This is another one of my all time favorite restaurant and bar in beautiful Manhattan Beach. This is a multi level restaurant with plenty of indoor and outside seating and fantastic views of the pier and the ocean. Make sure you come here during sunset in the winter time were you probably going to witness one of the nicest sunsets along the beautiful California beach. Now coming to the bar and restaurant itself it probably serves one of the best cocktails in town ans for sure the freshest and best tasting seafood in MB. One of my favorite is the Spanish Grilled Octopus and the Oysters on the appetizer menu. I also recommend their salmon or grilled chicken on the main menu. If you want to keep it simple there is a decent selection if house pizza with a nice selection of wines, draft and bottled beers plus their outstanding cocktails. Please make sure to reserve a table if you're planning to go there after 5 pm or otherwise spent time at either the lower bar area or the smaller bar on the upper level. Servers were on top of it. Great location for people watching and seeing the ocean. We had a few old fashions for drinks and the were well balanced and super delicious. Great place to hang out and pretty people here too doesn't hurt. Bravo read more

First time here and can't be more happy with our choice to hangout here before dinner. My espresso martini was perrrfect! It's the best one I ever had and my husband's corona was chilled to perfection. The server was nice and hot our drinks to us really fast despite being extremely busy. Love it! read more

I've only been here on weekend nights at the bar area and you can always expect a mix crowd here. You can get some folks that are dressed to the nines like they just got out of a fancy dinner, some that just want to party in clubbing attire, and some that looks like they put minimal effort since they live in a beach area. Bartenders work fast and efficiently. Music can get a bit loud so if you want to have a conversation gonna be a bit tough! Haven't stopped by for the food so definitely will one day to get the full experience. read more

This is one of my favorite spots for taking out of town guests looking for an upscale, beach vibe and ocean view, complemented by cocktails and appetizers. It's got a lounge feel with long sofa style benches. The music is loud and it's usually a party atmosphere, but with an older (30s to early 50s crowd). The food is just average for the price, but the ambiance is what you're there for anyway. It's loud and lively in a good way, making it a good spot for girls night out or birthday celebration. Now, for the crowd. I'd call it South Bay basic -- there's nothing indie or hip about it. It seems to attract a happy, pretty crowd that likes to dress up and throw back a few. read more

Location, location, location! This place has an unobstructed view of the mighty Pacific Ocean and Manhattan Beach pier from dining and bar area. Pretty cool place to have food & drinks.. When you visit Manhattan Beach neighborhood, you will realize you have a dozen blocks of restaurants and bars to pick from. And apparently Ranked # 1 in 2011 for rich and single by CNN money. I stopped by for a few beverages at the bar. Sampled their cocktails ($12-$16) and spoke with a few locals and bar staff. Kitchen closed before 10 which seemed early, guess the restaurant was not busy that night. I came in on a Wed around 9 and the bar area started picking up by 10:30. Overall place had a good vibe, couches available by the windows, great views, and good service overall. I give a 3.65 rating. read more

Great dining experience ..came here with friends for dinner .Very friendly staffs ,great service and the view of the beautiful sunset ..We ordered 2 butternut squash soup( so good )and 1 beet and persimmon salad -another winner.We also ordered the Branzino , striped bass and braised beef short rib...Both fish dishes were done perfectly,the short rib was a little bit dry for my taste.very yummy and good portion size .We will definitely come back for more . read more

Oh The Strand...what can I say? The bolognese was quite exquisite. The sauce was very flavorful and perfectly poured over the al dente pasta like a boss! I'm grateful I only got the appetizer portion. Hmph and Andrew thought it wasn't going to be enough for me. Lol My server, Andrew (I think) was great. He was attentive and suggestive. I think I saw the manager more than the server. I'm glad he was visible though. You don't see hide nor hair from most managers. He was tall and blue eyes (if that helps lol)--attentive as well. I loved the ambience, the view of the water, the customer service and the food. Good job Strand! Keep it up. I'll be back! P.S. Get the fries yall--to die for! read more

The Strand House is very well done, a great use of the space.  Main eating area that looks over the beach, a larger bar downstairs and a smaller one with great views upstairs.  Food is good, service is better, especially at the bar.  Bar back includes bottle shelves and a couple HDTVs.  Strong pours and a large enough beer list to make most happy.  Even an elevator to get from top bar to basement bathroom. read more

