Where do I begin? Old Tony's isn't for everyone, and you can tell by the mixed reviews. But for me, it's an absolute gem. I love everything about it--the nostalgia, the worn carpet, the old solid wood chairs, the smell, the smiles, the conversations, and even those seagulls waiting for food at the windows. Every bit of the atmosphere has its own charm. Give me all of it! That said, I want to focus on two things: the food and the service. Food The menu is classic and dependable, with a few daily specials mixed in. I get it...it may not be the most unforgettable meal you'll ever have, but it's consistently solid. The steaks come out with beautiful grill marks and great flavor. The baked potatoes are a 10/10and those giant Idaho russets are divine! The house salad is another winner, topped with house dressing, egg, and bay shrimp. Honestly, can I get all larger portion of this, please! The lobster has always been one of my dad's favorites. It's his go-to order, and he loves dipping every bite into that melted butter. Overall, I'd rate the food a 7.5/10. Good, satisfying, and exactly what I expect when I come here. Service Now let's talk about the service. In the dozen or more times I've dined here, I've never had a bad experience. But this last visit was truly unforgettable. Our waitress, Lora, was amazing in every way. Her smile, genuine care, and attention to detail didn't feel rehearsed or taught...it all came so naturally. The bar at Old Tonys feels very familiar, very friendly. Came for a drink and struck up a conversation with others at the bar and everyone had the same experience - you feel welcome. The restrooms are small, the bar is well stocked, and the bartender is generous with the pour. I didn't make it upstairs for the food/lounge area but downstairs is very quaint and not too crowded or loud. It's definitely a nice spot to have a drink and conversation without yelling over obnoxious music. read more

What a massive disappointment this place turned out to be. Warm beer, nasty, old man bartender, rude waitress. We looked forward to coming here all week, and these two ruined our Saturday. I asked if they had any colder beer for the next round, and this "bartender" told me I was free to leave if I didn't like it. What?? That was it. No round 2, or 3, no dinner....we just left. The unprofessionalism was astounding. Such a shame. This place is beautiful, but when the service is consistently so unbelievably awful, and the beer is NEVER cold, it's time to find another spot to enjoy the view. I would say come here for the vibes, views, and nostalgia. The food is ok, but pretty overpriced for what it is. I got the coconut shrimp lunch combo, which came with clam chowder and a side. The clam chowder was pretty good. I appreciated that the table bread came with whipped butter. The coconut shrimps were fine but I made the mistake of getting "veggies" as my side. It was steamed broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots, but the kind that you get from a steamed bag from the frozen grocery aisle.. I'll stick with fries next time. The combo was $24, was one of the more affordable things on the menu. I got a window seat though, which opened right out to the water, so it was worth it to just hear the waves and enjoy the atmosphere during lunch. The servers were nice and attentive. Went to this restaurant wed night with my gf she hadn't had it in years and we had the most horrible experience when we got there the hostess girl told us we couldn't sit at a table that sat four because there was only 2 of us mind you the table for 2 is tiny so we got nothing but attitude from her and had to pull a stink to the point she tells my gf we'll sit wherever then very rude. After that I wanted fried oysters as the waitress says they didn't have them which her attitude wasn't pleasant either seemed as she didn't want to work there. My gf ordered the combination plate which as soon as she got to the shrimp she said it tasted like baking soda and she felt nauseous. Minutes later she gets up and tells me she had to throw up. Which she did and said she didn't want her food. We then asked to speak to a manager as she took one oath off the bill. For the price you pay on appetizers, one would think the food was freshly made in-house, sadly the food is not very good. The food comes across like something you would find in the freezer section of the grocery store. The order of coconut shrimp was dark brown, soggy with oil, and tasted like it had been pulled from a plastic freezer bag. Not at all what I was expecting. Being that this place is literally a stones throw from a fresh seafood market, I would think the menu would reflect fresh and local catch options. My family celebrated many family special occasions here and my mom, now that my dad has passed wanted to have a family dinner. What a disappointment. The food was absolutely low quality, the salmon chowder does not taste smoked, the calamari steak was not edible. I asked our waiter who was an absolute gentleman if the restaurant had changed ownership, he said it was still owned by the same family. They need to take a very close look at their menu and elevate their game or I don't see how they will keep up with the competition. I'm sad I will never eat here again. I first came to Tony's on the Pier with my parents in the 70s. The last time was in the late 80s. I ended up living in the West San Fernando Valley so Redondo Beach became a schlep for us. So it was a treat to go once again with friends from Long Beach. We had the best time. Melik was our server and he was outgoing and cheerful. He never rushed us. Our meals were good. They came with soup and salad. We ordered drinks and there was bread placed on the table. The food was abundant, warm and flavorful. The clam chowder was excellent as was the smoky salmon chowder. I had the seafood fettuccine. There were large shrimps and crab meat. So good. I took half of it home. The place is old school decor but really fun. We had a great table and good service. We ordered the Mozzarella Marinara and Fish & Chips (comes with soup, salad, and side), and Raspberry Cosmo. The Mozzarella Marinara was okay, it was cheesy, but I didn't taste much of the breadcrumbs. The salmon soup and salad were good, nothing special. The bartender Ian? Skinny, goofy looking, middle aged white guy is very unprofessional and unpleasant. He said he "didn't like our vibe and didn't want to deal with" and refused service. Which I would understand if we had done something to actually be treated that way. He immediately had attitude when we sat down and if I'm being honest he was the one with an "off vibe" lol.
