We ate here with my daughter and her husband the day before Fathers Day. We had a lot to celebrate. Angel was our server, and he did a fanastic job making sure everyone was comfortable. Our reservation was at 6:15 pm, and we arrived a few minutes ahead of schedule due to concerns about traffic. We had to wait a few minutes for our table to clear, and we were seated. Water was provided and an extensive wine list was provided. I found two local wines indigeneous to California to order, which was great. The food - well, it was fantastic. We ordered their Steak Tartare and Caesar Salad for appetizers and both were delicious. For the main course, we had two people order their Filets and two people order the ArthurJ Steak Sampler. The meat was cooked to order and nicely seasoned, and sauces were offered and provided when selected. For the sides with the steaks, we went with their Crispy Brussel Sprouts and Butter Laden Mashed Potato dishes, which were very good. Every year we go to the Arthur Jay's in Manhattan Beach for our wedding anniversary. It's funny we were served by the same server every single year, Alonso. He's the best most professional server and it's always lovely to see him. It's always a pleasure to dine at the Arthur Jay's as well. The food is just really really good. We ordered the shrimp cocktail with the biggest shrimp I've ever seen and a delightful cocktail sauce. It has a few vegetables as well. All very yummy and very chilled. The ribeye did not disappoint. Asparagus were great and so were our mashed potatoes. Every month they do a cake of the month and June is strawberry cake with a layer of strawberry cheesecake and strawberry coulis. It truly was amazing. Because it was our anniversary this Chef threw in a couple of little Keylime tarts and they really were the best I've ever had. TIKI DAVE doesn't like steakhouses. I feel they are way overpriced and I can confidently say that my wife and I can cook a nice, quality steak equally if not better than most of them. But....Arthur J has proved itself to be a special place, even more so when the boss is buying. My colleagues and I were treated to a really great experience when our new boss came to town and took us out. The location was chosen by my colleague who is a Manhattan Beach resident and frequent diner. He chose the items off the menu and did an absolutely fantastic job. Absolutely everything from the impeccable service to the perfectly delicious food were amazing. Cocktails were impeccably created. The ambiance was fantastic as well. This place ain't cheap. I still wonder why steakhouses feel they have to charge so dang much for a special steak I can make at home for $30. Charging over double and sometimes triple just seems egregious. Yes, it is in downtown Manhattan Beach, mere steps from the ocean. I get it. But...this dinner was amazing and I'm glad to have had the opportunity. We had quite a few appetizers but my ultimate favorite was the tuna tartare. I'm not one to consume raw food items but this was pleasantly delicious! Hubbers and I have been eyeing this place for years, but we both agreed it's gotta be a special occasion for us to come through. Welp... there isn't a better reason to come through than to celebrate his birthday! Made reservations for 9 (my one year one grand niece included.) At first I was told it might be a tight squeeze but it'll work. A few hours before our reservation time, I got a call from them asking if it's okay to move us from the main floor to a private room. I took it as a pleasant surprise and it was an absolute YES! My entire party pretty much rolled in within 15 minutes of our reserved time. We were all actually glad we got moved to a private room because the main floor was a little too loud for our taste. And it gave my grandniece the chance to run around freely! So it was perfect! We were welcomed by our main server, Jay who was a delight the whole night. He had a couple of other people helping him out given the size of our party. He went over the menu thoroughly and made a few suggestions, some we went for. ONE DOZEN OYSTERS: Fresh and shucked clean. Not a hint of leftover shell on the ones I had. Added a teenee splash of lemon which added to flavor, BEEF TOAST: This, we were impressed with! There was a lot going on here, flavor wise, but all came together with each bite. Seasoning was perfect. Recommending! EMMENTAL POPOVERS: A must try. Good as is but better with strawberry butter. Crispy outside layer, soft inside. ROASTED BONE MARROW TOAST: This was disappointing. There was barely any marrow on the bones. We're talking 90% bone (not exaggerating) and the rest, marrow and what little of it on there. I'd recommend to skip this. Not