Starbird, you're a star! I love this place for their salads. It's definitely a portion size for 2 meals. I ordered the chopped salad double grilled chicken breast. I saw they added wings.... So yk ya girl had to try some. I ordered an 8pc half buffalo half garlic parm. Garlic parm wings were hitting. They were CRUNCHY! I was like wooooooow. Delicious. Wingstop who?! But then I had the Buffalo... these were more on the soggy side unfortunately. I was sad that they didn't have the same crunch as the garlic parm, so I'm dinging a star off for this. My friend treated me to lunch here recently. Starbird is located on Hawthorne Blvd where the former Spire's Restaurant was. We were welcomed in on a Saturday afternoon. There is an option to order at the kiosk or counter. We chose to order from the counter since it was our first time. We both went with the Big Star chicken sandwich. My friend opted for no Star sauce and had mine included. Crispy breaded and tasty! I also got fries for my side. Those were good. I like their selection of beverages. They have some refreshing drinks to choose from including sparkling water. Dining area was super clean and service was pleasant. Parking is easy in the plaza shared with other restaurants and the grocery store has since closed permanently. So there are plenty of parking spaces. Overall a great experience. 4 stars. read more

I really wish we had Starbird in San Diego, this location in Torrance is the closest to me. I have also been to the one in Hermosa Beach before, but the parking is much better here. I really like the Elote chop salad, and it was big enough to feed both of us. I like that you have so many sauce and glaze options for the wings, and I like to use the Thai Herb Aioli as my salad dressing or dip for wings. I also like that there's a big choice in how you can get your chicken: standard wings, boneless wings, tenders, or nuggets. And the glaze choices, and dips. My favorite is strips or boneless wings. The churros were pretty good, but they're not my favorite. They are thinner loops, but I prefer the thicker ones that are a little softer inside the crunch. I probably wouldn't bother ordering them again. Ordering was easy on the kiosk, especially if you want to customize ingredients. You can also order on the app, which would save on the wait time. I was using giftcards, which were a little more complicated to use on the kiosk but not a deal-breaker. Parking was easy because it's in a large shopping center with other businesses. read more

The good: I got the Korean sesame fried chicken salad, a hot chicken sandwich and a kids meal (chicken nuggets and fries). The chicken had a great texture. The crispy batter wasn't too hard. The Korean salad was sweet and had SO much crunch (from radish, cucumbers, fried wonton strips, green lettuce, and chicken). I liked that the cucumber slices were tiny and small. It was cute and fine. Even the drinks were great! I tried the mango (green?) tea and pineapple limeade. I liked the ease of the self-ordering kiosk. The food came out promptly. There was both indoor and outdoor seating. If you're sitting outdoors you can see your name be called on a TV screen and there's an outdoor window for you to get your food. Our food was personally brought out to us by a server. There's plenty of parking. The salad was massive and filling. The bad: I wish it didn't cost an extra dollar to make the chicken extra spicy. Dont get the chicken strips! I was craving chicken strips and have had their chicken sandwiches which have been great every single time. They looked deformed and overcooked, and were as hard as a rock. Im not sure if they were severely overcooked or if they were just sitting around for a day and then they reheated it, because thats exactly how they tasted. They were so hard my jaw started to hurt from chewing the first tender. They were also flavorless. For chicken tenders do not go here. Update : I never put in a ticket (i dont even know how), this is my first time complaining about this issue, and I never received a response prior to their lie about a previous ticket. The food is VERY tasty, though this is definitely not the place to go if you're even remotely in a hurry. The service was very friendly, but definitely not efficient. After waiting a while, they ended up giving my order to another customer. They immediately said they'd remake my order, but that, of course, took even more time. Once I got my paws on my order of Japanese BBQ tenders, they were almost delicious enough to make me forget the logistical snafu...until I saw them have a similar incident with 2 other customers. If I can't eat your fry standalone without dipping it in sauce, leave it off the menu I say. The brussel sprouts on the other hand was full of flavor, enhanced by the saracha aioli sauce. Tried this new location recently and tried their chicken nuggets. These nuggets are probably the biggest I've seen at anyplace. I also ordered a couple of dipping sauces to go with them. The chicken was moist and the coating/breading has a nice taste to it. When I visited they took awhile to take my order since it looked like they were doing a lot of on-line orders. There is a big parking lot available so that's no problem. The service when they did finally get to me was good. If I go back I'll probably try one of their salads that looked pretty good. read more

