    Flan pudding!
    Joy C.

The food here was great! We went in at 5pm when they opened and had a reservation, but it filled up extremely quickly! Would recommend a reservation or coming right at 5pm Service rushed us a bit throughout the meal. Noting that you should place your full order at the beginning of your meal because it takes 30-40 mins just to grill the meat! Inside is small but the interior design feels like you're in Japan! The food itself was great and each skewer had a different flavor. My favorite was the corn and meatball skewers. We ended our meal with a flan pudding that came with a frozen grape! I overall would recommend coming here, but be prepared to wait for your food!

What a FIND! That we happened here in the first place was a miracle; we were just looking for a quick bite before heading out for some nightlife and happened upon KOSHIJI on an Apple Maps search. Then, when you pull into this pretty large strip mall, you're lucky if you see their front door - not a lot of hoopla to get your attention. But, when you step in, man, get ready for a treat. This place rocks so hard! Yakatori - whatever in the world that means - is amazing. They fire grill everything from pork to shrimp to asparagus to green beans to mushrooms and more - and adorn these with incredible marinades and sauces like none of our party of 4 had ever experienced before. It was incredible! The Yakatori is all presented on skewers and all grilled up to perfection. The price point is even more astounding - figure $4 per skewer on average. Each of the 4 of us had 5 skewers. It was more than enough food. That's $20 a person...come ON! What a bargain. The staff were all really hard-workin', concerned and caring - making sure our orders were right. They were all smiling and lovely. It had family/humble vibes all over it. Here are some of the SKEWER highlights from our evening: STUFFED PORK BELLY (5 stars) ASPARAGUS WITH MAYO (4.5 stars) CHICKEN MEATBALLS (6 stars - if possible!) PORK & ASPARAGUS (5 stars) PORK & GREEN BEANS (4.5 stars) EGGPLANT (5 stars) CHICKEN WITH PLUM SAUCE (4 stars)

Busy little yakitori restaurant, definitely make a reservation. Great izakaya vibes without the smokiness. Pick for some combo meals or order à la carte. Lots of choices but light on beef options. Doesn't have the charbroil flavor you find in authentic izakayas in Japan but it suffices. This is also fun as a happy hour visit.

Delicious all the time. We usually get bit combos and add on extra skewers. My faves are the dark chicken meats, meatball, okra, pork belly, smelt, beef tongue and chicken gizzard.

Sort of accidentally came across this cute little spot that is super intimate and feels like japan. So happy I did!!!! All the skewers we tried were seriously amazing (except for the seafood ones which were eh but that isn't a problem with the place we just don't love grilled seafood in the first place). The beef was sooo juicy and flavorful, and the stuffed mushroom yakitori was such a unique and delicious bite!! It had soft potato inside yum!!!!! The star of the show was the corn, surprisingly. It was seriously out of this world good. I swear it tastes way better and more special than any other yakitori restaurant's corn that I've tried. It's sweeter and chewier and I want 50 of them. One thing I want to point out though is how it took over 20 minutes to get the check. We asked our server for the check and it was clear she forgot because she was doing other stuff for the next like 10 minutes and we couldn't really get her attention again so we asked another server, she said she'd grab it and it took another 10-15 min or so until we finally got it. I'm sure it was an unfortunate coincidence that both of them forgot and it was pretty busy in there so I understand, but it is a bit frustrating in the moment when you're trying to pay and leave. But overall I really enjoyed dining here and I would come back!!

I've been to koshiji multiple times and absolutely love it! The amount of smokiness is just about right and each piece is still juicy, delicious! They have quiet an expansive menu, all the meats I've tried have been outstanding. My personal favorite yakitori stick is tsukune(chicken ball) and I always judge a yakitori restaurant by the tenderness and juicy-ness of their tsukune, they do it right! It's best to make a reservation ahead of time if you can on for fridays and on weekends. I've been able to do walk-ins on a weekday but early when they open. One of my favorite yakitori places in the southbay, defo try it out! :)

Solid yakitori spot! The parking lot is a little rough, but it's large and has plenty of free parking available. The space isn't super big, and it was pretty busy, even on a Thursday evening. We didn't need to wait more than a minute to get seated, though. After ordering, we were each given a small cup of fresh veggies (a small chunk of cabbage with a cute stick of daikon radish and carrot) with a miso dipping sauce, which wasn't crazy, but was nice to just munch on while waiting. Ordering was quick, since we just marked how many of each skewer we wanted on the paper menus. There were picture menus that had the skewers pictured and that listed other available dishes. Service is pretty slow, but I think it's because there were a lot of tables for 2 waitresses. Now, for the food: -asparagus w/ pork: simple, tasty. Literally asparagus wrapped in a layer of thin pork belly. Solid! -pork belly w/shiso leaf: my friend thought it was drier, less fatty than he usually likes -chicken and green onion: classic! Our table's favorite! Mine wasn't salted evenly, so the top was light on salt and the bottom was perfect on salt, but I enjoyed it both ways lol -chicken meat ball: seasoned well, juicy, and tender. Definitely eat this last though (to better enjoy the flavors of the others) because it's more seasoned! -scallop: I don't eat scallops, but my friend found it a little fishy. Wouldn't recommend. -beef: my friend thought it was good and liked the sauce on it. -beef tongue: my friend thought it was ok. The texture was a little chewier than she anticipated (maybe because it was a thicker cut?) -homemade pudding: oddly bitter... while the pudding was smooth, it seemed like there was a thick skin on the bottom. Wouldn't recommend this. (Also just noting that it's pretty small.) Overall, this was a solid yakitori spot! I'd definitely be down to come back if in the area.

