Came in for a quick lunch during my Christmas stay-cation at the Belamar. Second Story is just that, the hotel's restaurant located on the second floor. Filled with lots of natural light through large glass windows where you can see the palm trees dancing in the breeze. I was greeted with a big smile and hello from Antonio who was so pleasant and recommended the Flat Iron Steak. I love that he asked how I liked it cooked and was served perfectly as requested (medium rare). It was served on a fresh ciabatta roll that was nicely grilled for the perfect crunch. The steak was dressed with fresh arugula and tomato with a flavorful chimichurri sauce that interestingly had grilled onions as well. The steak was juicy, perfectly seasoned and cooked and overflowing nicely from the roll, definitely well portioned. I opted for the green salad as my side, which was served separately (which was nice), and filled with fresh mix lettuce, carrots and cherry tomatoes, cucumber and ranch dressing. The restaurant had some games for kids to entertain them which is great for families, especially while away from home. They offer a full bar and specialty coffees as well. This was a great way to start my Monday morning my work week well short work week as I am still on my weekend trip to LA. This whole hotel is very nostalgic so the restaurant on the second floor of course get the same vibe very 50s very old Hollywood quaint was great. The servers were intentive, complementary even. I started with coffee with a couple of refills and then move forward to the all American breakfast with vegetarian sausage which I was very happy to have an option of over easy eggs soft with a side of potatoes which for like baby white potatoes, some sautéed onions and peppers. They were boiled then maybe likely sautéed and I heard one of the other tables request theirs have a little crisp and I wish I've known that.... Very nice thick slice of sourdough bread toast. I came here for a final drink before retreating to my room. The wine selection is decent and I had a good glass of cab. The crinkle fries were amazing! Great portion, lots of bacon and the cheese sauce was so good! Unfortunately the ambiance isn't great. The lighting was crazy bright so I kind of felt like I was in an operating room. And the bartender initially told me they already did last call for food. 10 minutes later someone came in and the other bartender told them they were still serving food. As a Hilton Gold member, I had $18 per person credit to use at this restaurant and so we dined here on a weekend morning bright and early for a la carte selection of breakfast (otherwise starting at 9:30 it's an AYCE buffet style brunch for about $30). I ordered the avocado toast with comes with a hard boiled egg (exactly $18). Since it was early, we got our pick of the table and the staff was very attentive and fast. It was almost the perfect breakfast although part of the toast was pretty burnt on one corner. Otherwise the avocado spread tasted fresh and perfectly salted, the hard boiled egg slices and the arugula and pickled onion topping were a nice balance. Before I checked in, I needed a place to work remotely, and the staff went above and beyond to help me connect to the Wi-Fi. They were incredibly attentive, making sure my coffee cup was always full. I ordered waffles and eggs--both were delicious, though I only managed to snap a photo of the waffles! A unique touch was the check, which is presented inside a book where guests are encouraged to leave a note. Overall, it's a charming spot for both work and a great meal. read more

Wings were perfectly spiced and juicy! Calamari was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. Perfectly cooked! Mom had the fish and chips. 3 huge portions of juicy thick pieces of fish covered with an extra crunchy batter! The batter they use is delicious!! It even stays crunchy 20 minutes after serving. What ever they use it's delicious! My lovely wife had the cob salad and said the chicken was juicy and the greens were crisp and fresh. My beautiful daughter had the salmon and said it was delicious! Very moist and juicy. I had the Nashville hot Chicken sandwich. Tasty filets covered in a slightly spicy sauce. Yummy! For dessert we had ice cream. We had vanilla and chocolate. When I'm in town for work travel, I like staying at The Belamar Hotel for many reasons (close to my office, clean and comfortable, etc.) including another chance to visit Second Story. The restaurant is literally situated on the second floor of the hotel so you can take the stairs or elevator to get up there. The menu offers small plates, full blown entrees, and a variety of signature cocktails to choose from. Their Horseradish Crusted Roasted Seabass is fantastic and the clam chowder is a good pick if you're looking for something warm before ending the day. I hear they have an excellent Happy Hour but have never been able to make it. I would certainly recommend Second Story for those looking for an appetizing meal. read more

