Think King Plus is just another hot pot restaurant? Think again. We started our meal outside on the patio with their bar menu, and it was the perfect way to kick off the night. The house poke salad, crispy pork gyoza, edamame, grilled jumbo scallop skewers, grilled shrimp skewers, and the Wagyu ribeye yakitori were all packed with incredible flavor. To drink, I had the refreshing Lychee Mocktail, and we also tried King Plus's five-sake flight, which is a great way to experience a variety of authentic Japanese sakes. Then we headed inside for the hot pot experience. We sampled four different broths--Kombu, Tonkotsu, Spicy Miso, and Sukiyaki--before cooking premium beef and fresh seafood right at our table. The Royal Seafood Set featured shrimp, Atlantic salmon, fresh scallops, fish balls, and the chef's curated seafood selection, while the Royal Beef Experience included ribeye, chuck roll, and beef belly. But the highlight for me was the Japanese A5 Miyazaki Wagyu. It was beautifully marbled, incredibly tender, and practically melted in my mouth after just a few seconds in the broth. We wrapped up the meal with a refreshing Yuzu Pop Sparkler, creamy matcha ice cream, and rich matcha cheesecake. If you're looking for more than just hot pot in Redondo Beach, King Plus Shabu Shabu is definitely a spot you have to try. read more

The interior is beautiful with their wine collection lining the main walkway of the dining area We had a pleasant server who took our drink orders. A Matcha Latte and a regular coffee. It took some time to arrive, assuming because the Latte took time to make. When asked if we needed cream and sugar, we said yes. The server returned with tiny spoons and then disappeared. It took another 10 mins for the cream and sugar. The server gave us suggestions for entrees and we ordered. When our food arrived, the floor manager asked how everything was but we hadn't taken the first bite yet. The server returned to ask if we wanted another Latte. He never inquired about the coffee nor did he offer to refill it. For the entire service, the regular coffee was never refilled. I had the avocado toast, which was just ok. I was told the egg would be lightly scrambled and I agreed but I should have had it poached. The runny yolk would have helped the hard crust of the toast. Server Álvaro is an actual SAINT at Saint & Second! I want to start by clarifying that I went to S&S yesterday afternoon ready to cry major boo-hoo tears to my two besties, without much of an appetite. Instead, I ended up with a full belly and side cramps from laughing along with our awesome server, Alvaro. The Man. The Myth. The Legend that he is! Small Backstory: Last Friday I lost my job of almost 25 years in public education due to a complicated work accident (my back was broken & I now have screws in my spine) and I planned to whine to my best friends into a cocktail or two, and get out plenty of Kim Kardashian ugly-cry faces until it would be time to go home. Enter ALVARO! This kind man had the nerve to be polite to us! The nerve! LOL. He greeted us with a warm smile while my cold heart was practically making it snow. He explained all portions of the breathtaking menu when I had planed to eat my sadness. He even had the GALL to say if we wanted something not on the menu that he would see what he could do to make it happen! Here I was, ready to drink Unicorn Tears, and he was cheering me up! WHAT THE??! LOL The three is us started with the MEZZE PLATE. And OH LORD! I think we ate the print off of the plates while trying to get to the last crumb. We polished off a whole extra serving of cucumber slices in the process, by the way, and I'm not embarrassed to say that. The Turkish honey-sweetened labne was such a party in our mouths! Make of that what you will. Each of us got a dinner entre, with mine being the S&S Fish and Chips. I loved that the fillet was not overly battered and the chips had an almost double-Belgium fried taste going on. I couldn't help but swipe several spoons worth of aged-cheddar grits off a friend's seared pork chop plate. Now THOSE were some butter-heaven sent grits! My drink, that kept shooting partially through my nostrils from laughter, was a classic margarita on the rocks. No margaritas were injured/harmed in the process of my belly laughter. At some point towards the end of our night, a patron of the mall next door pulled the site-wide fire alarm, ringing through the whole location for everyone to use caution and head to the closest exit. If you grew up like my friends and I, you don't follow that suggestion unless you're trying to run out on the bill like a jerk. Bless be to Alvaro, he stopped by our table several times to apologize about the noise and flashing lights and explained the fire department was working on it. I