It's a small, unassuming spot on Redondo Beach Pier that appears to be very popular among locals. We visited on 12/23/22 evening-the Friday before Christmas Eve and day and thankfully, had made a reservation prior. I made the reservation the Wednesday before and the only time slot they were able to give us for dinner time was 7pm. When we arrived about 15 minutes earlier than our reservation time, they were still kind enough to seat us, though they stated that they wouldn't be able to take our orders for food until our reservation time which was more than fair. They were still able to take our drink orders though There were numerous space heaters throughout the restaurant which I appreciated. It's small, but clean and bustling We got the crab (1/2 size as it was only two of us), sausage, and numerous other dishes. Everything was great! I liked the crab and felt like the portion relative to the value wasn't bad at all. It's still crab and it's still market price so don't expect a cheap deal, but for what it was, I couldn't complain. Sausage and crispy tuna was amazing. Steak was good. Everything was good. The only thing that was slightly disappointing and lackluster was the nigiri sushi and the yellow tail rolls. I read a a review about this restaurant awhile ago and it's been on my to-do list ever since. Finally made our way to the Redondo Pier (much nicer than I remember) and stopped in for dinner. We scored a window table (arrive early before they are filled) with a great view and ordered a combination of sushi and sashimi. We've been eating sushi/sashimi for 30+ years so we're hard graders. Nasty old food!!!!! i came here 7/14/23 in the night with my friend. we stopped to get soft serve icecream which was supper expensive for that lil ass cone. Anyways we got it, i vanilla and her chocolate. when i got mines it looked odd, chunky almost. i took a bite and to my suprise it tasted like old sour milk!!!!!!! We sat outside in front of a tv that was playing the Dodger game! That was awesome that they were playing it! It can be quite hot during the summer, but you are on the beach, so summer nights are the best. Sushi tastes fresh. My favorites are the Yellowtail and green onion roll, the Dynamite & the Oyster Shooter. These are definitely my ultra favorites. I normally order: Fatty Tuna, yellowtail, inari, salmon, albacore, California roll, and sweet shrimp sushi. They have a large selection of sake and Japanese beer. I normally order the large sake. Restaurant is finally open after 3months break! Everything still tastes wonderful, and staff are amazing! There are many izakaya-style restaurants especially in South Bay, but no place can't beat Oriental Breeze for authentic Japanese menu and service. If those are full, you can find seating in the form of benches and tables further out on the pier. Order = 5/5 Green tea swirl in a cone: 5/5 This is my favorite treat along the pier and it might be one of my favorite green tea soft serves, especially for the price and quantity that they give. The vanilla and green tea go well together. One flavor doesn't overpower the other, if anything the vanilla makes the green tea a bit sweeter and lighter. The green tea itself isn't too strong and is refreshing. The cone is a cake cone but shaped like a waffle cone (if that makes sense). I find that the tip of the cone tends to be prone to leaking after some time, so bring some napkins along and be ready to manage all drips! Overall = 4/5 Location is great for a nice walk whether alone or with company. Price isn't killer and the quality is great. It's one of those simple joys kind of thing where it just makes sense. Hint = get the swirl. Not the solo flavors...the swirl. Make sure to grab napkins too in case your cone leaks. What a surprising gem! Not only is it surprising enough to find an authentic Japanese izakaya on the touristy pier, it's actually not bad! I don't go to this pier often, but I have lived in the South Bay for most of my life and have never heard of this place until coming across it on Yelp recently. Seeing that sunsets are late since summer solstice just passed last week, I was in the mood for a Saturday night dinner with a sunset view. This place fit the bill without being either an overpriced place you pay for the location or a sandy dive. The food was very good with an ample selection of usual izakaya favorites like chicken karaage, kaki fry, octopus, miso sea bass, sushi rolls, teriyaki, and a few noodle selections for the less adventurous. Everything we ordered was prepared nicely, as good as any other Japanese restaurant you would find in Torrance or Gardena. They even had a sake sampler of 4 shots that we enjoyed. Throw in the fact that this has an ocean view without a marked-up price and you've got a winner. The only thing that I didn't like was that part of the restaurant is pretty stuffy and warm so you can smell the cooking. The opened up a window (unobstructed breeze from the ocean) and it crisped the air right up. Just don't know if they can do that all the time depending on temperature and season. read more

