Florescent lights, shabby wood tables and chairs, plastic menus. This could either be really good or really bad. The bread feels stale and was hard. The butter is individually wrapped. Smashed dirty straws were served with drinks. Huge portions of decent food. The more you eat the more you realize it's not great. Definitely needs salt and pepper but the pepper shakers barely let anything out. I asked for parm (they do not offer!) and they gave it in plastic individual containers which was honestly offensive. Dessert was a huge miss, the creme brûlée was super eggy???? The tiramisu had like a sour milk after taste. My stomach immediately hurt before even leaving the restaurant. This was incredibly tasty. My bf ordered the wild basil ravioli and it was wonderful in both presentation and taste. It was a Tuesday night and we were happy to be seated right away. They give you crusty Italian bread and butter. We ordered the house wine and it's a generous pour. We each had a pasta dish. Everything was tasty. I had the rigatoni and pink sauce with shrimp. I could have been more creative but I wasn't. My guy had the pasta New Orleans. The portions are very generous. Usually I get spinach linguine, but this time I got the grilled veggies base. SO delicious. I ordered the small Gorgonzola & greens salad. YUM. At the end, ordered the lemon bar. It was savory and thick, full of flavor. The service made me feel at home. The server said he looked forward to me returning sooner than 10 years next time. I've been dining at Fritto Misto for years. Can't believe it's taking me this long to write a review. I'll keep it short. Their pasta dishes are probably some of the heartiest and delicious Italian meals you will have in the South Bay. I highly recommend the Cajun Chicken Sheared pasta. It comes in a pink sauce that is outrageously good. The raviolis are also worth trying. And their meat sauce (with any pasta) will keep you coming back for more. The restaurant is conveniently next to a wine tasting room. So, if it's busy and you have to wait for a table, you can always have some wine next door. I cannot emphasize how delightful the staff at this restaurant is. Some of their servers have been there for decades. And they know their stuff. read more

This place reminded me of the simple, humble meals I loved in Italy--not the touristy spots where servers try to pull you inside, but the old neighborhood trattorias where locals stop by nonstop, stacking four or five pizza boxes to take home for their families. The warm bread came out first--simple, comforting, and perfect for kids. (They ended up eating more than we expected!) The pasta tasted like it was made with fresh noodles, and my Puttanesca was packed with ingredients yet still beautifully balanced, just like the no-frills trattorias we wandered into in Italy. The kids' menu was also great--our kids ate everything happily. The only thing I'd change is the water; it didn't taste filtered, so next time I'd probably order wine or bottled water. We got a small Caesar salad, fried pillows, calamari, and two pasta dishes to share between the 3 of us and it was way more than enough food. To start off, the house complimentary bread and butter is so good. It's so warm and toasted perfectly and I could have kept just eating the bread alone. The fried pillows were also good- I'm a big texture girl so I love the fried crunchiness with the yummy cheese on the inside. The pasta was great too! I just finished my dinner. It was what I brought home from Fritto the night before. Yes, they don't skimp on portion size. They're going to feed you, so be prepared to eat hearty. Our party of five had to wait only about 10 minutes on the early Saturday evening that we stopped by. This was our first visit to the not so quaint Fritto Misto. We attempted to get into Spumoni but it would have been a 45 minute wait. Now, this just wouldn't do for the four ladies that I had in tow. When they're hungry there's no appeasing them into having patience. Oh no. When they want it, they want it now. This night I had four regular Veruca Salts on my hands. I needed to put plan "B" into effect. With these four you always have to have a plan "B". We were seated at a wooden table, somewhat rickety, but not so much as to be an issue. It was close to the middle of the restaurant so we got the full experience of the packed house. There were bustling servers feverishly attending to their customers, and those boisterous folks were having a grand time in conversation, drinking, and enjoying their meal. There's life in that building. Happy vibrant life. The food is outstandingly wonderful. Excellent in all aspects. When our plates were placed in front of us it was as if we were at home with the family. All the good memories associated with our youth. Warm, comfort, happy, family. Then.....take cover! The four lovelies were unleashed! Voracious appetites one and all. Conversation stopped. The sound of utensils cutting, swirling, and clanking against the plate permeated the small world around us.... at least for the first few bites. After which calm overcame and rhythm took over. Despite the torrent of the beginning of the meal, it waned in the end. The four being satiated they settled back into conversation while awaiting their take home boxes. SMH, it's always an adventure with those ladies. To describe what each of us had would sort of be redundant. You already know that the food is good. It's all good. Experience it for yourself. I can tell you this, Spumoni is now plan "B". Quick Tip: Parking can be an issue on a Saturday night. You may have to park some distance away. Be careful to not make the same mistake we did. By trying to quickly get the four hungry whirling Dervishes to some food, I unknowingly parked in a 24 minute metered spot. It wasn't until I read the sign that I realized my mistake. Fortunately one of the ladies spun on down the street and guided me to a 2 hour spot. She brazenly stood there guarding it until I could transition. LoL, there was going to be nothing else standing in the way preventing her and her sisters from their feeding. read more

