Stopped by around 8 PM on a Thursday. There was a wait, but there was still plenty of seating available. We chose to sit outside, and the patio heaters kept it comfortable throughout the meal. Parking was street parking only, and the area was fairly busy. We ended up getting lucky and grabbed a spot just as someone was leaving. I started with the Lemon Sherbet drink, which was refreshing without being overly sweet. The drink itself had a nice tartness, while the sherbet added a smooth, sweet lemon flavor that balanced it out well. For food, we ordered the 3-Piece Bone-In Chicken with Garlic Rice. The chicken was definitely the highlight of the meal. It was crispy, juicy, and packed with garlic flavor. The Garlic Rice was a great pairing and complemented the chicken nicely once it arrived. The only downside was the wait for the food. Both the chicken and the rice took quite a while to come out, especially considering it wasn't extremely crowded. The four of us arrived around dinner time on a weeknight and were seated right away. We came specifically to try the fried chicken, and it definitely lived up to the hype. It was the standout dish of the meal. The bone-in chicken thigh paired perfectly with the garlic rice, and we also loved the Shaka Shake fries, which are tossed with seaweed salt in a bag That said, we found the fried chicken became a bit greasy as it cooled. We also made the mistake of ordering too many fried appetizers. The mushrooms and Brussels sprouts were both fried as well, so after a few bites the meal started to feel pretty heavy. I wasn't sure if it was because I was one of the first customers who received their food, but my karaage was mostly soggy, which was a huge disappointment given the excitement I've seen about this restaurant online. After having this spot bookmarked for over a year, I met up with an old friend here before the restaurant opened and we were the second table seated. Street parking is available and I had no issues finding it. The restaurant itself was an interesting mix of sports bar and Japanese restaurant. My chicken thigh set was a well balanced meal, with miso soup, pickles, cabbage, and edamame. It was only sad that the star of the show, the chicken itself fell short of my expectations. The first bite into surprisingly soft and wet potato starch breading shocked me, and while the overall flavor of the chicken won me over, I did think there had to be something wrong with my order. Thankfully one of the pieces was a bit crispy so I got the experience I was supposed to have, but I don't think I got the full Gaburi flavor. Gaburi Chicken in Torrance, located in Torrance, is their first location in the United States. They serve Japanese Fried Chicken. After taking one bite, I knew that this is a place that I'd come back to. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. My wife got it as a rice bowl, and three small pieces were served over rice and with a side of miso soup. I got it as a plate with four pieces of chicken, a side of rice, a side of cabbage with yuzu vinaigrette, miso soup, and pickles. The chicken is basically a really good karaage chicken that you can enjoy with rice. It doesn't need any additional sauces because it's delicious; however, they give you togarashi chili flakes, mayo, and some sauces for free. I paid $1 for yuzu pepper and $1 for garlic sauce (served on the side) and both of these enhanced the flavors. Overall, this is a really good version of Fried chicken, and I think it would be great to complement it with beer. They have indoor seating and patio seating, but they were quite busy and they have a small team, so there was a wait for a table and service was slow. I would love to come back regularly and the chicken is craveable, but it is a drive for me. I hope they expand beyond the south bay! read more