Oriental Breeze is a little take-out place on the Redondo Beach Pier. It is kind of hard to find, so just walk around until you see it. It is near other food places and little shops. What a terrible experience! I attempted to have dinner here last night with my BF and a friend. We arrived a little bit before 8pm. We stood outside waiting to be seated for about 10 minutes. We kept peeking inside and it was not busy, there were plenty of tables, but we were told to wait. Finally seated a little after 8. The booth was comfy, but my side had a shit load of electrical plugs in a power strip jutting out into my hip. Safe! We ordered right away. A bottle of wine, a beer, an iced tea, a california roll, mozzarella sticks, some mussels & scallops, grilled chicken & popcorn shrimp. The drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time, but they put lots of ice in the wine, which I did not enjoy. The food took forever! We had to be somewhere at 9, so we kind of started freaking out when we had already been there 30 minutes and they hadn't brought us any of our food. Meanwhile we saw other people being served, finishing their meals, and leaving. My friend commented to the waitress that we were in a hurry and we needed to leave soon, the waitress just walked away. Finally around 8:30 they brought out the cali roll and the mozzarella sticks, and both were nasty. At 8:45 we asked where our food was, and told them we had to be somewhere in 15 minutes. They told us they hadn't started cooking our food yet, but they would start right now. We told them to cancel the whole thing and bring us the bill. Dine50/FALL2016: Day 1 Tan Tan Ramen Noodle The Dine50 Ramen Campaign is back for the 2nd time this year! Of course, I took advantage! So here we go... Oriental Breeze was a participant on the previous campaign. I skipped it back then, mainly because I didn't really want to do the drive, but when it reappeared on the list this time around, I got curious. Parking wasn't a challenge - plenty of them at the garage/structure on a cool Monday night. ($1.50/hour.) Walked in and it was pretty empty. There was a couple sitting at the bar and maybe about 6 people dining at the tables. I was given the option of a table or the bar. Decided to sit at the bar because there were a couple of football games on. Wasn't long before the server gave me the menu. Informed them I was there for the Dine50 campaign. Server had NO idea what I was talking about and referred me to one of the sushi chefs behind the counter. Once we cleared everything up, I went ahead and ordered their promo ramen. Noticed they had deep fried soft shell crabs (I'm a sucker for this) so I went ahead and got that as well. The crabs were made to order - although I was at the other end of the bar, I literally saw this get made. Love that. Didn't take long before it got to my table. It's been awhile since I had it, so I didn't care that it was piping hot. My first bite wasn't as impressive as I was hoping it would be. The batter was pretty thin - which is to my liking - but there was a strong hint of ginger flavor to it. Needless to say, it overpowered everything. The crabs also lacked that certain taste, that hint of sweetness, which pretty much convinced me it's not as fresh as it should be. Ponzu sauce made it a teenee better but not too much. Perfect timing - my noodles came out soon as I was done with the crabs. Presentation was good, it looks just as advertised. Sipped the broth and... meh. It was pretty bland, there was very little depth and flavor to it. Noodles had okay texture, it was good. Ground pork wasn't much help, and the bean sprouts and green onions didn't really do anything to stimulate my taste buds. I feel like I can make better ramen from a packet at home. Now keep in mind that this is primarily a Japanese cuisine/sushi place, so I understand they really wouldn't be focusing on the ramen. But wouldn't it make sense to offer something REALLY impressive for a campaign such as Dine50? I left full, but discontented. I really detest that feeling... Service was great. They really were nice and attentive. Will most likely never order those two items again, but they do have other dishes I'm curious enough to try. I might just come back someday. read more

BUT THE DOWNFALL AND BAD THING IS THAT, when I decided to ask to use the restroom for my children they immediately decided to Denise entry. Then I said ok, we can switch our visit from outdoor to indoor and I can purchase more things to make it worth it. Well, they immediately said NO we can't do that! We love this place because of its location and great view for the sunset while sipping a nice cold drink, their food is fresh and delicious but above all, we come here because of the staff here are super fun and friendly. Now with the Covid19 around, they made sure to take preventive actions according to city guidelines and you really feel very safe dining here. Bathroom was recently upgraded too so that's good! I do recommend that you call for reservations and if possible, let them know in advance and before going what you want so this will ensure that it will be available and it will be out in a timely manner, keep in mind that they cannot bring back their full staff since they cannot use all the tables either. We told them a day before and our food came out harmoniously and we couldn't have a better good time there, the sunset was amazing too! Oriental Breeze is no pearl of the pier, but it had a few a-ok Japanese dishes if you already are at Fisherman's Wharf in Redondo Beach. Olivia Z. and me went to Oriental Breeze for the advertised Ramen Week special. A few other tables had the same coupon in hand eager for $4.75 bowls of Tan Tan Men, too. Unfortunately, Oriental Breeze isn't exactly the Orient Express when it comes to ramen because they have just 1 burner for ramen which means only 1 bowl at a time is prepared for the entire restaurant. Oriental Breeze is half Sushi Bar and half Japanese Family Diner, but it is definitely not a ramen shop. The service was struggling because the restaurant was packed; however, the team's attitude stayed positive the whole time. I sincerely appreciate their efforts. Tan Tan Men (Regularly $9.75) with