Met up with family at this restaurant over the weekend. I was impressed with the service, but not so much with the food. The service exceeded my expectations. Easily 5 stars. Our server was very attentive, kind, patient, and accommodating. For example, when my sister in law asked if there was a kid's menu for her children, the server politely stated that they didn't have one. However, he immediately picked up on the fact that these kids were highly fussy and picky eaters, and offered up buttered noodles, something that was not on the menu. The kids ended up loving this. I, on the other hand, was disappointed with most of the food I had. If I had to rate the food, it would be 3 stars. I ordered the MB Post Burger, which comes with a 1/2 pound grilled patty, American Cheese, applewood bacon, and honey chipotle aioli, between English muffin buns. I added a sunny side up egg to it for an extra few bucks. The burger was messy, and difficult to eat. Ended up having to eat it with a fork and knife. I expected the egg to be a bit runny, but it was cooked all the way through. All in all, it wasn't enjoyable to eat. The crispy fries were not any better. To me, they tasted overly fried. The only thing I thought was exceptional was the bacon cheddar buttermilk biscuit with the whipped honey butter. It was buttery and crispy goodness. This item alone is worth coming back to this restaurant. Overall, this place is a solid 4 star restaurant. If you're planning on visiting this place, I have to warn you that parking may be a real pain to find since the area is very popular with beach goers. When I was thinking of writing this review, I imagined explaining that I had not been to this eatery in years. And that much is true, I went in 2023 because I wrote a Yelp then for that experience. And I continue to believe it is a "solid choice." I can see how it can lend itself, and be enjoyable, to many eaters. And how its beach adjacent location draws many sandal wearers and surfers gone business casual for the night. So I will begin my focusing on what I thought was our servers faux pa. My friend Conrad and I hang out on spin mode, with the cycle never really stopping. So we kind of have an implicit expectation that sometime during our time together we will break bread. But on this ocassion, I had already eaten and he had not. This does not mean that his hunger would be true until we parted ways. We could eat together, even if I was not eating. We were by the joint so we decided to eat there because I wanted to share with him what I have found to be consistently solid and pleasant. While we were there we got a table for two. We informed our server that only Conrad would be eating, since I had already. And he gave a look. Yes, a look that I interpreted as a mix of confusion and judgement- which together makes out of place bewilderment. Why? I can totally see a pair of folks being too embarrassed to go into a restaurant, especially, a nice place like Manhattan Beach Post if only one was eating. Again, I can understand that easily. I mean people are shy and unwilling to insert themselves in situations that are non standard. But then there is other people. The people who wear PJs to the store, who rock hair of a purple shade, and well, others have grown so old that eating with a friend while they are not eating, is not embarrasing, rather just the steps of an unplanned evening. To be more specific, I think the server should have saved his "not even a drink" and proceeding confused face to himself. Conrad and I had valid reasons for entering and not dining as a duo and he should have responded with undersstanding, not just like I had said I was so hungry I could eat bigfoot raw. In short contrast, I offer the host of the place, Crystal. While eating with Conrad I did taste just a wee bit of his four cheese ear shaped pasta- Orichette- and his biscuit. The biscuit is strong but with the maple butter it sings hard, give this buttered biscuit a stage at Madison Square garden or that famous opera house in Sydney. The Orichette was also super good but one of the cheeses had like this chalky taste. It did not taste bad, but also not good, which made me engage with the dish at an analytical way. And personally, when food makes me think, I love it. Crystal heard a version of this dialogue and engaged with me saying that she feels the same way because it makes her feel like a food critic. She also asked me to go when I was hungry. Service like hers makes a place shine. Service like the server gave us makes me question why there was no guard at the door ensuring that both of us had an appetitte. The decor of the place is one that I have seen in the recent the weeks---- brown with live plants. It is lovely. It is both muted and alive. This place has been around for years and will survive my review. And I do plan to go again. And I will make sure to be hungry. I am not sure if I can guarantee that for the person I take but I will try my best. read more

