Having been to so many Sugarfish locations, I realized I have not placed a review for each location, especially this Manhattan beach location which we have been coming to more frequently. We take advantage of the Sugarfish Birthday club, so pretty much every visit we have is to celebrate someone's birthday. If you know SF, their menu doesn't change and what we order usually stays the same as well. Service by Jeffery was excellent as he remembered us to the point of giving us extra ginger and wasabi. Food always on par.

TRUST ME, this place is delicious! After trying KazuNori, I had to go to Sugarfish. The place has outstanding sushi. Everything was so fresh and tasty. I mention this and I'm not a really big fan of Japanese food. I ordered the Trust Me for lunch. It was the perfect amount of food, especially since I knew I wanted Salt and Straw Ice Cream down the street. Metered parking so make sure to keep track of your time. You will probably spend at least 1 hour if not 1.5 hours. The restroom toilet was clogged and did not flush. I notified someone and hopefully they will fix it.

I've been a fan of the Pasadena location for many years, and now that I've moved to this area, I'm glad there's also a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. My go-to order is always the Trust Me, which is plenty of food. It starts with edamame, tuna sashimi, and a variety of sushi, plus a blue crab hand roll. The portions may look small at first, but the dishes keep coming and I'm always stuffed by the end. My husband likes to order some of his favorites separately, such as the Nozawa-style sweet shrimp, scallops, albacore, tuna, and a couple of hand rolls. Like their other locations, they only seat your party once everyone has arrived, and tax and gratuity are already included in the final price. I prefer the sauce that comes with tuna sashimi over soy sauce. So my hack is to not finish that dish, and the waiter won't take away my sauce plate. We visited on a Tuesday weeknight and it was still quite busy. Parking in the area is mostly metered street parking.

It's always so much fun to visit sugar fish! Love the selection and the price is so reasonable! I haven't been to this sugar fish before. Wait staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is very warm, modern, and inviting. I had the Nozawa trust me and added a lobster hand roll at the end. Everything was amazing. The lobster hand roll was just okay because the texture was shredded like crab. I was expecting chunks of lobster meat .

WOWZA! I was very skeptical about the raw fish and the whole experience but I gave it a go. I'm the kinda girl that would only go for baked salmon rolls and the sushi but I was absolutely blown away in every way, service, experience and FLAVOR. I came in with an open mind and every plate they served I was mind blown in the flavor, the quality & just how perfect each bite was that had me coming for more. I am now a BIG fan and can't wait to be back. We came early and were able to grab a table for 4 so easy, while dinning it got very full and there was a big waiting. There are no reservations so you come a wait which is fair, there is a bar area and a few tables but that's what makes it a great experience and intimate.

This is our all time favorite sushi place. We come for all celebrations. The atmosphere is great. Lively but cozy and clean. The staff is always great. Wait time is long but hey, that's what happens when the food is amazing! Dress in layers. It's chilly. And they don't take tap (Apple Pay). You're gonna love it if you love sushi.

always heard about sugarfish but have been skeptical- i think people come for the nice atmosphere but the sushi itself is nothing special. got the "trust me" set (36$), and service was fast but not in a great way. our server was nice but the food kept getting ran out before we even finished our previous plate, it felt very rushed. the sushi rice was also unexpectedly warm, i've never had rice that warm, its normally lukewarm.

Yeah it's safe to say I'm obsessed. This place came highly recommended by so many Californians that I made it my very first stop in town as soon as I arrived. Dare I say it was part of the reason I booked my flight in the first place? I was greeted by the amazing Eric and was given the run down of the "Trust Me" -- absolutely recommend getting this your first time to try out the best of what Sugarfish offers. I was left speechless with the quality of the fish, the texture of the rice, and the uniqueness of the sauces. Eric made my first experience at this legendary spot super memorable. I enjoyed sitting at the bar THREE times in one week, as I literally couldn't have enough. I even checked out their sister restaurant Kazunori and UOVO while in town. Highly impressed by the service, food and atmosphere at all of their establishments. Thank you also to Vilma who was a fantastic server as well. Super personable and had great recommendations. She put me on to Albacore Belly -- truly fantastic. Try it if you go!!

Finally made my way to this location! I had previously only been to the DTLA location, so I was excited that they opened a Sugarfish in Manhattan Beach. The outer facade is a bit unassuming, but there is a small sign at the top of the restaurant. It's a bit noisy inside. There aren't any windows inside, and it's kind of a small space, so the sound really carries. Just an FYI in case you're looking for a quieter dining experience. We ordered the classic "Trust Me." It comes with edamame, tuna sashimi, albacore sushi (2pc), salmon sushi (2pc), toro hand roll, Japanese yellowtail sushi (1pc), hirame sushi (1pc), and a blue and dungeness crab hand roll. The tuna sashimi comes in the BEST ponzu sauce, super refreshing! I also always look forward to ending with the crab hand roll. So good!