explained that the Hood Cricket sound didn't bother us and we were happy to wait out the alarm. So not only did Alvaro provide us with excellent service, an outstanding meal, and generous smiles, but he also made sure that we felt SEEN. And THAT is what made the whole evening worth it. No sadness or cringey tears about a lost job were needed. It ends up all we needed was a server named Alvaro at Saint & Second to make my spirits feel high again. Pricing is a bit high but was totally worth it! Patrons were dressed business casual. Sound level, not counting the hood cricket, was mid and conversation was easy to have. Several televisions were playing different stations but no captions were provided. There is handicap parking available in the parking garage located just outside the front door of the establishment and no stairs or elevators are needed to enter. There are several entrances/exits to the available outdoor seating area and outdoor heaters are available. Glances around showed me that every patron I saw was tucking into their plates with smiles and were enjoying themselves. I have already made plans to return to S&S in another two weeks because it was indeed THAT GOOD! And for those fine diners that are wondering, "But what is a Hood Cricket?" JOEY had a bit of a wait so I saw Saint & Second across the way with no wait. So our group shifted to Saint & Second.... Good decision! They have indoor and outdoor seating as well as a bar area. They also have a private room that seats 12 people (lunch hour you have to spend $750 and dinner is $1200). If you arrive just before dinner, there's no wait but as it got closer to 6/7pm, the crowd grew. Regina was our waitress and she was outstanding! We had a party of 9 (plus a baby) and she was very attentive. She made some good menu suggestions for drinks. I'm usually a cognac drinker but since they didn't have cognac I went with the cranberry spritz (refreshing gin drink). Upon arrival we were seated right away if not early, our party of four trickled in slowly but they still let us sit down. Service was attentive and helpful. We got our drinks first followed by food order. I got the shakshuka which was very good and full of flavor. There is a slight spicy kick to it. The drink menu features a long list of wines, cocktails and beers. Plus, the restaurant has a small happy hour which features a couple of cocktails, wines, beers and some appetizers. We had a couple of appetizers and then moved onto the regular menu. We settled on a 26-dollar hamburger and steak. Hamburger was solid in taste although a bit pricey. The steak was perfectly cooked! Better prepared than a recent steak that I had ruth chris which is supposed to be known for their steaks. My only gripe- was that they seemed a little overwhelmed with the crowd. I have been wanting to check out Saint and Second ever since they opened up at Manhattan Village last year. I finally got the chance to check it out during a brunch outing. Brunch is offered on weekends from 9am to 3pm and features a menu of various appetizers, breakfast offerings such as pancakes and egg dishes, as well as lunch sandwiches and salads. We started our meal with their Gochujang-Glazed Pork Belly ($19). This starter consisted of two big pieces of pork belly alongside some Korean condiments, kimchi, scallion, pickled daikon and butter lettuce. It was a good starter overall though I felt that the pork belly was not as tender as expected. Nevertheless I was fan that it was a lean cut of pork. The pairing kimchi had just a mild level of spice. For our mains, we ordered the Smoked Tri-Tip Hash ($24) and the Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($21). I had originally thought the Tri-Tip Hash would feature thin pieces of tri-tip but I was surprised to see large, generous pieces of meat. The portion size of this dish was perfect for sharing. The tri-tip was smothered with a rich chipotle hollandaise and served with Yukon potatoes, onions, bits of bacon, broccolini, two poached eggs and two sourdough breads. Though this was quite a fulfilling dish, I found the tri-tip to be a bit tough. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was also quite large in size. It came on a soft potato brioche bun that was toasted to achieve wonderfully crisp edges. I loved the crisp bread as well as the crunchy chicken patty, though I did find the chicken to be a bit on the salty side. The saltiness was somewhat offset by the peanut chili crunch, though I wish they had added more of it. The addition of Korean pickles, purple cabbage slaw, kimchi comeback sauce was also a nice touch. This sandwich also came with side salad consisting of local greens and herbs with sherry vinaigrette dressing. The salad was a refreshing compliment to the dish. Last but not least, I got a Vanilla Latte ($6.50). This drink is made out of the restaurant's housemade vanilla syrup, espresso and steamed milk. While the drink was smooth, it did not quite deliver that sweet vanilla flavor. Overall, I enjoyed Saint and Second. I did have somewhat high expectations and while I found the meal to be pleasant, it wasn't quite what I had imagined. From the moment we walked in, we had an amazing experience! The drinks were outstanding--perfectly crafted, refreshing, and full of flavor. The appetizer selection was just as impressive. The area inside is really spacious and the ambiance was serene. We got the truffle fries as a starter and it was really filling for 2 people. Our main entrees were the Shakashouka and the Tri Tip Hashbrowns. I liked the tri tip dish, it was salty with the bacon bits and glazed with a sweet sauce on top of the potatoes and broccolini. The Shakashouka was sweet and slightly sour with the tomatoes which added a nice flavor profile when dipped with the bread. read more

Stopped by for Happy Hour to meet with a friend and had the opportunity to be seated at the outdoor bar. The restaurant had quite a few parties indoors and outside. The hosts and servers were pleasant and accommodating. The False Alarm was delectably smoky and tart! My favorite nosh were the crispy chicken sliders with cabbage, pickle, and kimchi sauce. The butternut hummus was a refreshing take and the pomegranate garnish provided a nice contrast. The blackened salmon tacos were tasty - salmon was cooked properly and the lime brightened each of the flavors, but the tortilla broke apart after my first bite. (Be careful and eat directly over your plate!) The smash burger and fries were simple and filling. I'd like to return to try entrees for the next visit. read more

First time for brunch and we really enjoyed our time here! Really nice ambiance inside and great outdoor patio as well. We ordered their mezze plate, avocado toast and their fried chicken sandwich. Everything was well plated and they all tasted really good! We appreciated the bread to avocado and egg ratio, more toppings and thinner bread, because some places give thicker toast with less toppings. The only criticism is the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken was thin and had more breading on it. It was also a bit messy with all the toppings falling out and the sandwich itself falling apart. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our time here and service was great, we would want to come back and try other things on their menu! read more

Wow what a crew they have in place here! My friend made the reservation yesterday, and boy was it needed! You better not think of coming here without a reservation, or be prepared to wait...and wait. We certainly did the first time around a few weeks ago! Janet was our server and achieved CSA or Customer service All-Star status. From the outset, she made a fresh batch of coffee, and took our order with a pleasant demeanor and energy. Insider tip: If there are only two in your party, ask for table 301. Let's call it.....Rob G My guest went with the traditional breakfast along with eggs scrambled well, bacon, and opted for a biscuit as opposed to sliced bread. I went with the chicken sandwich that comes with the side salad. My piece of chicken could have been bigger as I'm a bigger guy, but other than that all was perfect. Honorable mention goes out to the staff as a whole, particularly those ladies who were tasked with keeping things organized and running as a well-oiled machine up front. Making a reservation online was quick and easy. They also had plenty of seating inside and out, so they may be able to accommodate walk-in also. The restaurant is located in the center of the shopping area, and parking in one of the garages is the best option. We had a party of four, and they weren't too busy when we arrived. We were seated outside with a view of the courtyard, This was perfect for people watching. Our server, Brooke, was very attentive and prompt in meeting our needs. The couple we were with enjoyed the mimosa flight, which came with a full bottle of champagne. I ordered the Smoked Tri-Tip Hash. It was full of flavor. I don't mind poached eggs, but if that's not your thing, be sure to ask for them cooked differently. The yolk, while tasty, gets everywhere! I also tried some of the pancakes, chef's kiss. They come as two large pancakes, so if that's your meal, you'll definitely be full. They could also be good for sharing. Everyone was satisfied with their meals. Some others in the party lightly added salt and pepper to their meals, but the Tri-Tip Hash was good for me. I often stay in the Manhattan Beach area when I'm in LA, and this restaurant has definitely been added to my list of go-to list. read more