I had a last minute 3 hour drive to MB from San Diego, and not familiar with the area to know what is good here. First time I did not look on Yelp for help. My friend and I walked around and she decided that this place looked nice. Checked in with The Strand House, but the wait for a table was over an hour (I can't imagine that all the tables were filled at 7 PM?). My friend was in town and we only had 2.5 hours to hang out for dinner before her flight home. We ended up at the Strand Bar downstairs and found a seat for two near the DJ booth! If we arrived before sunset, I am sure the view would have been amazing, but it was already pitch black. As soon as we sat down a cocktail server was appeared with menus. Great, no need to wait around for someone. So, yes customer service was on point until we checked out. I must write that their menu is much pricier than Donavan's and Truluck's. Just so you know what you're dealing with here! In case you have friends inviting you for dinner/birthday party/HH you'd know what to expect and decide to come or not! -Single girls I got you ;) My friend and I ordered drinks and shared a 32 oz. prime bone-in porterhouse mesquite rubbed with grilled zucchini. The steak is shareable for 2 or more. But I think it was enough for two. Or maybe I was really hungry! The porterhouse steak was excellent! Can't go wrong with steak yum! I am glad I did not order pizza! We also ordered desserts: trio of ice cream flavors and free mini doughnuts if you follow the Strand Bar on Instagram. I was not in love with the doughnuts. The view is great, right by the beach & the place is not to loud so you can enjoy a pleasant conversation alongside a very satisfying broad drink selection. The Strand Bar is a great place to grab a drink right after work, especially on a Friday. With the summer coming up, they leave the retractable windows up so you get that nice breeze flowing in. This may sound crazy, but I travel a lot, all across the country. Early mornings and late nights. A couple of weeks ago I decided to order an Irish Coffee at the Strand. Very simple. Coffee, Irish whiskey, and whipped cream. It was one of the best I have ever tasted. Back again tonight. Elise took the time to brew a fresh pot of Verve coffee, hand whipped the cream, and topped off with a shot of Irish whiskey. I felt so guilty I had two. Highly recommend when you need an extra boost. And the view of Manhattan Beach is great too. read more

Was visiting some friends and decided to stop by this bar for some drinks and dancing. It was very eccentric crowd Saturday night. The music was great though, mix of edm with pop. They had the lost boys playing on their tvs and I admit, I was more preoccupied with the movie than the crazy danceoff going on in front of me. This is one of the most amazing, beautiful beach bars around...particularly at sunset...with the absolute worst service. Amanda W was our server and made us feel extremely unwelcome from the moment we sat down at around 4:30 until she finally threw our bill at the table in a huff and walked away. She literally came to our table one time and delivered two beers to us. We sat with empty glasses for awhile and another gentleman asked us if we wanted a couple more. We had actually planned on eating there but we couldn't bear having this poor of service any longer. Mothers Day brunch service was FANTASTIC. The staff was super professional, and made us feel very welcome - even though we dropped in last minute on a holiday. The food was excellent. The best was the chicken and waffles! A simple dish made spectacular with melt-in-your-mouth chicken and fluffy waffles, topped with butter that just oozed savory goodness. We enjoyed our brunch against beautiful ocean views in a quiet, modern setting and appreciated the attentiveness of the staff while we soaked up our last hour of our LA vacation. read more

Went in to the downstairs bar at Strand tonight. Good crowd, good music, and attentive bartenders. A Hawaiian looking girl took care of us and had great suggestions for specialty cocktails. I think her name was G like the letter. Had the Captains daughter cocktail and The Sunset cocktail. Both refreshing martinis. Next time I might need to come in earlier and try some food. read more

This place was absolutely wonderful to eat and drink in. The atmosphere has a nice energy and my fellow patrons were all happy and friendly, as was the staff. Brittany was my bartender/server. She had an upbeat attitude and was friendly/helpful to every customer. She knew her stuff and was prompt. We talked about bartenders and other things. Krissy was the waitress on staff and was also very professional. The bar has an unparalleled view of the Pacific Ocean and you can see the pier from it. It's exquisitely well kept and the place manages to have both a modern, yet classic feel to it. Not sure how, but it does. I'm coming back as often as I possibly can. read more

We go here periodically to have drinks and watch the sunset. The atmosphere is great and having a view while sipping a couple of drinks is the best part of the Strand Bar. The food and drinks are OK. Not bad, but not great either. Same with the service (OK, but not great). No real complaints, but there are several places within a couple of blocks that have better food, but if you want a cool place to just hang out and watch the sunset, this is the place. Overall, this is always a good experience for us which is why we go back. As a side note, we normally go early evening so I don't know what it is like here for those that do the late night thing. read more

Terrible. My fiancé and I rode our bikes here for brunch every other Sunday. When our friend was deciding where to go for her b-day, we thought The Strand was a great spot to celebrate on a Saturday night. That was until my fiancé was maliciously attacked by the bouncer(s). We are still not sure why. I tried to ask and was thrown down the stairs by the security guard without any remorse. Im still baffled by it really, All of us were being respectful and having a good time. It was supposed to be a fun evening. Then it was an evening of horror. Avoid this place and the Strand House at night unless you're looking for drama and/or injury. read more

Terrible experience here. My friends and I spent $500 on bottle service and we're having a great time and were being very responsible customers. Then we went to dance on the dance floor and the security guard came over to my friend and said he could not have his drink on the dance floor. Then, no more than thirty seconds later they came over later to tell them that they had to leave. My friends were ready to leave anyway so they respectfully started to leave and say goodbye. When one of my friends turned around to give us a hug the security guard put him in a headlock and dropped him to the ground, knocking his fiance to the ground and other security guard had to pull him back to keep them from fighting him. Four or five security guards were involved and it was a brawl, our friend was totally harmless and a very kind gentle person. This was a terrible and frightening experience, honestly it's very troubling to know that this kind of thing could happen to normal nice people just on a regular weekend night. I told the manager that their security guards are a huge liability and I absolutely stand by it. If you go here, be careful not to do anything that could be misconstrued as problematic- you could get seriously hurt. read more
