So glad I found this place! I was looking for somewhere to hang out and grab a drink before heading to Cinema West, and Yelp pointed me to Purple Orchid. This spot checked all my Tiki-bar boxes: moody lighting, fun kitschy décor, and seriously great drinks. I started with a Mai Tai--perfectly strong but still super tasty--then switched to a glass of Chardonnay so I wouldn't be completely blitzed for the movie. We still had time to spare, so I finished with a virgin Piña Colada and oh my gosh, it was delicious. Loved the jukebox and pool tables, too. Huge thanks to Lindsay for the excellent service. We'll definitely be back!

Great place for cocktails in El Segundo. A lot of classic tiki drinks plus some twist. The purple passion and Vic's grog was my favorite. The atmosphere is a tiki bar with island vibes and music. The staff was super nice and very informative of recommendation of the drinks. There's also two billiard tables for entertainment besides the sports TVs.

Great lunch spot with a floral ambiance and excellent food. It has a mom and pop feel so that's a perk. We came after the lunch rush, so the service was pretty quick.

We all ordered a different drink, but got two of the same. It was not worth the visit. Bill came to 48, way over priced.

Poor experience, wrong drinks, long wait time, we were overlooked while bartender was friendly with other people. Very strange, disappointing experience. Overpriced for what we received.

Perhaps I'm spoiled from regularly traveling to places with great tiki bars, particularly San Diego, other parts of LA, and even Orlando. However, I also put great effort into making legit tiki drinks at home, so I both appreciate the effort when it's there, and will criticize when it isn't there. I'm not opposed to paying for proper tiki, but I also understand it's a difficult business model; doesn't mean you can't have the fake tiki for the cost conscious consumer, and good ones at a different price point. If you're used to high end tiki drinks, that are faithful to the originals, this is not that. Purple Orchid seems to be a dive bar that serves drinks that loosely resemble tiki drinks, and share the name. It has random tiki decorations, and bamboo, along with a stage (plus tv tuned to ESPN....), pool tables, etc. So, my experience was a sticky counter, served a drink in a sticky glass, bartenders exchanging stories about guests who got belligerent and required eviction, and certainly nothing resembling tiki escapism. If you want legit tiki, just take the longer ride share and hit up Bamboo Club or Tiki Ti. I gave two starts because the staff were nice, prices include tax so your bill is easy to calculate and a nice round number, and the cool tiki memorabilia on the mens bathroom wall. Learned there used to be a tiki theme motel in my home town a few decades ago.

The Purple Orchid is a beautiful neighborhood, tiki bar with pool tables. The custom wood bar is very long and decorated with Hawaiian memorabilia. The bartender was very friendly and outgoing. We came during happy hour and my Mai Tai was only $10.

Stopped by before flight back to Vegas. Very nice vibes and awesome bartender. Drinks were very good. Was able to get a couple rounds of pool in. Def recommend.

If you are looking for a Genuine Tiki Bar with a totally sassified Bartender and the best Mai Tai that I've ever had, you got to check this place out. We love the vibe, the music & the staff. The interior never left the early 60's and I hope that it never does. It's a great reminder to times gone by, and what goes around comes around! Go, enjoy and travel back to what truly were the good ole days.

Obsessed! Loved the bartender & playing pool on a Random Sunday. Drinks were great too! Also the bathroom is super clean lol

What a find! Went there on a double date. My friend suggested stopping in for a drink before seeing Bride of Frankenstein at the nearby Old Town Music Hall for our Halloween themed outing. It was a great idea. I must say that Purple Orchid is the tiki-est bar I've ever been to. Yes, it was divey but it had a cool decor, interesting mood lighting, and I liked my Mai Tai. It was fun seeing the other couple sharing their giant volcano bowl drink with the flame in the center. Luckily, no eyebrows were singed in the process! I look forward to going back again when I'm in town.

Great vibe, decor and drinks. Friendly staff. I love a good tiki bar! We had a great time, the drinks were tasty. It's got a lot of neat little hidden decorations.

Super fun place! One of the cutest tiki bars & their drinks are cheap & good. But they are very strong lol, beware of that.