Came here for brunch with some visiting friends. Service was great and the food was good though nothing too exciting. The price point is typical for Manhattan Beach, which is to say that you're paying more for the ambience than anything else. It's been awhile since I've been here so I thought I'd update my review. Since my review 13 years ago the space has been remodeled, updated and are bigger (there's more space). The food is solid. It's as tasty and well put together as I remember it to be. We started with the bacon cheddar buttermilk biscuits. I think these have been here since day one. They're FULL of lovely smoky bacon pieces and are at least 4" round! It's a pretty hearty appetizer. We quickly moved on to dinner, here's what the table ordered: Lobster & Sweet Corn Risotto - the risotto was cooked perfectly. Be sure to mix that poblano pepper butter in the middle up, it adds a great smoky chili flavor to each bite. My oinly complaint about this dish is that they used claw meat. I'm just not a fan of lobster claw, it's too gelatinously rubbery for me. Skirt Steak - Oooo, this was medium rare to perfection. The smoked paprika chimichurri gave a burst of flavor and a mild heat at the back of my throat. Chilean Sea Bass - Chilean sea bass always cuts like buttah! 2 people ordered this at our table and I'm pretty sure they loved it, that side of the table was pretty silent for 15 - 20 mins. Pork Porterhouse - This dish had the most flavor. The spaetzle was cooked and browned on the griddle, it had a fantastic crispy crust. It was a little on the salty side BUT I think 's because it needed more carbs to tame the salt. For me, it would have been PERFECT with a little rice or mashed potatoes or creamed sunchokes. Parking still sucks in MB but right behind the restaurant is a parking garage that's free after 6 pm. read more

Came here with my boyfriend after a 16 mile run from Pacific Palisades to Manhattan Beach and honestly it was the perfect place to land. Got there right before the dinner rush without reservations and were seated immediately. Always appreciate that. Justin took care of us and was such a gem. Warm, attentive, just very thoughtful and kind the whole night. He even surprised us with the Elvis dessert at the end, which was really sweet. The space is beautiful. Dim lighting. Glowy inside. Lively but not too loud. Very Manhattan Beach. We got the bacon cheddar buttermilk biscuits, roasted Alaskan halibut, and grilled skirt steak. The biscuits were unreal. The halibut felt light but still rich in the best way. The skirt steak had a great char and was exactly what I wanted after that long of a run. Just a really lovely dinner after a long run. We have been coming to this place since it opened. See my 2011 review! We have been a little tighter with our budget over the last 5 years and have only been here a few times since 2020. It used to be my favorite restaurant in the world for several reasons: casual with a LOCAL vibe, new and exciting menu every time we came in, delicious food experiences as they were making such amazing dishes. With the remodel, all ties to its past (the post office) have been removed. Now it is just a fancy Marie Calendars with no personality. For the first time ever, last night for Father's Day, I didn't see a single main dish item that interested me. We had all appetizers and salads. For some reason even the bacon biscuits underwhelmed. The flavor just wasn't as savory as I remember. The tomato salad had very sad tomatoes. The risotto lobster dish did not seem to have any risotto in it; it was all corn. The Muscles were good and the green beans were good. I also like the shrimp on toast, as strange as that sounded. I enjoyed the strawberry dessert as well. Thankfully, Justin, our waiter, took great care of us and made up for any disappointment we were experiencing. Solid dinner spot in Manhattan Beach... great vibe and the staff were super friendly. Ended up sitting at the bar since it was Friday night and the place was hopping. We had the mussels to start and they were very fresh and flavorful. Pro tip.... Let the crostinis fall down into the broth to soak up all of the flavor! I ordered the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. The sweetness of the corn relish helped balance the richness of the polenta. The first thing I noticed about Manhattan Beach Post was the plants. Not because there were a few plants. Lots of restaurants have a few plants. These plants appeared to have union representation. They're everywhere. Hanging from things. Growing out of things. Quietly observing your meal. The whole place feels like someone built a really nice restaurant and then let nature move in as a long term tenant. The room hums. Not loudly. Not aggressively. Just enough. Glasses clink. People lean into conversations. Servers weave through the room carrying plates that look heavy enough to alter their center of gravity. Nobody seems rushed. Everybody seems busy. It's a difficult balance. The biscuits arrived first. Now, I'd heard about the biscuits. People talk about these