We love great steak houses and we have been to a lot. Porterhouse is now our new favorite. It was our first time here and it was so good. It is located on a great street in the middle of El Segundo. There are a lot of places to eat there and we will need to try them all. Parking is free, but mine the signs or you will not be happy. It is on the street. It will get crowded so make a reservation. You will be seated on time and the staff is great and will take good care of you from the minute you get there until they say goodbye. They know the menu well and can explain it all. They have a great menu and their selection of steaks can't be beat. They have a porterhouse which is so great. They also have huge streaks as well. What is really great is they have a few things we have never seen before. They have a Thai curry wagyu beef pasta that is just perfect. It has shaved wagyu filet, shimeji mushrooms, bell pepper, snow peas, rice noodles, and peanuts all in a yellow curry sauce. It is just great. You also need to try their halibut. Their sides are the best and you will love them all. This place really has it going. read more

This is hands down the best steakhouse in Southern California. We have been more than once and each time it was great. It is getting popular so make a reservation. This time we took my husband there for Father's Day. We got an early reservation so it was not crowded, but by the time we left it was full. Parking is easy on the street and for the most part free. This is a fine dining place so it is expensive and for 4 people we spent a little over $400.00--no alcohol. They have a beautiful full bar but we were not drinking. You can also go solo there and eat at the bar. The steaks here are the best as is all their food. They make their own rolls and they have an interesting vegan salad made with kale. Their coffee is just great. All of their sides are wonderful, but you must get their jumbo asparagus and their mashed potatoes. They also have great desserts, but add something chocolate please for those of us not fond of carmel or toffee. A must have is their starter crab cake. They have the best sauces for all their food and they are all made from scratch. The service is the best. You will want for nothing. They are so spot on and kind. We visited Porterhouse while in LA for the weekend to see a concert. We are so glad we did! We were greeted with a smile by the hostess and promptly seated in a nice booth. Our waiter arrived moments later to kindly greet us. We looked over the drink menus and he took our orders. They cocktails came and they were amazing. We ordered the Caesar salads for an appetizer and they were some of the freshest we have ver had. The dressing was fresh and unique, making it better than most we have ever had. On to dinner, one filet and one New York. Both came out a little under cooked, but after letting them rest for a few minutes, all was great. The mashed potatoes are a 100% yes when choosing a side, they were incredible. We went with the chocolate peanut butter dessert and the cookie bar, both were fresh and a perfect end to the meal. Came here for Valentine's Day and it did not disappoint. My girlfriend and I ordered the Waygu Filet Mignon and the Osso Buco so we could split and have some of each. Both were extremely delicious. The Osso Buco is only a Valentine's Day dish but the Waygu Filet is a dish they have all the time. The Waygu mignon was my preferred. We both had the crab cake as the appetizer and it was phenomenal. A hidden gem nestled in downtown El Segundo, Porterhouse is not only an amazing steakhouse, but an equally amazing tribute to a fallen hero Ron Porter. For starters, an Old Fashion with any one of their top shelf bourbons sets the mood, paired with the Elk Carpaccio which was simply mouth watering seasoned to perfection. Then the main course, I had the Wagyu Filet, my friend had the Wagyu New York Steak. Both were cooked med rare and served isolated on a warmed plate with a sprinkle of sea salt. Nothing else needed but we did order the Pan Roasted Mushrooms and Cheesy Potatoes sides which were great. Honestly, hands down the BEST filet and steak we've ever consumed. Came here to celebrate my husband's work achievement. Got a reservation day of and went 2 hours after booking. We both got the Prime Ribeye and fries. Prime Ribeye - First bite and I was shook. I don't even crave steak like this, but it was cooked perfectly and sooo tender. Wish there was sauce that came with it, but you have to order it on the side. Definitely recommend getting sauce since this piece of meat is very fatty. Fries - This item is not on the menu but you can order it on the side. It was nothing special and honestly, the fries tasted overdone. They skimped out