Came here as soon as they opened this morning at 11:30. They don't take reservations so we tried to beat the lunch crowd. Restaurant filled up quickly so i suggest people to come early to avoid the wait. Everything was fresh, i even liked the rice and seaweed that came with each piece of the sushi roll. Blue crab hand roll was my favorite. My friends also enjoyed their raw fish as well. Very reasonable price considering the location of this restaurant. We will be back again for another lunch gathering soon

First time at Sugarfish. It lived up to the hype for myself, wife & daughter. Casual atmosphere. Wait staff is helpfull in explaining menu & each item as it comes out even for novices, so don't be intimidated. All of the courses were fresh, well prepared, & flavorful. Standouts for us were the salmon, chutoro & hirami sushi. Both hand rolls were excellent. Would def return.

I have been wanting to try Sugarfish for so long and I'm so glad I finally did! Everything was so fresh and yummy. We were originally going to get the box and eat it on the beach, but I'm glad we decided to dine in because each dish was freshly made after every course and served right away as opposed to having them all sit in a box for 20-30 minutes while you eat. The fish was soft, clean and not fishy. The tuna sashimi and albacore were my favorite! I got the trust me set but it wasn't very filling. Next time, I'll get the Nozawa trust me set. The servers were very attentive and polite. The restaurant was clean and modern. A small touch I liked was that they had different types of soaps in the restroom. Parking here on the weekends in the summer is tough. There are metered parkings lots & metered street parking close by. It may take some time to find parking.

Ask the Community - SUGARFISH | Manhattan Beach

Do you still have outdoor dining for lunch or dinner?

Yes, just make sure to reserve. Gets busy quick for lunch, can’t imagine dinner

I know someone asked this already 7mo ago, but are dogs still allowed in the outdoor patio seating area? If so, are they allowed during both lunch and dinner time reservations? Thought to ask since it could change between lunch and dinner time. Ty!

    Is this location pet friendly?

Yes, the outdoor patio is pet friendly.

How long is pick up time?

Once you order online, the pickup time will be provided. And it's very important to arrive at the exact pick up time provided. The sushi is very fresh and shouldn't be sitting out for a long time. At your arrival, they will also tell you the sushi… Read more

What does the Don't think. Just eat. Trust me. Include?

From what I recall, it's the Chef's choice (Omakase) which will vary on the day with which fish is available.

How much is parking at this location?

It's at the beach so it's all metered. I think it's $2 per hour. You can use a cc for the meters and I am pretty sure they are 2 hours at a time until 9pm. Then it's free

If someone doesn't like Japonica, then they must have defective taste buds!…read more Japonica of El Segundo is absolutely one of the top sushi restaurants in all of the South Bay of Los Angeles. They make my Friday night fish dinner a step in the food-heaven direction. The staff is out of this world, with a lovely manager, attentive servers, and talented chefs. The spicy edamame is a perfect starter if you'd like your plain edamame to have a flavor kick. The portion is big, making it plenty enough for a group of four to enjoy together. Unless you're a glutton like I am and don't feel like sharing, haha. The bluefin carpaccio practically melts in your mouth. The cut of the bluefin is absolutely just what your stomach is craving. Soft, flavorful, and satisfying to say the least. The white lightning is a saucy garlic surprise. The ever so slight sear on the albacore makes this roll have a dance party on your tongue. The garlic butter that the roll sits in has such a great taste that I just want to drink it down. Japonica El Segundo is placed in a small "strip mall" type of location, with on site parking being limited. There are several disabled designated parking spots right in front of the restaurant. Also, there is plenty of parking up & down Main Street, allowing for closeness within walking distance. There are no stairs/steps needed to enter the restaurant and the televisions do have closed-captions. The noise level is mid, making it easy to have comfortable conversations with your party without having to shout. I would absolutely recommend taking a stroll down Main Street after your meal, giving yourself some time to digest, stretch, and maybe get a scoop of ice cream from one of the local spots.

And the tonkatsu? Legit one of the best I've had--perfectly fried with that golden, crisp exterior that somehow stays light, not greasy, and gives way to juicy, tender pork. So many combinations, and everything comes out like a full spread. My current go-to is the steak gozen--basically the "why choose?" option. You get miso soup, salad, tonkatsu, tempura, soba... it just keeps coming. It's generous without feeling overdone, and somehow everything still tastes dialed in. I used to be loyal to the sukiyaki gozen (RIP, still not over it), but the steak set has filled that void nicely. Bottom line: delicious, satisfying, and surprisingly good value for how much you get.