Sesame-flavored Sichuan-style soup of Chili Oil and Ground Pork was full of thin curly Ramen Noodles and Bean Sprouts. The broth and pork blend was light on the classic spiciness. Even at a discount price (yay), it was barely worth the near hour-long wait. (3 stars) Cold Cha Soba Noodles ($6.75) were a better match for my summer mood. Chilled Green Tea-flavored Noodles with Mentsuyu Dipping Sauce always brings back fond memories of Japan even if the noodles were unremarkable. (3 stars) The best matches for my mood were a super-size mug of Sapporo Beer while waiting for the food and then a Dipped Cone from the external facing counter outside on the way out. Oriental Breeze may not have the most politically-correct of restaurant names, but the decor, menu, and location on the Redondo Beach Pier harken back to a previous era. Oriental Breeze has a name that might not imply it is a Japanese restaurant, but is actually a Japanese-owned izakaya located at the edge of the Redondo Beach boardwalk. There is a sushi bar by the entrance that seats no more than 8, and as you continue inside, a handful of diner booths and about 4 tables can be found in this dimly-lit shack. The environment is very casual-cozy and there are several tables with spectacular views of the pier. It's surprisingly quiet enough to hold a conversation, even on a Friday evening when most people are expected to be holding beers at an izakaya. The small kitchen at Oriental Breeze does not enable food variety to be as extensive as other izakayas like Sanuki no Sato or Honda Ya. Simplicity is the theme for food here. The first two pages of the menu conveniently highlight top 10 cold and hot izakaya dishes, with the #1 hot choice being the Chilean sea bass. There are also two types of ramen, oyster/uni shooter, grilled squid, calamari, sashimi appetizers, and many other simple deep fried snacks that you most likely won't eat at home while washing down with beers or sakes. Seafood is usually a standout at pier restaurants, so we ordered the Chilean sea bass from the kitchen and a chirashi bowl from the sushi bar. I'll have to give the Chilean sea bass the edge between the two. It was delicately glazed with miso and rice wine marinade, which added gentle sweet and salty flavors to the mild fish. The fillet was then baked in an oven for about 20 minutes. What made this fish a hit was definitely its intense buttery texture - firm body, moist, and highly tender meat. It's easy to bite into and swallow, and if you want to savor it, rest each piece over your tongue and let the butter fish melt naturally. Chirashi bowl is actually not on the Oriental Breeze menu. It's a special order that is assembled with the chef's selection of fish. My order consisted of moderately thick cuts of fresh yellowtail, mackerel, salmon, snapper, uni, ama ebi, salmon roe, and scallop (~2 pc each). It was neatly presented and the rice was perfectly moist, but there was nothing spectacular about the fish variety. The ama ebi was extremely long and firm. The uni sashimi was placed on a bed of shiso leaf, which I ate together for the very first time. Its initial taste was very minty but then soon evolved into a bittersweet flavor that I was not a fan of. I probably won't eat the shiso leaf next time. Overall, I thought that the food at Oriental Breeze was surprisingly tasty and well-crafted for an izakaya that is not very well-known in the area. The prices seemed to be a bit high and in the tourist-range, as the Chilean sea bass small plate costs $15 and the small chirashi bowl was $22. Service was close to non-existent, as servers failed to greet us at the entrance and we actually seated ourselves. Our waters never refilled our waters and it took a very long time to receive the check. I'm not sure if I will repeat (not because of their food or service, but because of its 'out of the way' location), although it's a place I would recommend people to try once if they happen to be in the Redondo Beach area. read more

Ironic name for an ironic place. They have sushi fusion with some warm plates. The sushi is just above average. The sushi chef makes all the California standards with some fusion rolls. The seasoning on the warm dishes is very good. The only downside is the service. The food comes out very slowly. It takes them on average 90 minutes to prepare three plates so plan your parking time accordingly. The place has no ventilation. The only breeze you get is from tiny screen windows above the main windows. So it's stuffy in there. In the summer, it's stuffy and hot. In the winter, it's stuff and warm. We ordered our food and waited about 45 minutes to get it. Tell me why after 45 minutes of waiting, they decide to tell me that they only have enough to make 1 order of beef curry, when my friend and I had both ordered the curry. So I had to change my order so my friend could eat the beef curry. Our orders came out at different times, and since I had to change my order, I was the last one awkwardly eating while all of my friends had already finished their food. My friend asked for no bean sprouts in her ramen, yet they were in the soup. We asked to split checks and she said we could, but when we got the check it wasn't split. Now onto the food. The tan tan ramen was not good, there was barely any flavor in the broth. The beef curry was good and had nice flavor. The dynamite dish is worth getting, it kind of tastes like a classy nacho cheese, in my opinion. I got the spicy hot pot, the broth was very tasty, much better than the broth in the tan tan ramen, but the meat tasted like dry, mundane rubber. If I were you, I would skip out on eating at this place. read more