BAD on the portion. We arrived when they opened for dinner to celebrate a birthday and were excited to try the Tuesday night feature (grilled pork chop). We were notified shortly after being seated at 5:30 that there was no pork chop available, which was disappointing because we arranged the dinner on a Tuesday so that we could order the special. We ended up ordering the duck breast and sea bass, and both were very good. The chef sent us a cheesy potato dish to make up for not having the special, which was very thoughtful. We also greatly enjoyed the complimentary birthday treat at the end of the meal, and the candle was a nice touch! My first time going to this little hidden gem and it was such a great experience. I think it's really only known by the locals so it doesn't get crazy crowded unless it's the weekend. I do still recommend making a reservation. The bar is so cute and has everything you could ask for and the wine selection is extensive. My husband brought me here for my 35th birthday dinner. Very cozy and intimate as soon as we walked in. We were greeted and seated right away since he made reservations. The service overall was wonderful and our server made great recommendations and answered any questions we had (portion sizes, favorites). Started with some drinks, I just remember ordering paper plane second and my husband had the old fashion. Both drinks were yummy ! We started by sharing the oysters on the half shell. We started off being the only table seated, but the restaurant quickly filled. It was a little loud with the interruptions from the party in the back, otherwise it was a nice quiet booth. Our server was helpful and patient while we decided our meal. It was uncommon that we were told that we had to order everything at once [apps, entrees, sides] per the chefs request. We ordered a bottle of French Bordeaux, a tomahawk to share, bleu cheese sauce, and a side of mushrooms as well. The wine was lovely and it was served by the waiter continuously (as it should be). We did notice we weren't offered to let our bottle breathe as the table behind us was, perhaps because the manager served their bottle and he specialized in wine. When our tomahawk came out, it was cooked beautifully as ordered. Though it wasn't the best cut we've had compared to other distributors. The bleu cheese sauce was the perfect companion to the beef. The mushrooms were not as great, the shallot was lost among the earthiness of the overall palette. My husband ended up dipping his in the sauce. We ended our meal with the butterscotch pot de crème and bread pudding. Both were fantastic, the pot de crème was the favorite. For dinner, we shared the ribeye with broccolini, mashed potatoes, and bread. The only dish worth raving about was the broccolini. The sauce was addicting, and we ended up dabbing some on the rest of our food to give it flavor. Everything else was underwhelming. The mashed potatoes were really salty, and I didn't like the seasoning on my steak because it overpowered the meat flavor. For dessert, we ordered the 100 Grand Bar, and it was absolutely divine! Highly recommend saving room for it. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience. I felt a bit of diner's remorse for ordering a $70 ribeye that was mediocre at best, but there were enough bright spots to warrant 4 stars. If I ever return, I'm having the wagyu burger. New Year's Eve dinner. Reservations required. Full house, even early around 6pm. We used OpenTable a month or so ago and it worked flawlessly. Greeting quickly at the door, given the choice of two different tables and picked the one in the back room, close to the fire pit (was looking for a better word for this as it is a very nice fire display). Once seated, quickly approached about water or bottled water. Server approached very soon after. Full, standard menu on NYE, which is great. Some places take advantage of the holidays to force a prix fixe menu on you, not here - thank you. As the name would suggest, Porterhouse, this is a steakhouse. Even though, the restaurant was named in honor of a retired firefighter named Porter. Porter's House...Porterhouse. Very appropriate, both ways. Several other entrees available and all plated very professionally. When you walk in, it has a great vibe, especially on a busy night. Bar area was full and buzzing. Most tables and booths filled, perfectly dimly lit but bright enough to see where you are walking and your dining partner. