The place is iconic, the food is good and the portions large. Good service helps to make up for the crowds who swarm here at meal time. Great breakfasts served all day and good dineresque lunches and dinners. And if you are in the mood, snd somehow have room, the deserts aren't too shabby either. Good luck, though, with the parking.
After watching the sunset, Hubby and I wanted to grab a quick dinner. We walked in and sat at the bar! Food was good! French onion soup was my favorite! Server Dani was great!
Def an old timer feel. It's such a cute diner. Indoor & outdoor seating for whatever you desire. Service was quick and friendly. I came late-ish about 10pm on a Thursday. They had people so it was still somewhat poppin at this hour. I ended up ordering a tuna sandwich, basically the melt but with no cheese or being toasted/melted. I like their tuna-- not too fishy. Sometimes tuna salad can end up being fishy. It was a healthy serving of tuna as well! Absolutely a generous amount. It came with a side of fruit, which the fruit was interesting. I never had a side of grapefruit before. It's a nice cozy place to stop by if you don't wanna end up at one of the fancy shmancy restaurants on the strip. Menu is pretty extensive so you have a lot of variety to choose from! Prices are pretty fair. Street parking/metered parking.
Super cool that this place is opened long hours and that they serve breakfast all day. It's basically a dinner with a huge menu and portions. The food was average to me, I didn't love anything and nothing really stood out. The Shirley Temple wasn't good either, it tasted like soda water with grenadine. Our server put in the wrong order for us, so we ended up having to wait a little longer for our correct order. I noticed that this happened to other tables nearby too.
My husband and I were directed to The Kettle by our hotel staff when we were looking for a decent dinner at 10PM. After a long drive, we were hungry, as we hadn't stopped to eat on the way. Anyway, when we arrived, it was just after 10PM on a Friday night. Though the area was bustling, we were able to find easy street parking less than a block away. The restaurant was busy, but there were plenty of open tables. The place had a bit of the old diner type of vibe, but it was definitely more upscale and modern. We were greeted and seated right away. As we sat down, I saw some of the food being brought out and everything looked great. The menu was quite vast, so it took some time to decide. We decided to start out with the California Tots. They were a huge plate of crispy tots with cheese sauce, bacon and lots of other toppings. It was probably enough for us to share for dinner. However, I then had my mind set on the Tuna Manhattan, which was sort of a fancy tuna melt. The offered a regular tuna melt (off menu) if I preferred. The Tuna Manhattan was served on a bun with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a huge slice of avocado. It came with a side salad, fries, or soup. They also offered me some other sides I could substitute as well, such as onion rings or sweet potato fries. When I asked about the soup selection, they gave me four I could choose from. I ordered the French Onion. Anyway, the portions were generous and everything was delicious. It was also a great value for the amount and quality of food. The Kettle is open 24 hours. If you ever want late night (or anytime) eats in Manhattan Beach, I highly recommend The Kettle for a good solid meal.
As good as it's always been! We were in Manhattan Beach for the holiday firework show on the pier and came here after. We've been coming here for many years and the food here is consistently great! - and they are open till midnight if you are in the area and hungry late night. I got the Braised Pot Roast Dip (upgraded to a melt which adds melted provolone cheese - $19.95) which is their delicious pot roast with caramelized onion jam, horseradish mayo & au jus on a French roll. For my side (and I always recommend this at the Kettle) I get the French onion soup. The French onion here is to die for and is honestly dream worthy! The braised pot roast dip was also incredible as usual. Glad we chose to come here tonight!
Sunday lunch yesterday lacked the excellence of past visits. I can excuse the long wait for service once we were seated. The waitress seemed to have a scowl or attitude that was not welcoming. But then she might have been really tired or busy. I ordered the Patty melt which came with a choice of soup, salad, etc. I chose the French Onion soup. I've had it there many times in the past. And I asked for it (cup) to be upgraded to a bowl. When it came it looked good ... until I peered under the block of cheese and realized the "soup" was 99% broth with a few onions and a tiny piece of bread. It was ridiculous. The waiter could have given me a straw rather than a soup spoon. The Patty Melt also tasted great but had really poor presentation. It looked really unappetizing. Maybe I'm just being picky but it looked like meat in burned rye bread. But like I said it tasted very good. We were seated in a booth by the entrance door. Customers crowded in the area draping their arms down the inside of the booth hitting my guest in the head several times. I had to ask the cashier to please not permit crowding inside the entrance as there's a waiting area outside. No one asked how I liked my meal so I didn't say anything about the soup - which was a big time waste. Next time I'm there if a similar situation happens (if I order French Onion soup) I will complain.

