I have always been curious about Gaburi (it's been on my feed for the longest time), but had only just realized that this was where we were for dinner when they set down my glass of sherbet lemon sour-the mug was what jogged my memory. Definitely umami overload. While the chicken itself was seasoned well with a slight smoky flavor throughout, the pleathora of dipping sauces was definitely necessary. Mix and match, get crazy with it, there are no wrong answers. The sesame green onions were definitely a highlight. The garlic butter from the garlic rice was poured onto our chicken; what's not to like? The price is probably my biggest stumbling block. You must be bold to sell a chicken thigh for $18 knowing there are places that sell entire chickens for $5. To be honest, if I were craving chicken, I would go to Jollibee's. Maybe I just don't appreciate the craft, but I feel that the focus of this restaurant is simply the appetizer at many others. Service was great. The bone-in chicken doesn't really say how much it feeds, which could be helpful. The Fried Chicken was the winner, for sure. The person cutting the bone-in chicken needed a little pep in his step. First time trying Gabito Chicken and it did not disappoint! Small restaurant located in downtown Torrance. There's indoor and outdoor seatings. We went on a Friday night and waited around 20 min at 6:30 to get seated for 2 people. We ordered their 6 piece combo, mackerel, garlic fried rice, scallops, dumplings and side of fries. Their chicken was really tender and juicy! But other than their chicken, everything else was just okay. Mackerel was pretty fishy but seeing our server torch the fish was pretty cool. The best fried chicken I've had in SoCal so far! I will honestly be dreaming about the chicken. The chicken was super crispy but still juicy in the inside. It's such a simple bento but everything was 10/10! We also ordered the sweetened orange and grapefruit soda. Honestly we got it because it looked fun and cute! Stopped by around 8 PM on a Thursday. There was a wait, but there was still plenty of seating available. We chose to sit outside, and the patio heaters kept it comfortable throughout the meal. Parking was street parking only, and the area was fairly busy. We ended up getting lucky and grabbed a spot just as someone was leaving. I started with the Lemon Sherbet drink, which was refreshing without being overly sweet. After having this spot bookmarked for over a year, I met up with an old friend here before the restaurant opened and we were the second table seated. Street parking is available and I had no issues finding it. The restaurant itself was an interesting mix of sports bar and Japanese restaurant. My chicken thigh set was a well balanced meal, with miso soup, pickles, cabbage, and edamame. It was only sad that the star of the show, the chicken itself fell short of my expectations. The first bite into surprisingly soft and wet potato starch breading shocked me, and while the overall flavor of the chicken won me over, I did think there had to be something wrong with my order. Thankfully one of the pieces was a bit crispy so I got the experience I was supposed to have, but I don't think I got the full Gaburi flavor. We got seated right away around noon on a weekend but they only give us 1 hr to eat our food since it was reserved for people already (we chose to sit inside, since outside was super hot). All the tables were all reserved inside. The chicken in my opinion was pretty pricy. I got the 3 combo, it was pretty small ($20). Smaller than what I thought it would be. The servers though, no one was really checking in on us, they were just kept on talking to each other, except the woman, she was nice however I think she was busy checking the reservations every now and then that she didn't check in on us either (I was just saying this because our waters were pretty empty because of the heat). Gaburi Chicken in Torrance, located in Torrance, is their first location in the United States. They serve Japanese Fried Chicken. After taking one bite, I knew that this is a place that I'd come back to. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. My wife got it as a rice bowl, and three small pieces were served over rice and with a side of miso soup. I got it as a plate with four pieces of chicken, a side of rice, a side of cabbage with yuzu vinaigrette, miso soup, and pickles. The chicken is basically a really good karaage chicken that you can enjoy with rice. It doesn't need any additional sauces because it's delicious; however, they give you togarashi chili flakes, mayo, and some sauces for free. I paid $1 for yuzu pepper and $1 for garlic sauce (served on the side) and both of these enhanced the flavors. Overall, this is a really good version of Fried chicken, and I think it would be great to complement it with beer. They have indoor seating and patio seating, but they were quite busy and they have a small team, so there was a wait for a table and service was slow. I ordered their fried chicken and the octopus appetizer, and both were so salty that I couldn't even finish them. I don't eat bland food by any means, but this wasn't just "seasoned"--it was overwhelmingly salty to the point of being inedible. The frustrating part is that the chicken itself was fried well, and the octopus was cooked perfectly. The technique was there, but the seasoning completely ruined the dishes. After a few bites, we had no choice but to leave and find somewhere else to eat. If you enjoy extremely salty food, maybe this place will work for you. Definitely make a reservation-- friends say the chicken here is life-changing, and while I think that's an exaggeration, it is pretty damned good. Both fried chicken and baked (roast?) chicken are excellent; the former is a bit smaller pieces but fresh and succulent, the latter is deboned and cut into small chickens in the Asian style. Order garlic rice (with egg) and they'll drip the roast chicken juice over the rice. We went overboard with french fries as well-- perfectly fried but plain, as they're meant to be dipped in truffle salt or other provided dips you can choose off the menu. Cocktails, mostly fruit-based, sweet and non-sweet, were offered. Quite good and fun to pour in from the fruit itself into your glass, but didn't blow me away. Vibe inside is a bit busy if you go late, we were there early so it was relaxed, but you could feel how efficiently the space was used. There's an outdoor patio too but we did not try that. So I went to this super popular Japanese restaurant in Torrence called: Gaburi Chicken. It was absolutely fabulous. I first had chicken gizzards, which had a nice soft crunch with a kind of rosemary seasoning. Next, I had the half chicken (baked) that was cut at the table. What makes this chicken special is the seasoning and sauce. Cheese was also added to the chicken as well. It was oh so tender and juicy. It had to be the most tender baked chicken I've had. I also had skillet fried garlic rice over eggs which was also seasoned real nice. It was prepared with house made soy sauce along with a special chicken broth. It was amazing! I wish I ordered their other dishes to try. Their signature gaburi chicken was only 18 dollars and can definitely feed two people. The portion is super small for 9 dollars, I only got it since on the table it seemed like they did a promotion for it but I think it didn't apply which I was kind of disappointed because the waiter cut up the chicken before we could participate in the promo since they said the whole chicken leg needed to be in tack for the photo. It was definitely a good amount of food. The chicken is juicy and full of flavor. I appreciated that the pieces are lightly breaded. Got ourselves a 3 combo karaage which is a different parts of chicken fried karaage style. The chicken was pretty good, fried nicely to be crunchy but really tender on the inside with the classic karaage flavor. The cucmber was really good, nice flavors and well marinated. Their showstopper was the bone in chicken which is basically a leg/thigh chicken that they cut for you tableside. The chicken was really juicy and really flavorful and would definitely come back for this alone.
