For newcomers, Chinchikurin is not a cook-it-yourself okonomiyaki restaurant and serves Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki which is layered and not as pancake-like as Osaka style okonomiyaki. The okonomiyaki here comes in a variety of flavors, which all change out the layers for different ingredients. The layers are distinctly separate and you can see the layer lines when cutting. The flavors will mix when you eat it though and sauce is recommended. The Chinchikurinyaki was ok, the ground meat layer was a little dry and didn't add much flavor. Adding okonomiyaki sauce and mayo helped but it should have stood on its own. The broc n shrimp was much better, with a better match between the layers and nicely cooked shrimp on top.

I love coming here for the soupless tantanmen and chicken karrage. Everything I've tasted from this place is absolutely delicious and I highly recommend giving them a try.

The Classic with more green onions!!

Being from Portland, okonomiyaki is near impossible to find. So when Yelping places to dine on Japanese food in particular, we were thrilled to learn Chinchikurin was walking distance from our hotel. Got seated promptly and with a smile. Felt like we were back in Japan with the set-up and decor. The grill is a full counter right in view of the customers. Chefs take their jobs seriously and perform them efficiently. We started our meal with the Pork Wrapped Mochi Skewers with Spicy Sauce. This was delightful, don't miss it! See picture and drool. This chain restaurant serves Hiroshima style okonomiyaki. Very different from the. version we had in Kyoto. This style adds noodles, bean sprouts and an egg. I recommend ordering noodles crispy! Ooh, adds something extra that is tasty! The finely shaved cabbage is not mixed into a batter or it is a very thin batter. As a result, the cabbage is a bit watery for my taste. My husband actually preferred this style --- and he doesn't even like cabbage!! They have the usual sauce on top and you can add more (I did!) plus Kewpie mayo (i didn't. Most people do.) I ordered the Classic with extra green onions. Hubs ordered the Hiroshima. We were stuffed afterwards! Japan does chains well. This is a fine example of that. If you are craving something delicious in an unpretentious setting that is pure Japanese, you would like Chinchikurin!

Don't get a runny egg or soggy stuff on your Hiroshimayaki unless you know what you're in for
Donald T.

Since the owners of Doya Doya retired back to Japan, Chinchikurin is the only place that satisfies that itch for a great Hiroshimayaki. Don't get anything soggy like a raw egg. Hiroshimayaki isn't like normal Okonomiyaki where you can do whatever you want with it. Hiroshima Style should be cooked in layers and anything you do to compromise it is you exercising your free will in questionable ways (don't let me stop you from ruining your meal, eat it however you like)

The location is popular so you may have to wait a while to be seated and served but it's worth it. Delicious okonomiyaki with plenty of veggies and nice and crispy. Ordered some squid legs and they were also well cooked and seasoned. Tried their yuzu drink and it was refreshing.

Our favorite Hiroshima style okonomiyaki place! My son's been asking for this since before the holidays, my husband tried 4 times to go and every time it was closed over the break or he just didn't know the operating hours (closed in afternoons and also all day Monday and Tuesday). The lady who is always there is very nice and works the place herself, so please have patience. My husband and I always get the classic with double crispy noodles, my mom gets the classic with soft noodles, and my son gets the classic with crispy. Sometimes we finish it, sometimes not, but we've learned how to reheat it pretty well at home. Parking is sometimes hard to find in the plaza, especially during peak lunch and dinner hours. We love it and will make the drive from the OC just to get it.

TL;DR - chinchikurinyaki is their signature dish. They use ground beef instead of pork or bean sprouts. Really good. Got the Spicy Sauce pork wrapped mochi skewer which was very fun to eat. I wish I ordered another This is always a fun spot to visit for a meal. If you like okonomiyaki then this is the place to be. I tried their chinchikurinyaki which is their signature dish in Hiroshima. It's a local favorite without pork or bean sprouts. Instead they use ground beef. In a way it reminds me of eating a hamburger bun but buried in fried noodles, vegetables, and savory sauces. It's very crispy up top so you get this tiny spatula to cut it up into smaller slices. You get additional sauce and kewpie to supplement. I also decided to try their pork wrapped mochi skewer as well. I got the "Spicy Sauce" which has siracha and spicy mayo on top. It was really good and very fun to eat. Think of a hot dog on a stick but it's mochi instead. Then wrap this up in a thin layer of pork that gets fried against a hot skillet/surface. Then drizzle with their sauce. Super fun to eat. I wish I bought a second one. Very friendly service and nice ambiance. Easy to hold a conversation and eat with family and kids.

Chinchikurinyaki & B&C two main offerings!

Went to Chinchikurin over the weekend after touring the area for Japanese restaurants! I've had Okonomomiyaki in Japan a couple places and didn't enjoy it asuch as I'd hoped. Figured I'd give it another try here. This place was amazing! We got the two main dishes to go, the namesake beef and the B&C Basil and Pork. The server was nice and professional, she recommended doing the crispy style with a home air fryer reheat over the traditional cooking method. There were plenty of other selections I was hoping to get, settled on the most popular for now. Price was fair, 40 bucks for two. I love Japanese food, looking forward to going back!