Food This place is a local classic and a favorite of many people, and I got a classic country fried steak which is my usual go to brunch order. The actual food itself is a classic type of food, nothing trendy or over the top but you get what you order, which to be honest, isn't a bad thing and I like how their simple their food is. The actual steak wasn't bad, good texture on it crunch on the outside but still kinda tender steak that was cooked well, comes with well seasoned potatoes and eggs. The rest of my party got a burrito and some pancakes and there were pretty good as well and I would say reliable flavors that you know. My order came with a choice of pastry as well and I got a coffee and for me this was the higlight. Warm, fluffy, flavorful, everything that you'd want in a pastry accompanied by steak and eggs, definitely worth coming back to for the coffee cake alone Service/Ambiance For a sunday brunch, our party of 4 was seated pretty much right away but even if you had to wait, the front entrance had complimentary coffee and bread as well. The staff was nice and I liked the overall vibe of the restaurant. Service was relatively quick as well.

Parking: There is parking at the Metlox Parking lot. http://metloxmb.com/ You can park for 3 hours at $2.50 hour or you can park at the lower level for up to 10 hours at the same rate. There is also street parking (max 2 hours). Food: We ordered Eggs Benedict 10/10, Pot Roast Benedict 9/10, Country Fried Steak 10/10. I ordered the bran muffin 10/10. The coffee was very good too. Ambiance: They have indoor/outdoor seating. They have booths and tables. They have a long bar area with stools to sit on. Service; It was prompt. You can eat here and walk two blocks to the pier. It is a very good location. I would return.
Food wasn't the greatest the prices have gone up so not worth going there anymore. My bread on my sandwich was basically burned. Everything we pretty much ordered was mediocre. This place Russ tj be good and always busy. It's now empty. That should tell you something.
Late night dinner and a friend told us to come to the Kettle . . We were seated outside which was nice to see the night life! We had the crab sandwich, French dip and salmon sandwich! Food was delicious and came out fast! Service is super friendly!
Back in the 90s and 2000s, I'd find myself here after bar hopping / clubbing on many late evenings enjoying a good meal. Really happy The Kettle is still open as many long time establishments in the area have closed down. This time, I brought my wife and kids here and as usual, the food did not disappoint. Our hostess was very patient and attentive. Kids were overwhelmed with all the choices to eat and they couldn't decide right away. Once they picked, the food came out rather quickly and it was more than enough to satisfy that they boxed up their leftovers. Everyone loved the vibe of the restaurant - warm and cozy.

This is an adorable diner I've been coming to regularly. Usually on weeknights when there's less crowd. Today I tried something different--the crab melt. Crab cake was exceptional. Topped with pimento cheese. Though the vegetables (onions, cucumber, tomato) were largely unnecessary since they didn't enhance the sandwich. They were just there to make sure I ate my veggies. Overall, thus is a great diner for location and ambience. Comparing food alone, there's better in LA. read more
The service here was excellent. Even though the line was pretty long when we arrived, they turned tables quickly and we were seated in about 15 minutes. It's also very kid-friendly--they provided a high chair and even gave my little one a small toy, which was such a thoughtful touch. Ordering was easy, and our food came out quickly. The food, however, was just okay. The Banana French Toast was way too sweet--it was covered in syrup. I expected the banana to be incorporated into the toast, but it was really just a few slices on top. It ended up being overly rich, and I could only manage a few bites. There were also quite a few flies buzzing around our table during the meal, which definitely took away from the experience. read more
Met an old friend up here last minute, and since I had already eaten a short time ago all I went for was a coffee. The CSA (CUSTOMER SERVICE ALL-STAR) of this experience was Melissa-pictured. Absolutely must try! I sat outside to the cool breeze and view of the ocean. Enjoyed a mimosa, coffee and also a blackened salmon sandwich, all were excellent! And to top it off the service was 10/10. This will be a new go to spot! read more