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, salmon entree, Wagyu New York strip and the fingerling potatoes. Crab cake is full of crab, slightly over grilled which required a knife to cut a few areas, but very flavorful and great to share for two. Salmon entree came with a Thai salad on top that had a slight kick. Salmon was prepared perfectly and very much enjoyed by my wife. I had the NY strip. It was cooked exactly as ordered and enjoyable. Not quite as flavorful and tender as I hoped for a Wagyu. I'll pick a filet on my next visit. The fingerling potatoes were just okay. The top few were good with the bacon and the garnish. Once that was gone, the ones below needed more flavor. I wound up taking them home, rewarming them for lunch the next day and just added a little salt and sour cream on the side. Worked out great. Two slight disappointments. First, when you are paying over $60 each for a steak dinner, you should be offered bread for free. Even if you just bring out a bread bowl and let the diner select one each. Charging for bread in this type of establishment is very disappointing. Corkage fee - yes, I understand that they prefer to make money selling their own wines but $35 for corkage is a bit much. Just my two cents. Will we be back? Yes. Should you try? I'd say yes as well. As someone who eats red meat infrequently, I didn't have high expectations going into the Porterhouse. I was blown away by the 18oz ribeye steak (ordered to be medium-well). Compared to generic steaks at other restaurants, this steak was tastefully charred, wonderfully tender, not too chewy, and well-flavored. We also ordered the fingerling potatoes and broccolini sides to add extra flavor to the meal. Sweater Weather (3/5) - I'm a sucker for coffee-based drinks, so this was an obvious choice for me. It was flat and one-note. Tasted mostly like oat milk. Lamb cheek (4/5)- balance struck well between the fatty lamb cheek, the rich braising liquid, the brightness of the radish, and the bitterness of celery. The lamb cheek effortlessly pulls apart and melts in your mouth. Really smart to pair it with the crunchy pickled celery. Delicious dish, but lamb cheeks are small cuts - I question whether a single lamb cheek should be considered a sufficient portion for a shareable starter. Crispy Skin Duck Breast (3/5)- Unfortunately, the cook on my duck was under. The center slice of the breast was borderline raw and chewy to oblivion. The skin also wasn't crispy. Despite that, I'm giving the dish 3/5 because that mole sauce was amazing. Rich, dark, earthy mole paired with the plantains (buried under a fistful of cilantro for some reason?). Despite the cook on the duck, I applaud the chef's creativity to pair duck and mole, and their decision to include it on the menu. Loved the concept of the dish, just missed on execution. 8oz Wagyu filet mignon (5/5)- it's a wagyu filet, you know what you're getting. Requested medium rare, and got medium rare. Very tender. Mashed potatoes (3/5)- standard fare, nothing special. Mushrooms (4/5)- generous portion of roasted medley of mushrooms. I'd order again. Caesar Brussel Sprouts (5/5)- with such a unique menu description, I had to order it. I can't tell if I loved it or not, but I kept going back for more. Is essentially a warm Caesar salad casserole - shaved brussel sprouts baked with Parmesan cheese, Caesar dressing, and a topped with crispy crouton crumble. Texturally balanced between the soft crunch of the sprouts, the gooey cheese, and the crispy crumble. Definitely a salty dish. I'm not sure if I'd necessarily recommend this dish because it feels like such an acquired taste. That being said, I would order it again for myself. 100 Grand Bar (4/5)- two very dense chocolate bars with little bits of walnut, crisped rice, and gold leaf served in a pool of caramel sauce. Very rich. In summary - I really wanted to love this place, but I left liking it. I'll definitely be back to see if they can earn that fifth star. read more

I have been to Porterhouse twice now and both times have been fantastic! I really love the energy here. It's less fufu and more hip than your average steak house. The service is elevated and the food is really special which makes you really feel you got your value. The bartenders here are top notch, you can get a real drink here made right, along with some fun non-alcoholic options. Our table waitress was super sweet and knowledgeable and the manager Richie stopped by to say hello. I was able to enjoy happy hour on my first visit and get out under $50, and when I came for a 3 course dinner it was surprisingly about $130 per person. It would probably be more if we indulged in wine but we we stuck to one cocktail each that night. Love it here. read more