worth the price. (SIDE STORY: I happen to have 2 half slices frozen at home, made it the next day, and they were far better AND CHEAPER than the ones they offer here.) Skip this. FRENCH ONION SOUP: Delivered hot hot hot! Broth had depth, good flavor. I felt it was missing something, though, but I can't quite put my finger on it. It was good, but could be better. PAN SEARED DIVER SCALLOPS: The scallops were cooked perfect and delicious. However, I felt all the extras took away its main essence. There was too much going on here, and with 4pcs per order? Meh. The kitchen split the plate in two which we appreciated. They were all perfect, and black truffle butter elevated the flavor. I'd recommend this to share with another. GRASSHOPPER SUNDAE: Ohhhh, this was a good and refreshing finish! And they give plenty enough for two. Recommending! FOOD: 4. SERVICE: 3.75. There were a few (enough) times servers weren't available when needed. I figure they were also working the main floor maybe? But otherwise above par. VALUE: 2. I felt everything was overpriced. I had to (naturally) compare this place to the many other steakhouses I've been to, but this one tops it cost-wise. But I get it: the location alone is enough to justify it. So if you feel like spoiling yourself a lot, this might just be the place. PARKING: Street only. They don't offer valet. An absolute challenge especially during the dinner rush on weekends. OVERALL: 3.25. Hubbers had a wonderful time as did everyone else in our party. Now as for coming back? I'd have to give it some thought... the one thing pulling me back is the overall cost. Fabulous steakhouse in the heart of Manhattan Beach! Our server Jason was excellent and recommended the prime rib for the Saturday night special. Our very first visit to Arthur J and they gave us the tuna tartar with shrimp chips as appetizer. We ordered filet mignons, pork chop ( huge!), broccolini and Mac and cheese. Your typical steakhouse vibes, but with a location near the beach. Went on a Friday evening for a birthday dinner. Parking was pretty tough - found a parking lot a few blocks away. Had reservations and were sat immediately. Was a very lively place and was pretty loud. Felt better for a group vs a date night with how loud it was. The server gave us several nice recommendations for wine and drinks, and was very attentive. Had a few glasses of wine and and old fashioned - all were delicious. Ended up ordering a Kansas City strip bone-in (I believe - it's been a few weeks). Also had the Waldorf salad, asparagus, and some mac and cheese. Everything was pretty good. Came here on two separate occasions, and to be honest, I wasn't super impressed by the food. However, the service is amazing. I came here the second time with my husband and my friend (who has the same birthday) on their birthday's! The waiter was super sweet and comped ALL 3 desserts we got! I truly wish I could give it a higher rating, but the food just doesn't stand out for the price you're paying. Asparagus - Pretty standard. It had some sort of lemon sauce on it which tasted creamy and mild. The asparagus itself was tender. Good for sharing! Fries - They skimped on the fries. Even though it looks like a decent portion, they created a makeshift smaller cup with the paper they put the fries in, so the fries didn't actually reach the bottom. Since they were thick cut fries, it tasted a lot more potatoey and not super crispy. 16 oz Prime Ribeye - In comparison to the other prime ribeyes I get, this cut is much less marbled. In addition, it's not super flavorful by itself and honestly tastes better with a sauce (that they charge money for). Definitely wouldn't get this again. Sticky Toffee Pudding with Ice Cream - It was good , but just so sweet. I couldn't finish this with my husband even if we wanted to. Came here for a private event and had a great time. Private space is connected to an adjacent party with a thin wall so if the other party is loud you will hear them. Room is dimly lit, cozy and great for a private party. It's separated from the public dining room and you do have a private bathroom that you share with the adjacent room so that's also a nice touch. Preset menu is 4 courses with a bread service. Each person gets their own their appetizer and soup/salad. Scallops 10/5 - cooked to perfection and the sage butter is just delicious. Sitting atop the buttern Salmon 10/5 - totally thought the salmon would be outshined by the tomahawk but not at all! Deliciously seasoned and wonderfully tender, this is probably one of the best pieces of salmon I've had! Tomahawk 10/5 - really nice cut piece of beef. Super well seasoned and it is cooked to perfection. Perfect medium rare and extremely