The chicken strips were crispy, seasoned and a decent size. The masala fries while good, were not my cup of tea given it was so many overwhelming flavors and the mint sauce took over the whole flavor component of the fries. This is my second Starbird review. My first began with the utter hassle of trying to use their kiosk to order. Today was even worse. As I said I'm very computer savy. But this was a total exercise in frustration. I made a selection and went back to order a side dish. Doing cancelled out my first selection. I selected the side and went back to select the main dish and, again, th side dish disappeared. I gave up at that point. I noticed other people trying to use the kiosks and they looked flustered and confused and, like me, ordered at the register. Now I have to be really fair when I say Starbird's food of good - but not for everyone. I ordered the plain wings and the Elote Street Corn. I don't like spicy foods and figured the sauces would be more than enough. The wings and the corn were out pretty quick and I sat down to eat. As I said Starbird's food is not for everyone and I guess I'm just mot that one. The wings were breaded and so deep fried that, even with their Star sauce, they were hard to eat. To me they were beyond deep fried and somewhere around distasteful. I only ordered 8 wings, I ate 5 and tossed the rest. I was expecting the Elote Street Corn to leave me with a better feeling but was I wrong. The corn was so heavily spiced it had the wrong sort of "kick" to it. One could barely taste the corn through all the seasoning which might have been great for some and terrible for me. I don't like leaving bad reviews and this is more about my personal enjoyment and not a general dislike for the entire world to read. I've been to many restaurants where the choices are limited but I cannot r call a time when I totally disliked everything I ordered. It's sort of like out of 100 people a few will just wish they had eaten someplace else. The place was clean and looked great. The staff members very friendly. The kiosks are terrible. Located in a plaza with plenty of parking and across the street from Del Amo mall. We walked in and were immediately greeted by an employee. There was a set of kiosks you can order from, as well as the option to order from an employee. We ordered the Thai spice chicken tenders. It came with a side of fries and 1-2 sauces. We chose the herb aoli and truffle aoli. The chicken tenders were actually really really good. It was glazed with a sweet and savory sauce, and topped with cilantro and dried shallots. It was crispy and juicy, and the they were a large size! The herb aoli sauce paired the best with the tenders. The 4 pc tenders is definitely shareable between 2 hungry people. It was around $15 for this order. The food came out really fast, and the employee was really sweet. I'd definitely come back if I was craving tenders. read more

It's in the same spot that used to be the old Spires Restaurant, but they constructed a whole new building in its place. You can order at one of the self-serve kiosks or at the register with an employee. They have an electronic boards that lists the status of your order which is helpful! Their menu basically consists of their fried chicken in different forms--tenders, salads, sandwiches, and nuggets. Their chicken is tasty and crispy on the outside, I'm a fan! I enjoy getting their tenders, and I love that they have so many choices of sauces to choose from (no joke, it's 12 sauces!). I also really like their salads! It makes me feel a little healthier getting a salad, but the crispy chicken on top makes me want to keep eating it! I've been enjoying their Avo Cabo Crunch Salad with crispy chicken, romaine/cabbage blend, grape tomato, pickled red onion, tajin jicama, cotija pepitas, cilantro, tajin, avocado mash, and avocado dressing. I tried their Nashville HotBird Sandwich for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by it! I'm not usually a Nashville chicken fan, but this one was good! This has got to be the one of the best, (or the best ) chicken joints I've ever been too. The Thai chicken salad with garlic herb aioli was amazing! Chicken was super crispy and tender, salad was made with fresh lettuce, carrots, cucumber slices and the dressings were savory! The staff is amazing, courteous, and super helpful, got my order in and out within 15 minutes. Would definitely recommend stopping here if you want fast food and service. Starbird Chicken made an excellent first impression during the grand opening of their Torrance, California location which I had the pleasure of checking out on June 23, 2025. It was a well orchestrated grand opening with plenty of friendly employees. The place was clean, modern, and everyone appeared very excited and happy to be there! I arrived during my designated time slot and noticed most guests were placing their orders via