This is such a cute little place. I haven't been to Hermosa Beach in years but we came here to celebrate a friends bday, it was 9 of us. We had reservations for the indoor/outdoor fire pit at 6pm but we weren't seated until almost 630pm. The host said Saturday is one of their busiest nights so be prepared for that if you plan on being a walk-in. It was pretty packed. However, even with it being crowded the attentiveness of the servers was superb. Now the food. We got 2 pupu platters. You have the option of 5 items or 3 items. You have a wide variety of things you can put on the pupu platters which we appreciated. We had wings, shrimp, ribs, & crispy rice. We also ordered additional sides like fries, cucumbers, and garlic noodles. I also had the tuna bowl and another friend had a burger. All the food was good. Most everything on the menu is designed to be shared so that worked out for it being 9 of us. We also had drinks and they were good. Wonderful outdoor patio, excellent service, and solid food on the Hermosa Beach pier. Greeted with "aloha" by the hostess, (the patio is dog friendly). Interior is very cool, dark, and had a "lava flow" floor light guiding you to the bathroom. Drinks and food were tropical themed, so we went with some mai tais to start. The mixed drinks were ok, but we switched to wine after one drink. We started with the chicken karaoke, which was not very crisp, but the meat was quite moist. I chose the duroc pork chop which came in a very sweet brown butter sauce. The chop was nicely done but I would have preferred it without any of the sauce. It was like eating a dessert sauce on my entrée. My friends were going to order the prawns, but our very smart waiter told us it came with 3 prawns and nothing else, whereas they could order the garlic noodles with added shrimp and it actually cost less than just the prawns. Two of my friends ordered his suggestions and loved it! I tasted their plates and lived the noodles too! Another friend ordered the huli huli chicken and fried rice which he enjoyed, taking the leftovers home. I went on a date here with my boyfriend, we had a reservation at 5pm. Arrived early to check in and was seated by 5pm. When we were seated we did not receive service for 15 minutes until we contacted a host about this issue, immediately he resolved this and got us our server. The drinks are tasty, the food was good. I was kind of expecting an edamame to be on the menu as an appetizer, might be a nice addition to add because the menu felt like it was missing some things. My sole whip drink was perfectly frozen and stayed cold long a the perfect consistency. The indoor dining room is decorated nicely. I wish the service was better in the beginning of our time here, we ended up having to extend our parking time due to the delay. I came with my partner for our anniversary dinner on 4/19/26. The experience was a 10/10 from start to finish. Host staff was attentive and friendly, and our Server was professional and knowledgeable on the menu. I wish I remembered her name! We sat in the corner 2top facing the bar. Another fantastic experience at Tiki Kai! The boy and I had 4pm dinner reservations yesterday and were seated at a high top right across the middle of the magnificent bar; perfect seats and another time being serviced by the amazing Kelly who is super helpful, kind and super attentive. The boy ordered a virgin Wavemaker (Blue Hawaii) and I had a Navy Grog and Revenant (my go-to even if more of a Speakeasy drink but amazing). Great drinks and as always, incredible replenishment of water and we drink a lot of water! For dinner, we shared the crispy rice with spicy tuna appetizer ($23 and awesome) and the Oahu Burger ($19) with fermented gochu aioli & grilled pineapple on a brioche bun. We ordered the burger rare and it was really, really good. The boy and I felt there could have been a little more pineapple and gochu aioli on it but it was freakin delicious all the same. Maybe make sure to ask for extra aioli. We certainly had enough to eat but maybe I could have used a french fry or two also...the burger does not come with them. Burgers need fries, amiright? First off, make a reservation. It was packed when we arrived. We waited maybe 20ish minutes after we checked in for our reservation. We had a lovely outdoor table. The decorations are nice and the inside is crazy cool. Next time I'll request inside seating. Food was outstanding. We ordered the appetizer sampler with 3 options, the garlic noodles, and the pork chop. The ambiance is very cool with fabulous decor. Our server Savannah was really sweet and provided good service. Their giant tiki drink "mates and crew" is delicious and perfectly balanced between alcohol and flavor. Food however is not great. While the octopus was tender, the hummus was gritty and watery and the seasoning just wasn't there. I've had something similar at other restaurants, but Tiki Kai missed the mark. The rice lacks flavor other than a cheap butter substitute, this felt as though it had been boxed. The fries