tender. Ribeye 4/5 - delicious but when you put it next to the tomahawk definitely pales comparison. Also well seasoned but not as tender as the tomahawk for sure Chicken 4/5 - super flavorful and moist chicken. Surprised that it could still stand its own when placed next to the steaks. Testament to the cooking. Sides include mashed potatoes, broccolini, asparagus and Mac and cheese. All delicious and great accompaniments to the mains. Dessert was seasonal cake of the month. My girl matched my energy but upgraded to the 12oz with a loaded baked potato (as she should ). Y'all... the steak was cooked to perfection. I ordered medium rare (I think ), but whether it was medium rare or medium, it was right. The broccolini had that perfect char too -- not playing with it. The ambiance is interesting -- it's dimly lit, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's all soft whispers and romance. The bar area was cracking. Service is always exceptional. Our server Jason was so nice and attentive. Started off with a glass of cabernet which he highly recommended. I forgot the name of the vineyard. We ordered the cheese popover which came with butter and strawberry jam. The popover was huge and warm. The butter and jam was a great compliment to the airy eggy popover. On Saturdays, prime rib is the nightly special, which comes with a fully loaded baked potato. We both decided on the prime rib and also ordered a side of the creamed spinach. The prime rib comes rare and was cooked perfectly. There was plenty of au jus around the delectable tender prime rib. Creamed horseradish came on the side. The baked potato came fully loaded with sour cream, cheese, butter and chives. The creamed spinach was topped with fried onion rings. We loved the spinach. It wasn't overly creamy, which I liked. We both really enjoyed the prime rib and the accompanying sides. My friend had a choice of desserts for her birthday. I've always been meaning to check out Arthur J and finally got around to it. It's a cozy spot nestled in Manhattan Beach that's pretty unassuming. When you think of Manhattan Beach, you typically don't think of a steakhouse but the Arthur J delivers. We came for a private party and had a whole dining room to ourselves. The service was superb and very attentive. Immaculate vibes! The food was delicious. The seafood tower is a must and tasted super fresh. The steak tartare was terrific and the filet mignon was fantastic - super tender. The sides were great too - I would highly recommend the mashed potatoes. The only thing that this place needs is a parking lot but given the limited real estate in MB, that's understandable. This is one of the "newish" steakhouses in LA county, I think it's been around for about a decade or so, but it's got an old school vibe to it. Sort of reminds me of a newer, more modern version of Dal Rae in Pico Rivera (has been around the 1950's and highly recommended). My go to order here are martinis, oysters, and the ribeye. Everything is well made, you will not be disappointed. The place is always busy and the vibe is a bit more energetic and on the louder side, not necessarily a bad thing. Just don't expect a quiet and intimate dinner. Service is friendly and reservations are recommended. Depending on the time and day, parking can be a challenge even though they have paid parking spots in the city. But it's nowhere as bad as LA, where I'm from! read more

However we prefer flemings in el segundo... the cuts and meat quality at Arthur j aren't anything to write home about- sometimes the ribeye cuts are so gristly, we've spit them out. Heard so many good things about Arthur J that we had to check it out. We made a reservation for a Thursday night and we were surprised how packed the restaurant was. We got their filet mignon, ribeye and three side dishes to share. Fries, broccolini, and sautéed mushrooms. All the sides were good but the steak was a bit of a disappointment. The filet mignon did not come out hot at all. They burnt the top and the steak itself was not warm. It was as if it was left out for a while? The ribeye was okay. We called our server over and explained about the steak and he was really nice and said he would take it back and make a fresh one. It was not too long after (not even 5 min) the steak was brought back out and it was the same steak just buttered up on top with minced something (I swear it's to hide the burnt steak top) and warmed up. Visited as part of a group dinner. Everyone in our party really enjoyed both the food and wine. For starters, we shared the bread rolls and popovers - both came with a delicious dip on the side. I preferred the standard bread rolls over the others due to the softness and taste. Next, we