To me, it doesn't deserve the rating it has, it should be higher. What is great about this place are the reasonably priced lunch specials, and you can also get 1/2 rolls during lunch. It isn't the mighty quality that's at other places, but it's reasonable. I believe it's Korean owned, so it's not a traditional Sushi experience. Still, overall, it's good. So, I have a new rating system......I will be write what I feel honestly about an establishment. Sushi is still tasty and fresh. Beers are cold and service from chefs and FOH is very friendly. Restaurant is busy with many regulars and families, that's always a good sign. I tried the aloha roll for the first time and it was very delicious. Nigiri is always solid here and yellowtail scallion cut roll was very fresh and made well. Have been coming here for years. Always a good time. Food is great, ambiance is even better! We've tried almost everything on the menu. We typically sit at the bar and service is awesome. The chefs will give a sample of something off the menu on the house, very generous on their part. Always welcomed in with smiles from all the staff. Recently discovered gem! Food: Fish to rice ratio was perfect! They put a fat, thick layer of fish, which you don't get at most restaurants, so this was great! Price was fair for the quality and quantity. (If you're looking for a good deal, go during lunch hours and get their lunch deal meal!). Miso soup was surprisingly good as well! I hate it when I go to a Japanese restaurant and the miso soup is watered down and lukewarm, but this place had their miso soup piping hot and flavourful! I've had worse but 1 roll was completely not edible. Both of the rolls rice was a little hard - seemed like there was no sushi rice seasoning and it was falling apart, no stickiness. Luckily the first roll I had with the tuna and sauce was pretty decent. The second was pretty terrible, I couldn't stomach it. The inside had really unfresh fish chopped up, very questionable, a piece of my salmon had a large brown spot on it and I was too worried to eat it. The first roll wasn't bad but again for the price $15.99 per roll I'd expect at least 3.5 star sushi. Sorry but I will not take my chances here again. read more

This place is on the busy PCH at a small mall with a parking lot, and I think it's quite a great little hidden treasure. The interior is rather modest with 8 tables and a sushi bar. Our server was quick, and the food came out at a good pace. I ordered California roll and vegetable roll for my kids, and the harbor combo for myself with 8 pieces of sushi, and a spicy tuna roll. We also got edamame. I was really pleased with the sushi--much better than I expected for the price and location. My kids scarfed down the rolls in no time, too. One note of caution, the spicy tuna was unusually spicy. I'm used to very spicy food, but I did note the roll had more bite than I'm used to. All in all, I found it a great experience. read more

Some pieces were hard. And the rice was flavorless. Good sushi has good tasting rice but it seems like they forgot to add the rice vinegar. And the fish did not taste fresh at all. Still my favorite sushi restaurant anywhere in the South Bay. Have been going there for years and love the staff! We've made it a tradition in our family to celebrate there for a number of years and have never, ever been disappointed. Staff and chefs recognize us and are always happy to see us, as happy as we are to be there. The menu is huge, so every taste will be satisfied. Specialty rolls like their Fire and Sapporo were quite fresh and well-constructed.  Within the Harbor sushi combo, however, the nigiri was a grab-bag dominated by subpar quality maguro, sake, and albacore atop overly packed rice.  The blue crab and california rolls were thankfully far more fresh, yet still heavy-handed with the rice. Steer clear of the broiled hamachi kama...the mild yet present fishy odor upon opening the container was hardly confidence-inspiring. Hold your tongues, sushi snobs! Oki Doki delivers consistent, decent quality, especially at their price-point. Tried a few nigiri combos this time: Harbor Combo if you're hungry. Eight pieces with a choice roll, spicy tuna will work. The chef will choose all the standard sushi, and you have a nice, expected mix of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail, and shrimp. Oki Doki Combo if you're starving. Same sushi, extra pieces. Tokyo Combo if you'd like a little less. The Crunch Roll is a filling option for this one. They also have Tempura if you'd rather have something hot, and you can't go wrong with the rolls. If you have a night where you're looking to just pig out on sushi but don't want to be out several hundred dollars, Oki Doki can probably do it for less than one. read more