Came here tonight for Valentine's Day, and was unfortunately super disappointed. The food was mid, service was not great and to top it off; why are you bring dessert out 6 mins after setting the main entree down at the table? We felt pushed to rush and it sucked on a romantic evening. It seemed maybe they were short staffed possibly. Manager was helping with everything. Bartender was also taking tables all over the place. I had my baby shower here in February. I can't rave enough about how AMAZING the staff is. John, Antonio, and Melendez all catered to my party and gave us such a VIP experience! They were so easy to work with and more than accommodating. I couldn't have asked for a more perfect turnout. From the planning and logistics of the party, to the execution the day of. Even my guests spoke to me after about how much they appreciated the staff! Now as far as the food options for brunch.... It was a freaking 10-course buffet! What more can you ask for? All the food was fresh and delicious. Whenever food items ran low, the kitchen and staff were on top of it and kept all food replenished and fresh. My personal favorites were the Huevos Rancheros and the warm beignets for dessert! Soooooo good! We also appreciated the bottomless mimosas, bloody Mary's, and Irish coffees! We came to get drinks here while we looked for a dinner spot and boy the vibes are so off. Maybe during the day it's a little less spooky but I felt uncomfortable just being there. They keep it extremely dark and the furniture looked really outdated. The server was nice but seemed personally offended when someone in the group sent back a drink. Nestled within the Belamar Hotel, this place is a little hidden gem. Parking is valet only, but free if you tell the valet that you're going to the restaurant. It's a quaint spot that takes up the second floor of the hotel, hence the name. The staff is friendly, and attentive. Our waitress overheard that we were grabbing a bday before heading out, so she brought a slice of cake for the bday girl, how thoughtful! The cleanliness could be up a notch. It wasn't bad, but it could use a deep cleaning, where the nooks and crannies can be cleaned out. I had an ant crawling on my lap napkin, and noticed the walls should be wiped down and floors vancummed a little better. My grass-fed burger with fries was such a steal because it was happy hour. Only $9 and it was a ton of food! It was basic, but very flavorful. My friends all got the skirt steak and said it was good. My friends and I agreed we'd come back here, again. Cozy restaurant in the second story of the Belmar hotel. This establishment does offer a happy hour where you can save some $$. I had the FIRE GRILLED ORGANIC CHICKEN | Sautéed Shrimp, Artichoke Hearts and Garlic Cream Sauce, Potatoes, Asparagus 24 I pretty much love anything with garlic and this was a good tasting dish. Unfortunately, like 20-30 minutes after eating it and waiting for dessert my guts were being torn up from the inside. I ran to the bathroom. The first two times were false alarms, then the third time I was forced to liquidate my assets. It was pouring chocolate rain in that mofo, my butt became a lava faucet. If this was an Indian restaurant, I had what you would have called the Delhi Belly or the Punjab Poopjob. It was rough. While service was good, it was a tad slow, and while it was noticeable during our dinner, it was more evident to myself while trying to contain the stream of chocolate cream that was on the verge of being discharged. Well, Wed night 5-5:30 pm is the best time to hit this spot! We had the whole place to ourselves. My mom and dad were in town visiting and decided to suggest they stayed at the Bellamar. We had reservations for the strand but because they retire decided to stay at the hotel and eat at Second Story at the hotel. Now, I have eaten Hotel dining (not room service) all over the world. This was unlike any in hotel restaurant establishment I have experienced for a small boutique hotel. Walking in, we had our pick of where to sit. The comfy seating and atmosphere was super welcoming. Our host/server (remember it's early on a Wed), was a pure joy! Witty, funny, informative and bold about her choices when it