self-serve kiosks. I guess I understand the convenience and speed of the kiosk systems, I'm still a talk-to-a-real-person kind of person, so I opted to wait for a cashier which, in full transparency, did take a bit longer than expected. That said, the woman at the counter was very sweet, friendly, and helpful, and I appreciated her patience. I ordered the Starbird 2.0 Sandwich (crispy chicken fillet) with a side of fries and I'm happy to report that I made the right call. The sandwich was deliciously crispy, flavorful, and not too spicy which was perfect for me because I can't handle a lot of heat. The fries were tasty and dipping them in the roasted garlic aioli made them even better!! OH and a small but meaningful highlight? When I picked up my order, one of the employees offered me a free cookie as part of the opening celebration! It was such a sweet (literally!) and thoughtful gesture that made the experience even more memorable :-D Overall, this was a great first visit though the staff clearly cared about making a good impression. My only real critique is the kiosks...I genuinely miss the warmth and personal touch of human interactions when ordering - and the ability to ask questions! A chicken specialty shop. They have generally big portions so if you're a light eater, ordering the kids menu may be a wiser selection. Despite there being an ordering kiosk where the staff works, when I went, they only allowed kiosk ordering. Despite it being a chicken shop, I ended up getting their okonomiyaki fries lol. One of my friends had told me about their recent feature of the Japanese flavoring. When i heard that, the Japanese in me was thinking sus, but also intrigued. The fries genuinely smelled like okonomiyaki lol. They drench the fries with mayo, their rendition of the otafuku sauce (okonomiyaki sauce), and ginger. The kind of ginger they used was not for okonomiyaki but more for sushi, so I felt that the juice those ginger comes in makes the sauce unnecessarily sweet. I kinda wish they used the red ginger one as it's a bit more spicy in the ginger-kind of way. I wish I asked for the sauce on the side, it was a bit too sweet for my liking so a hint of it would have been better than my fries swimming in them. Regardless, overall it smelled like an ononomiyaki and I enjoyed my fries. They had a fried chicken version of it. My coworker said it was pretty good. They also have house-made drinks like mango green tea, black iced-tea. I had the mango green. It was pretty sweet so it tasted more like juice than tea, but regardless, I enjoyed it. Second South Bay location! Starbird sure has come a long way in the South Bay since I first checked them out back in 2022 for a Yelp Elite experience at their ghost kitchen location in Hawthorne. Shortly after that ghost location stint they opened up their first official South Bay location in Hermosa Beach. Now they have their second official South Bay restaurant right here in Torrance! Starbird Chicken Torrance took over the location that once was housed by Spires. A whole new restaurant facility was built. (Mendocino Farms will be taking the second half of this facility). This new spot is cozy and cute. The employees are super friendly and you can either order up front at the counter or at the computer kiosk. They have a cool screen that shows you the status of your order. For my first visit here; I got to try out their chicken wings and truffle fries. I got Garlic Parmesan Wings and Lemon Pepper Wings along with Truffle Fries. The wings came out hot and fresh. I loved the perfect golden crisp of the chicken wing skin. These wings paired well with the truffle friesx Their tagline is "Positively Delicious Chicken" and I can definitely say the chicken is indeed delicious. Located in Plaza del Amo Center, Starbird sits next door/north of Mendocino Farms with plenty of parking surrounding the restaurant. There's no drive-thru or nearby reserved spots for quick takeout pick-ups. The dining room is small with patio dining available, but not all tables offer shade. There's 2 unisex restrooms in the back that are clean & well-stocked. The only thing I would prefer is a lock that indicates if it's available or occupied. According to Starbird's website, their Crispy Chicken is never treated with antibiotics, always fresh, never frozen, & individually hand breaded in their secret blend of gluten-free flour & spices. I likened Starbird to In & Out, made-to-order freshness for chicken instead of burgers. I walked up the a line out the door & just lined up, figuring that someone inside will inform the VIP guests how to claim their free entree. While waiting, Austin stepped out to welcome the new guests in line & explained the process. I waited 10-mins. & was able to place my order on 1 of 3 kiosks. You can also place your order at the counter with the cashier. While waiting for my lunch, I chitchatted with Austin & traded local favs of Japanese restaurants. My order was ready in 12-mins. with a couple dozen customers ahead of me. That's quick! The salad had some heft to it. It was tasty, light, & refreshing! I didn't feel a food coma coming with so much yummy