I stopped by Kimukatsu inside Torrance Central Mall after noticing the realistic food displays outside the restaurant. Everything looked delicious so I decided to place a to-go order for the Chicken Katsu. The food itself was excellent. The chicken was perfectly cooked, crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside and the overall quality exceeded my expectations. If I were rating the food alone, it would easily deserve 5 stars. Unfortunately, the overall experience was affected by the service. My to-go order took over 30 minutes and I wasn't given an estimated wait time when I placed the order. If the kitchen is running behind, simply informing customers of the expected wait would make a big difference. While waiting, I noticed the dining room seemed understaffed. Despite the restaurant being quite busy, there appeared to be only two front-of-house staff members. Service understandably fell behind and several customers had to walk their checks to the counter just to pay. The staff were constantly moving and looked overwhelmed, to the point where it felt difficult to even ask a simple question. It's disappointing because the food is genuinely outstanding. The biggest issue isn't the quality of the meal--it's that the current service system doesn't seem equipped to handle the volume of customers. With better staffing and clearer communication about wait times, I believe the overall dining experience could match the excellent food. I'd definitely come back for the katsu, but I hope management improves the operational side of the restaurant.

On our way to San Diego, we stopped by Tokyo Central (since there is non near me in SFV), to pick up some teas that they carry here and snacks...and we wanted lunch too, and WHOA!! There's a restaurant connected to Tokyo Central!! What a perfect start of our vacation!! It was so pretty inside and we were seated quickly (we beat lunch crowd). Service was nice and I loved the selection of the lunch items they offered. I ordered their Special Combination Box...I love how they have a little bit of everything, I actually love the cooked fish!! But I have to say, I'm addicted to their Sesame Dressing!!! LOL! I was stuffed when I was done. Great portion for lunch time!

The restaurant is located in the Tokyo Central Market on PCH and Hawthorne. It was very open and clean. Our service was good; they were very friendly and polite. The food. We ordered the loin and tenderloin katsu. Since it was our first time we wanted to try both. The loin katsu was good and very we made. The tenderloin katsu was very tender as the name states. Both I really enjoyed, just depends on if you like a more firmer meat to softer meat. Both were still crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The soup 'ton jiru' was very tasty as well, just wish the had Japanese red chili flakes to garnish. Will definitely come back here.

Had seen that Kimukatsu had recently opened at the new Tokyo Central in Torrance on PCH and had wanted to try it. When I first arrived, it was not super busy, maybe 3 other tables with customers/diners. There was no one to great you and standing at the entrance no one came and asked if I'd like to be seated for over 5 minutes. I did put my name in on the Yelp waitlist kiosk, and eventually a server came out to check the kiosks, then noticed me and asked if I was dine in or take out. This will be my only complaint about Kimukatsu, they need staff to be more aware of new customers walking in. I ordered a chicken and shrimp combo. The food was excellent, the salad was flavorful, the chicken katsu hot and crispy, while the chicken inside was moist and tender. The seasoning for the katsu was perfect. Shrimp was good as well. Also loved the soup! All in all, was a good experience and the food was delicious. Hoping to see this place thrive as the sushi place in the location previously did not last long, was good, but overpriced. If you want katsu perfectly prepared, come here and give it a try,.

Traditional Japanese fare. I ordered the Seafood set which was ample-sized and crispy crunchy! Great food! Service was ok. I say that because we were initially going to be seated at a booth for our party of five. We requested another available table. Our orders for the garlic chicken came out wrong but the server insisted it was the right order. Later admitted it was wrong after we had already started eating. This could have been very bad if there were allergies in our party. Overall, food is great.

I highly recommend this place. I went for lunch with my family and every dish was delicious. Wonderful service and I will be returning.

My wife and I had a lunch date here with her seeing "a place I'd like" on a recent shopping trip to Tokyo central. It was tasty and filling with the meal set. In fact I wasn't able to eat all of the rice, which was very good quality along with the pork, of which I ordered the garlic one. As delicious as the pork was, the pork broth miso soup, and a salad all filled me up where I couldn't finish the wife's katsu. The server was great with water, food delivery, and getting the check. I did try to use the QR code but my AT&T service was weak there so it was really laggy to the point of not being usable. They will need a WiFi hotspot if they plan to use that exclusively. The servers were on top of taking orders and everything, so it didn't matter today. Glad a new good food place has come into the area.

curry with chicken katsu :) - p.s. I asked for no rice because I'm low-carb but usually, of course, there's rice on the platter! :)

Our 2nd visit at Kimukatsu! They've expanded their menu to include "tonkatsu" now in addition to "kimukatsu". My hubby got the "pork loin tonkatsu" and I got the curry with chicken katsu (I think you can get any katsu with curry, maybe double-check with the waitstaff). We also ordered a single shrimp katsu (you can get 1 or 4) and it was SO GOOD OMG, it was delicious. Again, hands down, my hubby's fav part of the meal was the "Tonjiru" or pork soup. He really loves this (and he drank mine too LOL). I'd be interested in trying the seafood katsu & my hubby wants to try their other tonkatsu dish. But we'll def be fighting over the shrimp LOL. Highly recommend~!!!

