Thought I had been to just about all the Sushi spots in and around the area I live in. I thought wrong. Somehow, until last week, I hadn't made it to Sora Sushi. Will start with parking. Lots of it. And free too. In a busy plaza but pulled into the lot and right into a space. Saw several others and was prime dinner time. However, it was also midweek. Not sure how it is on a weekend. Walked in and was offered any seat in the house. Grabbed me a booth. There are tables and seats at the bar as well. No outdoor seating. Large groups would probably need to be separated. Place isn't huge the seating doesn't appear to be able to be moved around to accommodate huge parties. Call ahead and ask though. I may be wrong. Service was excellent. Friendly though I probably came across as "leave me alone to eat". I was starving as I hadn't eaten much last week as I was recovering from being sick with no appetite. Best way to drop weight. Not close to my fighting weight. Would need to be sick another few weeks. Anyway - I warmed up after eating and had a few brief interactions with their team. Food was great! Grabbed Cucumbers and Seaweed. And a Sashimi Combo. Thought the touch of having dry ice give off steam was pretty cool. It was a quick, simple delicious meal. I finally got around to checking out Sora Sushi. They've been here for about 6 months and they are conveniently located in the neighborhood, so the was a bit overdue. We ordered 2 omakase and a Black Dragon Roll. It was all good. The omakase wasn't the best that we've had in the S.Bay but it was tasty. The downside with the omakase was that the nigiri pieces were not very uniform in size. The presentation with the dry ice was pretty for sure, but I'm more about the cuts and taste. Again, still very good, just not in my top 3. The roll on the other hand, and I'm not as much a roll guy, but it was excellent, actually probably in my top 3 in the S.Bay for rolls! I dropped my car off at Pacific Auto Cleaning and needed lunch. I walked up to the shopping plaza and recalled there was a sushi place I have never tried but a light lunch sounded ideal and I had an hour to kill so I walked into Sora Sushi! There was a sweet gal standing at the door with a smile on her face. I later learned that was the wife and I think this is a family business!! She warmly greeted me and gave me seating options. I opted to sit at the bar The missus gave me a lunch menu and I looked at their standard menu too. Before I continue, I have to say I am a vegetarian that detests seaweed and mushrooms. I always opt for soy paper on my vegetarian roles. I asked the missus if they offered soy paper as an alternative and she was so sweet and said they do. Upon looking at their menu, I was so thrilled to see they had a Vegan Rolls section and agedashi tofu. I love a plain lightly fried tofu and white rice. The rice was beautifully cooked, tofu perfect (plain, no bonito/seaweed etc.). I then ordered the vegan roll with soy paper and added cream cheese (don't judge me!). All those items came out and tasted absolutely delicious. I think I found a new sushi spot that's close to home and the chef and wife (who was also cooking) were so kind and made some beautiful rolls! OMG, I love all forms of sushi and sashimi but rarely get rolls because I feel like most places don't respect the roll and just treat it like a mash up of different things. Well, was I in for a pleasant surprise when I met my friend (a fellow local) at Sora Sushi. From the friendly and attentive service ( thank you Christina - a born and bred H beach native) to the most delectable rolls crafted by the sushi chef who took his training with a legit master sushi chef. Seriously, you can taste the deliberateness of each ingredient wrapped together with so much care. And the presentation most definitely reflects a level of respect that is not found elsewhere. We were delighted that Judy ( from Tsingtao - yes the town associated with the famous Chinese beer) stepped out of the kitchen to check in on us. This place has the most lovely unpretentious local hangout/family welcome feel with epic food at pre-pandemic respectful prices that make dining here regularly ( which is my full intention) more than possible. Do yourself and your family and friends a big favor and get yourself to Sora soon and my suggestion is not to judge the restaurant by the shopping center ( the old Big Lot center at the corner of Aviation and Prospect) it is in because you will regret not coming in! What a welcome addition to the neighborhood! After reading several positive reviews and a write-up in our local newspaper, I decided to give Sora Sushi a try--and I'm so glad I did! We arrived around 5:30 PM on a Saturday and had our pick of seats. We chose the sushi bar, which turned out to be a great decision. Watching the chefs in action is always a treat, and we had the pleasure of meeting Lucas, the owner, and Asriel, the