Sandwich was ok. Was in the area and wanted a sandwich for lunch. This place popped up... the guy making the sandwich grab the bread out of a bag, the bread isn't even freshly baked. It's probably bought from somewhere like Smart and final... Although they do use Boars head meats they could put more meat and not even offer potato or macaroni salad on the side. Hugo's Deli in Torrance is a hidden gem tucked away in a dark corner of a minimall. I have seen this place in passing for years and wondered if it was a real deli. It is real, unpretentious, and fabulous. The hot pastrami is excellent, packed with flavor and served fresh. Service is fast, making it a perfect spot for a quick lunch. Hugo and Rosa are super friendly. The sandwiches are as good as from Torrance Bakery, but Hugo's is more laid back. They have cool sports collectibles along the back wall. This includes hard to find LA Kings bobbleheads of Jack Johnson and Jason Allison. They have Dodger and Laker stuff too. read more

Wife and I were seeking a different place to get a good sandwich. We came across Hugo's Deli on Yelp and decided this is the Place to go.The prices are reasonable considering Boars Head Meats are used. The Mrs ordered Turkey and Avocado Sandwich on Squaw Bread and the New Italian for me. The sandwich's can be customized with your choice of condiments as well as bread(the Squaw is a must) The owner Hugo politely greats you when you arrive and takes your order asking how you'd like your sandwich. Today, I got a meatball sandwich and a potato salad Good soft roll. The meatballs reminded me more of a crumbled style, which I also like. The cheese was gooey. If I had to guess, I believe they use mustard and dill in their potato salad. Service was very friendly and prompt. read more

Defo recommend. The Tornado is the best sandwich they have by a mile and one of the best sandwiches in the South Bay. I've gotten this sando several times and it always delivers. The other sandwiches are fine with no other standouts, but no additional standouts required to get you that tri tip. Good deli with good people at good prices. Can't beat that read more

We went to Hugo's because I saw a video about his deli. It looked good. I ordered roast turkey with Havarti cheese and the works on sweet bread and it was delicious. I could order it again but I'm going to get something else when I go back. My husband loved his sandwich. Service was excellent. It was fast and, I guess, Hugo was very helpful. Hidden gem! Just inhaled the Infinity wrap.... So delicious, just the right mix of greens, meat and sauce.

I wouldn't have known about Hugo's Deli if it wasn't for Yelp. It's a convenient location with lots of parking in the plaza. The whole plaza is a little run down but this place in a diamond in the rough. It's a small little mom-and-pop sandwich shop in a plaza on the corner of Madrona and Torrance. I ordered the New Italian to-go. The guy there (might have been Hugo?) was so very friendly and accommodating, he made my sandwich custom to my preferences. The New Italian, which also looked like their signature sandwich, as it was highlighted on their menu and at the counter, was amazing. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in the South Bay. Amazing sandwiches and wraps! The bread is fresh and they have a variety of delicious flavors. I highly recommend, my new go to lunch spot.

My allergies are wheat gluten dairy and soy I placed an order for lunch ( they close early and on weekends) they accommodated quite easily. Two hot pastramis mine no cheese and lettuce wrap for both sandwiches. I don't think they tell enough that their meats are gluten free they use boar head. The portion side was good everyone was really sweet. The inside has all these awards and pictures and menus. I think online I read the place was kosher I don't know how you look for those certificates. But I'm pretty sure if I asked they would tell me/ show me. I didn't see anything but you could see the kitchen and the service was great they have been around for twenty years! Insane right! read more

I'm not sure why people love this place so much. It's good but I've never found anything close to mind blowing here that deserves a 4+ rating. I've been here twice and have found the sandwiches to be of average size, reasonably priced, and of good (not great, not amazing) quality. There was absolutely nothing spectacular about their pastrami or corned beef. Sorry if you didn't agree but when you've got the NY Deli nearby and Caps and Corks up the street, this just isn't a MUST try in my book. Just tried this place for the first time after seeing realtor Richard Haynes feature it on his Southbay hidden gems series on Instagram. Wow! How did I not know this place was here? I had that the turkey havarti sandwich that was recommended and suffice to say, the sandwich didn't make it home after eating a bite in the car. I was craving tuna so I used my handy dandy Yelp app to help me find a place with a tuna sandwich. Lord & beyond Mr Hugo's deli has appeared on the list. It wasn't far either which was perfect considering I was on a lunch break. I placed my order online through the Yelp app and it was already done when I had arrived for pickup. It was mad banging. Tucked back in the corner or an L-shaped strip mall, that is the backdrop to a 7-Eleven sitting front and center, is a great little deli. I love walking into this place. It's so neat and clean. A cozy spot to get a great sandwich and bonus if you happen to be greeted and have your sub, or whatever menu items you selected, created by the namesake Hugo himself. But really, everyone behind the counter is top-notch. For me, it's a turkey sandwich or meatball sub and they are always crafted with attention and care. You can just tell when something is done right and it's not just going through the motions. Because of the way this strip mall is laid out, you kind of have to be looking for it and wouldn't naturally spot it from the street. It's worth the stop. Parking is easy. read more

Small, old-school mom and pop sandwich shop, located in a strip mall. I really liked the turkey havarti sandwich I had, and my husband liked his hot pastrami sandwich. The sandwiches aren't the ginormous sandwiches you see from chain places, but it was very flavorful and tasty. The bread was good, but it did fall apart rather quickly from all the sauce/dressing, and it was a bit hard to eat. I feel like a little thicker bread to hold everything together would be better, especially with the pastrami sandwich. The sandwiches come with a little side of either potato salad or macaroni salad. I like how they actually cook some of the meats in house (tri-tip & meatballs). I ordered a turkey wrap and made some modifications and it came out perfectly, I even had them toast it too. I believe all sandwiches/wraps come with a complimentary side cup of macaroni salad or potato salad. It can be easily be missed as it's tucked away in the middle of the plaza. I was hungry for a sandwich so I searched on Yelp until I found this place. Hugo's is owned by, you guessed it! Hugo! He is a nice man with great customer service and a fair looking deli. I walked in and he greeted and served me right away. He asked me what I wanted while also describing customer favorites. I settled on the infinity wrap and got it with no jalapeños. I was taken aback by its size! It had to easily be the size of a burrito and that made me happy because I was really hungry. I got the wrap to go with a side of macaroni salad and a bag of chips. I rode all the way home and on the whole ride, thought about how yummy it would taste. I get home, crack it open, take the first bite and have to say that I was underwhelmed with the flavor of it. It could have been that the mixture of chipotle and rosemary didn't get along well together in my mouth. I was looking for that party in my mouth and I didn't get it. This is a nice hole in the wall deli shop find. I ordered the Turkey Foccacia Panini through Yelp and picked up shortly after. My favorite thing about a sandwich is the aioli sauce and this place has sun dried tomato aioli sauce. That made it for me! It was excellent with the melted mozzarella cheese and basil pesto on the rosemary foccacia. It's also a pretty large sandwich and I probably ate more than I should have.