ODS has been a hidden gem of the South Bay since my daughter's godmother introduced it to us almost 20 years ago... I have had date nights with my husband, celebrated our birthdays, & just hung out with friends. Simon, the owner, is a sociable guy... & always greets us by name whenever we drop in. Whenever we're in a small group (2 - 4), we usually try to sit by Sushi Chef Chan, & every now & then he would comped us a small plate of tempura/fried albacore. Yum! The filling is fair & sometimes generous that you definitely get the bang for your buck. We like Chan because his rolls are tight, so it doesn't fall apart if we can't eat the roll in 1 bite. From the standard menu, Oishii Roll is almost always ordered; I loved that it's carb free & super refreshing with the cucumber wrap instead of seaweed. Ichiban Roll is a frequent pick because of the packed filling of variety fishes. As far as the specials, they're all pretty yummylicious.... I love the chili heat from Jalapeño Bomb & I really enjoy the texture & flavor of the Crispy Spicy Tuna (this is reminiscent of the crunch from Chinese Sizzling Rice Soup aka 鍋粑湯). The garlic dressing on the Tuna Tataki is soooooo dope that we used the excess sauce to dress the plain rolls like Spicy Tuna Roll. The Fire Roll's spicy sauce is also packs a l'il punch (I say little because I have a high tolerance for chili)... notice a trend in my fav picks? ;-) Service is obviously great since we're regulars. The dining room is on the smaller side for a sushi restaurant & is often packed no matter the time of day -- weekday or weekend. Prices are ridiculously cheap from $4 - $15 (higher prices are for the special rolls). Prices have increased over the years but ODS is still offers competitively priced sushi. Parking is a major problem because there's only a handful of spaces that's shared with 7-Eleven & a pizza joint in the same plaza. NOTE: I haven't been back since the change in ownership/COVID-19 lockdown. But a neighbor picked up an order for us in October 2020 when he was getting takeout for his family. I ordered three rolls from Oki Doki for takeout and as the restaurants name mentions they were just okay. I don't think I'll be coming back in the future. I ordered the Hawaiian Roll, Crunch Dragon Roll, and the Rainbow Roll. The sushi wasn't anything special and I was disappointed in the cuts that were made in the roll, which seemed incomplete and made it difficult to pull a piece from the roll without it braking. I ordered take out through the Yelp app for dinner on the weekend. The timing was right on from the estimate from what Yelp gave me for the order so that was really nice. Nice customer service. We ordered the Oki Doki combo and 3 rolls. It was a little weird that we got 3 separate boxes for the rolls, kinda a bit wasteful for plastic when it could have fit in one box. We got plenty of condiments but the wasabi was this weird green paste from a plastic packet that didn't want dissolve. Personally I feel like good wasabi is just as important as fresh sushi. So it was a hit and miss. The fish in the koi doki combo was great but one of the rolls was a bit fishy, like it end of freshness. It wasn't horrible just a little off. 2/3 rolls just fell apart when we picked them up, like they were rolled too loose and one of the rolls weren't cut through so all the pieces stuck together which also caused them to fall apart. We went after sunset so it wasn't like we went at the end of night. We live about 15 mins from this place and we kept the food in the cabin with us so wouldn't expect the off flavor to develop that fast. I expect this maybe from a cheaper sushi place. The best thing I tried out of that menu was the tempura roll. Ordered the oki doki roll along with the crunch dragon roll. I don't know if it was me or what but the spicy tuna had a weird taste to it. So we removed it from the top of the dragon roll and ate the rest as far as the oki doki roll, we just ate the deep fried crawfish and left the roll. Went there on a Friday at one and there was only three other groups of people. The waiter guy wasn't welcoming at all. He literally came once to ask us if we were ready and we ordered drinks and one roll and told him I needed to look at the menu a little longer. He only came back to drop off the roll and that's when I was able to order the other two items. Asked him for a cup with no ice for my soda and brought me an ice cup. We understand that the current environment makes it difficult to deliver consistently, but when we called to inform them, they insisted that we return the sushi to the restaurant to receive a refund.
