Dined at Vida last night on a mother daughter date night and had a pretty good night, overall. Solid, 4.5 stars. Loved their fresh fried chips served with salsa upon seating. We ordered a side of guacamole, which my daughter loved. Her and I shared a three taco plate with rice and beans. We had the fried cod, asada and carnitas. I'll be right there. The tacos were definitely sizable and we weren't able to finish our share plate. Good flavor loved the freshly fried fish steak crispy even with a huge mound of guacamole on top. The Carnitas had a cinnamon flavor which I've never had anywhere else before, but I surprisingly liked it. Must try our Max's Margs. And my daughter said the best Shirley Temple's she's ever had. We came right at dinner time so they were very busy. We had to wait for our food, but it is what you would expect at a dinner time rush. The staff was very friendly and Dylan was on top of it! He continually checked in on us to make sure we were doing OK and took great care of us! Great little restaurant at the Riv. If Modern means Bland then yes. They got something going here. Probably should not assume food is good or going to taste the way you imagine. Best of the bunch. Today was the asada vVda burrito. Deassada was fresh, tender and juicy with lots of flavor. All the other ingredients blended well. It was on a smaller side but just enough. Albondigas was the worst of the order. It was hardly a soup that brought savory broth feeling and tender meatballs that comfort you. Instead the broth was super bland, meatballs were flavorless and too firm to cut with the. Had lots of veggies which was a plus if you like sweet with veggies which I do. I just wish they were also tender, swimming and good broth. Most restaurant serve fresh chips and salsa which they did. Complimentary chips were hard. This also was too heavy on oregano. Ordered some guacamole but had to ounce for them to cook fresh tosadas so we could eat with the guac instead of the hard chips. $14 wasn't too bad for the price and the portion. I did enjoy the one fish taco that I ordered. Was huge portion but stacked so high that you could barely close the tortilla. This is the first time I bought a flour. Tortilla worked well for the taco. It was also bland but I was able to salvage it with some of their spicy salsa that I requested. Places are heavy on the alcohol and drink menu which likely is a draw. I actually really love the Paloma which was non-alcoholic. However, the food must meet the mark and today I am sad to say it missed on several points For my standards. I really did appreciate the staff who were all very helpful, super friendly and did their best to accommodate all of our asks. Stopped by for lunch today and had a great time! Vida is located in the Riviera Village area of Redondo. There's street parking everywhere, though you may need to hunt for it a bit during rush hours. Vida has both indoor and outdoor seating, I personally would recommend the outdoor area with the sunny weather we've been having, as the indoor area doesn't really have AC from what I could tell. Regardless, the place has a great vibe. Service was awesome, our server was prompt and checked up on us throughout the meal, and everything came very quick. On the food front, their chips and salsa are great, and I'm a fan of their guacamole. I got the 2 taco lunch special with an asada, a cod fish taco, and a side Caesar (you can also do rice and beans if you want instead). The fish taco was excellent, and the carne asada was pretty good (it was a bit on the dry side because of how crispy the meat was, but it was still tasty). The salad was also good too, though slightly overdressed. Overall, this is a great spot for lunch or an early dinner, and I absolutely recommend checking it out. It was our first time here and I've always wanted to try this place! Upon arrival, the hostess honestly seemed a little bothered that we were there to dine, which wasn't the best first impression. Thankfully our waiter John completely changed the experience. He was attentive, friendly, and served us with a smile the whole time. We sat inside and the place was super cute! Of course our fur baby Louie joined us and stayed cozy right beside me the entire time The tacos were sooo yummy! I had the shrimp and asada tacos and let me tell you... the shrimp were huge and packed with flavor. The beans and rice were delicious too. But my FAVORITE was the ahi tuna tacos! I loved every bite and could eat 5! lol I'll come back just for that. The only disappointing part was noticing that some of the glasses looked dirty. Came here around lunch. The good: the chips they give you beforehand are excellent. Warm and seasoned + the salsa... top notch. The waiter/ waitress were friendly. The ok: the rest of the food. I got the breakfast burrito, which I should have checked previous reviews because it doesn't seem like they get praised very often. My wife's scramble was just ok, but she said definitely greasier than she anticipated. The bad: the time it took us to get our food. My wife said she noticed people around us ordering after us and we received our food about 10-15 min after those same people. I'm wondering if an item was missing or they missed our order initially since it took an abnormally long time for us to receive our food. We also had a 2 year old who was not on his best behavior, so mix the much longer wait with that, and as you can imagine it wasn't the best experience. The host also wasn't very friendly and it felt like we were burdening her just by being there. Kind of a bummer, as this was our first time trying this place. read more