    Tori kaarage
    Stefany W.

We came here for dinner and ordered a bunch of food. To start we got the Tori kaarage which was super tasty and perfectly fried. For the skewers we got; - beef - a little overcooked IMO but very flavorful - beef tongue - this was delicious - pork and shiso - my friend loved this - prior and asparagus - my friend also loved this - chicken meatball - I enjoyed this but my friend thought it was too soft and not enough structure - chicken skin - not crispy enough but very flavorful - scallop - very flavorful - eggplant - a little undercooked IMO - corn - loved the charred flavor - chicken soft bone - didn't have a ton to flavor so I had to add some chili flakes to it - salmon - my friend loved this - duck - my friend loved this - stuffed mushroom - it was stuffed with potato which we were not expecting. A little flavorless for me Overall this place was great with the value and quality. Almost everything was very tasty

This is my second time coming here. The grilled skewers are very fresh, though the flavors are a bit mild for my personal taste. Everything feels very authentically Japanese, especially the egg pudding, which really stood out. Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Food: 4.5/5

    When will Koshiji reopen again?

    We will be back 10/5!

Hi, where do we go to make reservations? I dont see anything on the yelp page or restaurant website. When I call, nobody answers.

Hi Kenny, we encourage our customers to call during business hours or within the hour prior of opening.

Are you open for take away or delivery during COVID 19 days?

    Yes to Takeout!

Does this restaurant take reservations for large parties? I am considering having my birthday dinner here.

Is Koshiji still open for lunch? I had gone last Wednesday (9/4/19) for lunch and today for lunch, and they were closed. I tried calling, and their mailbox is full. Nobody answers the phone.

It is open for lunch! They were only closed for emergency circumstances.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it has a really nice, cozy decor with cool Japanese characters on the walls. We went with their popular tempura combo paired with cold udon, and also grabbed a shrimp tempura roll. Everything was amazing! These guys absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to tempura, it's always perfectly light, crispy, and delicious. The service was also fantastic, super efficient, quick, and friendly from start to finish. Plus, having a parking lot in the back makes coming here totally stress-free. People talk about waiting 45 minutes to over an hour just to get a table, especially on weekends, so I decided to come during lunch instead. Luckily, the place was almost empty, which made for an easy visit. Going in, my expectations were high. Since I'm allergic to shrimp, I let the staff know and ordered the beef bowl and tempura combo instead. At around $20, I wasn't expecting cheap fast food, but I was expecting something that justified the price. The tempura was easily the highlight of the meal. It was light, crispy, and fried well, especially paired with the dipping sauce. If there's one reason I'd give this place any credit, it's the tempura sauce. The chicken tempura, however, was a different story. The coating was crispy, but the chicken itself was incredibly bland. It tasted like plain boiled chicken that happened to get dipped in tempura batter. The beef bowl was even more disappointing. Honestly, it reminded me of a Yoshinoya beef bowl--except it cost more than twice as much and came with a noticeably smaller portion. That's a comparison I never expected to make at a restaurant with this kind of reputation. The service didn't do much to elevate the experience either. Considering how slow it was during lunch, I expected a little more attentiveness, but it felt pretty average from start to finish. As for the atmosphere...it was fine. Nothing particularly memorable, nothing that made me think, "I need to come back." Maybe I ordered the wrong items. That's always possible. But based on this visit, I just don't understand the hype. The food was decent--not terrible--but nowhere near worth the long waits, the price, or the reputation it seems to have built. If you happen to be nearby and there's no line, sure, give it a try. But if you're planning to wait an hour because everyone says it's a must-visit, I honestly think you can skip it and won't feel like you missed out. Buyer please be aware.

We were seated immediately with no wait during dinner time, and there's a large free parking lot, so getting in and out was hassle-free. The skewers were good overall, but one thing to note is that they don't have that smoky, charcoal-grilled flavor. If you're expecting a traditional yakitori experience, just keep that in mind. What we ordered: - Momo Kizokuyaki - 7/10 A classic choice. The chicken was juicy and cooked well, but it leaned a little under-seasoned, so it didn't leave much of a lasting impression. - Teba - 6/10 Chicken was kinda dry but seasoning was good. - Harami Beef - 7/10 The beef was tender and cooked nicely, but it also lacked a bit of seasoning. Good texture, just missing that extra punch of flavor that would've made it memorable. - Karaage - 8/10 My favorite dish of the meal. The portion size was just right, and the chicken was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and well-seasoned throughout. - Soboro Don - 8/10 This reminded me of an elevated Yoshinoya beef bowl--in the best way. It had richer flavors, better-quality ingredients, and the fresh ginger added a bright, flavorful contrast that tied everything together. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. Every staff member we interacted with was warm, respectful, and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant was also spotless, which made the dining experience even more enjoyable. Overall, I'd definitely come back. While a couple of the skewers could use a little more seasoning and that signature smoky flavor, the friendly service, clean atmosphere, easy parking, and solid food make this a spot that's worth checking out.

