Oh, how TIKI DAVE from TIKI DAVE TRAVEL loves this place which has certainly become a mecca of tiki for me....as you can tell from all of my reviews. At the end of my daughter's 17th birthday celebration, she chose Tiki Kai and walking on the beach to seal the day. So clearly, I raised her right. The wife, boy and I stayed for a drink while the birthday girl and her friend went for a walk on the beach. My wife didn't want to be in the lovely interior this time because she was cold and it was so nice outside. It was the first time we've been able to sit at the booth surrounding the firepit and yes, of course, I asked the manager Chris to light it up. The interior is where you're transported to an otherworldly tiki paradise but the outside ain't bad either and even though we didn't have marshmallows, the firepit is great. Service is always fantastic and we even got an extra alcoholic Dole Whip which my rascally 14-year old son almost drank. I'm kidding; he didn't order that but they did bring one with alcohol first by accident...which I ended up thoroughly enjoying. The frosty texture and pineapply goodness made for a very fine tropical beverage and how they really should make 'em at The Tiki TIki TIki Room at Disneyland. But of course, The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room is already perfect so... As my 14-year old son points out in my video, they now serve the MONKEYPOD MAI TAI so we (the wife and I, not him) had to get it. I'm sure there's got to be some kind of copyright on this drink (even though I've successfully bootlegged it at home....and subsequently got sick on Day 2 drinking it...watch the vid for the full story) and I'm impressed that Mai Kai may have been given "permission" to duplicate it from the Hawaiian chain of restaurants. And it is absolutely perfect, complete with the Lilikoi (Passionfruit) foam "poop emoji" swirl on top (as my wife commented on my video). I have given up making them at home (for fear of going to the hospital....again) so I can't wait to go back to Tiki Kai to have another round. We had a nice conversation with the manager, Chris, around the firepit too and they brought out a birthday dessert for my daughter, too! We've passed by Tiki Kai many times while doing our walks at Hermosa Pier, and we finally decided to stop and grab dinner here recently. Since we had our pooch with us, we sat on the outdoor patio. I later discovered while using the restroom that the indoor seating actually has even BETTER tiki decor! So if you're into the whole tiki vibe, definitely check out the inside too. I started with the Ube Colada. I have to admit, I didn't really taste any ube, and it wasn't purple either. It was still refreshing, though, and leaned more toward the pineapple side. For food, we shared the Pupu Combo appetizer with wings, ribs, and shrimp. The wings were my favorite of the three. We also shared an entree of chicken skewers. Since the skewers don't come with a side, our waitress suggested adding a noodles or rice dish. We went with the garlic noodles, which were tasty but felt pretty greasy and heavy after eating them. Next time, I'd probably try the rice instead. Overall, I think you're coming to Tiki Kai more for the beach view and tiki vibes than for a destination meal--and there's nothing wrong with that! It's a fun spot to sit back, enjoy the atmosphere, and have a drink in your hand while taking in the Hermosa beach scene. Tiki Kai is in a terrific location- on the walkway to the pier in Hermosa Beach. You can't miss the striking patio seating area- very cleverly designed to invite guests onto the Islands. Inside, the space is smaller, more intimate- and a feast for the eyes! Everywhere you look is evidence of thoughtful design. The torches, lanterns, Tikis, carvings, and drinking vessels are gorgeous. The lighting is dim, and evokes feelings of moonlit beaches, balmy nights and scents of coconut and rum. A feast for the eyes is one thing- but a feast for the tummy is crucial. And feast it was! Our entire table loved every dish we tried! We were off to a great start with a Pupu Platter of sticky ribs, Crispy Rice, and Firecracker Shrimp - all delicious. We followed with Huli Hili Chicken, Pi Le Hu Rib Eye (served with a wonderful sautéed Gai Lan), Coconut Curry Mussels (tantalizingly different flavor than any mussels I've previously had), Garlic Noodles (to die for), and soft on the inside, crispy on the outside Yuca Fries. As dish after dish arrived at our table, our server paid close attention to replenishing our water glasses as well as our most-creative adult beverages, bringing clean plates and utensils as needed, and making sure we were happy with our menu choices. Had the opportunity to go back to Tiki Kai after Chris reached out to apologize for the staff not having brought up dietary