My simple meal consisting of excellently seasoned fried chicked and small dishes of steamed rice, miso soup, and edamame was so satisfying. Chicken and rice may seem basic, but deep-fried dark meat chicken done right, like at Gaburi Chicken, is a comfort food that never fails to make me happy. I enjoyed their chicken a lot because they were flavorful and juicy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Not too chewy or full of tendons. The coating was not greasy, and it was almost airy. The savory chicken didn't really need a sauce, but the mentai mayo I added to my meal was tasty. Two thumbs up for all of the flavors and textures. The restaurant is on Marcelina Ave with some parking directly in front, but we had to park down the street and walk over due to some road closures. So I went to this super popular Japanese restaurant in Torrence called: Gaburi Chicken. It was absolutely fabulous. I first had chicken gizzards, which had a nice soft crunch with a kind of rosemary seasoning. Next, I had the half chicken (baked) that was cut at the table. What makes this chicken special is the seasoning and sauce. Cheese was also added to the chicken as well. It was oh so tender and juicy. It had to be the most tender baked chicken I've had. I wish I ordered their other dishes to try. Their signature gaburi chicken was only 18 dollars and can definitely feed two people. The gizzard ($7)were also perfectly fried and I loved all the sauce and dipping option that they had. However I would skip the garlic egg rice at ($9). The portion is super small for 9 dollars, I only got it since on the table it seemed like they did a promotion for it but I think it didn't apply which I was kind of disappointed because the waiter cut up the chicken before we could participate in the promo since they said the whole chicken leg needed to be in tack for the photo. I came to Gaburi Chicken for dinner with my family on a Saturday night. It wasn't too crowded when we got here but by the time we were seated it got pretty busy. There's indoor and outdoor seating so we were able to bring our dog with us to eat outside. There are a few tables outside in like a patio area and inside there's a bar and some TVs that were showing some games. The service was really good, almost too good. We had 3-4 different servers that came to take our order when we first sat down and a few that came by to offer our check. I was worried they were going to put in multiple orders but everything was organized by table number so it worked out well. Throughout the meal different waiters came by to check on us and all were really nice and helpful. For food our family shared a bunch of dishes. We started with the miso chicken cutlet and fries. The fries came with a seasoning and we got the truffle salt. The salt was surprisingly really delicious and held a truffle flavor somehow. The fries were nice and crispy and really good with the salt shaken up with them. The chicken cutlet was pretty good with a nice sauce on it. It was breaded like chicken katsu and came on skewers but I think we could've just stuck with the regular fried chicken. We also got a chicken tortilla pizza that was one of their newer items. I actually enjoyed this a lot and wasn't really expecting that. The cheese was really nice and the chicken was tender and juicy. For our main dishes we got the bone in chicken plate, garlic rice, and 3 combo fried chicken. The fried chicken was juicy and tender, literally falling off the bone and the outside was crispy and had a really good savory flavor. The bone in chicken plate was also very flavorful. The waitress came by and cut up the chicken for us. When our garlic rice came the waiter prepared the rice by pouring the juice from the chicken over it and adding in some shoyu which made it delicious and almost like a meal itself. Overall I really liked all the flavors of the food but I felt like it was a little too greasy for me. I don't eat a lot of greasy foods so I know that's a personal thing as the rest of my family really loved all the food with no complaints. It was definitely a good amount of food. The chicken is juicy and full of flavor. I appreciated that the pieces are lightly breaded. They don't take reservations via Yelp. They have their own reservation system they use on Rezy. The staff were attentive, and were helpful take out orders. They have different menus for lunch, dinner, and takeout. If you can't find what you saw on Yelp, you probably didn't go at the right time or it's a takeout only item. My friend and I had the bone in chicken thigh with garlic rice, the crispy gyoza, cucumber salad, the fried spaghetti, and the fried chicken breast. I've been here a few times and actually with the same friend who is Japanese. The chicken is cooked perfectly and served whole. But then cut with scissors into bite size pieces. The seasoning is on point and not too salty. Because it's cooked on the bone the chicken is so juicy. We loved the garlic rice! The fries with truffle oil is great, not too much oil or salty. The servers are very friendly and are great at explaining the dishes. It does get very busy and very loud. The night we were here, it so happened to be two parties. Super popular and super busy on the weekend nights. It's a physical wait list to sign up, so you gotta be there. There's free parking nearby. We went around 20 minutes way from the convention so we were in cosplay and got a couple stares, but whatever. Seating outside with the heating units and people brought their dogs too. There's a menu on the window outside so you can prepare what you want to order, but note that there's a menu ONLY for take out and they give you some special menus when you're inside too. Since it's a popular franchise around the world, they have a lot of their own merch too. Pretty unique and they have their own gachapon machine of their merch too. Neat! After seeing what was nearby, but not too close by (fisted from con goers), we saw that Gaburi chicken was one of the options. We've seen their lemon tower drink on social media before and it's definitely eye catching and unique. Took around 20 minutes for us to be seated and around 40 minutes into dining, it was last call before kitchen closed. Forgot to order dessert, but next time. This food was designed to be eaten with alcohol, like bar and snack food. We came in as a group of 5 hungry, so we had to order a lot of food and only 1 person drank. Kinda funny. We got the: 1) Grapefruit Whole Fruit Soda: -Very eye catching. Practical? Not very. It's soda water and you juice your fruit into it. Being it's carbonated soda water (kinda tastes bitter to me already) and a grapefruit, this ended up being a tart kinda bitter drink for me. It's okay and I like it for pictures and the branded image and logo on to the citrus skin, but it's a get it once and be done kinda thing. 2) Mascarpone Cheese and Crackers: -Probably one of my favorite dishes. Unique with their slightly sweet mascarpone cheese since it has honey and raisins (I think) in it. Tastes like something a fancy person would eat with wine. Came with a lot of cheese than crackers which is a good thing since we kept eating this throughout our meal. 3) Gabukichi-kun's Egg: -I LOVE the little paper snood that comes with this. Little details like that thing bring your brand/mascot into the dishes are always such a nice touch. Very cute. -It's quail eggs in their wasabi based sauce. Yummy and easy to eat, what can I say. 4) Bone-In Chicken: -It's a large chicken thigh that they cut for you at the table. Comes out sizzling hot and it's one of their recommended dishes. -Super tender and juicy. It takes 20 minutes to bake, so make sure you order this first. -I'm okay with baked chicken so yes it was good, but not the most mind blowing dish there. 5) Soft Bone Fried Chicken: This came out fried and I made sure to grab the bits without bone or barely had any, as a non bone enjoyer. Super crispy breading with a slight chew to it. I can see why it's a fan favorite. 6) Garlic Rice with Mentaiko: -Generous portion of mentaiko on top. Though scooping it is a bit difficult. Very oily, very heavy, but delicious garlic fried rice. This came out a bit later after our main food and we were planning to eat it with the rice. Oh well. Simple garlic fried rice with egg and mentaiko on top (extra charge). I wouldn't get this again, but we were a hungry big group. 7) This cold cut slices of chicken in this yummy soy sauce-ish based sauce. I don't remember what it's called because it was on a "Salaryman" menu that was handed to our table. I didn't get a picture of it, but it was one of our table's favorites and our main source of protein before the warm food came out. Slight heat from the chili oil in it and the cilantro gave it a lot of flavor. The beansprouts tasted like the sauce making it edible to me. Decent sized slices of chicken in it too. 8) Miso Chicken Cutlet: -2 miso chicken skewers made out of chicken breast, breadcrumbs, miso and okonomi sauce on top of some cabbage. Not bad, but it wasn't our table's favorite. A bit too sweet with a slight bitter undertone from the sauce. It was just okay. My friends all got a beverage themselves including the frozen lemon tower regular and alcoholic (boyfriend didn't like this since it was hard to beat the frozen lemon slice down into the drink and it barely had any lemon taste to it), whole fruit lemon soda, and the uji matcha. Friend ordered the matcha just straight up thinking it was a matcha latte for it to be just a matcha drink and her being a sweet tooth DESPISED this and the disgust was apparent all the way through the night. Adding the sugar didn't help either, so this was another L here. Overall, fine to try once for some of their dishes and the novelty, but since we're not in this area as often, I'll probably be trying out other restaurants first. read more