A friend and I came late on a Wednesday and we both enjoyed the porto burger with grilled pineapple! It definitely hit the spot. The restaurant was quite busy and the sun had just set over the water. Locally world famous (for a good reason), this establishment is not only a family run local fave, it's a SoCal icon. Ever since 1973, their motto's been, "love all people and cook 'em tasty food." Yep, it was all very tasty, and so I'm giving back some of that love in this review. ** PARKING ** About a year ago, I got a ticket for not having a front license plate on my car (it was reduced to $10 with proof of front plates at MB City Hall). Without this twist of parking ticket fate, we wouldn't have stumbled upon The Kettle. Incidentally, parking is ample in this area, but it's manly metered/ticketed garages. Just keep in mind, that on Tuesdays, the streets are more packed with Farmer's Market vendors. ** SERVICE ** Service was casual & friendly yet attentive. And the food came out faster than it took us to decide what to order. My indecision was in check that morning so our server lucked out. The menu offers so many great options like guava juice (or apple, or OJ, or tomato, or cranberry) to "The Breakfast Club" meals. And if you get a sandwich or burger, I highly recommend trying their homemade soup. ** FRENCH MARKET ONION SOUP ** Let comfort feed your soul with a bowl of their soup. One of their most popular items on the menu, it's topped with a thick layer of parmesan garlic toast and melted mozzarella & Swiss cheese. A side of it was enough for me, but for major cheesemongers, I suggest a full bowl. It came with their honey bran muffin, which was also filling & tasty. Everything here is made from scratch. From what I sampled, it also tastes like grandma's cooking...well, someone's grandma's cooking. Or baking. Those "house made" muffins (in your choice of honey bran, carrot raisin, blueberry crumb, orange zest, coffee cake, or banana nut) smell heavenly. And they're served warm (if you ask) with every salad, omelette, and dinner entrée. ** POT ROAST BENEDICT ** Apparently, the other menu item that they're well known for is the Pot Roast. Since it was still technically breakfast time, I chose the poached eggs over slowly braised pot roast, on top of parmesan garlic French bread. The orange cilantro hollandaise was a nice balance to my meat + potatoes spread. There's also several options for Cage-Free Eggs & Omelettes for breakfasts and real stick-to-your-ribs choices for supper. The apps, classic salads, juicy burgers, and greasy spoon sandwiches looked good at neighboring tables. For night owls and bioluminescence chasers, The Kettle is open all night long on Fridays & Saturdays. So you can have breakfast for supper and banana nut pancakes for a midnight snack. The vibe is comfy, casual, and welcoming, starting at the front entrance. ** UNDER 9 & OVER 90 ** Saw this on the menu and loved the humor. I wonder if your mental age counts ;) read more

November 20, 2025 | Manhattan Beach | I wanted try someplace new for breakfast! The Kettle caught my eye as I was reading an article! What an impressive restaurant w/top of the line customer service & quite the tasty breakfast! The Kettle Breakfast | One fluffy & tasty scrambled egg, flavorful Breakfast Potatoes & a choice of toast or a freshly baked muffin! Yes to the absolutely delicious orange muffin! I highly recommend! Portions are huge as well! My friend enjoyed his meal as well! Customer Service | One of a kind, genuine warmth which shines from the inside out & quite attentive! The nice warm welcome we received the moment we opened the door, throughout & even as we were leaving was heartwarming! Everyone we encountered definitely knows Excellent customer service, included with a warm smile! Thanks again to our fabulous main server, Laura and also, Donette! Customer service will leave you feeling like you have been friends forever! Decor | I love the cozy burgundy booths, chandeliers hanging gracefully from the ceiling and large wooden tables, complete w/a fresh red rose inside of a wine bottle! Super cute! I love flowers! Outside | Cheers to the holidays! Holiday decorations are in full swing here! The building is festive, as it's adorned with large wreaths w/red ribbons and others w/colorful ornaments! Cheerful white flowers are near the door, as well as pumpkins & the warm glow of the lanterns, while the black Kettle relaxes proudly as part of the sign! Parking | We parked at a Meter; $2.50 an hour! Overall | Absolutely, yes! I'll be back! Two of us got seated right away on an early Saturday afternoon. We sat on the patio and it was great to feel the fresh air and people watch. Service was great and the food came out so quick! We ordered the breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich, and banana pancakes. The portions were great and the taste was fresh and flavorful. There's paid parking all around the restaurant so you won't have a problem finding parking. read more
The Kettle in Manhattan Beach is an excellent spot to share a bite to eat. It has a very homey feel to it which makes it so cozy and inviting. Its location can make it tricky to find free parking, but there are lots of metered parking and paid parking lots nearby for pretty cheap. We were sat right away, the staff were all very friendly, and our food came quickly. I got the pulled pork quesadilla and my friend got the kettle burger with fries which we split so we could both try each meal. It was so much food I had lots of leftovers which was great. The fries were super crispy on the outside which I love and the quesadilla was very unique and tasty. This is a great spot for all occasions and near the pier which is very scenic. read more