were good, but fries are difficult to get wrong. This is a fun tiki place :) It's new, it's got good food and drink. A must visit if you're in Hermosa Beach. First thing, book a reservation online. This is a very popular spot already. So... book ahead. The service was attentive, professional, and courteous. So be kind back to them, please. The obvious main draw are the Tiki Drinks and if you booked ahead like I mentioned-- you will have some creatively presented drinks for you to order. It makes the occasion that much more fun in an instant :). The food is actually really good too which is a welcomed surprise. Not all tiki places serve food, let alone solid bites. Tiki Kai arguably makes you wonder which is better-- the food or the drinks? The space indoors is a little cramped but it works. There is also a lot of outdoor seating which is perfect for a nice way to cap off the day by the beach. I would recommend coming here; especially if you haven't tried this place already. Great tiki bar right on Hermosa pier. It's a great spot for tiki cocktails and food. I had the octopus with hummus that was braised well and didn't have the rubbery texture at all. I love Tiki Kai! It truly transports you to Hawaii. If I close my eyes and take a bite of the Mai Mai I'm feel like I'm sitting on the beach in Maui. And don't forget the purple potatoes it comes with. So delicious! Also you must try to Baked Alaskan. I think about it all the time. Wow. They did an amazing job transforming the space into a legit tiki room. The ambiance and decor are absolutely top notch. I have been wanting to try Tiki Kai for a while, and my wife managed to get us a reservation on Valentine's Day no less. It turned into a full family party since my daughter and her fiancé were visiting from the East Coast and my college aged son was home for the weekend. From the moment we walked in, I loved the decor and the music. It immediately set the stage for high expectations, and the vibe did not disappoint. Service was very friendly and welcoming, which made the whole experience even better. I am still dry Januarying into February, so I stuck with sparkling water, but my glass was refilled and swapped out frequently, which I appreciated. The rest of the crew went all in on the tiki drinks, including a Mai Tai and a lychee martini. The martini was a bit too sweet for my wife's liking, but they remade it without hesitation and were very gracious about it. We ordered the pu pu platter and it was delicious. Ribs, crispy rice, crab rangoons, chicken wings, and chicken skewers all hit the spot. I was genuinely pleased with the quality of the food. We also shared a couple of burgers and some fries, which were excellent. For dessert we had the baked Alaska. It was well executed, even if it was not quite my personal favorite. One small suggestion since there were five of us. A few of the dishes came with four pieces, which makes sense for many groups, but it would be helpful if there were an option to add an extra piece for a modest charge. Maybe that is available and we just did not realize it, but it would have been nice to know so no one was doing the polite last piece dance. The only other downside was the men's room. It is one at a time, and there was a line when I arrived, so washing my hands took a bit of patience. When I finally got in, there was a noticeable urine smell. It was not anything worse, just clearly a pee odor, which feels like something that could be addressed fairly easily with a bit more attention. This place is one of the newest bars in downtown Hermosa Beach. My friend and I have been so excited to try this place so we came together on a Monday night. Be sure to get reservations or it will be hard to get a table. Our waiter was very attentive and overall, really great bar food. Tropical Ceviche - I enjoyed the fruit aspect of this ceviche and it was a good amount of food for the price. Nothing that stood out a ton about this, there are definitely better dishes here. Chicken Kaarage - Stayed crispy throughout the meal but wish there was an acidic element to the chicken or sauce. Super umami and great to share with friends. Crab Rangoon - Our waiter recommended this to us and said that it was made with real and not imitation crab. Usually it's made with imitation crab so I wanted to try out this version. It was crispy on the outside and so creamy on the inside, but unfortunately there wasn't a lot of crab flavor. It was still great! Sticky Ribs -These pork ribs tasted like it was braised in soy sauce and some honey. Pretty solid and great accompaniment to the garlic noodles. Wish they gave more for the price, but yummy! Garlic Noodles - This is the dish that surprised me the most. This is the must get here and my waiter recommended this to my friend and I. I had relatively low expectations for a new tiki bar, but they knocked it out of the park! I love the decor, with all the intricate carvings and tiki lamps and skulls. Its dark and glowy and comfortable, with volcanic rock and tapa cloth and bamboo