Have been wanting to try this place forever and finally had the chance to. Went with a group and we got a good assortment. Had to get the hand of Fatima which were heavily reviewed but was a little disappointed in this dish. The servings of dips were scarce but the bread was very good, we ordered more bread just to eat with the other dishes. I would recommend just order bread to go with some of their other mains which are more sauce heavy. My favorite dishes were the lamb meatballs and beef cheek cous cous. The lamb was incredibly tasty and the beef cheek was tender. They have an extensive wine menu and many you can purchase by glass which is great. This place is so special! The ambiance is lovely, the staff are attentive, and the food and wine were very high quality. I ordered the Terramagna Sillares Syrah blend and my sister got the Xarmant Txakolina. Both were delicious! The Syrah blend was very rich and intense, and the txakolina was crisp and smooth. We ordered the moussaka, roasted cauliflower, and pappardelle. Each one was full of unique flavor and texture. The pappardelle noodles are made in house! Everything tasted very flavorful and fresh. We went here for my wife's birthday dinner and really only liked the falafel sliders. The lamb meatballs were underwhelming and a bit too salty. The branzino was just okay, and both were served over a bed of couscous. The fries were delicious and crispy, but overly salted as well. On top of that, the menu of drinks written in chalk on their wall is just for show. Their actual drink menu is so much smaller and they have $11 beers on draft. I got a Pilsner, which was great, but $11 for a beer is pretty hefty. I'm used to paying $8 or $9, but $11 for a pint is steep. They played pitchy, piercing, high treble music which fit the theme of the restaurant, but we asked them to turn it down because it was giving us headaches. The owner knows how to take care of his guests. Lamb Meatballs: The meatballs are big and plump. They are nice and chewy on the inside with a bit of a sticky and crisp exterior. The m'hamsa stew contains hand rolled couscous with an optimal size. The tiny pearls are large enough so they're not gritty and small enough that they're not doughy. Our first time here with friends for my birthday. We heard lots of great things about this restaurant. This is a very authentic Mediterranean *Tunisian flavored and inspired menu. I don't normally like tapas or small-plates places, but while Barsha most definitely can be a small-plates place, it doesn't have to be, as in they have full-size, difficult-to-share entrees. In addition to an entrees section, their menu strangely has both appetizers and small-bites sections. As appetizers, we ordered both appetizers and small bites, and I have no idea what the difference is. It looks very dark and romantic inside, but I didn't actually go inside, because we ate in the little patio. Even though it fronts the parking lot and people's headlights were sometimes shining in our faces, it's quite lovely to eat outside. There are two large round tables next to each other and another two-top on the other side of the main entrance. Although another party sat next to ours, it's not too crowded. It's also neat how the server takes your orders and communicates with you while he's standing on the sidewalk outside the patio, on the other side of the small wooden fence. The prices are what you would expect from a date-night place in the South Bay. They're not absurd, but you're definitely paying dearly for service and ambiance, because the portion sizes of the entrees are not large. I think I was planning to get my sister and brother-in-law a gift certificate from Barsha for a future Christmas gift, but they beat me to it by introducing first my parents and then me to it. We also enjoyed the hand of fatima with the crusty bread - the bread was really warm and fresh, loved the hummus and pesto dips especially. The lamb meatballs were juicy but the couscous on the bottom wasn't my favorite. The spritz and golden hour drinks were good but i think we could've skipped the bread pudding. If you're looking for something different in the South Bay, I'd recommend trying Barsha! They serve Tunisian food, which was my first time having. We started off with some non-alcoholic apertifs that sounded really interesting! The De Soi Purple Lune has dark fruit, rose, Gentian root, Ashwagnda, green tea, and black pepper. The De Soi Golden Hour has pear, yuzu, earl grey tea, bergamot, lemongrass, maca, and elderflower. For appetizers, we got the Housemade Farmers Cheese, which was nice and creamy. It comes with roasted beets, charred tomato, balsamic grapes, pistachio, and a side of sliced bread. We also got the Chicken Liver Pate, served with pistachio and a seasonal compote, as well as bread. Would get this again! For small bites, we got the Roasted Eggplant. It's mixed with heirloom tomato, caramelized onion, balsamic, and almond with a side of bread. This was quite tasty! I definitely recommend their Falafel Sliders! These come with caramelized and pickled onion, tabil aioli, cucumber, feta, and labheh on a toasted slider bun. For items from the "Bigger Bites" section