Food was great, live the mustard sauce! Also appreciate the hours for this location was able to wind down with friends after a night out. Our server Taylor was an absolute gem! I had no idea The Kettle was open 24/7! I've probably walked by this place a million times and didn't have the chance to check it out, but I'm so glad I finally did! Such a little gem, this place has delicious food and a great little vibe too! The service was fast and friendly. Wonderful restaurant. Checked off all the things I look for. Great location in Manhattan Beach. We ate there on Friday at noon. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with beautiful decor outside. My friend and I were very impressed. Stephanie was our waitress and she was super nice and attentive to our drink refills and overall stay. Jeff, I believe the manager, was also very nice. We had a nice chat before we left. We ordered two dishes. 1. The kettle burger. This was outstanding and made perfect. I ordered it with swiss cheese, and it came with onions, tomatoes, pickles, and I believe 1000 island dressing. Fries and iced tea. Delicious and extremely filling. 2. Braised pot roast dip which was a sandwich that came with caramelized onion, cheese, on a French baguette. She loved it. We were very happy customers and will go back when we get to Manhattan Beach again. Thank you. read more
I come here for their legendary french onion soup, but always end up trying additional items. Tonight I went with Southbay Crab Melt and it truly hit the spot. The blue crab patty was super tasty, very fresh, slightly crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The taste of crab was felt in every bite. The patty was covered by the warm pimento cheese and topped with fresh cucumbers, tomatoes and onions. All of that was beautifully placed inside of a grilled brioche bun. The combination is truly delicious for those who like seafood. The energy in this place is great and homey, plenty of seating inside, with a clean beautiful design. The service is consistently good. When this place was explained to me before we stopped here I wasn't sure what to expect or what it actually was. What I do know was that I was not told about where we were going or what they had like it was some kind of big secret. Then I saw the giant kettle with the red lettering over the horizon as we created the hill down towards the beach, and I was immediately excited! What was this place? I still had no inkling of what they served, but I knew it was incredibly interesting looking and the only information I was given was that my wife loved Manhattan Beach and used to come to The Kettle frequently...I did not know walking up to the doors that this would become my favorite restaurant that we stopped at on our entire trip, and I'm constantly wishing daily that I could drop back in for one more bite. My first impression was that The Kettle is like a diner, but it is soooooo much more! From the ambiance to the people, to the downright elevated and delicious food and wide menu, I can't say enough about how much this place takes it to the top. I had such a hard time deciding what to order that eventually we decided to split a Cuban sandwich because if I didn't just compromise and go along with some suggestion, I would've been sitting staring for an hour. The kitchen is just behind a classic-stooled bar coffee counter and the sounds and scents of the food cooking permeate the air throughout the whole place, giving a wonderful feel to your visit. Everyone was satisfied and ended up ordering vastly different things off the menu. Oh, and did I mention they are open late??? Ultimately, I also had the French onion soup...and this was where The Kettle truly captured my heart. If you have read any of my other reviews, you will know I am a rabid soup fanatic. Not only was this my favorite food experience while we were in California, this was by far, the best French onion soup I have ever had in my entire life--and I have had A LOT of French onion soup. It wasn't overdone and it wasn't understated. Everything about it was perfect, and obviously painstakingly made from scratch. Savory and delicious with the right amount of bread to cheese to broth, unmatched in its complex simplicity. If I lived nearby, I would come here at least weekly for this soup on top of all the other wonderful food. From what I can gather, The Kettle is a Manhattan Beach staple. The people who have grown up here and live here all know it and most that I spoke to seem to love it, and with good cause. If you happen to be passing through or visiting any time soon, do not pass by the bright red kettle lit on the main corner in town, and stop in to have some soup or any other diner staple you have come to love over the years...or even some totally unique fusion or specialty dish you wouldn't expect to find in that setting. The Kettle is definitely a staple for my family because of the variety of options on the menu and the amazing view that the beach has to offer! The wait can be overly long along with parking being a bit of a distance sometimes because of the limited parking on the streets. I appreciate how consistent this place is, especially the muffins and tater tots as they are truly yummy. I do wish the pancakes were better as they are one of my favorite foods but on multiple occasions, it's been well done and hard on the top which is not something I enjoy. But all in all, the service is mainly helpful and I'm glad restaurants like this exist. read more

