We had such a wonderful meal the first visit, Jane selected Bettolino Kitchen for her birthday dinner. Turned out to be a great call. Our hostess set us up in a spacious both, complete with a Happy Birthday sign on the table. We were served by Monty who was superb. Started with a bottle of Cuvée which was reasonably priced. After working on a first glass, Monty took our appetizer order. Forget the name of the dish, but they were delicious crab puffs. Next up, we tried their salad with arugula and other nice ingredients. Again, delicious. Both of our entrees were outstanding. The pacing of the meal was leisurely which allowed us to savor the food and enjoy the evening. Because it was Jane's birthday, she was treated to a dessert. I tried their after dinner drink that was coffee and vodka with other ingredients blended in. Perfect! Really yummy food, beautiful ambiance and great service. We came here for a brunch and it wasn't crowded at all. Really easy parking out front too which is nice. They give you bread and olive oil after being seated and it was warm and super delicious. I ordered the Farrata salad without the burrata (I'm lactose intolerant and can't have cheese.) I got it with shrimp added. It was super delicious! The perfect salad... healthy ingredients yet it's also warm and comforting from the farro and quinoa. The flavors are great. I would definitely get this again! The shrimp was good but pretty plain, so I'd be curious to try it with another protein or just getting it without any would be fine too. I also got a cappuccino with almond milk which was good too, and it was topped with a cute B for the restaurant but it was also perfect for me because of my name :) Great meal here! I originally planned to visit for their Monday date night special but ended up stopping by on a Friday instead. The experience was enjoyable overall, despite a slow start. While the host was too busy to greet us, the busgirl was quick to notice and got us to a table, and our waiter was very friendly throughout the night. The Pear Necessities cocktail and Calamari were a perfect start. The Brasato was the highlight--everything on the plate worked perfectly. We made reservations for our family a few weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. When we arrived, there was a complimentary Photo Booth at the entrance. It was fun to take photos and have them sent to our emails. During Happy Hour, drinks and appetizers were $3 off. We enjoyed the calamari and the cocktails. Our table ordered a variety of entrees and beverages. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. Only downer was when we brought a small cake and asked our waiter to hold it for us. He said it would be a $20 cake fee. He did not cut the cake and only provided plates at the end of the meal. Guess I should have asked ahead of time if there was a cake fee. Some restaurants offer a dessert to the person celebrating their birthday, but none was offered. The restaurant was busy by the time we left before 6:30. Glad we got to try them. Definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the South Bay! Handmade and fresh pasta?! How can you beat that. I keep going back and I honestly eventually want to try each pasta dish. The GNOCCHI CON TARTUFO is by far one of my favorites. The truffle isn't too overpowering and everything is light. The pasta cake is so unique!!!! Would definitely recommend because the texture was so soft and fluffy but chewy at the same time. It wasn't too sweet and honestly the perfect size for two people to share after both eating pasta lol. Service is amazing, staff are always so friendly. They also give fresh bread out and make sure you're doing great. Ambiance is nice, dog friendly outdoor area. There are those space heaters as well. There is a big parking lot that gets busy and street parking. I would recommend making a reservation unless if you're okay waiting a little for a table. My family and I visited Bettolino Kitchen for a joint birthday dinner for myself and my dad. I chose the restaurant because of all the positive Yelp reviews, particularly for a great place to celebrate a birthday. We made a reservation in advance and mentioned that we were celebrating two birthdays. Our server was friendly and wished me a happy birthday when she checked my ID. I shared that it was also my dad's birthday and that we were out to dinner to celebrate. We started off with delicious complimentary bread with olive oil and herbs. For appetizers, we ordered the gnocchi fritti which I really enjoyed. Loved the texture of the gnocchi with a hint of cheesiness. The brussels and balsamic appetizer was just okay--needed a bit more flavor or something to make it stand out. I got their version of a Moscow Mule (Mule 310), which was light. The pear puree flavor didn't really come out through, but the drink was refreshing. For my main, I got the pistachio-crusted halibut. I really enjoyed the flavor of the fish with the pistachio coating and mashed potato base. It was a really solid dish. I also got the