Every time my family and I went to Manhattan Beach I thought this restaurant was so beautiful. I told myself I must try this restaurant out on my birthday and it exceeded all my expectation's. The food, staff, and ambiance were beyond amazing!!! We came for our 530pm dinner reservation and was seated right away. I had asked if I can have a window seat and they made sure to accommodate. Next time I think I would like to try the outdoor patio space. We ordered so much food. Every single dish that came out was super yummy, but the dish that blew mine and my husband's mind was that Branzino. Best Branzino we had ever tasted. The outside was crispy and the inside was super moist and tender. The restaurant even had a kids menu. So for all the folks with young kiddos great place to take your kids. The Strand House is a well-established restaurant in Manhattan Beach along its main corridor, and the final restaurant leaving the downtown area before you reach the pier and beach. The Strand House offers good food, goodservice, and amazing views and vibes at reasonable, but upscale prices. We came with my family for an early dinner on a Sunday afternoon. Off the lunch menu we had the Italian panini ($29), which was a surprisingly complex sandwich with mortadella, salami, onions, lettuce, fresh Marzano tomatoes, and many other vegetables. It was served with an exceptional set of fries, which had a great amount of garlic and the perfect blend of crisp on the outside and softness on the inside, along with tangy ketchup. The children got the pasta bolognese ($14), which was a standard bolognese, although the pasta was a little overcooked. We also got a child salmon ($21), a surprisingly generous piece of fish, well cooked with a somewhat crispy exterior and soft interior alongside broccolini and whipped mashed potatoes. The service was decent - our server collected our order, checked on us appropriately, and generally took care of us throughout our visit. My daughter had grilled chicken and french fries. BTW, the french fries were delicious! We all enjoyed our meals. My lamb chops were perfectly cooked at medium-rare but a little under seasoned. They brought me a salt and pepper mill to season the chops. I was a little surprised that they were under seasoned. I asked for iced tea refills and they were obliging. The meal was moderately priced but for the ambiance and good quality, it was worth it. The service was spot on with plenty of staff attending to our needs. My son's gf had the ceviche she compared it with the local market made and said she liked the local better than what she had. Drinks were good. Reservation was at 5pm, they seated us on time. However if felt like we did not have a choice but to be seated in the patio area which got really cold & windy, out table was wobbling though they put shoppers on it still felt wobbly. It wasn't the best area to dine in. It felt like they just shoved us in there and did not even ask if we were ok with our table being out in the patio. I preferred to be inside the dining area because it looks more peaceful, comfortable and enjoyable. Overall ambience is nice, bright and airy. The patio is too tight and the guy behind me keeps hitting my chair. We dine in quick because I wasn't liking the area where we were. They could've offered us a better space. Think Times Square type vibe. There paid beach parking that's usually full, street meters also usually full and nearby parking paid, also usually full. It's hit or miss and more miss than hit! Save yourself the stress and walk there, take public transport or uber/lyft. Views: 5 for view if you can snag an up or downstairs window seat, you can see the beach, and pier but not the sunset. You gotta walk down to the beach for that. Food: 4-5 for food. The Brussels sprouts are good and a tad soggy, the French fries are a 5, the bread rolls with butter are a 5. Stopped by for dinner and drinks with my hubby and a friend this place is definitely a vibe and super close to the ocean. Best time to go is for happy hour before sunset. Our reservation wasn't until 8:30, so we hung out downstairs for about an hour first. Met a lot of people who were clearly locals and regulars, which always says a lot about a spot. Once we sat down for dinner, we ordered a few things. The bluefin tostadas are a must if you're into seafood. We also had the scallops delicious doesn't even do them justice, just wish there was more than one . My hubby ordered the lamb, which was probably our least favorite since it was a bit dry. The rigatoni though? Unbelievably good. Honestly, I'd come back and order the exact same items minus the lamb lol. Shoutout to Griffin for keeping us going all night . And the buttermilk bread? Love this place. I've had dinner here multiple times over the years. The other night I was here with a group from work and as always, the food was great. The staff was attentive and accommodating to our table request with us needing a heat lamp since we were outside on the patio. We split the octopus appetizer, I had the scallops and pesto pasta, and we split the key lime dessert. We were seated at a table right against the window with a prime ocean view. Our server, while pleasant, left us alone for long periods of time. Because he seemed to have forgotten about us, we weren't able to order for quite some time and thus received our food over an hour after arriving. We started with the crab cakes. Tasty, but not worth the cost. For my main I had the Parisian Ham and Cypress Grove Cheese Omelette. They knew what they were doing by putting Cypress Grove in the name, because I love that cheese and knew I had to order this. Young reception greeter was kinda snotty and called my name - I was standing right next to her and i obviously heard her but because we didn't jump to follow her up the stairs she snapped my name again. Nathan was our server. 10 people is $75/person minimum and 23% gratuity AND server asks for more on top of that for just his service. It's a lot for a good (not spectacular) meal. The restaurant wanted us to do a fixed menu for 10 but I asked if we could all order off the menu since 10 of us have very different ideas of what's good food; events coordinator nicely agreed to do this one time exception. The crab cakes were good like other reviews stated. Steak was good. Potatoes meh. Cinnamon roll was $17 and quite large but not cinnamony nor moist. Even tho cocktails were $20 each or more and everyone ordered an appetizer and a main, we still didn't make the $75/person minimum. Overall ratings - 1/5 parking. 5/5 view for half the table. 5/5 for Nathan until the extra tip request. 3/5 for food. 1/5 for snappy, young female hostess who worked today. Don't plan to go back. Oh and it was crazy loud - couldn't even have a conversation at this restaurant with the person right across from you. Possibly the best crab cakes of our entire lives and the yellowtail crudo was the definition of a balanced and rich appetizer. Seriously, this is in our top 10 meals (maybe top 5) of all time. He was the perfect balance of attentiveness (yet not overbearing), knowledgeable, professional, yet he still made us feel like we were having a relaxed hangout out in his house as his friends. I've been a bartender at various bars and restaurants for the past 20 years and I gotta say that it was an honor to be helped by that caliber of a server. I also told him that I didn't love mushrooms so he had our entrée, which had mushrooms, split and my sister's half had mushrooms but mine didn't. Not only the waiter comes by to check your needs, the manager/owner also comes by to have a small chat. The food was served within timely manner. The dish were freshly prepared. Their seafood and Italian were pretty good. Not too overwhelmingly salty, and truffle could be tasted. However, the dessert was overly sweet for my mature taste buds. They dont have artisan beer, and most are just branded names which I dislike. The wine selection is better with some good choices. The place is quite pricey for its atmosphere and view. The ahi tuna salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, not overpowered by vinegar (as it usually happens) and the sea bass was cooked to perfection with lots of flavours. For dessert, the truffle hazelnut treat is an absolute standout, rich, indulgent, and reminiscent of a Ferrero Rocher. Parking in the area can be a bit challenging, with mostly metered spots nearby. The Mezlon and Berry mocktail were both refreshing and beautifully balanced.
