My favorite spot in Manhattan Beach to pick up and go. This isn't a place to dine in, but they do a phenomenal job of efficiently packing orders. There's hand rolls, cut rolls, speciality rolls, nigiri, sashimi, appies and more. The garlic dumplings are one of my faves. There's truly something for everyone who enjoys Japanese food. Super easy to pull up, park, grab your food, and leave. Ordering via their website is easiest and you won't need to pay upon arrival. I finally had the chance to stop by this location since it's pretty close to my work and it's a casual, takeout only sushi place. I was very hungry so I ordered the 8 piece assorted nigiri set, and the tuna and salmon maki with added avocados. The 8 piece nigiri assortment comes with salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore. The salmon nigiri was good, but every other piece tasted pretty standard. I've had other casual, takeout sushi restaurants around the area and they have a wider variety of fish and are cheaper. The 8 piece special comes around $18.50 for 8 pieces of fish. The salmon and tuna rolls were also pretty standard, a little more on the expensive side as well, but they were stuffed generously with fish and avocado. Overall, I'd say my experience at Yanagi was pretty standard. It's moderately filling but expensive. It's good if you're in the area and want sushi, I found it to be ok. read more

Sushi is good not great, and for these prices I'm going to need them to elevate their game to get up to a 4 star. It's a hard 3.5 but closer to a 3 than to a 4 at present. I got the Spicy Rainbow and the Nigiri sampler. My issue was with the sashimi pieces. Fish was totally flavorless across the board, from tuna to salmon to yellowtail. Better than grocery store quality but that same blandless you find at the gas station. I'm not sure what the deal was, but it made both items disappointing. The Spicy Tuna was good but that's cheating. You shouldn't need to sauce up the fish to make a good roll. Willing to give another shot but I think spade is a spade here. read more

We had ordered delivery, and were impressed at the quality and freshness. I have become a sucker for Dumplings with Spicy Garlic Sauce, and these did not disappoint. It was light and the filling was a great consistency without being overly mixed (like when proteins start to get "gummy" and you end up with a very dense nugget of filling). It wasn't really spicy at all. The Stinky Garlic Roll was okay. I was expecting more garlic based on the item title, but the garlic paste they put on top was only on 3 of the pieces (2 of which were right in the front on the picture), so it wasn't consistent nor "stinky". The Garlic Tuna Tataki Special was great! Solid pieces of fish, barely seared, good texture. The crunchy garlic bits on top weren't overbearing. A Philadelphia Roll is always a standard just to get to that last level of fullness. The salmon was perfectly fatty and the cream cheese was the perfect amount to not overwhelm the balance of the roll. We tried Yanagi this past Monday evening and had a very pleasant experience. The lady taking our order was very sweet and patient with us. The food was ready in the quoted time and the cost seemed fair for the amount of food we ordered. Quick snapshot: everything was very fresh and well packaged/presented for take out. The fish cut is excellent and nearly melts in your mouth. Cut rolls and sashimi are amazing. I would not put the sauce on your sashimi as I didn't feel it paired well but was outstanding on its own. We ordered: Shrimp Tempura- super fresh with a nice crisp. Not oily at all. 10/10 Spicy Tuna Roll Hand-roll - the tuna was surprisingly fresh with amazing flavor -10/10 Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna- loved this 10/10 Chicken Teriyaki Bowls - very good. They offer white or dark meat options which I really appreciated. 9/10 Albacore with crispy onion- loved this dish until I put the sauce on it. Stand-alone 10/10 with sauce 2/10 Yellow tail jalapeño- without the sauce amazing 10/10 with the sauce 3/10 Chicken Udon- noodles had a great flavor. I usually order from the Redondo Beach Yanagi but my mom wanted a dish from Joey's across the street and so this location was the more convenient. I won't bury the punchline. Next time I'll just go out of my way. First off, man they're rude and I only had an interaction of a few seconds. Impressive. Without making eye contact the guy dropped my order on the card table and walked off. Thank you? And now the most important part of any review of a restaurant: The Food. The tempura was soggy and the spicy tuna was just ok... Nothing to write home about, though definitely something to write yelp about. ;) And everything had a very weird odor. Because I order from the Redondo location every couple of weeks, I can say that everything about this meal was uncharacteristic of how I have experienced Yanagi before this. We just love Yanagi Kitchen. It is located in a little strip mall right on Sepulveda Blvd. There is plenty of free parking. the exterior is cute and inside is clean and very nice. We love the sushi there. The prices are very reasonable and all of their sushi is great. My favorite is their spicy tuna roll. They also have bowls that are super yummy and their tempura can't be beat. My favorite is their shrimp tempura. It is so good and always cooked to perfection. The service is fast and very kind. Soft shell crabs? Hamachi collar? SOLD. I could have ordered both online for pick up but wanted to take advantage of the 20% Yelp check-in discount, so I made the drive. Lucked out and got to park right up front. No customers so I figure there was no wait. I went ahead and ordered both things, claimed my 20% and sat down patiently. The menu clearly stated a wait for the collar as it takes time for prep. I didn't mind - I had time. And then all these online (probably phoned in) pick up orders. It wasn't lunchtime peak hours yet and a few people had already come through to pick up their stuff. I can only imagine how this place is like during the lunch rush! The wait wasn't as long as I anticipated - I was walking out in no time. Got back to where I needed to be and was eager to open this beautifully packaged grub! SOFT SHELLED CRABS TEMPURA: Delicious. PERFECT. It is exactly how I like it. Tempura batter was thin but crisp and flavor were on point. Tempura sauce went with it perfectly. HAMACHI KAMA PLATE: Came with rice and salad. It tasted more grilled than baked but I didn't care. Like the crabs, this was also delicious. My first impression was that it was a bit under seasoned then realized this probably wasn't seasoned at all - they prepped it as is to present the fish's basic flavor. It was good as is, but on a personal preference, I added just a tad bit salt. REALLY GOOD. FOOD: 5. There was nothing wrong with either dish I got. SERVICE: 3.5. Not a lot of interaction between the cashier and me. VALUE: 5. $9 for the soft-shell crab tempura, $8.50 for the Hamachi PLUS the 20% discount?! It's a steal.