biscuits the way fishermen talk about the one that got away. Slightly dramatic. A little emotional. Hard to verify. Turns out the stories were true. Warm bacon cheddar biscuits with maple butter. I took one bite and immediately understood why people order a second round. The outside has just enough structure to remind you it's baked. The inside is soft enough to make you wonder whether butter has secretly become a building material. We ordered another. Not because we needed another. Because apparently that's what happens here. The creamy polenta showed up next and felt like the culinary equivalent of a weighted blanket. Comforting. Smooth. Relaxed. The sort of dish that encourages you to slow down and stop checking your phone. The duck was one of my favorites. Lightly fried with crisp skin and tender meat, resting on white Italian beans and rosemary. It felt like something a French chef would cook after spending a weekend in the countryside and becoming briefly inspired by fresh air. At some point you stop evaluating food and simply nod in agreement with it. This was one of those moments. Dessert was equally dangerous. The olive oil cake arrived with strawberries and disappeared much faster than logic suggested it should. The cheesecake somehow managed to be rich and light at the same time, which feels like it should violate a law of physics somewhere. Service deserves its own mention. The whole team operates like a group project where everyone actually did their part. Plates appeared when they should. Water glasses mysteriously refilled themselves. Questions were answered without anyone making you feel like you should already know the answer. The chef's French influence shows up everywhere, but not in a showy way. Nothing feels complicated for the sake of being complicated. Everything feels like somebody spent a lot of time thinking about it so you wouldn't have to. By the end of the meal, I realized Manhattan Beach Post had done something difficult. It felt special without feeling serious. You can dress up. You can come casually. You can celebrate something important or absolutely nothing at all. Just order the biscuits. The plants already know you're going to. read more

Good experience at this restaurant in Manhattan beach. Modern take on Southern and general American cuisine. Food was great, but not mind-blowing in my opinion. Some dishes could've been executed better. Going down the list of dishes I had here: - Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits: These were more like scones rather than biscuits. Crunchy with good bacon and cheddar flavor. - Japanese Hamachi Crudo: Unique and I liked the citrusy flavor and creamy texture. However, 3 small slices of fish for $26 was overpriced. - Leafy Greens & Radicchio: Solid and crispy salad with a nice tangy dressing. The cheese also added a lot of sharp flavor which was nice. - Skirt Steak: Good flavor and char, but a bit tough. Also some dry pieces. - Chilean Sea Bass: Lemon orzo risotto was creamy and delicious. The sea bass itself was okay, nothing special. It felt overpowered by the risotto. The fish was moist and flaky though. - 20 Oz Prime Beef Ribeye: Quality was subpar relative to price. Portion size was solid by the steak itself was inconsistent. Some of the pieces were rarer while others were more well-done even though we asked for medium rare. There were also some dry pieces which I did not like. Flavor was good though. - Strawberry and Olive Oil Cake: Was confused since there was just a thin layer of cake, but realized the title also referred to the mousse. I would title it 'Strawberry Mousse with Olive Oil Cake" to make it less confusing. Regardless, this was a delicious dessert! Love the fruity strawberry and savory pistachio flavors as well as the smooth textures. - S'mores sundae: Got this on the house for my aunt's birthday. A generous portion but the components were a bit too sweet for my liking. I visited this restaurant for a birthday that I organized and my experience was overall good. Reservation was made easy using OpenTable and I could also mention it was for a birthday occasion. The ambiance was gorgeous with good mood lighting. Good for group and 1 on 1 dining. Parking is metered or street parking. Overall, I probably wouldn't come out of my way to dine here again, but my experience wasn't bad just not significant enough to put in my rotation. Came in for a quick drink and would be interested to try the food. We came after brunch on a Sunday and so only got drinks and their Blueberry Coffee Cake (which was so yummy and had a delicious crumble on top). The Old Fashioned I had was good, and my friend got a White Negroni which was super tasty and reminded me of something I had in Spain. The wait staff is pretty attractive as well, so it's always nice to have something to look at while we wine and dine. Only thing preventing the 5 star was the bartender didn't know how to make Bee's Knees, but forgivable. Last night I was there on a first date. I had one of the worst experiences. I