gemelli rafano, their short rib pasta. This dish would have been an absolute hit, but the pasta was way too al dente to the point of being undercooked. I ended up taking it home and heating it up to cook it through a bit more. One of my family members got the salmon and everyone agreed that that was probably the best dish. For dessert, we ordered their flourless chocolate cake to share. It was just okay honestly. The vanilla ice cream was heavy on the vanilla extract so left me with an artificial taste. The thing that really disappointed me was that they didn't do anything special for our two birthdays. I understand that not every restaurant does complimentary desserts which is fine, but not even a candle so that we could sing happy birthday. We went there last night to celebrate our son's 25th birthday. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with happy faces and congratulations. We took a photo in the Photo Booth which is such an added pleasure to document the visit. Our server, Monty was in training but he has the personality and confidence as an old timer. What I really like is their children's menu, finally a restaurant that doesn't just have your typical American food like chicken tenders, pizza, grill cheese, hotdogs or hamburgers. They actually have mini adult portions for the kids like Salmon, veggies, pasta, and fruits, for desserts fruits with chocolate drizzle. Something I would eat. What I do love is that they had gluten free Wednesday but it is no longer part of their menu. I will say, they made one of the best gluten free pastas I have ever had! But, the good thing for gluten intolerant people, they use imported Italian flour (for gluten intolerant people you can eat this without any issues! Just the pasta thou!). To most people, if you were told one of the best meals of your life could be found in a strip mall between a supermarket and a liquor store, you'd probably be wary. Of course, those who know, the places where you'd blink and miss it is exactly where it'd be. We were in the neighborhood and asked our life long Palos Verdes/Redondo Beach friends where would be the best place to have an anniversary dinner. They listed off a few places, but Bettolino's was on top of their list. We drove down PCH, as any good California adventure should start, and found ourselves moments from the beach, but a left turn took us into a dumpy little parking lot. We walked in and were quick to realize just how busy this place was...we didn't have a reservation on an early Saturday night, but the hostess was generous enough to give us a table, we just had to leave in 90 minutes which was more than enough time to enjoy a nice quiet dinner. The vibe of the place reminds me of The Bear...without the stressful family dynamic. The menu is daunting...not because it is huge, but because everything sounded absolutely amazing. First off, they have plenty of cocktails to choose from...but when I saw a mixture of my two favorite things, an old fashioned and banana bread, well I had to get that. Served in a brandy snifter with a giant ice cube and a banana chip, when set down in front of you, you immediately smell whiskey and banana bread. On first sip, you taste both, and none of the flavors are subtle. Definitely take your time and enjoy this drink, but don't wait too long because when the ice melts, it opens up the spirits too much and it doesn't pack as much of a punch. Onto the food...we ordered a caesar salad to start and it came with some of their fresh baked focaccia. The salad comes with two giant parmesan cheese chips and it is very creamy. The perfect way to start off a meal. The bread and olive oil is phenomenal...freshly baked...crunchy exterior and pillowy soft in the middle. Dipped in the olive oil with herbs and I think a hint of lemon, the meal could have ended there and we would have been satisfied, but then our entrees came out. My girlfriend ordered the tortellini al limone...spinach and ricotta filled pasta drowned in a lemon cream sauce. Usually drowned is an adjective that's pejorative, but in this case we both wanted to swim in it. Like the drinks before it, there was nothing subtle about the flavors of that sauce. You know upfront that it's a lemon cream sauce. Then you take a bite of the pasta. The pasta is so thin and yet so tender. You can cut right through it with a spoon. When you get a harmonious bite of pasta, spinach, ricotta, and cream sauce, you understand why this restaurant is so loved. I ordered the brasato...which is really a fancy way in Italian to say, pot roast. Wine braised boneless short rib, served on a bed of mascarpone mashed potatoes, sauteed green beans, and a mushroom sauce drizzled around the plate. I used my knife to cut the first chunk of short rib, but it wasn't necessary. The short rib was so tender, it fell apart faster than a jenga tower. The hint of sweet, caramelized red wine on the meat, mixed with the cheesy, smooth potatoes, with a hint of the mushroom sauce was mind blowingly good. Contrasted with the textures of