I visited Kimukatsu near opening, and that Special Pork Cheese Millefeuille Katsu Set left a bit to be desired. The pork was definitely on the thinner end, and it was also a tad dry. The breading was remarkable, though, and it was crispy and crunchy without being a hint of oily. There were refills on cabbage and rice. The rice was fluffy and just the right portion for the modest amount of meat. The cabbage was also tasty and a good amount, though the dressing definitely needed a refill. Service was fairly quick throughout, and the meal was satisfactory. May return again in the future to satisfy katsu cravings if nearby. The atmosphere was fairly enjoyable, too, and felt very natural.

If you're getting tonkatsu to-go, I highly recommend this place! Made with a 25-layer mille-feuille technique, their tonkatsu is still delicious even after it cools down. Their pork miso soup was sooo good too! I was also so happy to find melon cream soda -- it's hard to find in CA!

We had wanted to go here for a while, so when we finally got the time to go, we did. We ordered the pork garlic katsu, pork mille fleur, and the plain pork katsu, which came with sides too. All of the food was good, but the highlight was definitely the salad!

Kimikatsu, is a restaurant located inside Tokyo Central in Torrance. The parking is plentiful in the Tokyo Central lot, which makes the whole experience stress-free. The ambiance is simple and clean and good for a quick meal with family. We've been here twice, and overall had a good experience, with a few things that could be improved. First visit: We ordered the Special Pork Cheese Millefeuille Katsu Set ($19.50), Special Pork Garlic Millefeuille Katsu Set ($19.50), Kid's Plate ($8.75), and Chawanmushi ($3.25). The portions were a great size for the price, and we appreciated the free refills of rice and cabbage. The only hiccup was with timing - my husband and I received our meals, but our daughter's kid's plate didn't come out with ours. After waiting a bit, we asked a server, and she quickly apologized and brought it out, mentioning it should have come first. We also asked for a booster seat, but they didn't have one - however, they kindly offered a pillow for our daughter, which we appreciated. When we ate our food, the dishes ended up being lukewarm, not sure if it was because we had to wait for the kid's plate...but we didn't think much of it since the food was still good. Second visit: I ordered the Ume Oroshi Set, and once again, the millefeuille katsu wasn't very hot. The flavors were still good, but it felt like it would've been much better if served hot. Maybe this one was not hot because of the Ume oroshi? I preferred the Pork garlic over the Ume oroshi. Overall, the food is tasty and a good value, especially with the generous portions and refills. The concept of the layered millefeuille katsu is unique and enjoyable. The service was friendly and accommodating, especially when issues came up. That said, I do wish the food - especially the katsu and soup - came out hotter, as it would really make the food taste better. Still, we'd come back again for the value and flavors.

Absolutely delicious! The katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside and incredibly tender and juicy on the inside. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. The rice, miso soup, and cabbage were fresh and complemented the meal perfectly. The staff was friendly, attentive, and provided excellent service. The restaurant was clean, welcoming, and had a great atmosphere. I highly recommend Kimukatsu to anyone craving authentic Japanese tonkatsu. I'll definitely be back!

The pork and wagyu skewers were masterfully executed as well, coming off the grill tender, juicy, and packed with rich, smoky flavor. The toasted eihire (stingray/filefish) was another great traditional touch, perfectly chewy and ideal for dipping in the spiced Japanese mayo my favorite.. On the flip side, a few dishes lacked the depth I was hoping for. The chicken karaage was fried well, but the flavor itself was a bit bland and needed more seasoning or marination and soft. The pressed rice rolls also fell flat, particularly the mentaiko roll.. it felt skimpy on the cod roe, and because the mentaiko seemed cooked through, it missed that fresh, raw texture and punchy brine that makes the dish shine. As for the space, it's quite dark, compact, and packed tightly with tables, which makes it feel a bit cramped when it's busy. However, seeing the dining room constantly full tells me that their best dishes keep people coming back. While there were some inconsistencies in taste, the highlights made it a solid experience, and I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu and updating my score!

I have eaten here only 3 or 4 times. The most recent was a retirement lunch for a work friend. We…read morehad a group of 11 and the handled it really well. They not only had a space that big, but it also felt private. The staff was super attentive. The food is great. I ordered a rainbow roll. All the fish was super fresh. Even though we had a large group, we all got our food at around the same time. It was a great lunch for our work pal.

We chose Ise-Shima at the Miyako Hotel for an early birthday celebration with my parents, wife,…read morechildren, sister and nephews. It should have been an easy win. The room is beautiful. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
