Me and the OG girls had planned for our "end of summer" beach bike ride from Santa Monica Pier to Manhattan Beach; stop for lunch at Rockefeller and return back to the pier...but, "Hurricane Marie" had other plans. The rain storm caused the bike rental company to cancel all bike rentals. We called Rockefeller to cancel our lunch reservation, and they were kind enough to offer us an 11am brunch seating. So, the 8 of us decided to make the 45 min drive (in the rain) from the San Fernando Valley to Manhattan Beach, and what a time we had!! *We arrived at this very cute, rustic and cozy pub and were seated immediately. *We were greeted by our fabulous host, Kenn...who kept the mimosas and champagne flowing throughout our meal. *We started with the fried zucchini, chips and guacamole, truffle fries and sweet potato bombs.. We came as surrounding places had very long lines but this place was readily available for seating The staff was kind but not very attentive because they didn't get the orders right and also didn't check in with us as most places do while hosting diners. With regards to the food, the pancakes were standard, the steak was seasoned and cooked well but the poached eggs were very over done (we specifically asked for a runny center, but got the equivalent of a very well done hard boiled egg) and the potatoes were undercooked. I've walked past this place multiple times seeing their $2 burger Tuesday deal and I was so excited to finally try it out! Turns out it's $2 full size burger with purchase of drink that is $6 or more (or any drink and it will be charged for $6) which is such a great deal! It's a cute lil sports bar right by the beach and for the area it's in, it's surprisingly not crazy expensive. The food was also quite good and such a reasonable price. The burger of the month was delichous and it wasn't just a normal burger since it had arugula, pepper, and other sauces. The queso dip was also decently sized and proportionate to the chips ratio. We were staying in Manhattan Beach to watch USA play in the FIFA World Cup and stopped by for lunch after a walk on the beach. The whole downtown was crazy crowded with soccer fans. We didn't have a reservation but the wait staff was able to get a table after a brief 15" wait. Here is how it scored... The Food - Healthy Steak Salad ($23) Score 5/5: My oh my, this was a great salad. I love hanger steak and they cooked it perfectly. The greens were nicely selected and it was not overdressed. The price was reasonable factoring in inflation and Manhattan Beach. The Service Score 5/5: The wait staff was friendly, kind and attentive. The Venue Score 5/5: It really has a small tavern/sports bar look and feel. It's small, maybe less than 25 seats. Reservations highly recommended. And the only reason WHY I am not giving a full 5-star rating is because of The Rockefeller's cockamamie rule of "yes, we're dog friendly" but "you can't have your dog or your party block the sidewalk" and "we're not allowed to have the chairs out to here (indicating a particular distance on the sidewalk)", etcetera, etcetera. The dinning room has some comfortable seating. There are a few tables outside on the sidewalk. The bar is very tiny, and there is only one restroom available for customers. There is adequate street parking and public parking close by. The menu is extensive. The wait staff is friendly and the food choices, quality and presentation are first rate. Those of us who wanted brunch enjoyed the Chilaquiles, Sancho Breakfast Burrito, and Two Eggs Any Style with bacon. The Chilaquiles was good but nothing special. The Sancho breakfast burrito is filled with braised short rib, over-easy eggs, applewood bacon, pepper jack cheese, guacamole, sriracha, and hashbrowns. It is a nice change of pace for a breakfast burrito. We also had the consistently yummy sweet potato bombs which have a unique curry flavor and a fan favorite Rocke salad which is highlighted with strawberries, gorgonzola and toasted almonds. They had some yummy cocktails - particularly enjoyed "The Obvious Choice". Bartenders/manager was on point. We also got some burgers and tacos...really well made and super tasty. First time going to The Rockerfeller in Manhattan Beach. Cool little spot, it's cozy and has a beach vibe to it. It's not really worth it for happy hour prices. Rockerfeller Mess - it was pretty good it's french fries with guacamole, house sauce, and fresh toppings. It was good, and you get a good portion. Easily feeds 2 people. Zucchini Fries - you get 5 spears, which are good and lightly fried, but they lacked flavor. We added a slight dash of salt, and it made all the difference. Comes with ranch dip. Salas & Chips - this was also good. The Salas had a smokey flavor, which I loved. And you get a good size portion safe choice. Main Menu: Santa Fe Egg Rolls - you get 3 egg rolls cut in half. These were good with plenty of flavor, and the size of each one was large. The fried wrap was light and crispy, and the tated fresh. It comes with ranch dip, which I felt like a spicy ranch or Chipotle sauce would compliment it better. Ahi Womton Nachos - these were my favorite. You got a large plate of these, and the flavor and toppings were on point. The wonton chips are so good and lightly fried. The ahi was fresh and covered almost every wonton. Great choice for groups and personal. So good. Cabo Shrimp Tacos - this comes with 3 tacos and black beans. This was a great choice as well, super fresh and good size tacos. The flavor was great. They also have a great beer and wine selection. Service: Staff was amazing and friendly. Only had on server the he was killing it with all tables. He checked on us throughout our time there and provided good feedback on the menu. The tables were kind of close together and one of the people at the table could not move much. We got the roast veggie flatbread, the seared ahi tacos, and the braised short rib tacos.
