I went to Nick's Manhattan Beach with a friend on February 1, 2020, and then again with my mom on August 23, 2020. I remember the Cioppino was absolutely delicious, and everything else we ordered was amazing too. I also loved the atmosphere here. It had such a great vibe, and everyone was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Found this gem on accident while strolling along manhattan beach. We sat at the bar to avoid the wait and it was a great choice! The bartender was quick to greet us and he was very kind. His espresso martini was so delicious! It was my first time trying one and it did not disappoint. My partner and I had the crispy rice with spicy tuna and the shrimp taquitos, while on the pricier side it is definitely worth it. The spicy tuna crispy rice was so rich in flavor, and the crispy rice truly was crispy. The shrimp taquitos were unlike anything i've tried before! I was expecting some classic taquitos filled with shrimp but this place really goes above and beyond with this dish. The shrimps were wrapped (as you can see in the photo) and it was so good!! I definitely plan on coming back if i'm ever in the area. The ambience of this place is beautiful too, we came during the day but I really want to see how it is at night. I first fell in love with this place for their hearty, spicy cioppino served with fresh baked sourbread round. The last couple of times I ordered this was disappointing though. Too salty and just didn't hit the spot. Not sure if there is a new cook or they changed anything with the recipe, but I don't order it anymore. The other food items are decent and I would visit here again on occassion as it is a solid dinner choice. It's okay with kids. Not a huge restaurant inside, but they also have outdoor covered seating as well for better weather months. Parking: Attached parking structure with pay meters. Street parking. Nearby multi-story lot with pay meters. Can be a bit busy on weekends around here so best to time your visit accordingly if possible. read more

Our recent visit was spectacular. We started with the asparagus fries and spicy tuna on crispy rice. Both appetizers were phenomenal. The asparagus fries were perfectly crispy. The tuna tartare was fresh and beautifully prepared. The sea bass was cooked flawlessly. It was incredibly tender and delicious. We also shared Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni. The red vodka sauce had a great kick. The Jalapeño Watermelon Margarita was amazing. It had the ideal mix of sweet and heat. It is a must-try drink! The service truly stood out. Nick's Manhattan Beach will always hold a special place in our family's heart. In August 2025, I made a dinner reservation at Nick's because my parents were visiting from out-of-town and we had some exciting news to announce: we were pregnant with our first baby! :) On the reservation, I noted this, and didn't expect much. The day of the reservation, the host manager called to confirm that we wanted to share the news at dessert, and if there were any other accommodations we needed, which was very sweet. When we arrived at our table, they had a card signed by staff congratulating us, and it was a night to remember. Great food, great service, and the warm hand towels after my dad demolished the baby back ribs were the cherry on top! Our group also ordered the chilean sea bass, salmon, and bistro plate. 10/10. One of our final meals as a family of two was Valentine's Day 2026. It was our first time being seated indoors, and the ambiance was dim and romantic. The meatloaf special was fantastic! Fast forward to June 2026, and we brought our 3-month-old son to his first NIck's meal (unfortunately, he could not partake) and to celebrate my husband's first Father's Day. On this reservation, I put in a request for outdoor seating that gave us enough room to park our stroller and car seat, and they were able to accommodate that. They were also understanding when me and my husband were running a few minutes past our reservation time due to fhe baby, and we appreciated the flexibility. Noise level was moderate, but definitely quieter outside. If you get nothing else from this review, just remember this: ORDER THE WARM BUTTER CAKE. YOU WILL NEVER REGRET IT. Dinner at Nick's Manhattan Beach was such a great experience. I ordered the fish sandwich and it was absolutely delicious--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Around the table, my group had the Cuban sandwich and the steak & baked potato pie, and everyone was really happy with their dishes. We started with appetizers and shared the spinach dip and shrimp taquitos, both of which were great starters and easy to share. I was hoping to try one of the pasta dishes, but they were all out--which honestly just tells you how popular they must be. Definitely gives me a reason to come back. The ambiance was one of my favorite parts: dark, cozy, and warm with a really nice vibe. Service was attentive and pleasant without being overbearing, which made for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. Parking tip for future visits: we initially parked down the street, but realized there's a lot directly across from the restaurant, which is super convenient. What a great, upscale restaurant a block away from the beach. There's plenty of parking and it's free right now for Christmas. There's lots of delicious food options and the bar happy hour was great too. We sat out on the patio and the heaters were on above us so it was a little toasty. My ribs were delicious and I loved the kale salad that came with them. The butter cake melted in my mouth. Not cheap ( $38 for ribs and $18 for a glass of wine). Wait staff were very attentive and were constantly coming to our table to refill water glasses and pick up empty dishes. Great social place to get together with friends. read more