wonder if they discriminate people from other ethnicities, because I come with my white son-in-law and they treat us so differently. I'm not sure what's happening with this restaurant , I remember this amazing bartender in past, But last night was awful. Last night, my experience was this, I asked for the cheeseboard , but since we don't eat pork or ham, I asked if he could eliminate them. He started arguing back-and-forth, that they don't do that?? To my surprise, they've always done that for us in the past . I was getting annoyed by him at that point, I said sure you do, he said "no we do not". I said get your manager please . His manager arrived to our table, and he started arguing a little bit too. I said could you please remove them, and if you want to charge me for gross ham and prosciutto that I'm not going to eatthat's fine. He finally agreed to remove the damn ham from the cheeseboard. Cheeseboard arrived, but instead of honey, what they used to have they brought it with jam and mustard gross. I ask our server, I don't know if it was intentional or what??? again this Jerk started arguing, in front of my date, that in five years of serving, he has never served his chessboard with honey?? even though they removed almost $20 worth of nasty meat, they could've substitute that for honey. But offering me to bring me a tiny piece of honeycomb for $20. ??? He was mean and rude. I stopped arguing with this demonic server . I just let go. For sure he ruined my night. It just looked like None of the workers were happy to work there, then dude leave the damn job and go and get another job. On the menu They had fingering potatoes or french fries. On their menu they are raving about a $20 french fries, so I order a salad and french fries. My salad and french fries almost 30 minutes later didn't arrive. All servers passing by people and they never make eye contact, and they try to ignore you as much as they can. Finally, after 20 times of them passing and ignoring you, I got someone's attention and asked what happened to our french fries and the salad??? When the french fries arrive, they were thick like fingering potatoes. It look like they took a Rustico potato and cut it into 4 pieces. It was the worst french fries I have ever seen. I like the tennis, french fries, and these were far from being thin I walked out of there spending $200, extremely annoyed, and disSatisfied What a negative vibe, what a negative environment. The restaurant has a cozy, well decorated space with a warm and inviting vibe that makes it perfect for a celebration. The service was attentive and friendly throughout the night, which made the experience even better. We started with their famous bacon cheddar biscuit. I was initially skeptical since I am not usually a biscuit person, but it ended up being delicious, especially with the whipped maple butter. We also tried the hamachi which was fresh and nicely paired with fruit, along with the brussels sprouts and the arrabbiata. Both were flavorful, with the pasta having a great chewy texture. Came here for brunch and got the MB Post Breakfast with bacon and the key lime éclairs. The MB Post Breakfast doesn't look like a big portion when the plate first comes out, but looks can be deceiving! I was totally full after dessert. The butter with the fluffy biscuit was absolute heaven. I really enjoyed the green sauce--I used it on both the eggs and the potatoes. The fruit was refreshing, and the bacon was so perfectly crunchy. The key lime éclairs were so delicious. I was genuinely sad that we had to split two bars between four people. The waiter was so nice and attentive, checking in often without feeling intrusive, and he had great menu recommendations that made the experience even better. The ambiance was warm and lively--modern but cozy--without being too loud to enjoy a conversation. It felt like the kind of place you want to linger in. The only reason this review isn't a full 5 stars is because I went back a second time on a different day, and it wasn't as good. In fact, I mentioned that the lime zest was missing from the éclairs, and only after I pointed it out did they bring our party another plate. Spent a weekend exploring Manhattan Beach and decided to have brunch in this restaurant which is located just across from the beach. It was a busy day for them but glad that we made a reservation ahead. The restaurant has multiple sections for either group or intimate seating. At the lobby, there's couches facing a fireplace. When you enter the main dining room, there's a bar and a lot of seating available. We decided to order the following: Lobster avocado toast $28 Eggs Benedict $23 Blood and smoke $13.50 I loved that the ingredients were fresh including the lobster. I love avocado with anything so when it's paired with fresh lobster, it's perfection. Eggs Benedict was also delicious and I loved that eggs were perfectly cooked. The blood and smoke was the perfect drink to complement both entrees. So the next time you're in Manhattan and wanted to splurge, I highly recommend this restaurant. read more