Found this cool spot for lunch in Redondo Beach in the Riviera Village.. chill vibe sitting outside on the patio people watching while enjoying excellent food. Alyssa did a great job waiting on us. The food was really tasty, best Mexican restaurant I've been to in a while. I had a killer Vida burrito and a superb tasting Caesar salad ,my wife had enchiladas in which she loved and my daughter had the quesadillas which were also excellent. The restaurant inside also has a counter that you can sit at where you can watch the main street... great spot for a light lunch and a beer. Our server was really good and helpful. But we noticed he was the only server for about 20 customers and he was responsible for the outside patio and the indoor tables. There was a girl helping him but she wasn't really good at customer service. When she brought my food, she told me to be careful that the plate was hot but then didn't even put it in front of me. She just pushed it over a little and it ended up to the left of me. I started to say something but she was gone. Didn't even ask if we needed anything else. I had to move my plate over myself. Luckily she was wrong about the plate being hot. Seems like this place is not well managed. I was hoping this place would be really good because the food is clean of any seed oils. I remember seeing other healthy things on their menu but can't recall them right now. Overall the food was ok. I gave the place an extra star for not using seed oils. Otherwise, I would have only given them 2 stars. Cadillac margarita - 3 Refried beans - 2 I was offered beans and rice for an additional charge. I paid $2.50 for a squirt of beans on my plate that didn't have much flavor or maybe there wasn't enough beans to be able to taste them. I know it's not a lot of money but it sure seemed to me that the little squirt should have been included with the meal. Guacamole - 2 This was basically flavorless. Carnitas taco - 2 I noticed in some of the other reviews that there various sauces for the tacos. We weren't offered any. So basically the carnitas and the steak taco were just meat and tortilla. The carnitas had a different flavor that i couldn't identify and I didn't care for. On my way home, I stopped by Northgate Market and picked up some carnitas and guacamole and had a much better meal. First off, don't come here expecting authentic Mexican food. It is not. That aside, I think they do Californian Mexican real well. Walked by during taco Tuesday and saw they had a special, $2.50 per street taco which isn't terrible so decided to give them a try. Staff was super nice, we were able to select our table and sit down. Took a little while to get our order taken and for the food to come out. I did a walk in and sat at the bar since I didn't have a reservation. I went based off the high reviewed. I'm not sure about parking since I was casually strolling down the street when I visited. I checked YELP and saw such high reviews so I was excited. Customer Service was great. I ordered a carne taco and a chipotle chicken taco. They were the most flavorless tacos I've ever had in my life. The only winner was that the tortillas were fresh. I also had a Paloma which is one of their most popular drinks and that too was nothing but grapefruit flavoring no alcohol no effect. Ambiance was average, sitting at the bar was ehh as the seating was close to the kitchen and there was no air. All in all I would not return here. It was solid, and I could tell they use fresh ingredients, but overall it felt just okay. Maybe under seasoned ? To be fair, they were working out of a mobile setup, so I don't want to judge too harshly. That said, when you hear "burrito bowl," it's hard not to compare it to Chipotle (am I telling on myself?) and I'd say this landed about one notch below that. Joe was our server and he had amazing customer service and attentiveness, although they had a full house! I appreciated him also recommending a fruit plate for our toddler. We came here for lunch a different day and the service wasn't the best so I mentioned it prior to this visit and the service for dinner was night & day difference from our last experience. I was not expecting such a great experience here. We came on a Monday afternoon for happy hour (they also have daily specials, but I think that we preferred the happy hour specials). They told us we could sit anywhere. It has a modern feel, plus lots of TVs, so maybe also a sports bar-vibe? They had the Olympics on, so I'm not complaining. They provide complimentary chips and salsa. I actually really liked the seasoning on the chips. Salsa was pretty good as well. We ordered a few tacos off the happy hour menu: fish taco, fried shrimp taco, chicken mole, and asada. Did not expect them to be as big as they were! Between two of us, we were stuffed from 4 tacos and could barely finish them. I really liked the chicken mole. I thought that the addition of the slivered almonds, pepitas and radishes was a delicious touch that really enhanced the texture with a bit of crunch. However, I got the scooner of Max's marg and thought that it was sorta of weak. Couldn't taste much tequila. The other downside was that there was a really loud party at the other end of the restaurant and one of them had a really sharp voice. I get that they probably were also enjoying the happy hour, but it really echos throughout the restaurant... and I don't think the servers can do much to quiet down a rowdy table a paying patrons... read more

I'm very disappointed with the Birria Breakfast Burrito. It is terrible. I'm throwing it away in the trash. Look at the picture. It is super dry and does not smell good at all. The hash browns were barely cooked. The eggs is mixed with the birria and tasted like it was made hours ago and just sitting there. Their other dishes are much much better. Vida has quickly become one of our favorite spots in RB! The food is consistently delicious -- my personal favorites are the mexican pizza, the carnitas taco, and the chicken chipotle taco. My daughter is a big fan too, and her all-time favorite chicken quesadilla is from here. The service is truly what makes this place stand out. Rio was amazing -- so genuine, attentive, and friendly. She gave great recommendations, checked in on us often, and somehow provided incredibly prompt service even while taking care of the entire packed patio by herself. She never made us feel rushed and took such great care of us. Shoutout also to Ari at the host stand, who was so kind and thoughtful. She was quick to bring things to keep my baby girl busy and didn't hesitate to help with extra napkins after a quick spill -- which any parent knows is a lifesaver! Went on a Saturday evening and the street is very busy at that time. We were able to get in without a wait. Chips and salsa and water were dropped off immediately, and service was prompt. We dined in side. The tables are close together and it is very noisy inside. Food- hubby had the el pastor taco and the cod taco with rice and beans. Both were good, he liked the guacamole on the cod taco. I had a tempura cauliflower taco, the cauliflower pieces were cold so it wasn't quite how I would choose to have it. Fried food doesn't taste that good cold. My other taco was mushroom, it had diced mushrooms with salsa and guacamole. I feel like more attention could be given to sweet/sour/savory balance on these. They came on gluten free sweet potato tortillas that had a great texture, I didn't detect sweet potato in the flavor, they were just good tortillas. The salsas had good flavor. read more