shared a Caesar salad and our side dishes included Brussels sprouts and mashed potatoes. Both side dishes were absolutely delicious and paired perfectly with their steak. I tried the petite filet, medium rare. I was left extremely satisfied with my choice. But it's good and it's in a trendy area. To me, it's the best restaurant in the area. Be prepared to spend though. My impression, is that if you are looking to eat here, you are not concerned with pricing. I think this is better than Boa, but this is less of a traditional steakhouse. She suggested MB Post--same ownership--because she swore their burgers were top tier. Unfortunately, they weren't offering it on the dinner menu that night. Not yet realizing both restaurants were part of Simms Restaurants, we called ahead to Arthur J's, confirmed they had burgers, and headed over. We were warmly greeted by the hostess, to whom I stated, "We're here about the burgers." She laughed and asked about our seating preference. We chose the bar--Thursday night, cocktails already flowing--and lucked out with two stools right next to the service station. (Pro tip: best spot if you want the bartender's attention.) In my opinion, personnel and attitude make or break a place. You can have great food, a beautiful space, and all the ambiance in the world, but without the right people, the experience falls flat. Fortunately, Kua, our bartender/server, was exceptional--knowledgeable, attentive, warm, and genuinely friendly. A skilled mixologist and great company. He introduced us to two fantastic cocktails: Brannigan's Boots (Rye) and the Infante (Tequila). We also had the chance to chat with the GM, Aaron--again, people make the place. My team had a holiday event here in their private room and it was a great experience. They have different prefixe menu options and we had a 4 course set. I had the shrimp cocktail while my boyfriend had the steak tartare (which he was a huge fan of). I opted for the wedge salad while he had the Caesar; I enjoyed mine a lot in large part because of the generous bacon sprinkles. I had the 16 oz New York strip for my main while he had the 12 oz filet. We alongside others noticed that the meat was on the rarer side of what was requested, and some people sent their steaks back to get them cooked further (and the Arthur J was obliging). Sides were shared family style. For dessert, we had a whole serving to ourselves. The sticky toffee pudding with ice cream was super sweet and filling. I went to dinner here with a girlfriend to catch up after a while of not seeing each other and it was the perfect place to catch up! Great drinks, the espresso martinis were divine and the Diamonds are Forever comes with these fried Olives that should literally be their own item on the menu because they were amazing. As far as the food goes, we started with the tuna tartare that was so fresh and the chips it comes with make this satisfying cracking sound when you pair everything together. The bone marrow comes with toast that has this phenomenal jam on top and when paired with the small side salad it is truly *chef's kiss* For the mains we split the beef Wellington which was the special for Tuesday night and the wagyu which was so sweet and light it really did melt in your mouth. Ceasar salad, mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts were the standout sides. And while we could barely breath we were so full, we just had to save some room for the baked Alaska, which was the perfect end to our meal. This was unacceptable. I asked prior to making a reservation for a booth for two. I not only made a reservation on open table but called. I was told no problem. My husband is 6'8. Only comfortable at a booth. I was told no problem on the phone. We arrived at our reservation time, the two hostesses might have had an IQ combined of 25. A table was offered, no bueno for us. We were told all booths were taken. I should have been told prior to the confirmation. Then shown to another table, which my husband could not get his knees under. Not willing to spend 600 + for two to be uncomfortable. Manhattan Beach, get over yourselves. Not that great !! Good luck Arthur Js. I'm sure with the population u serve , they will be fine. Recently went to Arthur J for a chef dinner in one of their private dining rooms. There were 12 of us and the main chef/owner David Lefebre came in and met with us and also introduced the chef who was cooking for us that evening. Food was incredibly delicious and they chose a different wine for each new dish. Glad I took an Uber that night! read more