We went on a Friday evening and made reservations on Resy so when we got there, we passed the line and got seated immediately! All are so fun in their presentation and delicious and refreshing to drink! We also ordered edamames and garlic rice as sides. My guests both ordered ramen (I didn't snap a picture) and loved it! I tasted the broth and it was rich and flavorful! I love the fried chicken because the batter is super light and leaves the chicken so juicy! The Mentai roe mayo was delicious! Creamy with a pop of salty! The bone in chicken has such a unique set of aromatic herbs and spices and it's a welcome change to the many other roasted chickens I've tasted. It's so juicy and the way they come and prepare it for you is so exciting! Easy to share too! Then, we ordered the garlic rice which has so many things going on but each thing elevates the experience. It's cooked with an egg, then they poured the juice from the boneless chicken on top. This was nice discovery and the first visit! We wanted to book regular table seating, but it was last min booking (and also being Friday night), only bar seating was available to book. It actually turned out better as we could see all the actions and ask questions to servers easily. After getting recommendations from servers, we ordered bone-in chicken with garlic rice, pickled cucumber, scallops, and mackerel plus some beverages. Everything was good, but particularly the famous bone-in chicken (of course) and the garlic rice nailed it! Had matcha tiramisu for dessert. All servers we encountered were friendly, energetic, and dishes/beverages were served promptly. I think prices were reasonable considering the taste and quality. And that's probably another reason why it's popular. The only comment I would make would be about parking situation - street parking is setup, but nothing was available...and wasn't easy to find a space even at the parking structure a bit away. It's nothing to do with the restaurant, but you may want to plan extra time when you have a reservation. read more

This was our first visit to Gaburi in Old Torrance. Easy street parking. Rez made thru Resy. They have a few tables inside besides the listed bar and community tables, as well as some outside tables. Very polite and attentive staff. Happy hour even on weekends. Matcha IPA was good. Barrel aged Shochu was excellent on the rocks. Shochu is distilled and stronger than sake. Very nice mellow flavor. Natto bomb lives up to its name as an appetizer. Fresh ahi, natto and delicately cut. Veggies with Nori was excellent. Chicken cracklings with mentaiko mayo was very good. Chicken thighs came out fast, but delicious with a light batter. The oven baked chicken cut at the table was superb. We poured the juices over the garlic rice. Stuffed, we were unable to try their green tea tiramisu, but we eagerly look Forward to dining at Gaburi in the near future. read more

We've been coming to Gaburi since they opened so this review is coming super late despite us going there quite often. I love the bone-in chicken and fried corn! There's something special about their pickles and I can't quite place my finger on it. I tried the brussels sprouts today and those were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The matcha tiramisu is also amazing as well as their drinks! Service is always great. If they are fully booked, check day of to see if anyone canceled! read more

Small place that has revamped itself to this chicken place! And I'm glad we tried it. We had the combo fried chicken and the garlic rice. We started with appetizers - kimchee, and hamachi. All delicious. Well try the baked chicken next time! We made a reservation online for the quickest bar seats. Very quiet on a weeknight but surprised that there were already seats taken at 5pm (when they opened). read more

THIS PLACE IS SOOOOO GOOOD!! A friend took me here a couple months ago and when some out of town friends came in, I decided to take them here for authentic Japanese fried chicken. I ordered their Mixed Fried Chicken Bento like 4 times for a party of 5 to split. I would recommend ordering side sauces to eat the chicken to add different flavor. So tender and juicy, and quite literally the best fried chicken I've ever had. It's a little pricy as a heads up, but worth it! Service was pretty fast as they make the chicken to order. The ambiance is a smaller restaurant in Old Town Torrance but if you go during off, rush hours a big party should be fine. read more
