The atmosphere is laid back, the service was friendly, and it is the kind of place that fits perfectly with the beach town vibe. The standout for me was the birria fries. They were packed with flavor and had just the right amount of richness. Every bite was delicious, and the toppings worked really well together. My only complaint is that I wish there had been more meat on top. At $15.50, you are paying quite a bit for fries with toppings, so a little extra birria would have made the dish feel like a better value. The Caesar salad with chicken is an absolute must. Sometimes a simple salad can be overlooked, but this one was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. The chicken was cooked well, and it made for a satisfying meal on its own. This place is always packed to the gills. I figured it had to be good. We came at a good time, when it wasn't too busy. It was a Tuesday, so it was Taco Tuesday, of course. They have a good selection of beers. The seating is packed, but it's fun and festive. We got the 15 minute wings. I have to say, they were just okay. For the price, I'm not sure they are worth it. The sauce is a little sweet, and no one at my table thought it was as amazing as they claim. Don't get me wrong, they have good crunch and all that, but they end up being almost $3.00 a wing. I got the simmzys burger that's kinda like a smash burger. I didn't love the texture of the meat. I don't know what grind they are using, but it felt like a cheaper grind. It had some bits that were chewy. My husband had the other burger and he thought the same. Didn't love the meat. The fries are thin and you can mix with sweet potato fries which is fun. The tostada was a great deal for the price. I liked the place. I just wasn't blown away. They do a good job. But I've had better wings and burgers. Worth a try. TLDR: Great atmosphere, ocean views and fresh air. Friendly service, mediocre food. Lorraine was a friendly face that greeted us when we walked up to the restaurant when I was busy Wednesday evening. Kids were still running around in Halloween costumes, the Dodgers vs. Blue Jays World Series game was on and there was a really good vibe. The we ordered some wings to get started which were piping hot (temperature-wise) but the flavor was sort of bland. Neither sweet nor spicy. Texture was good, nice crispy outside and moist inside. But there were only six. I ordered the Bacon Blue burger with mixed sweet potato and regular fries. The burger was decent. Good flavor. But I ordered it medium and it came out Medium Well. Not too big of a deal but just a little drier than I preferred. The best part was seeing the beautiful Manhattan Beach sunset in the distance, feeling the crisp (for the area) fall air and enjoying the vibe. Simmzy's is a fun place. It's also in a fun place that I happened to really enjoy during our trip to California; Manhattan Beach. We happened by and had actually started out with plans on having dinner somewhere different, but we ended up here and it was a nice experience. The edge here is that it has a beachfront brewery vibe to it but in a nice compact space tucked along the side of the main drag headed down towards the water. I also enjoyed the selection of beers that they had available, although it was IPA heavy, although that seems to be everywhere anymore, being nearly impossible to find a nice clean lagered brew of almost any type anywhere. The menu was everything you would expect from a place with a fresh and interesting offering and the staff was fun and upbeat. As you may know by now if you have read any of my other reviews, when the menu has many choices that all sound good, I have a bit of a hard time making a final decision. But the gentleman behind the bar that was helping our table was fully engaged in making our meal a success. The sandwich I had was pretty good although I was jealous of Hayley's poke bowl as it looked really great. Everyone else had nachos as usual and fries. Where Simmzy's really seemed to excel was that they really didn't shine in any one particular way, but they didn't flounder in any way at all either. It's one of those places that just feels good to go to, I feel this would be especially true if you live nearby. Being able to stop in for a lunch or dinner or any small meal in between and have all the common favorites with interesting things thrown in every once in a while. If we happen to have the opportunity to take another trip back to Manhattan Beach in the future, I am positive that we will likely stop at Simmzy's again and I will be looking forward to it. read more

Great little spot a few blocks from the beach! It was pretty packed on a Sunday at lunch which makes sense, and we were still able to get sat after only a 10-15 min wait. The Bloody Mary and the margarita were pretty good! We got the burgers and a salad, the burger was delicious and cooked perfect. Sweet potato fries are a must in my opinion. The only negative thing was my friend asked our server for her opinion on a few menu items, asking what was popular to better help her decide on what to get, and it seemed like the server was annoyed to have to answer. Always a busy spot, with a burger worth waiting for. The line/wait time fluctuates, I've been lucky and was able to get a 2 top under 5min on a Sunday for brunch, and I've waited 30+min on a random Wednesday for lunch (also 2 top). You never know until you get there. The service is efficient, and despite the crowds food comes out at a decent pace. I've tried other items on their menu, but I tend to go for their burger. It is consistently delicious. For somebody who does not like blue cheese, I am repeatedly surprised by how much I like this burger. There are a couple tables with ocean view. Wait time for those may be longer. I would recommend this for party of 2-max 4 people. The space is small and cramped. P.s.: If you want to go because of the burger (not because of the view/location), try Lil Simmzy's at The Point. There's a big parking lot and more space. It's a different vibe, I like it. If you, like me, go for the burger and live in the area, give that one a try. It's a bit more convenient and you can hang out longer. read more