options sooner. I have to say my experience back was awesome. I do want to preface this by saying everyone should eat where they are comfortable, but that being said the staff was incredibly thoughtful in making sure everything was safely prepared. Savannah (sp) was an incredible server who was very well versed in gluten free options. The menu for GF options was quite expansive which was incredibly impressive. I think my favorite part was that my NA drink (Diet Coke) came in a fun tiki cocktail glass which was so fun and such a nice touch. Overall, the food was 10/10, the service was 10/10, and the ambiance 10/10. So happy we took the opportunity to go back. This is definitely a place I'll be coming back to moving forward. read more

We tried the DineLA restaurant week menu for Tiki Kai and it was very good! Timing of the food coming out could've been better. We waited a very long time for the salad then just as we were finishing the salad the appetizer came out. And unfortunately if you opted for the DineLA everyone at the table has to do it too. Strange since you'd think if two of four people wanted DineLA and the other two wanted a higher priced entree from the standard menu would be more beneficial for the restaurant and server for a higher check but I guess not. This was my third visit since November, with each one being progressively better. If you tried it early on, it is worth revisiting. The drinks were very well balanced this time, which was previously my main gripe. Drinks - Navy Grog 5/5: They have it down now; the blend really tickles the pallet, with a splash of tart citrus at the end. The honey adds bodyband a note of sweetness, without making it a sugar bomb. - Mai Tai 4.5/5: More mint than I am used to, but in a pleasant way, with a sweet citrus body and almost herbal finish. *Their Monkey Pod Mai Tai looked spot on, but I was told the orgeat was almond instead of macadamia Food - Jidori Fried Chicken Sandwich 3.5/5: The texture was great: juicy yet crispy, but the slaw sort of overpowered the other flavors, and the mango (I think) was not ripe. I thought that it was just renamed, but I did notice any of the buttermilk flavor from last time - Oahu Burger 3/5: The patty was thick and I enjoyed the grilled pineapple, but a little bit of the fermented gpchu aioli can go a looong way. I will likely venture to the Ocean side of the menu next time. We sat out front, at the kidney shaped table. As expected, conversations were not private and service was a bit slower. However, the weather was great and the faux plants grew on us throughout the evening. Special thanks to Michael F., who took care of our area towards the end. We went to Tiki Kai during Fiesta Hermosa, they had a short wait, but it was absolutely worth it! The place is amazing on the inside, very nice decor, and ambiance! The service Alex gave us made us feel home, and welcomed! The drinks were delicious, I had the Dole Whip, and it was fantastic. The food was so good!!! I love Hermosa Beach. This was my go to spot for bar hopping back in the day. I wanted to check out Tiki Kai that just opened in November. Came here on a Thursday night and was able to get drinks before they close at 11PM. Love the tropical decor inside and outside, giving island vibes for sure. Was out in Hermosa meeting people for brunch, and Tiki Kai was literally across the street, so I made a quick reservation and we headed over after brunch to indulge in some tiki culture and libations. First, there is indoor and outdoor seating, so where you sit is up to you. But unsure is where all the decor and gives are, so I'd say drink indoors and enjoy the whole ambiance. If you choose to sit at the bar, some of the drinks come with a show, like a fire show, so if you're into that, or want fun videos to put on IG or Tik Tok, the bar may be the way to go. The drinks were, as tiki drinks tend to be, delicious. Great mixture of spirits with tropical juices, with other ingredients. They also just added the Monkey Pod Mai Tai, which the Money Pod is a restaurant bar in Maui known for their Mai Tai, which is topped with a lilikoi (passion fruit) foam. The PK HB is their version of a Painkiller, also very good. And the Ube Your Thirst, which I'm not really an Uber person, was very good, much better then I thought it would be. We also tried other cocktails, ask tasty and we'll balanced. Wonderful menu for Dine LA! We went for lunch and it comes with a salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert all for $35 a person. We added a mini Ube cocktail for an extra $5. I've been during a dinner rush at a table, and now during the day at the bar top and the service is still excellent! Our bartender Will recommended the perfect order for our afternoon. For food the coconut curry mussels and hamachi crudo were easily