I came here for my moms birthday with my family! Didn't know what to expect cus I didn't look at the menu but I was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the biscuits, little gem salad ( I think that's what it was called) the pork ricotta pasta, the burger, chicken sandwich, and one pasta that I don't know the name of. I hate to say the biscuits and fries were my favorite .... LOL. It might be bc I was hungry and it was the first thing we ate but it's delicious! The chicken sandwich was also my favorite. That green sauce that's in there, so fire. I ordered the ricotta thinking it was risotto.. so I wasn't really a fan of it. :/ I also really enjoyed the salad, it was really refreshing and the lettuce they use is soooo juicy and fresh! Decided to come here for Happy Hour since we needed to kill some time and get a quick bite before a birthday party. The place has been updated since the last time we were here years ago. I really like the decor, they have a lounge/bar area in the front and dinner seats in the back. We were seated quickly in the front. Server came right away to get our drinks and take our order. We decided to get the jidori fried chicken sandwich, couple orders of fries and 3 MB Post burgers. Burgers were really good, meat was fresh and juicy. My chicken sandwich was crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It also had a great spicy sauce... would order this again. Fries were nice and crunchy and flavorful. I had a fantastic dinner at MB Post! The food here never fails to impress. The Hamachi Crudo was incredibly fresh and flavorful--a perfect way to start the meal. I was most surprised by the Skirt Steak; it was so tender and juicy that I could hardly believe it was a skirt steak! It literally melted in my mouth. The Lobster Risotto was delicious, though it was a tad on the salty side for my taste, but still very rich and satisfying. However, the absolute highlight of the night was the Bacon Cheddar Biscuits. A team meeting dinner for 8- the vibe of tge atmosphere is light and many succulents. We struggled a bit figuring out the menu as our waiter said the dishes are shareable but it is such an eclectic menu. We ended up each selecting our own dish and frankly once we got the fishes it seemed to make more sense with the size of the portions. Everyone mentioned they enjoyed their dishes so that IS the goal! My pasta was really good and more than I could finish! I've been here a few times for brunch/lunch but this review is for the dinner menu. I reserved this place on Opentable for my boyfriend's 30th birthday. And though it isn't necessary, I thought it would have been nice if our server checked our reservation and saw that I had put it twice that the occasion was for a birthday, and would have wished him a happy birthday. We ordered the famous biscuits as I was raving about them on the way to the restaurant, yuzu zucchini salad, Japanese hamachi crudo, and grilled skirt steak. The moment that cheddar bacon biscuit touched my tongue, reality shattered. Warm, flaky layers exploded with molten cheese, each crisp bacon fragment delivering smoky artillery fire across my palate. The butter's richness created a golden aura around my trembling form as I reached for another, helpless against its power. But the true battle had only begun. The charcuterie board arrived like an ancient general's tactical map. Cured meats draped across the plate--each slice a different weapon in the chef's arsenal. Prosciutto melted like silk on contact and the accompaniments formed perfect support battalions. Cornichons! Mustard! The acid cut through fat with surgical precision, resetting my palate for the next devastating blow. Then came the porter house pork chop. Time stopped. The sear on that magnificent beast gleamed under the lights like polished armor. My fork sank through the tender flesh as if it were warm clouds, juices flowing across the plate in victorious streams. The mushroom sauce cascaded down, earthy and deep, each fungal note building a symphony of umami that made my eyes roll back. And the spätzle--those little pillowy soldiers absorbed the sauce, becoming flavor grenades that detonated with each bite! The lobster risotto entered the arena with aristocratic confidence. Creamy. Too creamy! The rice had achieved that impossible texture between firm and yielding, each grain perfectly suspended in a sea of buttery, oceanic bliss. Chunks of sweet lobster meat emerged like treasures, their delicate brininess elevated by the Parmesan's sharp embrace. Finally, the blood orange caramel cheesecake delivered the finishing move. We had a really positive experience with the service from the moment we walked in--friendly, attentive, and consistent throughout the meal, which definitely stood out and made us feel welcome. That said, the food didn't quite live up to the same standard. I initially wanted a breakfast burrito but was told it couldn't be customized since the filling is pre-prepared the day before, which was a bit disappointing. I ended up ordering the traditional breakfast instead. Unfortunately, the potatoes tasted like they had been cooked earlier and reheated, and the bacon was overwhelmingly salty. We also tried the specialty bacon cheddar biscuits, which were a letdown--very dry and hard. We ordered two servings but left one untouched because they just weren't enjoyable. Overall, we'd rate this experience 4 stars largely because of the excellent service. We'd be open to coming back to try the dinner menu, but we'll likely skip breakfast or brunch next time. read more