It takes place mostly in their rear patio area and parking lot, but a good number of vendors were also in an adjacent air conditioned event room. They have a very small parking lot, but it was occupied by vendors during this event. Do not park in the parking lots of the adjacent businesses, as we were warned when entering the Tonga Hut that cars get towed regularly. There's plenty of street parking in the nearby neighborhood. Entering from the rear, there is a good sized covered patio with around eight benches. We went inside to check it out and grab a drink. The interior is fairly small with four good sized booths, a lounge area with a large J-shaped couch with several small tables, and around ten seats at the bar. It is dimly lit with some basic tiki décor, and has an old-school feel. They had a fixed cocktail menu for this event which is understandable. We stood in line at the bar for about ten minutes, got our drinks and went out to the patio. The bartender was friendly, and didn't seem flustered by the high volume of patrons. I had the Horned Beast O' The Celtic Sea (Oceanus Hibernicus Irish Malt, Jamacian Rum, House Made Falernum & Orgeat, Peach, Citrus, Dash of Cherry Heering, $13). She had the Leprechaun Grog (Three Rums, Lime, Grapefruit, Honey, Spice, Soda, $14). Both drinks were good, were served in souvenir plastic cups, and were a bargain at $13 to $14. If you ordered a drink containing Oceanus whiskey, the bartender gave you a gold coin and you could exchange it with the Oceanus representative on the patio for a free T-shirt. Durango Tacos was setup near the rear entrance for food. We had four tacos (two carne asada and two veggie), and they were good and reasonably priced. This was the first tiki marketplace we have attended. There were around twenty vendors with a good assortment of art work, tiki mugs, tiki clothing, tiki décor, and other miscellaneous items. I purchased a few nice tiki shirts which were a steal at $20 and $25. The vendors and visitors were all very friendly and in a festive mood. We hung out for about ninety minutes and had a good time. We will return at some point to try their regular cocktail menu and see what it's like on a non-event night.

Walk a little further and go through the door to enter. I was blown away by the atmosphere and build. Kudos to Bamboo Ben! It is dimly lit with a ton of cave wall, bamboo, thatch, netting, tiki lights, floats, skulls, tikis, and other décor. The bar is loaded with bottles and looks great with dark blue and green backlighting. The bar top is wood with deep cutouts that are filled with clear epoxy. The booths in the main dining area are little tiki huts and even have clouds overhead. There was great tiki music playing the whole time. A few times an hour a thunderstorm hits. The lights dim, lightning flashes with thunder sound effects, and red lights illuminate cracks in the floor that looks like lava veins. There is also a photo-op "Pele's Throne" which is a big lava rock surrounded chair. We sat at the bar and had the coconut shrimp appetizer ($12). The shrimp were breaded and cooked well, and had a coconut sprinkle on top. The spicy dipping sauce complemented the shrimp well. I started out with the Drunken Monkey (Makers Mark 46, Jamaican rum, banana liqueur, cinnamon, allspice, Angostura bitters, normally $19, $17 during happy hour). It was somewhat bourbon forward with a little funk from the Jamaican rum. I definitely got the cinnamon notes with a little banana and allspice in the background. She started out with the El Capitan Hook (Del Maguey mezcal, pineapple, banana liqueur, Luxardo cherry liqueur, lime, $17, $15 during happy hour). This was smoke forward with light pineapple and banana flavor. I had the Hula burger ($18) which was very good with a lot of different flavors from the various toppings. It came with a decent amount of fries, and was a filling plate. She had the pineapple bowl fried rice and added with BBQ pork ($17 + $5 for pork add-on). It is served in half of a scooped out pineapple and had a good amount of rice with pork and green onions on top. It had a good mix of teriyaki sauce on the rice and BBQ sauce on the pork. Next, I had the Rum Runner (coconut and blended dark rums, banana liqueur, raspberry, grenadine, pineapple, orange, lime, $18, $15 during happy hour). It was very pineapple and coconut forward which overpowered all of the other ingredients. She also had the Let That ManGo (white rhum agricole, coconut, mango, lemon, $18, $16 during happy hour). The primary flavors here were mango with some grassiness from the agricole. We were here from about 6pm to 8pm on a Wednesday night and it was pretty dead with only a few other people in the place the whole time. They do have a stage in the back with live music acts, so it is probably busier when there is entertainment and on weekends. Our first bartender was Alex who was nice but we barely talked with him. Manager Pedro took over the bartender duties later on and we had a great time chatting with him. Service was great from both of them. The drinks are a few dollars above average, but if you come during happy hour, the drinks are several dollars off. Happy hour is currently all day Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, and Thursday through Saturday from 5pm to 8pm. The food was good, the drinks were ok to good, and the atmosphere was great. Normally, this would probably be a one and done, but I really liked the build and would like to come back when it is busier, maybe on a weekend.
