortable and welcoming. I'll probably bring my mom here next time.

I can't believe that in all my years of visiting the South Bay, I didn't know about this place until just a few weeks ago. Now that I know, though, I will 100% be returning! I visited for lunch on a Sunday around 2, and it was pretty busy but we were seated in about 10 minutes. The restaurant is fairly small and cozy. Upon being seated, the server immediately brought over some complimentary iced tea, which was unexpected and great. All of my family members and I opted to try the manager's special, which comes with sushi, tempura, salad, and your choice of hot or cold soba or udon. I thought the food was great. Perfectly balanced--nothing felt overly heavy, and I left feeling full but not like I was going to burst. The salad dressing was very good, and I thought the tempura batter was also very light and crispy. My cold soba and sushi were both pretty standard. For under $20, you really can't get a better deal anywhere else. I am looking forward to returning and trying more of their fairly expansive menu.

Had a very nice lunch. Was seated quickly during rush hour. Service was fast. Food was fresh, though be aware they serve complimentary tea - it's BARLEY! So if you have celiacs, do not drink it thinking it's green tea. Ambiance is decent.

This place in Torrance by close to the japanese market Nijiya. There is plenty of parking when I went however, the restaurant is small. This place is pretty authentic and the food is fantastic. There are things on the menu that are not in typical japanese restaurants that I grew up on which made my day. My mother loves coming here before we go shopping in Nijiya. They quickly acknowledged us and sat us down promptly. I began to notice how we came in a good time because they quickly became busy. People were waiting outside to be seated in. The place is very simple but quaint. If you want good japanese food that it's authentic, this is the place to go to if you're in the area.

I am disappointed in myself for waiting this long to try Ueno Sushi. I've been driving by this location on Carson st for 10 years. It used to be something else (Thai maybe?) before it was a sushi restaurant. I think it was something else before that. I never went here because I thought the food would be mediocre given the history of changes but I was so wrong. SO WRONG! I came here on a Friday night for a party of 1 and while the restaurant was full and many customers were coming in for their reservations, I did not have to wait. The Sashimi Combo 10pc was surprisingly generous. Every single piece of sashimi was huge. I honestly thought they forgot to cut each piece in half lol. It also comes with a bowl of rice, salad, and miso soup. I finished the night with blue fin toro sushi. For those who might find themselves confused like me, this is labeled Sushi on the menu, but it is better labeled as nigiri -- the sashimi on a small ball of rice. It comes with two pieces and the tuna was HUGE. I almost couldn't see the rice! I was blown away by what I was getting but it makes sense given the price I was paying. I was so happy. Overall, great food, wonderful portion sizes. Downside is the pricing but it matches what you're getting. The biggest downside is the parking. It is the corner space of an outdoor plaza, most known for the 85C Bakery off of Carson. If you enter the lot from Abalone Ave, youʻll see it right away. The exterior is very unassuming, but interior is spacious, clean and contemporary Japanese. The service is excellent and the quality is very good. I want to say the price is reasonable for the quality you are getting. It is more like a ala cart experience, so it can get pricey real fast! I did get my steak (Angus NY strip loin) and it was cooked perfectly medium rare. I wouldʻve liked it a little more charred on the outside, but it was still great. She got the A5 wagyu teppanyaki and crab which was very fresh. Those were off the appetizer menu so those portions were VERY small. We both ordered one piece each of shrimp tempura, which was really good (big, fresh piece of shrimp) and crispy clean batter. Iʻm still on the search for the best shrimp tempura tho. Iʻm talking light airy batter with the panko like crust. This wasnʻt that, but it was very very good. I need to go back for the daily seafood bowls, which looked like the real star here.

It takes a lot for me to be blown away when it comes to food and this place was it for me. Our…read morefriends introduced us to this place and it was spectacular! The ambiance is great, not so loud and the vibes are perfect for night out with the girls or even date night. We came in a group and just ordered family style but I started off with the Beef BBQ Yakiniku salad and it was so delicious I didn't share this particular plate it was so flavorful. Their Gobo Chips are a must along with their Doteni Braised Beef Tongue and that was my favorite so simple and that bite was perfection. Their chicken and green onion skewers those were finger licking good the chicken was so tender. We finished off with the Shabu shabu hot pot and that broth was so flavorful and all the cabbage, spinach and noodles were great! Everything we had was delicious and can't wait to go back and try some other items. Their customer service was great, we were a group of 6 and everything came out quick and we were able to enjoy our tasty food and drinks.

Made a reservation several days in advance because this place is usually hard to walk into, but…read morewhen we arrived the restaurant was not really busy and even walk-ins could have been seated easily. What was most disappointing was how rushed the service felt. About an hour into the meal, staff repeatedly tried to clear plates that we were still eating from, and we had to tell them more than once that we were not finished. After asking whether we wanted more drinks and hearing that we were fine, they brought the bill almost immediately, which made it feel like they were trying to push us out. Meanwhile, other tables that arrived before us were still comfortably dining and talking. We had also ordered more than enough food--honestly more than several other tables around us--so there was no reason for our table to be rushed out. Most restaurants typically allow at least a two-hour dining window, yet we ended up leaving in just about one hour because the pressure to leave was so obvious. Ironically, the food was actually excellent, but the staff's behavior completely overshadowed the meal and made it hard to even remember how good the food was. Since this was noted as a special occasion, the experience felt especially disappointing. Rather than feeling welcomed, we felt pressured to leave. Would not recommend this place for a birthday or any special occasion.