food. The yuzu sesame dressing was fantabulous! They need to bottle the stuff & sell it as a standalone... I've been on a yuzu craving streak, & this citrusy dressing really hit the spot! The fries were pretty good only because the skin/outer layer wasn't as crisp; they were better in subsequent visits. I came back a few more times to be crowned Yelp Duchess... can't bring myself to order the sandwiches or tenders yet because of my salad addiction. Kids loved the kid's meals: tenders & nuggets, but would have preferred the lemonade fountain over a juice box; older likes the tenders, younger favors the nuggets. The churros had a crisp shell with soft insides, & served with maple syrup; I would prefer if the batter has some spices like cinnamon or nutmeg, or coated with cinnamon sugar after frying. Just recently opened and ad their Grand Opening yesterday (June 27, 2025)! Welcome to Torrance! This new chicken shop has opened up across the way from Amazon Fresh. It is west of Hawthorne Blvd and easily visible from the road. Next door to it will be Mendocino Farms. We've eaten here twice already. The staff is very helpful with guiding customers to either the kiosks or to a live person at a cash register. After ordering at the kiosk, I kept a lookout at the TV Screen which indicates the status of your order. If you download the Starbird App, you can view the menu and order from there, too! They were rolling out the orders very quickly! We tried a different salad each time. We shared the Elote Chop Salad the first time and the Thai Chicken Salad the second time. They are both good. I appreciate the dressing(s) are packaged in a container and we can add them when we're ready. It's also nice to be able to control the amount. Many places add too much dressing to salads. The one negative we had was that the chicken was super salty on two separate days we went. I wonder if it is in the flour mixture or if it is added afterwards. I will ask next time. I would love to request a light salt level! I enjoyed their Alameda Soda Co. machine with locally crafted beverages. I tried a little of the Root Beer, Cream Soda, and Ginger Beer. Very tasty! My main drink was the POG Lemonade. With it having lemonade, the POG was less sweet and more refreshing! One thing I thought was pretty cool was that you can help fight hunger by donating a meal and it doesn't cost you anything to do it! It is provided through the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. I have never been to Starbird Chicken but decided to check it out since one opened so close to me. Wow the place was hopping at 1pm on a Wednesday. There are tables with umbrellas outside as well as seating inside. I like the kiosks for ordering and how helpful everyone was for newbies like me. Once your order is ready you will get a text message abs your name will appear on the board. Portions are huge. We order the Big Star chicken sandwich, kids meal and the elite crunch salad. None of us were able to finish our meal in one sitting so definitely worth the cost. The kids meal was a hit with the LO. It comes with chicken tenders, fries, and a kids drink. My elote crunch salad was delicious. I like the dressing on the side so I could dip the salad and chicken in. This place just opened up, we saw many tiktoks and had to try try it out! The food came out very quickly, staff was really kind, and the place is very clean and organized. We opted to take out the food, but are sure that it would be great dinning in. We got 12- pieces of each Thai Chili (bone in) and the lemon pepper (boneless). The wings tasted great! Starbird Chicken is pretty fantastic. Their first week of opening had SO many customers waiting in line to dine there. They have a full service line where you get served by humans and a line for people who want to order on a computer. There's a staff member at the front who will answer your questions and guide you on your experience there. Since I was one of the first to sign up for the free meal for its grand opening--my first Starbird experience was a pro bono one. I ordered the Starbird chicken sandwich and the chicken was thiccc, crispy and hot. The sandwich itself was delicious and tasty. The sauce they use on the sandwich is scrumptious. Everyone there was ordering the salad. The salads look huge and delicious. I will get a salad next time. On their menu, they have sandwiches, salads, wings, nuggets, and tenders. I had never heard of Starbird Chicken until last week when I got a notification that they were opening a new location in Torrance.. who isn't going to go try fried chicken? Everything is shiny, new and clean. You can order at the counter or you can use a kiosk which are plentiful. Chicken sandwich is good size, crispy, and really, really good. There are lots of choices for sauces so try a few.. I stuck with their original which was great. French fries are nice and crispy with no soggy fries at all. The worst Nashville hot sandwich I've ever had. All the oil dripped out the back, leaving, an oily mess on the tray. Since all the chili flavor is in the oil, the sandwich was left with no flavor once the oil dripped out. This