Came during dineLA so some people in our group opted for that menu - was a great way to sample their most popular dishes. I opted for the Meiji Soymilk Miso Ramen - such a unique take on ramen I had to try it. The broth was so creamy and could not tell dairy was not used. The blistered green beans were so flavorful and crispy as well. Everything was delicious and came out super hot. Came for a birthday celebration and all the staff signed a birthday card which was very sweet - a fun personalized touch that I haven't seen at other restaurants. We waited 20 minutes for a glass of water and our cocktails were watered down... they sat too long before they were served... We waited for plates, silverware, and delayed service continued throughout brunch. I actually had to turn around to a set table behind us and get plates and silverware. I was excited about the menu only to be let down Food was average at best- We ordered- Taiwanese Crepe- 0 - this was delivered with what we were told a thick soy sauce. It was laughable. A heavy crêpe with cheese, egg, and a chunk of bacon, hoisin sauce mixed with some soy sauce. This was a joke. Scallop roll-0 Dragon roll - 8 A dozen oysters- teeny tiny & tasteless! Pork belly eggs Benedict- Kudos for the toasted airy bread Pork Belly was dry, This was part was really odd. One of the poached eggs was hard and the other was perfectly done with a runny yoke. I visited this restaurant with some family for my birthday lunch on a Sunday and my experience here was pretty solid. To share, we had the following dishes: - Hokkaido Milk Bread: Crispy and fluffy. A good appetizer. I also liked the fish roe butter it came with. Kind of overhyped though. - Japanese Pancake: Pretty different from the souffle-like Japanese pancakes I've had, but this was still pretty good. The texture was chiffron-like and it was light and fluffy. Definitely less heavy than the traditional American pancake. The salted maple syrup and tart blueberries were nice layers that complimented the not too sweet pancake. - Pork Belly Eggs Benedict: What I liked the most was the crumpet-like english muffin used for this dish. It's very different from a traditional english muffin, but I liked the soft and fluffy texture of it that soaked up the hollandaise sauce which was pretty good. However, the pork belly portion was too small and was masked by the sauce and muffin, so I couldn't really taste it. - Nashville Spiced Hot Chicken Karaage: Solid karaage with moist a moist chicken interior and crispy exterior. The seasoning was good and unique and so was the creamy dipping sauce. - Fried Rice For Breakfast: Solid fried rice and I could tell they used day old rice which is optimal. The ginger flavor is pretty prominent which I liked. - Ube Ice Cream Birthday Dessert: Got this for free for my birthday. This is definitely FIlipino approved. The ice cream had a good Ube flavor and was super creamy. I also liked the crunchy bits on the bottom which added texture. The interior of the restaurant was clean and felt cozy. I made a reservation before on the OpenTable app which I recommend during peak times. The service was mixed. Our server was super nice, but she and other servers were hard to flag down. Since my parking time was running out, I had to walk to the host table to pay. She even forgot my uncle's coke.  Parking in the area can be tough. Came here the other weekend to meet some friends for brunch, had a reservation so we were able to get seated right away. Nice location close to the beach, plus plenty of things to do in the area. Started off with drinks, as one does with brunch. The best Mai Tai on the Island was an interesting take on a Mai Tai with a little mango added. Could have had a little more as it was hard to discern at times but still a tasty cocktail. Can't remember what the others ordered to drink, so my apologies, but they were also good. For food, we started with the Lobstah roll which was really nice, a good shift if lobster in each bite and crumbles of salt and vinegar chips on top for some crunch. Just something you wouldn't expect to see on the same plate but it worked. For entrees, we tried the egg crepe, breakfast sandwich and surfing that was like a dry ramen. The crepe was much different than your normal crepe, almost feeling like a quesadilla burrito combo, but was really good. The ramen, without the broth, was also very interesting and very good as well. The winner was the breakfast sandwich. A lot going on in it, and I'm typically not a sausage fan, but this was really tasty, no complaints from anyone at the table. First time here since we were drawn to their Dine in LA menu--kind of nice that the entire table doesn't have to participate, so we got to enjoy both the menu offerings and à la carte items. Everything we ordered was tasty, but the standouts were definitely the tuna handroll (fish is so fresh), milk buns (the sauce!), Caesar salad (the use of sesame is novel), tonkatsu (light and not greasy filling), ramen (taste authentic) and the steak (so tender!). The second I walk in I'm immediately calm and relaxed in this space any time of day, even the bathroom is cute! Spirits are top shelf and signature cocktails are delicious but some are seasonal, ask the servers for recs. Not many late night HH's in the South Bay, this is THE spot! After 9 pm head to the bar top for their special menu with offerings of rolls, skewers, ramen, and other small bites! Their fish and meats always are packed with flavor and melt in your mouth. Their food and service is excellent overall, but their brunch menu is so unique you must try it! The food here is exceptional. It's a casual atmosphere, but super lovely decor. Staff is exceptional so attentive and warm. A large parking structure across the street but we were lucky enough to get parking just around the corner. From start to finish, everything was on point. We had the bottomless mimosas. I had such a great experience at RYLA. You can really taste the quality of ingredients in every dish--it's clear a lot of care goes into the menu. The must-order is the milk bread. It's unbelievably buttery on its own, but the butter spread takes it to another level entirely. Easily one of the highlights of the meal. They do dinner service during the week and have an early service on Saturdays and Sundays (as of /2026). Ryla is a nice restaurant for impressing out of towners or a date. It features a menu with many tasty items, though some far more tasty than others. Service was attentive in the beginning, but fell off a little toward the end of the meal. This is probably because they are quite busy during dinner