We really enjoy this café! Since we live nearby, it has become a little family tradition for us to come here on Saturdays. The atmosphere is very pleasant, cozy, and welcoming a great place to relax and enjoy a good breakfast. The food and service are always consistent, which keeps us coming back. Another big plus is the location it's right near the beach, so after breakfast you can take a nice walk and head over to the pier. It makes the whole experience even better. Definitely one of our favorite local spots. read more

Ordered: Oeufs Pain Perdu (~$17): two eggs, chicken sausage, breakfast potatoes, & French toast stuffed with cream cheese and orange marmalade; comes with juice (my choice was guava) House Made Carrot Raisin Muffin (~$5) Aya's take: I haven't been to a diner in as long as I can remember! It was my first time in Manhattan Beach and I was in the mood for a simple breakfast so The Kettle seemed like a great choice. We were a party of 5 and were able to get seated almost immediately at noon on a Sunday! As someone who loves having a sweet & savory combination for brunch, the Oeufs Pain Perdu stood out! The two eggs, chicken sausage, and breakfast potatoes are classic breakfast items and were all cooked perfectly. The French toast stuffed with cream cheese and orange marmalade was so unique, quite dense from the cream cheese, and a good mix of sweet and tart. I also like that the entree comes with juice. The guava was delicious but they give you such a small glass! I needed double that amount lol. We also tried the House Made Carrot Raisin Muffin. It's pretty balanced, not too sweet, but slightly burnt. I had higher expectations for it but outside of the butter which added a nice creamy texture, it was hard to really taste the carrot raisin. Great foodie spot! Ambiance was cool and it's all about the location on the corner-few minute walk to the beach/pier! We loved sitting outside in the patio. Shared the spinach & artichoke dip-delicious! Order the blackberry lemonade, so good! I enjoyed my Pulled Chicken Cobb salad-ask for it tossed! (Don't forget to ask for your muffin at the end cos it is included!) Hubby ordered the Braised Pot Roast-also really good! Seeing as my original review was 17 something years ago, I figured it was time for an update. This place still rocks as an all-night diner, a dying breed in Southern California. Their breakfast, especially both types of sausage, still hits as much as ever. And even though their giant muffins are no more, I'd still choose this joint to break my fast any day. And what with Uncle Bill's just up the street, this locale is a 1-2 punch of first meal excellence. The staff is still as stellar as ever. They managed to fill mine ahh Toby's coffee cup a combined 10-11 times, which must be some kind of record. This is one of the few places that anticipates your needs--drink refills, extra plate, more napkins, &c... you name it. That too is rare these days. And as always, I love the space. We agreed that the open dining room combined with all those windows just gives the impression this is a lively and jumping place to eat, and not some dark corner to hide away in. I still love it here, no matter the time of the day. read more

Sunday through Thursday, they are open 5am - Midnight. Friday and Saturday, they are open 24h.

Hi April! We only allow service dogs in the restaurant and on the patio. You are welcome to tie your dog up in our outdoor waiting area adjacent to the patio though. We provide water and shade :)