place really needs to re-configure their process for better oil retention. I had never had Starbird, but I have heard about it from acquaintences and seen it on the way to other places. Arriving to Torrance from the South Bay (San Francisco) to a new spot is a good move on a busy corner. Location: Right on the corner of Torrance Blvd and Hawthorne Blvd where the old Spires used to be. In the same lot as Habit Burger and Amazon Fresh. I visited here twice and got the Nashville Hot Bird and 3 tenders. I give them credit, the chicken was well seasoned and spicy for the Hot Bird and crispy. What I didn't like was the vinegary tang I think was in the breading for the chicken on a toasted bun. Maybe it was the coleslaw? Not sure. The tenders were crispy and seasoned and a pretty good size with a drizzle of lemon garlic. I'm not a tenders person, but I wanted to try something different. These were actually pretty good. I liked them. Summary: All in all, for opening week, this place was busy and the quality of the food and staff were on point. However, that vinegar tang with the Hot Bird and the price for 3 chicken tenders ($12.97) makes me think twice about coming here. The cost of eating out has gone through the roof so I'm not sure I'd recommend coming here on a regular basis. Fries alone are $5 and when you add a drink to your meal as well, that gets pricey. Even salads aren't any better on your wallet here. Quality is on point, don't get me wrong and nothing was bad. Ambiance is a fast-casual place and organized to get you your food as quick as possible. They even have a digital board to let you know when your order is ready. Would I come back? TL;DR - solid chicken tenders and salad, decent pricing, very fast service I got Starbird a few years ago during the pandemic when they were doing their trial run (it was an order online, then pick up the food in a locker adjacent to the kitchen). It was a good experience then, and it's still a good experience now. They recently opened this location last month I think. The interior is brand spanking new. They even have a separate window dedicated to food delivery drivers. I got the lemon garlic chicken tenders with fries. It was really good, especially the sauce. I'm planning to get it again in the future. The salad was also refreshing, crunchy, and full of flavor... wouldn't mind getting that too if I was in a mood to eat clean. Pricing is affordable and what you'd expect nowadays for something like this. The wait for the food was very short too. I ordered online and the pick up time was 10 minutes later. I arrived in 5 minutes and the food was already waiting for me at the pick up spot! Overall I'm really glad they opened a location in Torrance and plan on coming back soon. read more

I have tried almost EVERYTHING on the menu now. The place is clean, staff is very nice, great start! Here is everything i tried: Sauces: Thai herb aioli is my favorite sauce followed by the greek yogurt ranch and the chipotle lime dressing (sweet). The roasted garlic aioli was good. The star sauce is good, tastes like chipotle sauce (sweet). Yuzu sesame dressing is very lemony. The greek dressing has a sourness with feta in it i think. The chicken itself is good and quality but alittle salty (tenders). The grilled chicken is flavorful. However, my fave chicken is at chikfila and it does not match that. Not as juicy or flavorful as that. Better than any other fastfood chicken though. The vegan chicken is really good, seasoned very well and tastes like chicken! The sesame garden crunch salad is my fave (with thai herb dressing). Love the edamame and crunchy noodle croutons. Nice size too (all their salads). The chicken chop salad is my 2nd fave. I didn't like the elote salad with the cojita cheese, just ok but the other salads were better. The nashville hot fries are my second favorite thing after the salads. They use real shredded cheddar cheese! And their fries are very good. Great value for $7. Brussell sprouts were good, charred and sweet. The churros are light and crispy with maple syrup. Good. The vanilla ice cream sandwich was nice with the chocolate covered oatmeal cookie on it (liked it better than churros). All in all a nice new place to eat. Will be back! read more

5/5 customer service - I went during the grand opening event and did get a discount on the food because of their promo. But it was very just since they were giving away free meals and the customer service was top notch. 4/5 lemon pepper wings - the portion size is a little smaller and the flavoring is on the lighter side. But there was still a little bit of a twang. 3.5/5 Brussels sprouts - this is more personal preference because I don't usually like brussel sprouts to be sweet. They are extremely saucy and if you like brussel sprouts on the sweeter side than these are the ones for you. I'm happy they opened this Torrance location. I dined in there twice during my visit from the Bay Area. Took my bf for a quick lunch after driving a solo dolo road trip so you can imagine I was starving by the time we arrived. I love their crispy chicken wings. Ordered all flats with lemon pepper.