our favorite dishes -- both were SO good and absolutely coming back to get them again. Huge tiki fan here and I've had Tiki Kai on my list for a bit. This is the prettiest, newest looking tiki bar I've ever been to. The attention to detail is beyond comparable - from the fixtures hanging above the bar, to the little details decorating the dining area and the lights behind the bar. Everything is so well thought out and fully instagrammable. The place is huge too with plenty of seating outside and in but you must at least sit inside once to appreciate all the effort put into the decor. We ordered a tiki drink, beer and the Crab Rangoon appetizer and the service was quick and friendly. The tiki drink, the Jet Pilot, was a rum drink that came out on fire. So fun! And the crab rangoons came out swimming in a sweet chili sauce that was perfect. We will come back for dinner next time. Parking is tough because you are at the pier but there is a free garage right behind the restaurant that you might get lucky enough to find a spot in. I loved this place! Tried it for the first time with a large group and had almost the whole menu (so this is a real review lol). We were a big group so I know it's tough, but we had two servers for our table and they were on it! The espresso cocktail was the drink of the night, would go back just for that! This is such a cute little place. I haven't been to Hermosa Beach in years but we came here to celebrate a friends bday, it was 9 of us. We had reservations for the indoor/outdoor fire pit at 6pm but we weren't seated until almost 630pm. The host said Saturday is one of their busiest nights so be prepared for that if you plan on being a walk-in. It was pretty packed. However, even with it being crowded the attentiveness of the servers was superb. Now the food. We got 2 pupu platters. You have the option of 5 items or 3 items. You have a wide variety of things you can put on the pupu platters which we appreciated. We had wings, shrimp, ribs, & crispy rice. We also ordered additional sides like fries, cucumbers, and garlic noodles. I also had the tuna bowl and another friend had a burger. All the food was good. Most everything on the menu is designed to be shared so that worked out for it being 9 of us. We also had drinks and they were good. Went with some friends when we were in the area. We got outside seating which was nice. Very busy on a Saturday night, definitely recommend reservations. Easy to find street parking in the area. Each drink is served in a different vessel. Between our table I was able to sample most of their drinks, and all were excellent and not too sweet unlike at many Tiki spots. Devil of the deep, senorita pico and lychee martini was great. We also really enjoyed their food. I went on a date here with my boyfriend, we had a reservation at 5pm. Arrived early to check in and was seated by 5pm. When we were seated we did not receive service for 15 minutes until we contacted a host about this issue, immediately he resolved this and got us our server. The drinks are tasty, the food was good. I was kind of expecting an edamame to be on the menu as an appetizer, might be a nice addition to add because the menu felt like it was missing some things. My sole whip drink was perfectly frozen and stayed cold long a the perfect consistency. The indoor dining room is decorated nicely. I wish the service was better in the beginning of our time here, we ended up having to extend our parking time due to the delay. With that said, had this trip been singularly about drinks I would have started a petition to give this place 6 Stars. The drink menu was very robust both on the alcoholic and non-alcoholic front. That was my only drink of the evening but there were at least 5 other drinks on the menu that I hope to go back and try at some point. The food was a bit underwhelming in my (our) opinion. The tropical slaw was solid and the meat was well-prepared, but I did desire a bit more seasoning and/or sauce-driven flavoring. My wife got the huli huli chicken and the garlic noodles. The chicken was not bad but the pricing relative to portion size didn't quite add up for us. I will say folks should try to garlic noodles but they should surely expect a pasta-like dish. The ambiance is very cool with fabulous decor. Our server Savannah was really sweet and provided good service. Their giant tiki drink "mates and crew" is delicious and perfectly balanced between alcohol and flavor. Food however is not great. While the octopus was tender, the hummus was gritty and watery and the seasoning just wasn't there. I've had something similar at other restaurants, but Tiki Kai missed the mark. The rice lacks flavor other than a cheap butter substitute, this felt as though it had been boxed. The fries were good, but fries are difficult to get wrong.