Really nice spot in Manhattan Beach. We street parked which wasn't too hard to get a couple blocks away on a holiday Tuesday. It was taco Tuesday so we got Baja fish tacos which were my favorite thing there. Ahi tostada was also flavorful and crispy. We got the salmon sandwich which they graciously split for us into two plates and the mixed bag fries (sweet lotto and thin crispy potato) were delicious. Nice and attentive service. The inside is very small but a great beach bar vibe! Good music playing and plenty of TVs throughout to catch the game. Our food was delicious! Ordered the California Chicken Sandwich w/ the half garlic fries and half sweet potato fries. So good! We also got an order of the 15 Minute Wings and those were very good and big. So the wife and I were craving a new spot last weekend and came across this place on yelp. It was pretty busy but we were able to find a table. It was pretty loud and crowded on a Sunday afternoon but the menu looked good. Our waiter was nice enough to help with beer suggestions. For starters we got the 15 min wings (but worth the wait) for an appetizer and those were nice and crunchy. We also got the sweet and spicy crispy cauliflower appetizer which was delicious. For our entrees we spilt the little gem salad with a piece of salmon. They were nice enough to let us split the plate since we had a big amount of appetizers. We had a few hours to kill in Manhattan Beach and this place seemed to have a good vibe and good music, so we figured, why not? We sat at the bar and the service was surprisingly quick, even though they were very busy on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The drinks were solid and the food (my wife and I split a gigantic bowl of chicken tortilla soup and some nachos) was pretty good -- not great or anything, but one step above my baseline expectation for a crowded beach bar. I started going to this Simmzy's location about 15 years ago, probably not long after they opened. The beer's good, the vibe is good, service is good, sure... whatever... I moved away from LA a long time ago and don't get back as often as I'd like. When I do visit, a friend and I usually meet here for old time's sake. Simmzy's is where I first convinced this friend to order his burger rare. He didn't want to at first, but tried a bite of mine and was instantly hooked. One of my biggest food pet peeves is when a restaurant asks how you want your burger cooked and then messes it up. I don't care if your burger is a smash burger that's meant to be cooked through, that's fine and delicious. But if you ask me how I want it and I say "rare," then deliver. Beef is also pretty darn bad for the environment, so I'm not giving many chances anymore to places that can't cook to order. It's a waste, and it's an easy way to get a mediocre review. In a country where ordering a rare burger feels like a gamble, Simmzy's has been reliable for me, and very tasty, of course. Honestly, it's been so reliable that the Simmzy's burger is basically the only thing I order there. (Granted I only make it in once a year or less now; Portland-to-LA isn't exactly a quick commute.) I can't guarantee they'll nail your burger the way you want it every time, but they absolutely have for me, and I appreciate that more than I used to. So yeah: get the Simmzy's burger, order it rare, thank me later. And look, their meat is good. Red meat is not great for you or the planet and we should all eat less of it. If you're going to eat it less, you might as well eat it well (and I don't mean well done). read more

Went on a Wednesday night and it was almost full. Really lively causal spot with multiple monitors if you want to watch the game or watch downtown MB with their open patio. Service was attentive and friendly. I got a Russian IPA on draft and the Billionaire burger with Wagyu and my partner got the Blackened Salmon Sando. The beer was really refreshing and I like how they have rotating draft options. The Garlic Aioli and fries were good but the burger itself was ok. I got the burger medium rare but it was a bit dry towards the middle. The blackened salmon was better and tasty throughout. We got the Churros to finish it off and it came coffee ice cream but the churros were pretty tough to chew and seemed like it was frozen originally. I frequent this place for the blue cheese fries. Even people who don't like blue cheese have loved them. The fries here are crispy and flavorful and the blue cheese fries come with fresh onions and some gingery flavor in there too. Sweet, tangy, rich and sharp at the same time. Fun, assorted variety of beers and cocktails too. Have also had the burgers there and the ingredients tasted fresh. Dog friendly! They'll even bring a treat for your pup. Friendly, attentive service.