Consistently a great dining experience! I hadn't stopped in here for many months and I'm so happy I did last night. As per usual, the food and drinks were delicious. We had the famous cheddar/bacon biscuits, scallops, baby gem lettuce salad and short ribs. Each dish was spot on. The highlight were the short ribs, very tender and seasoned to perfection. Had a late brunch here today. It was a good time to come - 2 pm. Not very busy. The place can get loud. We had really good service. We had a very light meal but everything was good. My friend had the biscuits - she wanted them to be more flaky, but the flavors were great! We also had the pumpkin coffee cake which was delish! The green beans and crudo were also very good. The only thing about the crudo was it was a little thicker than I like - still tasted good with pomegranates. Maybe more seasonal items. There's lots of parking within a short walk. Not as easy over the summertime. read more

My group love love loved this place! We came for brunch and had the Bacon Cheddar Biscuits, Skirt Steak, and Crispy Caramel Brussel Sprouts. Everything was phenomenal and oh so flavorful. Great for sharing and much more filling than it looks. I'd recommend everything we had, and then some. Yes, prices are a bit high, but in-line with expectations for the neighborhood and the quality. Service was efficient, courteous and very much appreciated. I will definitely be back for dinner. I can see why this place is a hit for locals, and should be on every tourist's list. Those biscuits are worth a trip, alone! There's street parking all around and a parking garage nearby. Be sure to check your parking meters. read more

We just had the Japanese Hamachi Crudo, which was fantastic. The Finn in it gives us amazing rush bite after you taste the Crudo. We also ate new to the menu the creole honey butter lays half chicken. Let me tell you the sauce on this chicken was fantastic. It's a white barbecue sauce. As far as the staff the manager Marquin is incredible. He's actually working behind the bar helping the bartenders to keep up on drink so they don't go out late. Our bartender Lucas was amazing super friendly, very engaging and made a delicious mock cocktail from scratch. if you're in the Manhattan Beach area I would definitely stay to stop by. We were really looking forward to dining here, but the experience was disappointing from the start. We did our due diligence by checking Yelp and Google Reviews which all showcased this great outdoor dining area (photos and listed here on Yelp and other sites), and we even made an OpenTable reservation specifically requesting "outdoor dining" in the comments. Despite the request, no one called us to clarify their seating options. After navigating the very challenging parking in this area, we arrived only to be told by both hosts that they don't actually have any outdoor dining accommodations. We understand if policies or layouts change, but it would have been professional to receive a call letting us know beforehand. Fortunately, this led us to call The Strand House, where we were able to get a wonderful patio table. They were incredibly professional, and the food was both terrific and memorable. While we won't be returning to MB Post, we highly recommend heading over to The Strand instead. read more

MB Post can best described as a casual fine dining place with an intimate ambiance. After 12+ years, they are doing even better with food, drink, and an updated look. Chef Lefreve continues his passion for fine dining and doesn't disappoint. The menu is balanced with excellent dishes from skirt steaks to heritage pork. Side dishes are hearty and offer creative takes on flavors and textures with seasonal flair. The ambiance also offers a nice, casual atmosphere with a stocked bar that doubles for dining. The staff are well-versed and very attentive. Whether you're dining alone or entertaining MB Post has always been an excellent choice. Of course, dishes are made and best be shared. read more

Please wash your cups with actual dish soap!!!!! The restaurant, staff, food and ambiance were great.... I only struggled with dirty cups. every single cup smelled like egg on the sunday we went for brunch. We had to switch cups 3 times and finally ended up using the kids plastic cup which was the only clean thing they could find. For a Michelin rated restaurant, it's such a basic miss to serve drinks in eggy cups! read more
