Best burger in South Bay and likely all of Los Angeles. Everyone's got their own taste but let me explain why I was immediately hooked. You walk in and have to get a lay of the land. It's not immediately clear that this place is bar service only. No servers walking around is your first hint. We sat at the bar and soaked in the atmosphere. This place has been around for nearly 100 years and it shows in all the best ways. The bar area and the lively room show off decades of history and love from all the patrons. The worn wood cabinets holding a well stocked bar show just how well used this place has been -- BUT it's also incredibly clean. I'd say this was the cleanest dive bar I've ever been to. Vinny took our order. He was zipping around the bar running that place like it was the Navy. Excellent service. He's half the reason we'll be back. The other half.. you guessed it. The burger is charbroiled in-house with fresh meat from right next door. I can only imagine that's what makes these burgers sing. Nothing is an afterthought. Crisp fresh lettuce, a nice thick slice of tomato, and classic condiments served on a paper tray with the thinnest napkins made on earth. It was a culinary delight. Great bar. Great burger! It's refreshing to see an unpretentious neighborhood bar with locals kicking back enjoying a beer amid the high end MB stores and restaurants. Don't be fooled by appearances, Ercoles 1101 is one GEM of a place. If you don't want to go inside to order your burger, then they do have a window where you can place your order while you wait outside. So do yourself a favor and stop by Ercoles 1101 whenever you find yourself in Manhattan Beach. I skipped the cheese today because this was an after dinner meal. The hamburger is simple yet executed perfectly. The star of the show is definitely the hamburger patty - incredibly juicy and packed with flavor. However, I did notice that the juices weren't evenly distributed. They cut the burger in half for you, and I suspect it would benefit from resting a bit longer before being sliced. For the best experience, you might want to request they skip the cut and let it sit for a few minutes before diving in. Having tried burgers from Proudly Serving, Corner Burger and HiHo (Santa Monica), I can confidently say this one ranks at the top.
