Our waiter Alex was amazing. We mainly had cocktails, but I had a special request. I wanted an Old Fashion made with a Rye. Alex proceeded to tell me they had two. One was Duke's and the other was a Michters Rye. I tried each of them and both were made superbly by the Joey's Bartending staff. My curiosity learned that Duke's Rye is from Duke's Spirits and one of the founders is Ethan Wayne (John Wayne's youngest son). As many of us know; the legendary actor John Wayne was known as "The Duke". Learning and sharing this information with the staff (Kirk, Brandon Lee (psuedo..LOL) and manager John Stokke made it such a fun and entertaining afternoon at Joey's. JOEY Manhattan Beach is always a vibe! One of my girls and I came here to catch up literally right after I got off the plane. JOEY has always been one of my favorite spots, and I missed it so much! Definitely recommend making reservations because this place stays busy. We lucked up and came during happy hour, which made it even better. We ordered some of my usual hitters: the Hibachi Wings, Truffle Fries, and Sushi Cone. We also tried the Shrimp Lettuce Wraps for the first time, and listen...the hitters were HITTING, and the new dish has officially joined the lineup. Everything was so good! And of course, 9 ounces of rosé because what else would I be drinking? I also love that we were greeted with a glass of champagne upon entry. The food here is absolutely delicious however this our 2nd time here and the service is very subpar. I'm saying this because our second visit resulted in the same when it came to our waiters. Inattentive, did not pick up our plates and had to flag someone down for more water. We love the food however come on Joey's ? Two times now and the same poor service from the waiters. Here is an example of what our table looks like ... no one picked up anything and piled it all up in hopes someone would walk by and remove them. Perfect happy hour spot. We ordered sushi, lettuce wraps, Parmesan fries, a cheeseburger and raspberry butter cake. Everything was delicious and our food came out quick. The server seemed to had forgot about us because he rarely stopped by to check if we needed anything. It's best to make reservations because there can be a bit of a wait. Parking was simple as it's located in Manhattan Village. Happy hour is the way to go but everything else on the menu is divine! Came on a monday night and it was busy but not too bad. If you're visiting on the weekend, I'd also recommend arriving early since parking can fill up quickly. My girlfriend and I walked in to JOEY Manhattan Beach on a Sunday night around 9:30 with no reservation. Parking was easy, but the start of the night really threw us off. At the host stand we felt unwelcome. They got my name wrong and my phone number wrong, and while everyone else waiting for a table was being handed champagne, we never got offered any. We ended up buying a drink at the bar while we waited. Once we sat down, things got a lot better. I had the steak with the sushi and sushi cones, and she got the steak and lobster spaghetti. Both were good. We had three lemon drop martinis between us, and they were good too. For dessert we split the cheesecake crème brûlée, which was a nice way to end the night. Our waitress was good and we had no problems with her. Dinner was $223, about $250 with the extra drink at the bar. The food, drinks, and our server deserve 4 stars, but that first impression at the door is what we'll remember. When you're spending that kind of money, you shouldn't feel like the only people in line who weren't welcome. read more

I really wanted to love Joey Manhattan Beach, especially since I've had a much better experience at another Joey location. In fact, I was the one who recommended this spot for my father's birthday dinner. Let's just say...that recommendation did NOT age well. The ambiance? Beautiful. The food and drinks? From the appetizers to the entrees, everything was underwhelming--and much of it arrived lukewarm, which gave the impression that it had been sitting around rather than coming fresh from the kitchen. The steaks were probably the biggest miss. I ordered medium-well, expecting at least a little pink, but what arrived was completely cooked through and tough. Another person in our party ordered a medium steak, and it was tough as well. At that point, I'm thinking the issue may not have been the requested temperature...the kitchen just may not know how to cook a steak. The cocktails didn't exactly redeem the evening either. They were lacking in flavor and, honestly, the alcohol pour was so light I almost wondered if the bartender was working with a ration card. What makes it even more disappointing is the price. When you're spending that kind of money for a birthday dinner, you expect the food and drinks to match the atmosphere and the bill. Unfortunately, this experience left us seriously underwhelmed. I'll definitely be skipping this Joey location in the future. And after this experience, I may need to put the entire Joey franchise on a little timeout. Beautiful setting, disappointing execution. We tried a few different drinks throughout the night -- the JOEY Martini, Goldeneye Pinot Noir, Spicy Passion Fruit Margarita, and Sitari Spritz. Everything was so good (and honestly so pretty too). For dinner we shared the steak, sushi, and lobster spaghetti, and there genuinely wasn't a bad dish on the table. Everything tasted amazing. We made reservations for 12 at 8:30. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we were able to seat 17 at 9:15 - 6 older people at the regular tables and the remaining 11 at high tops. Back again for work in the area and came to this location 3 days in a row for dinner where I met some amazing staff members working the bar. Starting off with Kaylee who after introducing myself and learning I had been coming to Joey restaurants for over 14 years when I am in Canada she stated that she was a dual citizen and is familiar with the Canadian chain. Banter conversations gave way to asking for the Canadian maple ice cream on top of the apple tart dessert which they advertise on the Canadian menu. Working with her that night was Nick and both made me feel welcomed. Ordered the HH duo of sushi which was a recent addition to their menu followed by the lobster shrimp spaghetti. The following night I ordered their 7 oz filet steak with crunchy puffs of mashed potatoes and broccolini (sorry no photo) where I met Emma and Brandon who were just as great. On my final night I ordered their chicken parm spaghetti followed by a hand roll where I met Marina. There was another female server who worked Wednesday and Thursday night but unfortunately I forgot her name but she had an infectious smile and was engaging with all the guests that were sitting at the bar. Food was great during the 3 consecutive nights that I came for dinner with my only comments were that the sushi rice on the duo entree was slightly hard and recommended to Kaylee that the kitchen place a damp cloth over the cooked rice to keep the rice moist while in holding on the Line. They put Cheddar cheese, you know, real cheese on their burgers and not that awful American cheese also known as cheese food. That alone makes me return more than once. We love their burgers and they will even cook them the way you want and not burn them because they think they have to. They are the best. It has double patties, cheddar cheese, pickles, lettuce, roasted onion aioli--what more could you want. I know, fries that are great. It comes with them or for a tad more you can get a side salad or truffle parmesan fries. It matters not, they are all great. Their steaks are so great. The Joey Classic is a sirloin cooked to perfection with mashed potatoes. You can also get the Prime NY Strip and it is more money (a lot more) but so worth it. Everything there is great. It is open late. I love that. It is open until midnight, but don't show up at midnight, the kitchen is closing. The service is great. The place is just beautiful. Butter cake was very dense/doughy and heavy, I could only eat one bite. We also ordered the Mini Short Rib French Dips as well, comes in 2 or 4 pieces. We ordered 4 They have different size meat on every piece. One was a scrap , literally less than half of the others. Imagine we ordered 2 piece and got the tiny pieces, I wouldn't have even known any better. If you're not going to be consistent with the food/portions don't put the irregularities on the same plate as the others!! Just lazy and rookie mistakes you would not expect at a high end establishment. Looks like they don't even care at all to throw in that tiny gimpy piece. Also one of the pieces were barely thrown on the plate leaning off the plate. I fixed it for the first photo, but in my 2nd photo it shows how it came to our table.