The Arthur J has been my go to restaurant for special celebrations for years. The food was always great and the service special. When I returned last night for a work dinner I was very disappointed- did I catch them on a bad night or have things gone downhill? They did warn me that they had 2 very large groups but I would've thought the Arthur J could handle things correctly. 1. 3 of our 5 arrived a few minutes early so at our table I ordered a beer which came quickly. However, when the remaining 2 of our group arrived their drink order took 10-15 mins. The waiter said the bar was backed up due to the large group by 15 minutes? 2. Our waiter was friendly but seemed all over the place. At first he asked us to just order all our food together and he would parse it out in the best way. Yet, when we started to order salads along with appetizers he broke in saying "im only taking appetizers now" so which is it? 3. One of our sides (brussels sprouts) didn't come. We were told it went to a different table. Eventually we did get it. 4. They had a really good special desert on offer "baked alaska" however when we ready for desert our waiter informed us that the large party had ordered all of them and we'd need to wait 45 mins for the next batch. If that was the case- why didn't he tell us that earlier so we could've ordered one? 5. In the past when ever I went to the Arthur J the owner or maybe he was a manager made rounds checking in on every table. I never thought this was necessary but just a nice thing that I noticed. This didn't occur during my work dinner. 6. When my steak arrived I asked for creamy horseradish. I was told no problem it was coming. It didn't. I had to ask a second time. 7. The Arthur J is always busy but in the past staff always seemed to be calm and collected in the storm. This visit things just seemed more chaotic. Our waiter just didnt seem on top of things. All of these things would minor issues at a ho-hum restaurant but the Arthur J isnt supposed to be a ho-hum restaurant (nor do they charge a ho-hum price). On the plus side the food itself was still great but my visit was just disappointing and it left me wondering if there was a change in management or staff. read more

The food was incredible. Highly recommend the mashed potatoes and broccolini as sides. The service was great--kind, attentive and helpful. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Knocked off a star for the cocktails--we had two whiskey based cocktails and couldn't taste the whiskey, they were pretty watered down. I called The Arthur J with a last minute scramble to get an end of year dinner party together, and connected with Katie, the banquet manager. She was absolutely fantastic, helping us with the timing, room, wine & menu so we knew we would have the perfect event in the Clubhouse. Our evening was perfect, with our own dedicated servers, and Johnny O, our own very friendly and knowledgeable sommelier. I ordered the scallop starter - perfectly seared and beautifully presented. Followed by the Caesar salad, the rib eye, served with all of their sauces including the bernaise, the Arthur J steak sauce, and fresh horseradish for the table. We had the Mac & cheese and the roasted broccolini and of course, the butter laden mashed potatoes. My favorite was the figgy pudding. This was our first time at Arthur J and we will definitely be coming back. We sat at the bar and the bartenders Courtney and Chris were both amazing. We split the scallop appetizer, blue cheese wedge, the petite sirloin, and then the pecan pie cake and everything was amazing! The food was great but we really fell in love with the atmosphere and the service. Chris was super knowledge about the wines and was very helpful in making our dinner selection. This place is great for dinner but I wouldn't recommend for brunch. Their options are very limited and the dish my husband ordered (crab cakes) was extremely small portioned. Were it not for the few sides we ordered he would've still been hungry after. The drinks were also subpar, which I was most surprised about. My husbands old fashioned was full of ice cubes, my espresso martini was very bitter and could've used a touch of sweet. Ok. Been there many times. Usually the food is good. Always loved the popovers. Service is always good as well. This time though I ordered the $200 40 ounce, dry aged prime Tomahawk steak. Serious mistake. I was shocked at how dry and tough it was. I was able to eat a few bites....going to give the rest to my dog. Amazing how they could screw up a good cut of meat. Hell, even their steak knives were dull. How hard is it to keep those sharpened? In any case the only thing I can guess is that their steaks are probably frozen before hand...which is why they come out dry, tough and tasteless. Never again. Incredibly disappointing. read more