cam to the menu. Each dish, Philly Cheese Steak was ridiculously off the charts yummy (best I have ever had), Turkey Mushroom to die for, my mom and my wife had crisp bomb dressing Caesar Salads and my wife also had the Fish Taco. All items from their 4-6pm Happy Hour menu. We all felt the chef made it his goal to individually make each dish absolutely perfect! Service has always been on point. We came this time for an early breakfast prior to starting our Saturday. Parking is always a breeze at the hotel. Our server, Jose, has taken care of us each of our three visits and he is friendly and always smiling as he takes our order and serving our drinks and checking up on us throughout our meal. My wife ordered huevos rancheros and a mimosa. I ordered the Belmar breakfast which was two eggs over medium, pork sausage, potatoes and pancakes. The food was delicious and we even took a bite out of he pancakes which was very good despite us being on low carbohydrate diet. I had my tab opened and I ordered the following to share with my friends: -glass of Riesling (not part of HH) -glass of house "white" -Fish and Chips -Cesar Salad My bill was $26. I LOVED the Riesling. The fish was a little greasy but light in texture but I LOVED the matchstick fries (my nemesis). I thought the Cesar Salad lacked some serious garlic and anchovies but hey.....that's just my preferred taste. I had a bite of my friend's fondue which I thought was amazing! The idea of boneless chicken wings is so strange but I really enjoyed them and it was spicy good. Overall I really enjoyed myself here. The Second Story Restaurant is located between the first and second floors of the Belamar Restaurant. The restaurant wasn't that busy, but there were about 1-2 waiters when we went there on Saturday night. The view wasn't great. I mean, we sat next to a window, which was right next to the emergency exit. We ordered the crab cakes ($13) and the seafood bouillabaise ($29). It took a while for the food to appear, since there was a large party, but our waiter took really good care of us. We started with some slices of bread with two dipping sauces, one was olive oil with herbs and the second was olive tahini. We were also given a dish of freshly-made potato chips. The crab cakes were good, nothing to call home about. The seafood bouillabaise comes in a heavy cast-iron dish, and comes with a side of garlic bread with lots of garlic. The seafood bouillabaise was definitely very tasty. The sauce that comes with is a good dipping sauce for the garlic bread. The lobster, fish, shrimp, squid, and mussels were all prepared well. The parking is on the backside of the building, and take take advantage of the free parking becaue they do not permit hotel parking on the street. I went for happy hour and I think due to low visibility, there weren't a lot of people. Service was awesome, the bartender took care of us at the tall bar tables and the food was fabulous. The hummus was tasty and served with fresh veggies, juicy burger with crispy fries-big enough to share, and the warm bread pudding with bourbon sauce was a great way to end the meal. Nice older restaurant on (you guessed it) the second story of the Hotel Belmont, a boutique hotel in the "tree" section of Manhattan Beach. Great spot for an early morning business meeting. Quiet (no tourists or local breakfast traffic when I was there), good coffee, decent and simple food, and service was attentive but didn't hover or impede privacy. Our first stop for Summer DineLA. we've always wanted to stop by here everytime we drive by on Sepulveda. they supposedly have a pretty good HH, but, we missed it this time around. parking is around the back and valet parking is complimentary. the Belamar hotel, where Second Story is located, is a boutique type hotel. very art deco like. let me just start off by saying the service at Second Story was great. granted it was monday night and not too busy in there, the busboy was right on top of getting us some water and the server shortly thereafter, on point with all the attention we needed. i just wished they paid more attention to the food. mama got the heirloom tomato salad and i got the crab papaya salad. the tomato was good, sweet and tangy. the crab seemed to have come out of a can and didn't seem to have been rinsed through. there appeared to be shells still in it and it was salty. mama got the seabass and i got the chicken. mama wasn't a fan of the seabass. it was moist but bland. the potato mash was the saving grace. my chicken started out ok. mama like the couple bites i gave her. that's until we realized they served us chicken sashimi. PINK in the meaty part of the breast! OUCH! sent it back and had them bring out the shrimp with gnocci, which was by far the BEST part of meal. very good cream sauce and gnocci was cooked well. dessert was uneventful. not very imaginative with this being DineLA and all. the flourless cake was ok and the berry crumble was good. overall, it was an OK experience. but, with being served undercooked chicken and bland fish, we were not very impressed. even the exceptional service (the only reason for 2 stars) couldn't make up for it. read more

