I've been coming to Zane's off and on for a few years now, and the quality of the food just keeps getting better. The atmosphere immediately transports you--like stepping into a New York-style restaurant--making it clear you're in an elevated dining environment. The manager, Christine, is an absolute gem. She sets the tone for the entire team and trains her staff to deliver impeccable service every time. Also, best espresso martini on the pier by a mile.

Front- bad fish. Back-really really bad fish.

Drinks, service, atmosphere were all great. Then there's the food. Not so great. I was starving, so I was excited when the server told us that focaccia bread was coming out. It was piping hot and looked delicious. It was not. It was so bland. Even with the cheese/herb topping. Does bread need salt?! Because this needed...something. It was just super disappointing. Then for the entrees...I got the eggplant Parmesan. It arrived lukewarm-the cheese on top wasn't even melted all the way. It tasted good, so I guess there's that. My friend got the sea bass. It was a perfect oval shape like it had been processed and pressed into a mould. It was stringy and tough. The butter sauce had good flavor, but the fish was just BAD. The bartender offered to have the chef cook another one but it was equally as bad. It at least looked like fish, but still had a tough stringy texture. The bartender took it off our bill but did not seem surprised that we returned it to the kitchen. The drinks were delicious and the appetizer (zucchini) was really good. But I'd stop at that point knowing what I know now. Drinks, apps-yes. Entrees-no.

Everything went extremely well this evening while traveling through Hermosa Beach with my friend. We stopped in the most charming part of town and looked up reviews on this application. We were greeted with extremely nice smiles and happy people into an environment of joy and great smells. Daniela or Danielle? Was our waitress and she was sparkling with humor, intelligence, and a wonderful everything else. The most important thing here was the food and it did not disappoint in anyway I had calamari and then the black truffle pasta with shrimp and my friend had the salmon with vegetables. Both were perfectly cooked, spiced and delicious in every way. The beer selection was also important to us and it did not disappoint. Do yourself a favor and steer your Body and soul to this restaurant. You will not be disciplined.

Every dish was a winner. Great ambience. The grilled artichoke, focaccia made in-house, shrimp scampi, and cocktails were all scrumptious. Service was stellar. Plus we met a couple who sat next to us and made a second date.

There's a real chew here--a springy, structured bite that gives just enough resistance before yielding. It's deeply satisfying and makes every dish feel more intentional. The cappelloni shows it off best: that almost-famous sauce wraps around each piece, but the pasta holds its own, so you get that perfect balance of silky and structured. Same with the tangiello--the meat sauce tastes like it's been simmering for days, rich and layered, but the noodles never get lost because that chew carries through. The Caesar isn't an afterthought either. It's got a subtle spicy kick that wakes everything up, and if you add chicken, it's done right--well-seasoned, nicely grilled, juicy with a bit of char. It turns a classic into something you actually remember. Dinner is where things go a little heartier, and the pork chop delivers. Fall-off-the-bone tender, but still full of flavor--not just soft for the sake of it. Jame just gets the fundamentals right, then pushes a little further. Thoughtful, textured, and the kind of place where even the chew of the pasta becomes part of the experience.

The sauce was well balanced and wispy. I usually don't like olives, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the olives here. I think it had to do with the fact that these olives were marinated, not brined. I don't like briny stuff. The Tonnarelli was the highlight of the meal. The sauce was thick and creamy, and coated the pasta nicely. The pasta was cooked al dente, making it perfectly firm and chewy. For my drink, I had the Light and Stormy mocktail which had lemon, ginger, lime, and mint in it. It was slightly carbonated and tasted like a really good virgin mojito. I would say the service here was good, not great. It took like 10 minutes for a server to come to us after we were seated to take our order. However, our server was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu items. Parking here was tricky. There were lots of reserved parking spaces on the lot for specific businesses. You may get lucky finding an open parking spot on site, but we had to drive around to find one. This place is a nice spot for family gatherings. I think we will be back soon to try out more items from the menu.

Food here over the years have evolved with some changes my wife and I wasn't too happy with after Cheesecake Factory bought them out. This last visit has reversed everything I didn't like about the changes and it literally has returned to its previous glory. Food was absolutely amazing this run! I came with my wife and mom (her first visit) and we ordered so much. Food: Braised Short Rib Marsala - The meat melts in your mouth. There's no way to describe how tender is and how easy it is to pull a piece away with your fork one handed. The polenta and mushrooms the ribs sit on have a super inviting taste. My wife doesn't like truffle sauces and that be the only thing I would switch out. Other than that the vegetables were still crispy but easy to chew. Perfect dish all around. Wild Shrimp Scampi is a must order for me. The shrimps are jumbo sized with a mix of flavors that's been improved since a few months ago. It's no longer swimming in grease and a joy to eat with the generous slices of toasted garlic bread. Burrata - Sweet vinaigrette, large chunks of fresh ripped tomatoes, crunchy toast and arugula is a 100% must order. The burrata cheese melts in your mouth. Ambiance - very lively and celebratory loud, this place is perfect for a fun date, a family gathering or even just to feel energize and enjoy an amazing atmosphere Service - Service at over the years have had hits and misses but the last 3 visits have been straight up amazing. Our latest server was with James again which was the server that first waited on us and made us feel welcome many years before pandemic years. He hasn't changed a bit and remains charismatic giving benchmark setting service. This was my mom's first visit and he really impressed her that she is now ok with us traveling 25 miles to eat here again lol. Managers and the host Friday night "Treya" not sure on spelling was awesome taking care of us. It's been a joy to see the menu improve by so much and all around service being so good again. Previous visits, Gunner and Wyatt (welcome back) are at the top of my short lists in best of the best in service. The staff here is why I spent 80% of my north Italia visits here. The other 20% at the Irvine location. Have yet to try the Torrance one. I remember many years ago a manager I believe "Lisa" turned us into regulars here forever. Looking forward to my next visit! A group near us was on speakerphone/FaceTime at full volume for over 20 minutes, completely disrupting the atmosphere for everyone around them. We politely brought it to the attention of our server, who informed management. Instead of handling the situation professionally, the manager, Romo, came over and argued with my husband. What made it even worse was Romo's response that this is a "public open space" and people are apparently entitled to be on speakerphone as loud as they want, regardless of how disruptive it is to other paying customers. Since when did restaurants become acceptable places for people to blast FaceTime calls across the bar while everyone else is trying to enjoy their evening? If management truly believes basic courtesy and restaurant etiquette no longer matter, then that says everything about the standards here. The lack of professionalism, accountability, and respect for other customers completely ruined the experience. We won't be returning. For clarification since management repeatedly called this a "public space" that is inaccurate. This is a privately owned business open to the public, not a public park or sidewalk. Management absolutely has the right to address disruptive behavior, including customers blasting speakerphone or FaceTime calls that disturb other paying guests. The issue was never that they "couldn't" do anything?! it's that they chose not to.
