Every now and then, Starbird Chicken will send out emails with links to surveys asking customers about products they're considering to add to their menu. As a token of appreciation for taking the time to fill out these surveys, Starbird would add a reward to your account. Most of the time, the reward is valued at $5, but this most recent survey rewarded me with $6 off my next purchase! Starbird is kind of far from me that I wouldn't go just for some positively delicious chicken. However, when I was planning a day trip to the South Bay, I added Starbird to my itinerary, hoping to use my $6 reward, which was set to expire in a couple of weeks. When I came in, I saw two kiosks in front of the front counter, but since I had a reward to use, I wasn't totally sure if I could use that kiosk or if I had to order with an employee. The employee closest to the front (Jennah?) noticed me and was happy to answer my question. She mentioned that if I redeem my reward in store, a QR code would pop up, and she'd have to scan it to apply my reward. It took me a while to decide what to get with my $6 reward, but I went with the Chicken Parm sandwich, which is Starbird's newest sandwich. I hadn't seen it before, and when I asked Jennah, she mentioned it was added to the menu at the beginning of the year. The Chicken Parm sandwich consists of crispy chicken, marinara sauce, fresh basil, provolone cheese, basil pesto, and roasted garlic aioli on a soft round bun. While trying to redeem my reward in store, Jennah had to ask her co-worker a question about how to apply the reward to the transaction since a customer who ordered earlier in the day was using the same reward. It took a while for them to figure out how to apply the reward to my transaction. The normal price of that sandwich is about $10, so with the reward, I only had to pay $4 + tax, which is a steal of a deal, especially in today's economy. I asked Jennah how long I'd have to wait, and she estimated about 5 minutes, which was a little surprising because I was expecting at least 10. Nope, the actual wait time was 4 minutes, which did make me wonder how they cooked the chicken that fast?! [[HIGHLIGHT]]During my wait, I grabbed a water cup by the drink dispenser and filled it with filtered water before selecting a table to eat my sandwich at.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They have a monitor above the front counter that displays the order statuses. For whatever reason, my name was listed as hb, presumably for Hermosa Beach. I'm not sure my name even showed up in their system* because when my order was ready, Jennah simply said, "Chicken Parm sandwich" out loud. I knew it was mine because there wasn't any other customer inside at the time, but I would hope they don't utilize this practice during peak hours when any number of customers could order the same sandwich or salad. Even though I prefer grilled over crispy, I chose the crispy chicken this time since I hadn't had their crispy chicken in so long; choosing grilled would have also incurred a $1 upcharge, and I wanted an Abraham Lincoln to cover the cost of my sandwich. Unfortunately, the chicken exhibited too much crisp, which was more like on the verge of burnt kind of crisp. Given how quickly they assembled my sandwich, it made me wonder if the chicken was precooked and then tossed again in the fryer for a minute. Either that, or the oil they used must have been old. They use rice bran oil, which is a healthier alternative for frying chicken, but with how nearly burnt the chicken was, it's very possible the oil used to cook my chicken was reused from a prior customer's order. That was really the only blemish in my sandwich; otherwise, I enjoyed the overall flavors of the sandwich that I'm willing to give the third star here. Jennah also did a good job manning the front of the house, including making rounds at cleaning the dining area during her down time. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Before going inside, I went around to look at the outdoor patio and saw they have new umbrellas. Hopefully, these new umbrellas are more resistant to wind, but since it wasn't windy on my last visit, I couldn't tell for sure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was almost 5 PM on a Sunday afternoon, and the only other customers that came inside during my visit were customers that were picking up their online orders. Any extra over 2 sauces are 50 cents additional charge. I got the buffalo, star sauce and blazin ranch. I was really surprised how quick my order was done. My order was ready in minutes. The chicken was super tender and moist. The breading was crispy. The only thing was that I thought the breading was on the saltier side. My coworker recommended Starbird to me, specifically the SFO terminal 1 location but ever since, I've been scanning delivery apps in other cities for a fix. The chicken chop salad, Thai salad, and crispy chicken options are all great but lately I've been reordering the Thai salad. The online allergen list specifies that the