The Second Story restaurant in the Belamar hotel was on my list of "must try" places, but I always seemed to forget about it....wow am I glad I didn't forget this time! We had the fondue, it's served with apples, strawberries and bread, very tasty. He had the spicy boneless chicken wings, served with homemade blue cheese dressing...he said they weren't spicy, but we thought they were quite spicy and delicious...any more spice would frankly push these into the not fantastic category, but these were terrific. Cocktails were delist, upon yelp check in you can take advantage of a free glass of wine, I opted to save it for another time. Genka, our server was attentive and helpful and knows every detail of the menu. He opted for the wedge salad and the cold spring rolls...he enjoyed every bite. She had the fish tacos....and gobbled them up. I had the roasted salmon over grilled asparagus and Humboldt Fog, which anyone who knows me knows I would never pass on a dish that contains the Fog, it's my favorite! And the dish by the way was absolutely perfect. We finished the meal by sharing a freshly made banana stuffed crepe with Nutella and berries and a fantastic glass of Tawney Port....both were tasty almost to the point of ordering another, but we were just too darn full. Complimentary valet parking. No crowds. Wonderful service and absolutely fantastic food. For sure we're keeping this spot on or "regular" list of restaurants. Can't wait for next time! read more

This Valentine's Day my husband & I looked for a restaurant last minute! We didn't find anything, so we almost stayed home & made dinner. Luckily, I found this spot on Yelp! With the reviews, we got the impression that it would be quiet & secluded location. Let me tell you! there were only a few people & most left right after. So it felt like we had the place to ourselves! We got greeted right away and you choose were you want to sit. It was very welcoming! The waitress/bartender, Andrea, came over right away & took our drinks order. She was very friendly & knowledgeable on all sorts of mixed drinks/beers. We shared a south of the border Caesar salad before our main entrees (ask for extra dressing). For main meals, we ordered the New York Steak & the Grilled Salmon. Both had mashed potatoes, asparagus & Carrots for sides. We usually prefer rib eye or filet mignon so this cut wasn't amazing & it was a tad over cooked- medium (we ordered medium rare) but the flavor was still really good! The salmon was lightly seasoned & was cooked just right! Wish it was a little bit bigger though! MO. Mashed potatoes were delicious!! The veggies were perfection, not too over cooked nor too bland. After we ate, I still had room for dessert. Since it was closing time, there wasn't much more than cake slices which Andrea offered. I was really craving ice cream, so I asked her & took my order! She brought over vanilla iced cream with chocolate syrup, whipped cream & she even added strawberries on the side! We had a great time together there for Valentine's Day & I'm truly in love with this little secluded spot on the second floor! Can't wait to return & try other items!! We were looking for a new happy hour place to hang out, with good food & drinks, and came across this place on Yelp. The reviews looked decent, so we gave it a try! The restaurant is located on the second story of the hotel... thus the name, Second Story Restaurant! My first impression when walking in is that it's very comfy and cozy. It seemed like a classy place with style. The customers also seemed as such. The restaurant is pretty spacious and it never got completely crowded. They have a good happy hour from 4-7pm. The food was great! I got the picanha with fries and the cheese fondue. I also got a glass of wine (or two :) and that was also very reasonable during happy hour. The overall service was friendly and attentive. The only drawback to this place is the lack of parking. I believe you can valet your car, however I parked on the street near the residential area and walked to the restaurant, which wasn't too far.
