I felt like we got forgotten a couple of times but it was Memorial Day and it was busy. They did honor the lunch special even though it was a holiday which I appreciate! I saw on Instagram that Silvio's had reopened, so I decided to drive from Orange County to check it out. The food was great. The dressing seemed a little more watered down than it used to be, but it still had the same flavor. Unfortunately, the service was not great. The girl attending us had almost no customer service. She was very short with her answers, took our order, and never came back to check on us. Anytime we asked for something, the response felt rushed and brief, which made the experience feel a bit uncomfortable. read more

Update July 2026: docking a full star for the creepy AI answering system that pretended to not be AI with fake restaurant background noise even though it clearly answered slowly and with a delay. It then gave me the wrong info and asked if I wanted a menu sent to me. I said no, it did it anyways by the time the call hung up. I had checked that menu link before calling, it didn't answer my question. All I wanted to know was if there was still food happy hour specials in the summer (there aren't), and I had to physically go in person instead. I would've loved for this info to be on the website, wait staff does spend a lot of time on phone calls. Instead both our time got wasted because I no longer have a way to communicate with the restaurant without going in person. There are still lunch volley bowl deals. read more

Awful!! We ordered steak medium rare and it came out well done and tough. My husband exchanged his and it was slightly better. I don't think the chef even knew how to slice the meat. I could eat half of mine so I did not exchange it. Very disappointed after reading the good reviews. Too much money for awful food! read more

Silvio's is back with the same head chef so the food is as outstanding as it was in the past. The menu is a bit different, but all my favorites are on there. I heard that they'll be bringing in more beer options soon. My only complaint is that the lighting is much too bright at night, which seems like a very easy fix. read more

I've eaten at Panelas in their original Redondo Beach location several years ago, and it was very authentic and flavorful. I was delighted by to see they opened in a beautiful location in Hermosa Beach on Pier Avenue. I first spoke to Alex, and she was very kind. I had a hankering for Coxinha, a favorite Brazilian street food, after seeing Caramelo on Netflix. Also we were celebration a special occasion. We were warmly greeted by the hostess Nikki who introduced to Marcia the owner who was very gracious, welcoming and appreciative. It was a beautiful setting with both indoor and outdoor seating. Perfect view for the now early sunset. The Coxinha was splendid ~ a Brazilian chicken croquette delicate and very flavorful. We ordered the Family dinner which had steak Oucanha, chicken breast and Brazilian sausages. Everything was perfectly grilled. It came with three sides of which we picked the fried plantains, grilled veggies and black beans ~ all delicious. Very reasonable in price. The whole experience was terrific. We can't wait to return for another scenic and tasty dinner. Note: the HB menu is slightly more limited than the RB one which has steak Milanese and Brazilian Feijoada black bean stew with beef, pork and collard. Panela's HB is a great addition to the Hermosa Pier food scene. read more

Coxinha (fried chicken pastry) 8/10 - the chicken inside was very good - The outside tasted like potato, the crispy outside was great Panelas Family Meal w/ 3 sides 10/10 - can feed three people - the steak was cooked to perfection, got it medium rare, not chewy, has a little bit of fat that is good - Steak is great with chimichuri sauce - Chicken was well grilled - Sausage was full of flavor Yucca fried 8/10 - a great alternative to potatoes - Definitely recommend trying Polenta Fried 10/10 - very tasty and paired well with the meat - Very crispy and soft on the inside Platanitos Fritos 10/10 - very good sweet banana - Paired great with the meats giving each bite a sweet taste Caipirinha lime & passionfruit 10/10 - pretty strong can give a light buzz - The lime and passionfruit mixed well with the alcohol Cachaca Cabare 7/10 - reminds me of hennessy, so if you like that you'd like this drink This is a spot worth trying! Everything's that I tried was great, we left very satisfied. Even though some of the items we got were fried, the food was very light. Our server Eva was very kind, friendly and attentive. A friend and I went for an early dinner here. First time for us both. With having my puppy with me sat outside. It was warm and sunny and the sea breeze was so good. It was super clean, including the floors....always a benefit with my dog always purr ng stuff in his mouth that I never know what it is! I'd say the ambiance is relaxed and casual. Really pleasent. We both ordered the Angus burger with cheese on top, with fries. I had mine cooked medium. As an Englishman, I no longer like my meats burnt!!! I haven't had a burger for some time and am no expert. However, it was excellent, to a point of wanting to leave this review. It even looked like the published photo on their menu here!! Service was also excellent, allentive but again relaxed. My experience is easily a 5 Stars, and I will be back with the plan to try the more traditional Brazilian dishes. read more