Disappointed by last experience at Nick's. A restaurant that we have gone to many times for business and pleasure in Manhattan Beach and Carlsbad! The consistency in food quality is lacking! This was evident during our last visit to the Manhattan Beach Restaurant. My husband I stopped in late afternoon to grab some refreshments and a meal at the bar. As always the service at the bar for drinks was excellent: especially the bar back. A very hard working women who loves her job. Our experience with food and service was another story. We started out with appetizers: decided to try something new....the bear offered several sushi options so chose to try this over our standard asparagus appetizer. When it took approximately 30 minutes to get sushi we knew something was wrong. Our second clue was when the wait staff was avoiding us until somebody finally approached us and said sorry, we need to make the sushi again. After hearing this I was second guessing our option... especially after 30 minutes. Note restaurant was empty when we ordered. We finally received our sushi and the shrimp inside was minimal, almost a joke and over fried and cooked. The sushi texture was tough and frankly the order was not edible. We had to send it back. We also order a steak and the infamous stuff potato. The steak was ok but I think the quality of cut was different than I remember. The potato was a bit too salty for me: I know there's always a salt coating on the outside but seems to be overpowering. Also I was sad to hear my Bees Knee drink was taken off the money. This is a classic drink. This restaurant made it perfectly with its fresh juices! I was told to mention this to corporate. With an experience like this: and given there is a lot of like restaurants to Nick's we may choose to spend our money elsewhere where we can expect consistent food quality. read more

