Shredded Chicken Crunchy Taco, Pastor Crunchy Taco, and Shredded Beef Craft Taco
    Lisa Y.

A nice spot for a quick lunch and affordable tacos! A friend recommended Casa Playa located in Riviera Village for their crunchy tacos. They did not disappoint! They're simple--lettuce shredded cheese, and your choice of protein on a crispy corn tortilla. I got one with shredded chicken and one with pastor, and both were tasty! I also got one of their craft tacos. For the same price, it comes with a soft corn tortilla, avocado crema, pickled red onions, cilantro, and your choice of protein. I got the shredded beef with this one, and I think it went perfectly in a craft taco! They also give you some chips and a couple of cups for salsa. They have a self-serve salsa bar with a variety of different salsas ranging from mild to volcano. I enjoyed the mild salsa and the "Salma Hayek" which has a little heat and a little sweetness to it! I was told this is one of their most popular salsas! It wasn't crowded on a Saturday afternoon, and we got our food pretty quickly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have both indoor seating, as well as outdoor seating. Perfect for enjoying the nice weather![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Burrito gone, no evidence left--so here's the bathroom art contemplating its own existence.

Casa Playa in the Riviera is one of those spots that just gets it right every time. The service is consistently warm and on point -- whether I'm rolling in with full family chaos or (rare, sacred moment) flying solo at lunch. And speaking of that... I swear the staff low-key appreciates the quieter version of me when I'm not accompanied by two tiny tornadoes who've just redecorated the table with rice and beans. Respect all around. Let's talk food. The salsa lineup alone deserves its own standing ovation. The "Salma Hayek" is smooth, flavorful, and dangerously easy to keep going back to, while the "Diablo" has that "you did this to yourself" kind of heat that sneaks up and makes you reconsider your life choices -- in a good way. They've got options for every level of heat tolerance--from "I dabble" to "I've made several poor decisions and I'm going back for more." The kids are ride-or-die for the bean and cheese burrito, which is clutch. My wife always locks in the veggie tacos and never misses. But for me? It's the deluxe carnitas burrito. Every time. No notes. It's the kind of order you don't even think about -- just muscle memory at this point. Whether it's a family outing or a peaceful lunch reset, La Playa delivers. Easy five stars.

Good food and good service, I would recommend this local business! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I love the vibrant colors of the decor and the family friendly demeanor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Location: In the Riviera Village on S Catalina close to the cross street of S Elena Ave. Unique: - They offer a discount if you use cash to pay - Locally owned - If you live within 3 miles of the restaurant, they will delivery on orders $18 and up. - A large and accommodating menu I would come back, I loved the street corn and the beef enchiladas have good flavor. As I left with my to-go meal, the staff waved and said thank you and goodbye. Such a great team!

Great food. Prompt, kind service and workers. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Love the hole-in-the-wall feel of a place like this, especially when so close to the beach.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

A cool casual place for Mexican food. We are here to try their $2.35 Taco Tuesday street tacos (regular $3.59). Overall experience was pretty good, tacos are tasty, and the service was excellent. The salsa bar provides 6 delicious options from mild to volcano, and one called Salma Hayek! Complementary chips is definitely a plus!! Note: for the Taco Tuesday deal, the ASADA and a couple meat options were not available, which is a disappointment since it's our preferred and the other stores offer it.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Casa Playa is a cute spot for a quick dinner with friends or family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat at the bar, and the place had a chill, casual vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Only parking option is valet, luckily it was just $5 and they took Apple Pay--huge win. We ordered the chicken tacos, and honestly the meat tasted just like the chicken from Angel Stadium's helmet nachos, so I'd probably try a different protein next time. It's a solid spot for a quick and cheap meal, and chips and salsa are included, which is always a plus.

I think when we ordered nachos, they thought we said nacho soup. With maybe 5 chips sticking out of the top, and maybe 5 chips at the bottom, my 10 chip nacho was more of a stew than a nacho. However, the flavor was good. Add some chips and they got something there. My wife got chilaquiles and those were pretty good. The place was well decorated, there were a lot of customers, and the food came out quick.

I usually come for the Baja Fish Tacos; they're a good size, delicious and filling! I wanted to try their street tacos and birria tacos one day. Carne asada street taco was yummy, but the birria was so burnt i couldn't even take a bite. Disappointed but I'm thinking i just caught them on a bad day though so would still go back.

Been on the look out for incredible authentic Mexican food. I found it here in Casa Playa. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With delicious food and chill surf style ambiance, the only thing that beats it out was the service from, Shawn.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He was very welcoming and friendly. We got the Birria tacos, Cali Burrito and Orange Bang to drink. Everything exceeded our expectations. 10/10 would recommend and will be coming back.

Deluxe burrito with carne asada and added green sauce. Pretty mid.
    Mike H.

Heard about this place from a coworker and decided to give it a try. Staff was very friendly and gave great service. I ordered the carne asada deluxe burrito and added green sauce. The green sauce was a bit salty for me and the burrito barely had any meat in it or the meat was shredded so fine it was overwhelmed by the rice and beans. So I didn't taste any meat. Overall, probably won't go back considering there's so many great Mexican restaurants in the South Bay that do it better.

My son had the kids enchilada and enjoyed his meal. I ordered 3 tacos from the à la carte menu. The chicken was fine but the fish and shrimp were undercooked and I couldn't eat them, which is why I deducted the one star. The other deduction was for the underwhelming flavors in the meals themselves. Usually when a Mexican restaurant had amazing salsa, the same vibe carries through with the entrees , but unfortunately it wasn't my experience. I would probably try once more and edit my review based on a second experience.
