We had a few hours to kill before flying home from LAX so after Uber dropped us off at the mall we walked down the Greenway to the beach and found this amazing place! When I told Sylvia, our server, that we loved this place better than In & Out she laughed and said the owners are from Boston and that explains why their clam chowder should win an award! Amazing pick two choice: salmon tacos and the clam chowder. Amy also had fries and their home made ketchup and aoli mayo dip were also very good. This meal paired well with their Paso Rose. Bon appetit! Can't wait to come back. Thank you Hook & Plow and Sylvia. You guys rock.

    Yummy drink!

The perfect spot for a relaxing vibe! If you like restaurants that are not too noisy this is THE place. I ordered the prime steak sandwich and it was YUMMMYYYY, full of flavor. Tessa, our waitress, was extremely helpful and kind

Ambiance was quiet and cozy. Service was fantastic. Well informed staff, to answer all questions about the menu. Compliment's to the chef and kitchen staff as well.

Welcome to Manhattan Beach Hook & Plow. Great addition, tucked away just across the street of the Sketchers store on Manhattan Beach Blvd. Small but cute location with a patio as well as indoor dinning. We tried several dishes. We had the Furikake fries and ceviche as an appetizer. The fries were so good, they got devoured. I would get these every time. The ceviche was very nice. Loved all the avocado to add a creaminess. The peach and burrata salad is the perfect summer salad, and paired nicely with the perfectly seared ahi. The salmon salad came with roasted Brussels and broccoli, so a good way to get in extra veggies lol. Salmon had a nice crispy skin and flaky texture to the fish. Another great dish. Service was very attentive and we got a table in the heart of lunch with no issue. Will definitely return

wow!! third time it the charm! i have been wanting to try this place for a few months. The first time we tried to come for brunch they hadn't opened yet, the second time they were closed for a private party, and finally the third time we were able to dine with them and it did not disappoint!! we went in for an early lunch on a saturday and it was so lovely, the service was spectacular and our waitress was very knowledgeable. we enjoyed the steak sandwich (12/10!!!) literally one of the best sandwiches i have had in a while and had started out with some fries which was also so delicious!! cant wait to be back

I had my birthday dinner here and it was a good time. This is a relaxed, cozy eatery that is half indoors and half outdoors. We sat toward the interior, close to the bar, and ordered a few small items. The oysters on the half shell were nicely prepared and delicious. The tuna crudo was quite busy in appearance, but overall a decent flavor. The biscuits and the burger were also good. Honestly, I was expecting more from this place. There's a yellow sauce that's used in just about everything that I wasn't crazy about, but every dish certainly looked pretty. I don't think we'd get anything except the oysters again. Parking is available on the street. Don't forget to pay the meter!

Fancy restaurant a short walk from the MB pier. Great ambiance for a date night. Nice THU burger special. We've gone a couple of times after work and school. Table fire pit is sometimes unavailable or broken. Which is too bad as they are the best to seat near for the ocean chill while people watching

Amazing hidden gem in the South Bay. The fire pits are unbelievable, the ambience is perfect for date night, and the whole place has such a warm, welcoming vibe. Big thank you to Brian for being so generous and great to us, and to Tessa for the awesome service. Friendly people, amazing atmosphere, and a really special spot. Everyone in the South Bay should check this place out. We'll definitely be back.

solid spot for a nicer brunch spot in downtown manhattan beach. we biked over on father's day and did not have to wait too long for a table on the patio. i like that there are lunch combos that allow you to choose different items! everything was fresh and yummy.

I wanted to love it but the food was mediocre and overpriced for what it was. The oysters needed that acidity (lemon, mignonette, tabasco, something!). Once we asked for tabasco it was better. About $38 or so. We then ordered a chicken kale caesar salad, but the dressing was eh and the kale was soggy. Idk.. didn't impress me. The lobster roll fell apart and the lobster tasted like it came out of the freezer. Just wasn't very fresh. For a steak sandwich and that was very oily and sweet. I wouldn't come back unfortunately. I wish I liked it more, cause the restaurants ambience is nice, but :(.