It was quick service since I was on the waitlist. Once I checked in, I was seated right away and was able to order. I waited about 15-20 min before my food came out. I ordered the chinchikurinyaki because it was the only beef option. Rest were pork based. I miss back then when they let us have the kewpie mayo and oko sauce bottles instead of packets. It would be cool if they allowed meat substitutes because some of the other options for okonomiyaki had variety of toppings. They make it fresh in front of you and they make several at a time so the wait isn't as bad as you think. You just never know which might be yours. Ambiance was casual. They played music typically heard off the top 40/hits. Price with tax at least $20. Restaurant is on the small side though so depending on party size there may be a bit of a wait.

Pork Mochi Skewer (Teriyaki sauce)

Super great experience! Came on a sunday at 6 pm and there was no wait but i heard this place can get a wait. We got the signature one and was so good! I think one would be good for two people to share. Also tried the mochi wrapped in pork which was a like a savory mochi wrapped in bacon.

Scheduled not updated.

Food was ok. Service was ok. This place comparison to tokyotown is not inviting. We picked this place bec it was closer to us eventhough we like toktotown better. Still not that much closer to us it was 30 mins. The server said that its closing at 3 pm. Eventhough the webaite didnt say that. Feels like a waste of time. Never again..i wiah they had system updated

This place is bomb. Nostalgic feeling of being in Japan again. The pork skewers with mochi is so good! So many options with the okonomiyaki, which is like a pancake. You can add any toppings and the noodles can be crispy or soft. But every bite has so much flavor and yumminess! Definitely should try if you're in the area!

Wonderful family lunch on a Sunday. Wanting to avoid the crowds, we arrived as they opened. Oh my gosh...everything was REALLY good! Shared: Chinchikurinyaki- original okonomiyaki. A winner with a layer of flavorful gr beef. This arrived last as it does take a minute to cook down the pile of shredded cabbage. Seasoned perfect. Not overly sauced. Hiroshima-with pork belly slices. Another winner. Topped with Kewpie mayo. Both were really yummy. Crispy battered bottom, full of veggies & noodles. Fried oysters-juicy & plump with a side of kewpie, lemon wedge & O sauce. Fried chicken (karaage)- VERY juicy pre-marinated thigh meat. They do a great job here. Grilled squid- mostly legs & thin strips. Could have been grilled a bit longer. Still yummy though. Spicy Kurobuta sausage- Good. Similar to those sold at J-markets. Umadare cabbage-needed salad or similar. Large crisp cabbage pieces topped with kewpie Mayo, sesame oil & sesame seeds. So simple but so yummy. I'm going to make this at home now. Edamame-Always a great tsumami-mono. Gmas shared Strawberry and matcha mochi ice creams. Served with small dessert forks, as done in Japan! They do refill sodas gratis. My second glass tasted weird tho. Coffee? Reg Coke? Not like the first glass which was great. Didn't complain cuz it was free & we left soon after. On hind sight, should have said something. Their dispensary tubing could've been corrupted... Helpful friendly waitstaff. Open grill for easy viewing of the 2 chefs grilling the Okonomiyaki.

pretty much, everything is really modifiable. they let you take out and add whatever you want (toppings are charged though)

Question is this like yakisoba?

It mostly has the same ingredients, but it's more of a pancake style.

Is one okonomiyaki enough to feed one person because in the pictures it looks pretty small?

Yes. I could not finish one by myself.

An incredibly well-balanced dish with the protein, cheese, and what I believe to be a shiso/perilla leaf incorporated. Crunch was perfect, lots of places tend to overdue it with the batter. This tasted so good it honestly didn't need the tonkatsu sauce (still delish with or without the sauce). Service is phenomenal. I was impressed to see two people essentially taking care of my entire section as the restaurant filled up during the dinner rush. No issues with arrival of food or the pacing. The staff was warm, cordial, and proactively asked if I had questions since I told them it was my first visit. This time the meat looked different and had far too much sauce on it. There was a dark soy-based sauce that was much more noticeable than before. On my previous visits, the white sauce was the main added flavor and the darker sauce was minimal. This time the dark sauce dominated the dish and changed the flavor. The meat quality was also different than previous visits. It was chewy pieces and had a lot more connective tissue. One piece was so chewy that I eventually had to spit out a large amount of connective tissue. At that point I was no longer enjoying the meal. I really do not like returning food, but this dish was not good, so I sent it back. The waitress spoke with the chef and later told me it was "the same as always," but that was not my experience at all considering how much I enjoyed it on my previous visits. Instead, I ordered the 7 oz galbi set. It came with rice, miso soup, kimchi and bean sprouts. The kimchi and sprouts were delicious. The miso soup was extremely plain with only green onions and no tofu or seaweed, so I mostly skipped it. The galbi had a nice beefy, fatty flavor, but it was extremely chewy and over half of it was fat or connective tissue, so I would not recommend it. The rice was fine. I also tried the beef and potato croquette, which I really liked. Despite the disappointing food this visit, I still appreciated parts of the atmosphere. The relaxing music, comfortable chairs, and responsive waitress made the experience more pleasant overall.