sushi chef, along with the rest of the team. One of the first things I noticed: everyone here is incredibly friendly. There's an easy warmth and genuine hospitality that sets Sora apart--so refreshing and appreciated! The sushi itself? Fantastic. Fresh, flavorful, beautifully presented--just really well-executed across the board. But the surprise standout was something not even on the menu: as I saw a plate of fried rice leave the kitchen (made by Lucas's sister, a talented Chinese food chef), they kindly offered me a bite. Wow. It was absolutely delicious. Honestly, they should add it to the menu--I'd order it in a heartbeat. Lucas also mentioned that he's Chinese, which got me thinking: why not incorporate a few Chinese entrees into the menu alongside the sushi? If that fried rice was any indication, there's some serious untapped potential there. Now, a quick note--the space itself isn't fancy. It feels a little worn and slightly disheveled, but honestly? The food and the people more than make up for it. By 6 PM, the place was packed and the takeout orders were flying--clearly the word is getting out. I truly hope Sora Sushi is a success. A mere $50 for the Omakase Nigiri, 11 pieces of chef's choice and a dab of dessert if you're dining in. We popped in here on the late side Saturday night for a quick sushi dinner. It's very clean, and the staff very friendly -- we were able to chat with the chef/owner a bit as well. This is definitely a must try. All of the fish is sourced from different places to ensure freshness and quality, and yes, all of our sushi was very fresh. We randomly tried Sora last night and it was beyond my expectations! It honestly reminded me of some of the little hole in the wall sushi places I visited in Japan. The staff was so welcoming and friendly. We sat at the bar and were immediately brought drinks. We ordered a bunch of the special rolls and I could NOT believe how fresh everything was. The Hamachi sashimi with truffle oil was outrageous. Every rolls was so delicious. The chefs were friendly and helpful and made great suggestions. We even ended up doing shots with them. They have one called the Sora shot and it's like a same bomb but you drop Yuzu liquor in the beer. Such a random and fun experience. I hope they get a lot of business because they need to stick around! We had 5 or 6 rolls (and we're soooo full) 3 hot sakes and bought the shots for the whole staff (6) and our bill was $200 including a 20% tip. I thought that was pretty good. read more

We had delivery service from Foodja for a work meeting. We ordered the combos and some sushi. Everything was labeled, packed and organized well. We didn't have to open each box to try and figure out what was inside. The teri beef is good, California roll was fresh, fried gyoza was ok (not a fan of fried but everyone else loved it). We ordered high five, sunset, crunch rolls, rainbow and the 3 fish crunch roll type sushi. Sora Sushi did not disappoint. The place looks kinda the same to the last place, but Music is nice and food is delicious, i can officially say this might be a turn around for this spot, new sushi restaurant in place of the old crappy one. We live nearby, and we used to come to this place under the old ownership. So we were excited to come try it out as Sora Sushi. We had a great time! The waitresses were super friendly and provided great service. We got miso soup and some rolls. The miso soup was very good, as were most of our rolls. I got the Spicy Sexy Girl roll. The fried onions on top were only lightly fried; they still had a bit of a soft onion texture, as opposed to the hard crispy texture I was expecting. At first I was sad about that, but as I ate more of it, I actually came to enjoy it. It ended up being a very pleasant taste and texture going with the actual roll. Our friend got the Honey Roll, and she liked it. My wife and I split a Shrimp Tempura Roll, which was a nice extra simple few bites to rack onto our main rolls, since we were hungry (we usually only get one roll each). Lastly, my wife got the Hermosa Beach Roll, which we were pretty excited about since I love coconut, but it ended up being my least favorite roll. The "searing" was really just using a butane torch over it right before serving, so the flakes just tasted burnt and a bit like butane. But all the rolls were served up beautifully, and we enjoyed all except that last one. We will definitely be coming back to try more! read more

Have another adjacent room with lots more seating. Came in around 630p and got two seats at the bar. Everyone very welcoming and got our drinks order quickly. We get a call at 10:39 pm with a person calling to tell us we didn't pay. We absolutely did. She wanted us to text her a receipt (which of course we threw away with our finished food). Very weird, felt very unprofessional. Got weird vibes. Then proceeded to get spammed call from the restaurant.