of the menu, we go the Lamb Meatballs that come in a M'hamsa stew with cous cous and labneh. We also got the Moussaka, an eggplant stew with tabil bechamel, parmesan, and croutons on top. I enjoyed this dish! This was a good amount of food for a group of four people! Everything is set up to be shared with the exception of the sliders. They also have live music that happens on select Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. The coolest restaurant in the South Bay, the best in the Beach Cities. Friendly, attentive service that is genuine and not too fussy creates a casual and welcoming ambiance. Starters are strong, as the Hand of Fatima kicks off our meal with five fingers of fabulous, my faves being the pesto and the rich and salty tapenade. The sides are as strong as standalone dishes, approachable items like Sumac Shishitos, which have these amazing wedges of preserved lemon and Zaatar Fries which have a seasoning that is to die for. All of our entrees are hot plates of hearty comfort. Beef Cheek Cous Cous has chunks of melt-in-your-mouth meat, Lamb Meatballs are flavor-bombs, and that night's Gumbo special has succulent shrimp with a beautiful backdrop of crab notes. Dessert is another special, my personal favorite of all desserts; the Bread Pudding. It's well-balanced, not too gooey and not too sweet. A new favorite in Southbay. Discovered this month, and went there twice. Obviously on the pricier side, but the ambiance, the live band, and the high-quality food are worth it. The Tunisian-American cuisine is flavorful and unique ( and reminds me of similar food that I had when I was in Morocco, as well as the tajins spotted in the decor). You cannot go wrong with the Hand of Fatima, each spread(chutney?) is perfection. The crusty bread is something else. I can just eat trays of that as a meal. Great balls of falafel- Wow wow wow!!! We had an amazing dinner and experience here in this superbly cute and well done restaurant owned by a lovely couple! The theme is Tunisian mixed with some familiar middle eastern/Mediterranean fare, in formats of small and large plates. Even before I get to the food, I have to say service from Julian and his colleagues was truly impeccable- not once did we have to ask for a water refill, and EVERY single staff member wished my friend a happy birthday!!! Like Disney but with far more interesting food!! We had the zaatar fries, which were my favorite with a perfect dusting of the herb on the nicely crisped fries. We really liked the falafel sliders with very fresh ingredients, but I wish there had just been a little less labneh and aioli dressing. The eggplant was also quite nice. But the best was the bread pudding- honestly the best I've ever tried!!! Whatever middle eastern magic was infused into that bread pudding had me flying on a carpet right into planning my next visit here. Everything about our experience at Barsha was amazing! Ollie came to the table with a smile and tons of information about the restaurant, chef, and menu. You can tell there is a great deal of care in how things were put together and the staff that were hired. We came hungry and started with the Hand of Fatima and Roasted Eggplant. I loved the presentation of the hand plate and five different dips/spreads for their crusty bread. We tried each individually, but also enjoyed creating our own combos of hummus, olive tapenade, harissa, pesto, and olives. Also, that crusty bread is perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Don't sleep on the eggplant! My husband does not like eggplant AT all, but I love it, and pushed for us to order the dish. To get that depth of balsamic flavor without making the eggplant mushy, is definitely a talent. Such a nice balance of spices--we inhaled both dishes. Next up were the Local Kale (Caesar) and the Tounsi Brik. Ollie sold us on the kale, and it did not disappoint! The dressing is light, but still creamy and is massaged into the kale so the leaves soak all that goodness up. The little bits of crunchy chickpeas added a nice texture to the salad. The Tounsi Brik was like a savory puff pastry with mashed potatoes and salty capers inside. This was light and tasty, even with potatoes as the main ingredient. The Tabil Branzino was the final dish of the night, and it was simple, yet flavorful. I enjoyed the crispy skin that was lightly salted, mixed together with the cous cous and sauce all in one delicious bite. Althought we ate so many dishes, we didn't leave feeling like we'd immediately fall into a deep food coma. The people in the table next to us said that their meal was one of the best they've ever had, and I couldn't agree more. Eating here truly brought me warmth and joy unlike any restaurant I've eaten at in the entire state of California. I moved from Egypt in 2020 and sadly have not been back since. The atmosphere here, the lighting, the background television shows, the music, the spices - everything brought me back. This was like a mini trip put of California to Northern Africa and my heart couldn't be happier. We ate the falafel sliders, the lamb meatballs, the moussaka and the crusty bread - every single dish taste traditional to the region and Tunisia.