and mid-century touches. The Seabird was like a Jungle Bird but more pineappley, and it totally worked. The Mai Tai is not my favorite, though I like that it comes with a mint garnish. Just a bit too noisy and tart for me. The pork chop comes prepared medium although you can customize the temperature. I thought medium was perfect and really liked the apple glaze and the later of fat on the meat (and on the bone they played it with). I made a reservation a month ago. I arrived on time but due to the parking structure being closed, it took my friends a little longer. All okay! I checked in and they told me that they were getting my table ready. I asked if we could sit inside which I was quoted a 30-45 minute wait. I opted to sit outside. I checked in after 15-17 minutes to ask if I could sit at the table since it was a little chilly. There were heat lamps around the patio but not near the bench by the host stand. They told me they were setting the table up. Mind you? I see there are two other tables empty, on the patio, in plain sight. My friends arrive, and at that moment, they tell me they're not able to seat me until the entire party is here. Again, mind you, this is the first time they've said this. My friend went down to the cafe to say hi to a friend. It shouldn't have been a big deal considering the hostess made me wait 17-ish minutes for a table (with a reservation). We are all together, and before sitting down, a random woman apologies for the wait. I appreciate this but one, I do not know who you are. It caught me off guard and didn't seem very professional. She added to let her know if we needed anything but again, who is this lady? Once we sat down and we were settled, it didn't get better. Unfortunately. The table next to us asked for our fourth chair but we were using it for our items. They bantered back and forth and was rude about letting us know they weren't happy with my response of "yes, we are using it". It isn't my fault that they didn't make a reservation for the proper amount of people (nonetheless should be allowed to have additional people to join them considering how strict it was before I sat down). Waitress came to check in and took our drink order. She didn't know the list of tequilas Tiki had and showed me a written down list. Again, not professional. This place has been open for months and servers should know what is being served or options. We ordered our drinks, where a friend ordered an ice tea. She specifically asked for sweetener, and nothing arrived. We asked again, in which she brought over sugar cubes. She explained they didn't have sugar or sweetener. This is something all restaurants should have for customers. We ordered the Pupu platter with 5 options of ribs, karagae, hamachi, wings, and shrimp. All of them were delicious. I feel like there could have been more hamachi but it is what it is. I asked for another drink and a refill for the ice tea. Nothing came. When I flagged down our server, she stated that she came by and we told her no drinks. I'm not sure what the miscommunication was but the proper response would be "my mistake, I'll grab you another drink" and move on. The ambiance inside was beautiful but not many tables are available. There's a festive decor by the bar. It's darker and the music is a bit louder. The patio is oddly designed. If it was me, I would make this a cocktail area and take away the large island bar. Overall, I would not be back. It's great to have new restaurants on the pier but there's a lack of professionalism, and overrated for the price. The hubby and I had such a great time here last night! The decor was absolutely gorgeous. Very kitschy but with a fun, modern, retro vibe. My table did not enjoy their drinks and for the price of the food, I was not impressed with the flavors. I had the Mahi Mahi. Other nearby restaurants I think would be better for fish. Extremely pleased!!!! Kim was excellent. We came on Wednesday. We did not have a reservation and the hostess was very friendly. Thank you for such a great experience. We wanted an overall experience and we had one. We love the aesthetics. It was dim which made it romantic. We did not experience any slowness, rudeness or disrespect. The firecracker shrimp hit the spot. We did get two drinks. The hubby and daughter shared one big one. And I had the ube vodka drink .... OMMMMGGGGG it was soooooooo good. We will definitely be back for more. We didn't want to take too much of the restaurants time as we did not have a reservation and did not want to back them up with us having been seated. Smiles all around. Everyone was just very pleasant. Nothing like the first time we came. Everyone needs to come back and give this place a shot. All new places have little hiccups and we shouldn't hold them responsible for one person unless it's the owner lol. However, we were beyond pleased. Food and drinks came quick. Parking is tough. It's the beach... it's what's expected. We cannot wait to come back and taste more of the menu. Pricing is great. Very doable. read more