Loved my time at Izakaya Hachi. Went here with a couple amazing friends and my daughter for an…read moreearly dinner. A friend and I shared a pitcher of beer and a couple hot sakes. The drinks and food as well as the setting of the restaurant gives ultra chill vibes - one of the better izakayas I've been to re drinks and food variety and quality. They have some premium wines here too, including Opus One and Kenzo. What would have made this a top notch experience would be once of those semi-private booths with the lower seating that some places have, but this felt like some places we've been to in Japan as well. The only thing I didn't love was that I spent around $400 here (LOL), but we all had a great time so that was fine. Food-wise, we tried the following - Gobo Chips - a friend recommended these to us. He said eating these when drinking will prevent hangovers, headaches, any negative effects, etc. I thought it was cap, but all that beer and sake, I felt great the rest of the evening and morning despite just a few hours of sleep. Large serving of these chips, nicely seasoned, thin sliced, great texture. Even my daughter enjoyed these. Uni & US Wagyu Beef Sashimi - how decadent! Very flavorful. A bit too much sauce for me, but otherwise good. Salmon Truffle Carpaccio - this was one of my fave small plates. Fresh sashimi with ikura. YUM!! Chicken & Green Onion Skewers - Pretty good chicken. My daughter even ate the onions without realizing. Amazing. Chicken Karaage - the daughter's favorite! Goes very well with the beer too. Assorted Tempura - nice assortment of shrimp and veggies, with the tempura dipping sauce. Ribeye Ponzu Steak - beautifully cooked and flavorful. We started with the above, and the food came at various times, but the waits weren't long so we appreciated that. We were still hungry, so we ordered some more stuff - Premium Sashimi - min of 2 orders so we did that. It was good, but I expected a lot more for premium sashimi. It looked more of a single portion, but beautifully presented. Chazuke - we got some for us all - both salmon and mentaiko. Best dish to end a meal at an izakaya. Warm dashi with the riceball in there, seaweed, topped with either the salmon or mentaiko. Subtle flavors, but really delicious. We then looked at a dessert menu and decided to go elsewhere for some sweets. Would def come back to try their pressed sushi, and if we weren't all picky eaters, we'd try their set meal as well.

They not only had a space that big, but it also felt private. The staff was super attentive. The food is great. I ordered a rainbow roll. All the fish was super fresh. Even though we had a large group, we all got our food at around the same time. It was a great lunch for our work pal.

We chose Ise-Shima at the Miyako Hotel for an early birthday celebration with my parents, wife,…read morechildren, sister and nephews. It should have been an easy win. The room is beautiful. The chefs are visible. The staff is plentiful. The music is good. The atmosphere feels like the kind of place that understands hospitality. Unfortunately, the experience never quite came together. The first challenge was the temperature. The dining room felt more like a sauna than a restaurant. To his credit, our server Arthur worked hard to help and eventually got management to increase the air conditioning. He was easily the standout of the evening and did everything he could to salvage the experience. We ordered extensively, including the $130 Ise Course. Some of it was quite good. Some of it was surprisingly disappointing. The grilled lobster with yuzu miso and kinome was completely overcooked, dry and buried under too much sauce. One of the signature dishes of the course ended up being one of the weakest. The grilled yellowtail suffered from the same problem: dry, overcooked and lacking the care you would expect from a restaurant presenting a seasonal multi course menu at this price point. The larger issue was organization. Dishes constantly arrived with servers asking, "Who ordered this?" or "Who has the udon?" The dining room felt strangely disconnected from the kitchen. Food runners seemed unsure where dishes belonged, which created confusion throughout the meal. Then things really went sideways. Trying to be respectful, I asked that my parents be served first. Everyone eventually received their meals and continued eating. The problem was that my Ise Course never arrived in sequence. My family finished their meals. My children finished. My parents finished. My sister finished. And on my birthday, I sat there alone waiting for several missing courses while everyone else watched. A seasonal set menu is supposed to feel paced and intentional. Instead, it felt forgotten. Arthur again stepped in and spoke with management. The restaurant offered complimentary desserts, which was appreciated, although somewhat awkward because my meal was still arriving while everyone else was already moving on to dessert. What happened next genuinely surprised me. When the bill arrived, management returned and asked whether we would be willing to authorize an additional charge so gratuity could be increased from 18% to 20% because of the size of the party. After the heat, the delays, the confusion, the overcooked centerpiece dishes, the missed pacing and spending a birthday meal eating alone after everyone else had finished, it felt like the wrong conversation to be having. I don't enjoy writing reviews like this because there is clearly talent in the building and Arthur deserves recognition for how hard he worked. But hospitality is ultimately about making people feel cared for. On this visit, despite a beautiful room and some good food, that never happened.