My boyfriend is trying to turn me into a South Bay girlie and I think it's working.... We tried the Happy Hour (HH) at Hook and Plow - Manhattan Beach location and have gone about once a week since! The ambiance is very modern with indoor and partial outdoor/patio-esque seating. Our favorite spot is the counter seating facing the street so we can people watch and enjoy the sunset sky. They even have heaters along the ceiling that they turn on if it gets chilly! The service is tentative and great. The servers always go above and beyond in asking our seating preferences and letting us know about the happy hour deals. During one of my visits, it was cold so I asked for hot water. They brought out the hot water in a mug with a lemon on the side! Since we've gone so often recently, our server, David recognized us and called us regulars! It was a fun and enjoyable experience. David was great. I'm a wine gal and the HH House wine is always great with generous pours. My go to HH food items are the Scallop Crudo ($10) and the furikake fries. The scallop crudo is such a steal and is presented beautifully and is super flavorful with mysterious tangy sauces. The furikake fries are also delicious and come with an aioli sauce. I always ask for chopsticks so it's not as messy to eat. I would definitely like to return earlier on weekends to try out the brunch items!

David was great, especially for my first time here. He was running the whole restaurant and bar by himself and still made us feel taken care of the entire time. He gave us great recommendations and was attentive, kind, and genuinely made the experience better. Really appreciated his service.

After about twenty minutes of being ignored someone came and grabbed my husbands empty glass but left my completely full glass sitting on the bar mat. Another ten minutes or so of still not being checked on and we finally decided to leave. I'm out the twelve bucks for my drink but I consider it a twelve dollar lesson in not coming back here again. Sadly, the only reason we chose to get drinks at this bar was because I insisted I wanted a drink before heading home.

Server Álvaro is an actual SAINT at Saint & Second!…read more I want to start by clarifying that I went to S&S yesterday afternoon ready to cry major boo-hoo tears to my two besties, without much of an appetite. Instead, I ended up with a full belly and side cramps from laughing along with our awesome server, Alvaro. The Man. The Myth. The Legend that he is! Small Backstory: Last Friday I lost my job of almost 25 years in public education due to a complicated work accident (my back was broken & I now have screws in my spine) and I planned to whine to my best friends into a cocktail or two, and get out plenty of Kim Kardashian ugly-cry faces until it would be time to go home. Enter ALVARO! This kind man had the nerve to be polite to us! The nerve! LOL. He greeted us with a warm smile while my cold heart was practically making it snow. He explained all portions of the breathtaking menu when I had planed to eat my sadness. He even had the GALL to say if we wanted something not on the menu that he would see what he could do to make it happen! Here I was, ready to drink Unicorn Tears, and he was cheering me up! WHAT THE??! LOL The three is us started with the MEZZE PLATE. And OH LORD! I think we ate the print off of the plates while trying to get to the last crumb. We polished off a whole extra serving of cucumber slices in the process, by the way, and I'm not embarrassed to say that. The Turkish honey-sweetened labne was such a party in our mouths! Make of that what you will. Each of us got a dinner entre, with mine being the S&S Fish and Chips. I loved that the fillet was not overly battered and the chips had an almost double-Belgium fried taste going on. I couldn't help but swipe several spoons worth of aged-cheddar grits off a friend's seared pork chop plate. Now THOSE were some butter-heaven sent grits! My drink, that kept shooting partially through my nostrils from laughter, was a classic margarita on the rocks. No margaritas were injured/harmed in the process of my belly laughter. At some point towards the end of our night, a patron of the mall next door pulled the site-wide fire alarm, ringing through the whole location for everyone to use caution and head to the closest exit. If you grew up like my friends and I, you don't follow that suggestion unless you're trying to run out on the bill like a jerk. Bless be to Alvaro, he stopped by our table several times to apologize about the noise and flashing lights and explained the fire department was working on it. I explained that the Hood Cricket sound didn't bother us and we were happy to wait out the alarm. So not only did Alvaro provide us with excellent service, an outstanding meal, and generous smiles, but he also made sure that we felt SEEN. And THAT is what made the whole evening worth it. No sadness or cringey tears about a lost job were needed. It ends up all we needed was a server named Alvaro at Saint & Second to make my spirits feel high again. Pricing is a bit high but was totally worth it! Patrons were dressed business casual. Sound level, not counting the hood cricket, was mid and conversation was easy to have. Several televisions were playing different stations but no captions were provided. There is handicap parking available in the parking garage located just outside the front door of the establishment and no stairs or elevators are needed to enter. There are several entrances/exits to the available outdoor seating area and outdoor heaters are available. Glances around showed me that every patron I saw was tucking into their plates with smiles and were enjoying themselves. I have already made plans to return to S&S in another two weeks because it was indeed THAT GOOD! And for those fine diners that are wondering, "But what is a Hood Cricket?" An HC is a chirping fire-alarm that some of us are able to tune out with ease. You're welcome!