HAPPY HOUR: For those looking for good happy hours, this isn't it. We were drawn here and felt duped. The happy hour menu is misleading. It looks long but it's really an optical illusion. lol. It's just 3 random things across each day of the work week. 3 things we don't find inticing. No drink variety or food variety. No deals like the neighboring restaurants. DRINKS: Could they improve the beer menu a little? Modelo, Stella and 805 are like a blah grocery store's menu. FOOD: OK, adult steak is kinda fatty. KIDS: not kid friendly though they had kids meals. They perhaps wanted to help by cutting up the kids' steak. Bad that they choose to do this before they cook the steak, making waste of good meat that becomes rubbery to chew. My kids don't have the teeth to chew the overcooked. Our server was nice and friendly but the food was disappointing.. how do you serve this with no shame? got the flavorless tri-tip sandwich and there was barely any meat--probably better that way as the few pieces I got were dry and tough... the bread was huge and thick... fries were definitely frozen and fried yet barely warm... it was all very much hard to eat. Invited to join Hermosa Beach's Chamber of Commerce for Panelas Ribbon Cutting ceremony, I was happy to try Pier Avenues newest restaurant! I don't throw out 5 Stars, but I must hand it to the amazing staff on their big day, despite the city wide power outage, the welcomed customers and guests and worked by the remaining day light until the power was restored with grace and remained calm and professional! Kudos to everyone! With the power outage and as things got dark I didn't stay to order some more of their amazing Brazilian options, their resilience and great service earned them the extra star and a definite return visit! Panelas has patio seating and this evening they had a live guitarist playing acoustic keeping the vibe a happy one (despite the city wide power outage)! The bartender Jessica mixed delicious concoctions, we really enjoyed the Caipirinha which is a Brazilian drink made with lime, sugar and wine based vodka. It can also be ordered with Blackberry or Strawberry; but the original is perfect! As part of the ribbon cutting ceremony they served empanadas (shredded chicken & beef), cheese croquettes and cheese balls. All delicious! I'll be back for these for sure! We ordered the cheese bread which were served in a little basket and were good as well. I had a chance to talk with the chef I believe her name was Marcella (I hope I spelled her name right) and she was obviously passionate about her beautiful craft! It wasn't as outstanding as I remember it before, but that could be for a number of reasons. It was still cooked well and flavorful. You would think this restaurant being 2nd from the pier at Hermosa Beach CA, should be good, if not excellent, because of its location... Sadly, it is NOT!! Do yourself a favor and walk past Silvio's House, as you will end up spending a huge amount of money for food that is not worth what you pay for. This evening I ordered a 'to go' Sea Bass Filet with 3 sides namely, White Rice, Grilled Veggies and Egg Well Done. The Sea Bass was not fresh and had absolutely no flavor at all, the veggies were such a tiny portion of squash and bell peppers and as for the egg, even I make a better egg at home. I guess I spent 38$ mostly for white rice...such a waste of money which could have otherwise gotten me a delicious meal at any of the other restaurants around. I ended up throwing away the food and I will never return to this restaurant, nor recommend it to anyone, as I have begun to frequent restaurants at Hermosa Beach Pier over the last 6 months. read more

I've lived in Hermosa for years and the previous Brazilian restaurant was called Silvio's. I stopped eating there for about 2 years due to many factors. Once Panelas opened, I was skeptical. I visited for the first time 2 weeks ago and had an amazing experience. Better service and better food. They cleaned up the place and the ambiance was perfect. I didn't write a review that day because I wanted to go again to see if they remained consistent. I visited again 3 days ago and it was great again. They know how to treat people and that is very important. They were generous with the food and made sure you enjoyed it. I'll be returning. The Head Chef - Marciella (sp?) was so kind and really made a difference. The waiters have a good attitude as well. read more

I want to give this place fewer than 3 stars because I hate being bait and switched. However, the server was great and the burger was solid. So for those 2 reasons, i will keep this somewhat positive. That being said, their Tuesday special feels like a scam. On the menu they have a burger and fries listed for $19. Overpriced, but it's the pier so expected. However, they have 2 for 1 burger signs up everywhere proudly saying that on Tuesdays you get 2 burgers for the price of one. Now, in no place anywhere are burgers without fries listed for a separate price. A burger and fries is listed for $19. And in no place, sign, or menu does the special say fries excluded. Yet after we ordered our 2 for one burgers we were then asked if we wanted to add fries, since the burgers don't come with fries. We did, so we added them, for $8 each, assuming the price must be different than the $19 since it was a 2 for 1 burger but the fries were lost. Yet when our bill came we were charged the full $19 as if we had ordered the meal plus the $8 for the fries. I don't know if the restaurant is unaware of how bad the verbiage is or if this was blatant bait and switch tactics. But I felt pretty frustrated. Had there of been a disclaimer on ANY of the signage saying the price was different or that it didnt come with fries then it would have allowed us to make a more informed decision. We were on the fence between this place for a burger or getting breakfast foods. The Tuesday special, as it appeared, lured us in. So because of this, even though the burger was solid, we do NOT recommend eating here and we will NOT be going back again. Again, this may have been a simple oversight and not on purpose, but I felt scammed. And as someone in the industry, making the customer have buyers remorse is a bad day for the restaurant. I can't imagine we were the only ones that noticed this and felt this way. read more

Went with a group of friends and we ordered a bunch of apps and one-to-many capiroskas.... The picanha was a perfectly cooked 6oz steak with the most amazing homemade Chimichurri! My favorite dish of the night was the Coxinha! It was a golden croquette filled with perfectly seasoned tender chicken. Everything was absolutely wonderful and we will def come back! read more

Dexter welcomed us and served us. He recommend the Panelas Picanha Steak and we ordered the grilled veggies, white rice and plantains for our sides.