This was a restaurant recommended by a friend who recently dined there. Everything was very nice about the restaurant beginning with the wait staff, and ambience and the food was amazing. They are known for their steaks and bourbons. My son is somewhat of a bourbon connoisseur and he ordered drinks for us. I had an old-fashioned that was well-made. I don't know the name of the bourbon, but it was nice and smooth. I ordered the Wagyu 12 ounce New York cut it was fabulous. We started with the Wagyu Steak Tartare mid the Saffron Poached Colossal Shirmp Cocktail, they were so very good! Loved them both! We order the a couple if Wagyu steaks, one Filet Mignon for Olga and the New York both from Margaret River, Australia. Let me tell you they were cooked perfect, Filet Medium and the NY Rare for me. We ordered two sides dishes to join them. The grill jumbo asparagus and the herded roasted garlic infused buttery mashed potatoes. They were great as well. Then we finished it off with a comped the 100 Grand Bar for Olga's Birthday and the Salted Caramel Butterscotch Pot De Creme!!! Enjoyed an excellent dinner at Porterhouse this week. It was my fourth visit to the restaurant and, this time, I brought my company CEO and some other executives with me. We started things off with a round of refreshing "The Jetty" cocktails (made with locally-headquartered NEFT Vodka) followed by the Brie & pear pastry, fried oyster, and pork belly appetizers. I usually despise fried oysters, but these were very good. The pork belly rivaled what you'd find at a good Shanghainese restaurant. Next up: wagyu filet, ribeyes, and the fish along with broccolini, potato wedges, and Mexican corn. The steaks were high-quality and perfectly cooked (didn't try the fish). The Mexican corn was a stand-out. Concluded the meal with the cheesecake and the Creme Brulee. This was the best trip of the four- Porterhouse has really hit its stride! Highly-recommend Porterhouse. Had marvelous experience at this place this evening. Beautiful modern interior with full bar. Our server Erin was very knowlegeable, attentive, and kept our table neat. Had pork belly and wagyu tartar appetizer which were perfectly flavored. Nothing too salty or too sweet. New York steak was very tender and that BLUE CHEESE DIPPING SAUCE was delish. We decided to try this place because of their whisky cocktail menu, and ofc drinks were great too. Tried 5 bourbon cocktails and none of them were bad. But...poweder sugar and crushed ice were missing on mint julep. Only downside was that we made a reservation for birthday dinner and they did checked our ID before ordering drinks. We also ordered a dessert but there was nothing celebratory... no candle no "happy birthday!" written on the dessert unlike other places. Just wonding What was the point of asking the occasion. Beautiful interior and back patio, whose vibes btw felt more like beachy Tulúm, Mexico -- it didn't match the warm, bricky atmosphere of the interior, but it worked and it was cozy and inviting. There's a fireplace. We loved that the drink menu was categorized as "whiskey cocktails" vs everything else. We ordered 4 different cocktails and everything was well-balanced and delicious. There's also a nice wine list. We started with a bowl of crab bisque -- excellent. We then had the wagyu beef bolognese -- this was good, but not spectacular. We found the papaparadelle slightly overcooked and we thought the English peas were unnecessary. The dish as a whole needed more of a zing as the flavor in general was rather monotonous. We also had the 8 oz filet mignon (medium rare) with Bearnaise sauce alongside grilled broccolini with miso vinaigrette. Wow -- the broccolini was so delicious -- crunchy yet tender with that miso tang -- we enjoyed this more than the steak itself. The steak, though seared and prepared to our liking, was good, but not mind-blowing. If you want mind-blowing filet mignon, book a res at Firefly in Studio City -- the BEST damn filet mignons in Los Angeles, hands-down!! The Bearnaise itself was all right. I typically love Bearnaise for its rich, creamy, tarragon-forward yumminess. It's a child of Hollandaise sauce, and who doesn't like Hollandaise? But the Bearnaise here was nothing special. In fact, there had to be something off about it as at 3:30 AM the next day, my stomach felt unsettled and I had diarrhea. Dinner here was the last meal we ate. My bestie, who dined with me, also said she had some stomach issues following our meal. There are eggs in Bearnaise, and maybe they were bad. Our server was attentive, but not all that conversational. He basically came, took our order, checked in on our drinks, we ordered more drinks, and he cleared our plates. That was it. He never even offered us a dessert menu! We're not big on sweets, but it would have been nice to see what they had for post-dinner treats. Book a res and specify whether or not you want indoors or outdoors -- I wasn't given a choice at the time I made a last minute res. There is plenty of free street parking just outside the restaurant.