Thai salad with crispy chicken contains milk products. After emailing the Starbird team, they've informed me that if you opt for grilled chicken instead of the crispy, the entire order is milk-free. The crispy chicken is marinated in buttermilk, which yields a juicy product, and then coated in a rocky, crumbly, and crunchy breading. Don't get me wrong though, the grilled chicken is also moist. I feel like the Thai salad is somewhat of a misnomer. IMO it eats more like a Vietnamese style salad. The chicken is topped with mint and green onion, placed over an iceberg and shaved cabbage mix with pickled carrot, fried shallot, and sliced cucumbers. The sauce duo on the side consists of a sweet and salty fish sauce dressing and a thick and dreamy aioli. I like to pour the fish sauce over the entirety of the salad and then stab and dunk each bite in the aioli. I don't balk at the price because whoever is making those salads in Redondo fills those bowls so much, the lid doesn't even fit. One item I don't care for is the mango habanero dipping sauce which eats like a thinned out artificially flavored mango jam. It is not spicy nor does it taste like mango so def skip this one if you're trying to experience some Scovilles. I first tried Starbird Chicken during a Yelp Elite Experience event back in 2022 when they were operating as a ghost kitchen. Fast forward to today, and I'm thrilled to see they now have a full-fledged restaurant in Hermosa Beach! Both times I've ordered from Starbird, I used their app, and both experiences were fantastic. I arrived early on both occasions, and the friendly staff went out of their way to accommodate me by preparing my orders ahead of the scheduled pickup time. My go-to order is always their bone-in wings. Starbird offers eight flavors to choose from: Nashville Blazin', Nashville Hot, Cali Gold BBQ, Sweet Thai Chili, Garlic Parmesan, Lemon Pepper, Classic Buffalo, and Plain. For each order, you can select up to two flavors. So far, I've tried the Plain, Sweet Thai Chili, and Cali Gold BBQ. The wings are flavorful and satisfying, though some are a bit on the small side. Pricing starts at $11.47 for 8 wings. In addition to selecting wing flavors, you can add up to two dipping sauces. Options include Star Sauce, BBQ, Buffalo, Ranch, and more. While the sauces are tasty, I've found the wings to be flavorful enough on their own--you don't necessarily need the extra sauce. Aside from the wings, I've also tried their Truffle Fries and Nashville Hot Fries. At $6.97, the fries are slightly on the pricey side, but the flavors are worth it. I loved both the truffle seasoning and the kick of the Nashville spice. Overall, Starbird Chicken is a solid spot for wings and fries. This was my last meal in 2025 and I'm not mad about it. The pictures on Yelp drew me to try this place out. It's a little shop on the corner and when you walk in you can order in person or on a kiosk. It was a really good chicken sandwich. The chicken wings were probably my least favorite of the things we got. They were crunchy on the outside but I felt like quality of the wings wasn't as good as the quality of the other chicken. The garlic Parmesan was just okay for me. I think next time I would try the tenders instead. We got a variety of sauces as the wings came with up to 10 sauces. My favorite was the truffle aioli which was creamy with a nice umami flavor. I've walked by Starbird several times and finally had the pleasure of eating there today. Service was excellent by a hardworking staff(shout out to amazing lead manager Linda)and my meal was ready in only 10 minutes. I recently received a promotion in the mail from the Hermosa Beach restaurant, offering any salad, sandwich, Tender Box, nuggets, or wing order under $15. Intrigued, I decided to give it a try. I ordered a dozen chicken wings priced at $14.97, but the guy behind the counter informed me that the promotion didn't cover wings. So, I settled for a Nashville Hotbird sandwich instead. I'm usually not keen on Nashville chicken sandwiches because they typically use chicken breast, and I prefer dark meat. The sandwich was decent. I liked the addition of pickles and slaw, which provided a pleasant crunch and tanginess. However, I still found the chicken breast lacking in flavor compared to dark meat. Being a fan of spicy food, I was let down by the mango habanero sauce, which turned out to be sweet rather than spicy. Overall, while the sandwich was good and I understand why Starbird has a high Yelp rating, it didn't quite suit my taste. I also sampled the Nashville Hot and Nashville Blazin chicken wings. Stopped in to grab dinner to go and ordered the Orange Chicken and Green Goddess salads and some Lemon Pepper wings. The food came out quickly and we enjoyed their fountain machine while we waited. The staff was friendly and let me know my options to upsize different things with the meal. The food was good they had a good variety of options to choose from on the menu, including Gardein (vegan) chicken. They do have a military discount, which