service and may be understaffed sometimes. Make sure you get a reservation as seats fill up quick. I was able to get squeezed in reserving the day before, but your mileage may vary. I though the yellowtail sashimi was by far the best item we ordered. Presentation and flavor wise it hit all the right notes, a perfect dish. Other rolls were less memorable. I liked the yuzu Hokkaido roll - but I am a particularly avid yuzu lover. Others may find other offerings more appealing. I would say the fried rice is well made - the flavors are good and the technique is definitely there - but it is still just fried rice. The noodles I had were also nice, but had an obscene amount of butter. It was another similar case with the matcha tiramisu. Well made technique wise, but just a little too sweet for my taste, covering up the flavor of the matcha a little bit with sickly sweetness. If I were to make any recommendation, I would say to stick with the sushi. Overall, a fantastic restaurant, but not for those on a budget. Yellowtail Hiramasa Sashimi $29.50 - Refreshing but had too much onion on top of it in my opinion. Overall the dish was good but very salty. Spicy Pork and Shrimp Noodles $25.00 - If you like numbing spice (like I do) you'll certainly enjoy this dish. I was disappointed however that the shrimps were not whole and we're just pieces, same with the bok choy. The menu makes it seem like you'll be getting while pieces of vegetables and shrimp but they cut it to thirds or smaller. Yellowtail Collar $17.00 - Lots of bone but other than it was very tender and yummy. Service/Ambiance - Service was prompt but not necessarily friendly. They come in to check on you often but once you reach past an hour they might become passive aggressive like one snooty gentleman who was dressed in black. He came to check on us twice and on the second time I let him know we were still working on the food, at that moment he blatantly checked his watch and made a disapproving face. My first visit to Ryla was the evening before Thanksgiving. Typically you may not receive great service or food for the holiday. My Mom, adult son and I went to celebrate the holiday. Salmon avocado roll: it was good but I think we were so slap happy over the other two appetizers, this was mild. Ribeye steak: my son had this and it was also extremely tender and full of yumminess!!! Black truffle fried rice with Chinese sausage: my Dad was Chinese so I grew up eating this sausage. It can be overpowering and salty. However, the flavors were so well balanced in this dish! We were glad the server suggested my son order this with the steak. Black cod: Mom and I each had this. Ryla is a decent Japanese-adjacent restaurant, but you definitely pay more for the mood lighting and the fake plants on the wall. We ordered from the weekend brunch menu and started with a few appetizers. The Lobstah roll has a mildly funny name and also a mild flavor. But $32 for eight small pieces is not a mild price. I preferred both the crunchy chicken kaarage and the tuna poke tostada to it. This was probably the most shareable tostada I've had, and the fish was impressive. For mains, I think the tonkatsu sando is your best bet. It comes with some inventive taro chips too. Ultimately, their strength is in variety: you can have eggs Benedict if you want brunch, you can have yuzu shio ramen if you want to stick with the Japanese theme. It was good but I wish the truffle flavor is a bit more prominent (considered the high price) Ribeye Steak - the steak was definitely the high light I of the meal! So juicy and tender - you can tell it is a high quality piece of steak! Love the side of sweet potato! We wanted to try the lamb chop and the matcha tiramisu, but both sold T-T! The service was friendly, as our server was so nice and attentive! There was a little wait even with the reservation, but it wasn't too bad! We got seat at the patio outside, so it was cool seeing people walking pass the restaurant. Inside is really nice and fancy with dim lights and Japanese inspired decors! Ryla is a coastal Californian Asian fusion eatery with a unique menu and a gorgeous dining environment. This spot is located just minutes away from the Hermosa Beach Pier. For parking, there is a parking garage across the street or metered street parking around the neighborhood. Reservations are highly recommended as spots do tend to book up fast. Wifey and I had a dinner reservation for 8pm and were seated right away. Inside, they have a spacious setup with a dimly lit and aesthetic interior. For their menu, they have a solid selection of different appetizers, entrees, sushi roll, and ramen dishes to choose from. We ended up getting spread consisting of the Hokkaido Milk Bread, Corn Fritters, Korean Style Spare Ribs, Dragon Roll, Pork Tonkatsu, and the Ribeye Steak. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience and everything tasted delicious. All of the staff here are very friendly and accommodating. Ryla has been on my list for years, and finally went after deciding to pair a beach day with some good food for our anniversary. Reservations were easy to make, and We showed up on a Saturday for lunch with flip flops and sandals, and tote bags with stuff for the beach. Inside multiple tables nicely decorated (love the bird wallpaper!), with what looked like a section that could be converted into a private room if needed. Received amazing service from Kim! We had a long lunch and we're never disturbed, and she gave us some NA white wine (?) that was sweet and tasty to celebrate our anniversary. Great services bumps this place up to 5 stars! We ordered off the Easter brunch menu, which essentially came out to free drinks -- iced matcha was perfectly sweetened and balanced the matcha flavor. Between the two of us we shared (and were stuffed): -prime rib donburi- the meat was extremely tender, but I dont like horseradish so the horseradish sauce on the side was a no go for me. Without the sauce, the dish tasted a bit bland, wished I'd asked for some furikake or something. Would not order if you dont like horseradish. -Japanese curry pie - basically a curry pan but pot pie size. Curry beef was so good, hard to go wrong with Japanese curry -Japanese pancake - not your typical souffle pancakes, these were described as being more cake-like which i thought I'd like more, but it ended up a tad drier than I would've liked, definitely need a lot of the sauce to make it moist. - carrot cake - perfect sweetness, comes with a small scoop of Thai tea ice cream that paired nicely Parking sucks, we walked quite a ways from where the free street parking was.