Came here around lunch weekday and was not busy. Was seated and got food pretty quickly. Service was good. List of food we tried recently and in the past. 1. Pan seared salmon. My go to dish. Salmon is tender and not dry. Like the tartness on the spinach and the creamy potatoes 2. Blue crab crispy roll: okay... Wouldn't get it again 3. Chicken lemon piccata: tasted better when I had dine in but was not good with take out. not as flavorful and a bit dry. 4. Cheeseburger: solid but not anything special 5. Asparagus fries: good but too pricy. 6. Bistro plate: what's not to like. Trio of a nice steak with soup/salad to make a balance meal, great! 7. Extremely disappointing experience I went to this restaurant this evening and, as soon as we were seated, I made it very clear that I have celiac disease and need to avoid bread and gluten. I found two items on the menu that sounded great, including the prime rib melt, and asked if it could simply be served without the bread. I was more than willing to pay the full price--I just needed the bread omitted. Our waitress was actually very kind and attentive. She explained that the chef would not allow the sandwich to be served without bread because it would affect the "presentation". I told her I truly did not care about the presentation. With celiac disease, my food options are already extremely limited, and I was simply asking for a reasonable accommodation. Unfortunately, she told me the chef would not permit it. I then asked if I could speak with the manager. Jordan came to the table, and instead of showing even a little understanding or compassion for someone with a dietary restriction, her response came across as extremely cold, dismissive, and snippy. The five other people at our table were equally shocked by her attitude and the way the situation was handled. I completely understand that a restaurant may have limitations on what it can safely prepare. What I don't understand is the lack of basic courtesy and customer service. I wasn't asking for something complicated or unreasonable. I was asking for the bread to be left off a sandwich. I didn't need a special dish, a discount, or a favor. I was willing to pay full price. The chef might want to remind himself that this isn't a Michelin-star restaurant where presentation should take priority over accommodating a paying customer with a legitimate medical dietary restriction. Sometimes it's better to simply ask, "How can we make this work for you?" Instead, this restaurant lost my business tonight--and unfortunately, they also lost the business of the two other couples who were dining with us. We were genuinely shocked by the way we were treated. I will not be returning, and I would strongly encourage management to reconsider how they handle guests with food allergies and dietary restrictions. The food was decent, (my husband's meal came out a full 15 minutes after we were all served), no meal is worth being treated that way. Hope the Cook, (real Chef's can pivot and still create a nice "presentation") understands he lost six customers over two slices of bread. IF YOU HAVE ANY DIETARY ISSUES, DO NOT GO HERE! We had a reservation last night for my friend's birthday at 7 pm that we made two weeks ago. We arrived right on time and were told that we were checked in. At 7:20, my husband went to check on the reservation and we were finally seated at about 7:30-30 minutes late and outside where we needed the heat lamps because it was getting cold. We were alson seated next to a party of 6 who were so loud the entire night. When we checked in, I reminded the hostess that it was my friend's birthday that we were celebrating. We ordered drinks and waited another 20 minutes for them. So far, the service wnet down a couple of stars in my book. We started off with a Caesar Salad that was nothing special. For entrees, I had the buttermilk boneless chicken breast with a biscuit, and rather bland mashed potatoes, and thick white gravy which I'm glad I ordered on the side. The chicken was very good. as was the biscuit, but the gravy was definitely not my thing. They were out of the French Dip sandwich so my husband got the Prime Rib Sandwich. I really liked the bread with cheese that it came on and he seemed to enjoy it. We also had the ribs and the salmon. Our server, totally forgot the dessert for my friend's birthday, even though the hostess had written it down and my husband had to find the server and remind him. The dessert was a small chocolate cake that my friend liked. All in all, I would gve a 4 for the food but a 2 for the service and the ambience. Great first visit. We were in the area and stopped in- I'm glad we did! Excellent service from Connor, he was attentive and helpful. We had a Dirty Martini and an iced tea. Food wise we had: Shrimp Taquitos- large shrimp and tasty. Spicy tuna rolls- freshly made and delicious The SF Cioppino- tomato base and delicious with shrimp clams and halibut. Large bowl was $38. Nick's Manhattan Beach was a perfect choice for our grown ups only lunch with my husband's family. Parking was crazy during the time we went around 2pm. We were driving around for 15 minutes trying to find parking. Funny enough, we finally snagged a space in the parking lot across from Nick's. 2 hour metered parking limit. Ugh. We had a reservation for 10 guests. They sat us at a big round table on the patio. Adeli was our lovely server and she was very sweet and attentive for the duration of our dining experience. Amazing service. The menu looked so good. Everything was pricey, especially considering it was only lunch time. But this is a nice restaurant too so the prices don't really shock me either. I opted for the Chicken Katsu Salad. The salad had Chicken Katsu, mango, heirloom tomatoes, red peppers, crispy carrots, serrano peppers, peanuts, napa cabbage, arugula, asian cilantro dressing. Yummy! I was super happy with my choice because the presentation was on point but more importantly, all the flavors complimented each other. The textures of this salad were on point. Chicken Katsu was fresh and crispy and was a nice touch to the salad all in all. The Blackened Fish Sandwich was a popular item. I almost ordered that too but all the salads looked unique and tasty. Prime Rib Dip Sandwich looked appealing too as I'm a big fan of French Dip sandwiches all in all. It was a nice day out with the grown ups and no kids. Nick's was the perfect spot with delicious food, good drinks, great service and the whole vibe/ambiance. I would highly recommend this spot for a nice meal. DO IT!!! read more

Dinner was supposed to be a casual burger spot. Turns out we accidentally walked into a fancy restaurant where we were wildly underdressed and carrying enough beach sand to start our own dune ecosystem. But honestly? The food was ok but we were hungry. My one kids happily devoured chicken fingers while the other somehow ate my entire Chilean sea bass. I may have gotten two bites. We also had to threaten "NO DESSERT" unless they ate their spinach melody. Miraculously, parenting worked for once. The people at the restaurant were really nice and friendly. We didn't have to wait too long. The ambience was really nice. We were sitting on the porch, but the heater was going on so I was actually not too bad restaurant was fully booked. it seemed like a lot of people were there. We also had the French dip would not recommend that for a future time. I saw the ribs. I wish I seen those earlier. The ribs looked really good, but did not get a chance to eat them I kind of wish that they had some bread or some type of chips cause I feel like that type of environment at the beginning. read more