is always nice. I was met by cheerful employees and although I did not stay to eat at the restaurant, it was noticeably clean. I like spicy food so the Nashville Tender Box was a perfect choice. The location is spacious with ample parking in their private lot and offers easy in/out access. I got the 4 piece Nashville tenders and I was pretty happy with it. While the fries were impressive with the right amount of cheese, and fresh out of the oven; I was a bit disappointed with the chicken strips. The spicy style ones are dipped in oil and spices for that classic spicy flair - but there is so much breading and the spice was a bit underwhelming even at a medium heat level. My initial taste of the unique flavors i tried at the event prompted me to try the vegan Chivken sandwich. Omg, would never notice or reject this as not being Chicken IMHO. This is the new jumbo fried chicken tender place on PCH in Hermosa Beach. I didn't realize there was a chicken tender fad going on but we must be in one. There have been lots of grand openings in the South Bay lately: Starbird, Canes, Jollibee, etc. This Starbird location is the most west of them all so perhaps a well strategized place for the beach community commuting home daily. The jumbo tenders here are roughly 1/3 to 1/2 the size of a true chicken breast. The variability of the nuggets is pretty high - Real chicken breasts vary in size so I get that, but you kind of don't want to get the weenie chicken tender. The size of these tenders makes Starbird's competitors more like Cane's or the popular chicken at Knotts Berry Farm. These are not the little nuggets from Chick-fila. And definitely not the reconstituted chicken nuggets of McD's. Thank goodness. As far as taste, I like the generous seasoning on the chicken. I prefer the spicy tenders but the original is good, too. The batter is the right coverage - not too skimpy for these to feel like just chicken but thick enough to deliver crunch and keep the chicken moist. Dipping sauces: They make their own sauces. I admit I tried near all of them and was not a fan of most. I do not like their default Star sauce - it is cloyingly sweet. I do not enjoy Mayo and most of their sauces taste Mayo-based. I know restaurants tout their proprietary sauces... but I would rather just have a side of standard Tapatio, Sriracha or Frank's hot sauce. Thankfully the chicken alone is good and I can pass on the sauce. Fries are not too thin or thick; they are well textured. Slaw was nice conceptually but was swimming in sauce and the kale was not tender -- perhaps staff didn't know to blanch or trim the tough bits. Go with the fries. Love that Thai iced tea is a drink option. Juice stations had 2 nice options too. If you're stuck in traffic on PCH on the way home, Starbird is a nice option. Welcome to the South Bay! read more

Congratulations to Starbird Grand Opening in Hermosa Beach! Welcome to the neighborhood! I used to go to their Lawndale locatiin to pickup take out as it was an online order and locker pick up but the parking situation there is so inconvenience. So glad they opened an actual shop here 5 mins from me. So impressed with their food, and definitely impressed how organized and fast they were. I prefer Starbird over Chick Fila or Raising Cane's 100%. Move over Chick-fil-A, Starbird is times yummier! The batter is so good. I usually avoid ordering chicken breasts at all cost but their chicken breast here is the most tender and juicy I've ever had. Even the French fries are so delicious here. They have an unique vendor for self serve drink station here. They served locally owned unique sodas and daily fresh made teas. Passionate lemonade and their Thai Tea are so good! Easy access, easy parking in the lot and also Indoor and outdoor tables and chairs for dinning. read more

I arrived around 9pm to the shop. There's a decent size parking lot and the inside was super nice! Great interior seating, decor, and lighting. You can order at a kiosk but there was no wait so they took my order immediately. Food came out in 10minutes. Note: A bit confusing at first because the seasonal wing flavors are just the same as the classic flavors paired with one of their sauces. Staff was super nice trying to explain this! 9/10 20 traditional wings $21 - half sweet Thai chili and half Nashville hot. The Thai chili was perfectly coated and a bit sweet and more tangy flavor! Has crispy onions and onions. Super bomb must get! The Nashville hot is a dry rub so their wings are way crispier than the Thai chili (still crispy). Spice level 0/10 spicy. Most of the flavor came with pairing with sauces. I tried spicy Seoul, spicy herb aoili, pickle ranch, honey mustard, and star sauce. All were bomb but spicy soup and herb were the best. read more

No customer service and I asked if something had garlic in it the cashier did not know and the other person working there said no. Turns out there was garlic and I have bad intolerance to it. How do people that work there not know anything about the food that they are serving? read more