The Hermosa location is amazing. I have been coming here for many years and the food is fantastic each and every time without the crazy prices. It's very unassuming but don't let that fool you. We love the gluten free rigatoni with pink sauce, the regular rigatoni with pink sauce and sausage, the alfredo, the spinach linguini with basil cream, the misto salad, and the lemon bar for desert. Pretty much every dish is really good quality and it just depends what you are in the mood for...you can't go wrong as you can even create your own pasta dishes. Many of the staff "Gabby and Manny" have been there for as long as i have been going and they are so personable and truly the best people. This was our first time at Fritto Misto. We had heard some good things about it so decided to try it. We were so happy we did. This place is so cute. It is comfortable and the service is so great you don't want to leave. It is just spotless and you can tell someone loves this place. It is well cared for. There is nothing not to like here. We tried a lot of things and all of it was wonderful. Our server was so kind to us and she was fast, but never rushed us. The prices here are fair and you get good sized portions. We loved their bread. You must have it. It comes in half loaves and loaves. It is the best, but don't fill up on it. The Jumbo Ravioli is to die for. We had the one with with prosciutto, mortadella, and chicken, tossed with garlic cream, caramelized onions, pancetta, and sun-dried tomatoes. Just OMG. The Garlic Shrimp is great with herb brandy cream, tossed with black and white pasta. It is cooked to perfection. We also loved the Fried Pillows which are stuffed with herb ricotta and fried in vegetable oil and served with a honey chipotle dipping sauce. That I could eat all day. Finally, their Short Rib Ravioli with chipotle chili cream , steak tips, caramelized onions and sautéed mushrooms are so great. And you can add things if you want. There is nothing about this place you will not love. They only take reservations for 6 or more so there may be a wait. Just eat a little early. We waited less than 10 minutes. We stopped by the restaurant for a quick lunch after visiting Hermosa pier. We were kind of familiar with the restaurant since we have visited their sister restaurant in Santa Monica last year. The host was very friendly and we were seated right away. He brought a basket with quite generous portion of complementary breads in couple minutes. Bread was oven fresh warm with nicely baked crust and wholesome crumb. They have a menu with good variety of Italian dishes. I decided to build my own with fettuccine in garlic and olive oil, and seared chicken as protein. The food came pretty fast and I truly loved my order, the fettucine was al dente, the burnt garlic bits were aromatically pleasant and simmered in well-seasoned olive oil. Meals come with complimentary bread & butter that I have learned to take home and consume later (salad + bread = difficulty getting all the pasta down). All the food is wonderful in taste. Return visits guaranteed (even with the hassle of Hermosa Beach's dearth of parking spots). Two all-gender restrooms. DOWNSIDES? They're the size of broom closets. No hooks on the back of the door for hanging your coat. Temperature of sink water changes (from boiling hot to very cold & vice-versa) with a very narrow change in the lever setting. UPSIDE? I also REALLY appreciate that the pricing has largely stayed reasonable over the years for what you get, compared to the newer up-and-coming Italian restaurants charging $25+ for ravioli entrees with only a few pieces. During my visit this past weekend, I tried a different build your own pasta and it's what inspired me to write this review. The CARBONARA!!! It was delicious - better than what I've had in Italy - with lots of pancetta which I was happy to see given the +$7.50 charge to add it. I ate with a group of 4, and we started with the Fritto Misto appetizer. I appreciate that they include fried veggies (and not only seafood) as I don't eat seafood, so it worked for everyone. The house Chianti is decent, and paired beautifully with the authentic Italian dishes. (Fettuccine Alfredo for me, Chicken Piccata for mom!) The crowning jewel was our server, Lauren. Not only was she knowledgeable and well-trained, but she was also gracious and attentive. Good servers are made - but great servers are born. And Lauren was a great server. All experiences have been fantastic with staff & food, although on one visit my sauce was broken and I should have sent it back but definitely not a deterrent from future visits. Pasta is definitely made in house along with pretty much everything else. Some of the specials & really complex pasta dishes can be on the pricier side. I appreciate how affordable the simple choose your pasta & sauce option is. They don't accept reservations. This spot can be really busy during normal dinner times but if you go before 6:30 you can generally get a table easily, no problem.