the perfectly snappy green bean, this wasn't like any pot roast I had. For as good as my meal was, I was a bit disappointed in it...not because it wasn't good, but I wish I had ordered pasta instead. They have a pasta version of this dish too, so I will be getting that next time. We were absolutely stuffed when we finished our plates, but since we told our amazingly waiter John that it was our anniversary, he brought out a slice of Calabrian pasta cake for us. Think bread pudding, but with pasta...loaded with orange zest and a cream sauce, served with a strawberry for a hit of brightness. An amazing meal in an unexpected place...just how you want to celebrate a ninth anniversary. We live in Burbank and it took two hours in traffic to get down here, but it's a journey we're willing to make again someday. Yes, we're a stones throw from good, even great Italian food nearby, but this place is special. read more

I've been coming here since 2021, and it just dawned on me that I've never taken the time to leave a review. Tucked away in a small shopping plaza with a Vons and BevMo is this family owned business. That said, parking can be hit or miss. If you have a reservation, plan to arrive 5-10 minutes early. Based on Shane's customer service alone, this place deserves five stars. He was friendly, quick and efficient, and answered all my questions about the menu with a smile. Tonight I ordered the Riviera Risotto. It was well-executed; the risotto had a pleasant texture and wasn't overly salty. I do wish the scallops had been seared just a little longer to get more of a crust, but they still made for balanced, satisfying bites. I finished my plate CLEAN. I also appreciated that Shane double-checked with the kitchen to confirm which desserts were nut-free. Everything that came to the table -- beverages, complimentary bread, entrée and dessert was perfectly timed. That said, I do have a couple of small critiques: 1) The Calamari Appetizer has been changed to the Calamari con Gamberi, and there's no longer an option to order squid on its own. 2) I'm glad to see the sweet corn risotto with scallops and pancetta is now a permanent menu item, but it currently features smaller scallops instead of the larger bay scallops it had back in 2023. Bettolino Kitchen continues to deliver high-quality Italian cuisine without compromising on integrity or care. My request to book a large party dinner to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday was not important enough for them to follow up with me in a timely manner. I completed the "Celebration" link a month before our intended dinner and the staff reached out to me three weeks later with less that a week before the planned date. We were greeted and seated promptly and our server came soon after. The ambiance changes from before 4:30pm to after. They dim the lights for the Friday evening patrols. The restaurant is nice and inviting. We enjoyed three appetizers l: Calamari, which also included shrimp. We all love the dipping sauce it came with. Brussel spouts as meat, which we loved, but fyi. It's super flavorful, has a crunch, but not the air fry type crunch. In case you look for that. It was good. Focaccia bread---so good. We also got prosciutto with it that came on the side. I don't know we needed that. I think that bread was amazing on its own. For our main dishes: I got the gnocchi and it was very fresh and soft, with sausage, lush greens and mushrooms. I think for a vegetarian this could be a good option without the sausage too! We also got a salad with shrimp (fresh greens and large shrimps) and an order of the speziata pasta that comes with chicken and pesto with cilantro oil. The family also shared the chocolate flourless cake with strawberry and vanilla ice cream! I also highly recommend the dirty chai with oat milk, I had two! I came in with high hopes, especially for the bolognese. When I think of bolognese, I expect a rich, hearty meat sauce with plenty of depth and well-seasoned chunks of meat paired with a sturdy pasta. Unfortunately, what I received was a bowl of fairly mediocre pasta with very little actual meat sauce. The meat that was there was sparsely and randomly distributed and tasted underseasoned. The dish also seemed to be sitting on some kind of cream-based sauce with a drizzle on top (possibly pesto, though I'm not entirely sure), which made the whole thing confusing rather than cohesive. We also ordered a side of meatballs, which were mushy on the inside and lacked flavor overall. So why three stars? One bright spot: my wife ordered the halibut, and she genuinely enjoyed it and said it was very tasty. That definitely helped the overall experience. Service was a bit slow--not terrible, but not memorable enough to offset the disappointment with most of the food. Overall, this was a place we were excited to try, but it didn't live up to expectations. Unfortunately, it's moving onto our "probably won't return" list, though I do hope they tighten up some of the execution because there's potential here. read more