Really nice spot with great vibes -- the atmosphere alone makes it worth the visit. Service is impeccable, almost a bit too attentive at times, but always friendly and professional. There is an outdoor patio too, which seemed heated. We ordered a few drinks and they tasted great, though they were a little on the lighter side. Definitely try the margarita. We also shared the artichoke dip, which was really good and a perfect appetizer. Arrived 1 minute after the grace period of 15 minutes and they gave my table away. You need to call the restaurant and let them know that you can't find a place to park in MB! I waited another 15 minutes for a table to leave. Not a great start. The menu looked so familiar- I feel the essence of Hillstone or R and D Kitchen...Ordered the prime rib dip sandwich and the Thai noodle salad. Both were excellent. Prime rib was rare which I love. However I wish the French fries were shoestring since I don't like thick fries, but they had the spicy mayo... Service - food. We were in town to celebrate our twins' 25th birthdays and my daughter recommended Nick's. We had a fantastic experience start to finish. The hosts up front were friendly and personable. Our server, Raquel, was lovely and on top of things. I had what I think is the best Mai Tai I've ever had, even while in Hawaii! Just delicious. We enjoyed the fried asparagus and bacon deviled eggs as our appetizer. The buttermilk fried chicken, crispy chicken sandwich and the ribeye melt were really good, but I am STILL thinking about how incredible Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni was. So incredibly creamy, and full of flavor, with just the right amount of heat. My daughter orders this every time it's on a menu, and this is by far the best I've ever tasted. SO good. We had mentioned we were celebrating our twins' birthday, and they were served two lovely pieces of chocolate cake with a candle, AND a card for each of them signed by the staff. Never have I experienced that before for a birthday in a restaurant! Just a great touch. I am SO glad my daughter suggested we go here, and every time we're in town we will return. Came here for a date night on Saturday with a reservation. Highly recommend a reservation since it tends to get really busy. Half of the restaurant is outside FYI. Overall great service and food. The place was nice it was a little smaller than the Nick's I normally would go to(South of Nick's in San Clemente). But they didn't skimp on the ambiance of the place. It would make a great date night spot. Since it was my first time to Manhattan Beach I didn't know that Parking is Metered every where close to the restaurant untill after 9pm most places its 6pm. Now the restaurant did seat us within 45mins of walking in which was good because it was a last-minute meetup with family from New Orleans and we didn't have reservations. Once we were done eating we moved to a bar top and watch the Dodgers winning the World Series. The food is where they lose the one star. It wasn't bad tasting or that it came out cold. It just tasted like it was slapped together. We went on the waiters recommendation after he hit it out the park with the appetizer suggestion. Plus we only had one dietary concern, no pork! So he said the Shrimp Taquitos as our shareable which was awesome. Then he suggested the Sea Bass and the buttermilk fried Checken with Smashed Potatoes and Crispy Chicken Sandwich. So the Sea Bass was Mid at best. The Buttermilk Chicken was a hit but you can tell that the potatoes were either just nuked in a microwave or it was under a heating lamp for a minute because no matter how much butter and pepper we put in it, ther wasn't much pop to it. The Crispy Chicken Sandwich is the other reason for the minus one star. I should have just sent it back instead of trying to be not rude. Plus not to embarrass my family because this place was my idea. I just removed the toppings at the table. I knocked everything that came on that Sandwich off except for the herb mayo and the tomatoes and the arugula. Which made it OK. I also had the Smashed Potatoes too. Now the Alcohol was right, whomever the bartender was hats off to you sir. Plus they use the Mexican Coke so that was also a nice touch. Also the Men's bathroom was immaculate good job. So with Food, TIP, 2 drinks for 3 ppl its was $220. Sorry didn't take photos of the others food they had already started digging in. In the future i may give them another shot if someone else is paying. Until then I'll still explore the Manhattan Beach area and just stick to my usual Nick's location. read more

Nick's is a very nice MB restaurant that has a good variety of offerings. As a vegan it's always difficult going out to eat so, when necessary, I'll make an exception for some cheese. I would say you could pretty easily eat vegan here. I had the house-made veggie burger that comes with Swiss cheese (but requested no cheese) and fries. It's very good and quite filling. They do also have some good sounding salads which I'll try next time. I had to try the non- vegan asparagus fries which a pretty yummy. Nice cocktails and hard to choose from the drink list! They also serve coke in a bottle which was a treat! The service was above average and I enjoyed the elegant yet casual ambiance of the restaurant which is very Manhattan Beach, so a tad bougie in a nice way. Thankfully, parking is easy with public parking near this location. I recommend! read more

We had an enjoyable lunch at Nick's in manhattan beach on a Saturday morning. Service was great. Coffee was cold, so the had to brew a new batch for us. I tried the fish sandwich. It was ok 3.5/5. Nothing to write home about. I also tried a bit a the chicken katsu salad. 4/5. To much going on in it. Way too many mangoes. The spicy tuna crispy rice appy was decent but not sure if it was worth $19. All in all not bad but I think there are better options in the area. read more
