I have neen a loyal Eat at Joe's customer for 50 years. Today I could not believe the changes in the food. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak, eggs, toast Potatoes. WOW! Nothing like 6 months ago. The Chicken Fried Steak was not beef. Tasted like Ground turkey with a marinade. Tasted sharp almost like it was old and fermented. Had a Vinegar flavor. Spit it out. The gravey looked like it was out of a can. Not the famous white creamy sausage gravey we remembered. The potatoes were sliced and raw but very greasy. Not the chunks of home fries with onions and peppers. No half and half for coffee. Sourdough toast was not toast. Tasted like stale bread with not butter spread. Hope they read this. One would think if something has changed drastically, switching from real turkey to lunch meat, it would be mentioned when ordering. I've been hoping they might return to their former glory. I couldn't tell you the amount of times I've driven past this place since I was a kid and I finally got to try them! I enjoyed their veggie omelette with home style potatoes and rye bread. I like how the potatoes were closer to hash brown style than just cubes. It was seasoned well and hit the spot. I also ordered a short stack of buttermilk pancakes which were also solid! Their house salsa complimented the omelette and was so tasty. Service was attentive and friendly from the hosts to the wait staff. I got lucky a found parking right up front but they do have a parking lot. The place is clean and they play good music. I loved the new outside patio (new to us) I didn't realize there was new ownership, but that would explain why the food didn't taste the same as it did in the past. Took the pup for some fun time at the dog park about a mile away when hunger pangs came through, and since he was with me, dog-friendly eatery was the only way to go. And that's how we ended up here. Lucky enough to find street parking right up front. Checked in up front and immediately asked the host for patio seating since I came through with my fur baby. "Sure!" A blink and a half later, we were seated at a corner. I liked how all the tables and chairs were spaced out well. I got the chance to look at the menu so I knew exactly what I wanted: 2 eggs and chicken fried steak (with sunny side up eggs and sourdough toast.) Informed Chelsea, my server that I wasn't interested in the home fries and since I didn't want to waste it, they didn't need to add it on. She asked if I wanted a sub for it, "... cottage cheese? Fruit, maybe?" (Didn't know that was an option!) I went for the cottage cheese, why not. And an Arnold Palmer to wash it all down. I was a bit surprised my food came through a little fast, but I didn't mind: I was hungry! I liked that the gravy wasn't poured on top of the steak (I forgot to ask for it on the side) so yay! I started off with the cottage cheese, then moved on to the toast. Eggs were cooked to a perfect sunny side up. The steak, however, I felt was rushed. The batter was under seasoned as with the gravy. I thought maybe to have water to cleanse the palate, but nope. The flavor stayed the same. Dashed both thoroughly with salt and pepper and made a difference. But then, the steak was a bit tough, too... so, not great, overall. FOOD: 2.5. SERVICE: 5. Chelsea is fantastic at her job. She checked on me, gave napkins without asking, etc. There was service with a beautiful smile. But the cherry on top: I needed to use the bathroom but couldn't leave the pup and she volunteered to keep an eye on him while I go. I ended up not needing it, but the fact she volunteered?! Awesome. I had been wanting to try this place for a very long time now. We had orientation at the high school next door so we decided to finally stop by. Service was a 10/10 !! Greeted as soon as we were seen coming in. It was very packed, it was a Thursday 10am. There seemed to be a lot of regulars, they were on a first name basis with the waitresses. Felt very much like home. My avocado toast and pancakes were great. Their hot salsa was a 10/10, it tasted very homemade!! My daughter got a cheeseburger, she's a very picky eater and she loved it! However, the waitress explained that on holidays or the day after, hash browns may not be available. So, home fries by default. The country fried steak was...different from what I am used to. I found it barely battered and on the tough side. It was closer to a thin, lightly battered pork chop. Even though EAJ has been a long time establishment in the So Bay it was our first time trying here. Parking for a weekday morning was a bit troubling since the neighborhood did not have any available street parking so we needed to park on the street across PCH. We enjoyed the diner "vibe" and we ordered the avocado toast that came with two eggs and potatoes and we enjoyed it very much. They were not "stingy" with the avocado mash on top of the sourdough toast nor the bacon pieces and tomato. It was enough that I took home half of the meal and had it again for lunch. The potatoes were thinly sliced potatoes which was a nice change from the usual hash browns or homestyle potatoes. Service and staff were nice and attentive and you can tell many customers are regulars. Was a nice neighborhood type of atmosphere. We will return again to try something else on the menu. read more

I noticed that every time I have a different server for some odd reason I have a different price on my receipt so I innocently asked today why is my bill up to five dollars different up or down for the same meal every time I come? the server Griselda that goes by Gris G on the receipt flamed up on me. Keep in mind this was just an innocent question and in today's economy with inflation, gas prices, high interest rates, every cent counts. instead of nicely explaining the bill she gave me an attitude that I did not expect coming from a server, which caught me completely off guard. extremely disappointed in her actions being that she's in the customer service industry, especially when a customer just has a innocent question. This diner looks like it has been around forever...because it has. We came just past noon on a Saturday and put our name on the waitlist. It took about 20 minutes to be seated. There is patio seating and indoor seating, the latter in two separate rooms. One room has long tables and padded bench seats with a clear plastic divider separating the table into two sides for different parties. We sat at one of those tables; the plastic barrier was like a nostalgic reminder of covid days. Service was slow at first but once our order was finally taken it was attentive though all-business and charmless. I ordered two McJoe breakfast sandwiches which are scrambled eggs, cheese, and sausage between two English muffins. You can also opt for bacon or ham as the protein. The plate came with potatoes too. I sipped on some darn good diner coffee while waiting for my meal. The little sandwiches were much better than a McMuffin but still not astounding. To be clear, I liked them and the potatoes were just fine too, I just wasn't blown away. My wife got a dish with Polish sausage and scrambled eggs and it was too much food for her so I ate some of the sausage which I thought was outstanding. This is obviously a favorite spot for locals and a great place to enjoy a diner breakfast. As other reviewers note, parking around here is impossible so I did what others suggest and parked across the street in the plaza. read more

A local diner down in Redondo Beach. I am giving it a 4/5 because of the limited menu options and ambience especially in comparison to other famous diners in LA. We had to wait about 20 minutes to be seated for a Saturday brunch, but the wait was worth it. They have seating indoor and out, but we sat indoor for our meal. The service was actually really great and our server was extremely friendly and very quick with the refills. They don't have a parking lot but street parking is fairly easy to find in this part of town. As mentioned the menu is fairly small and does not have a lot of of the classic dishes on it. I decided to go with the most popular dish, which is the John Wayne special and thought overall it was really good although the flavors kind of blend together with the sauce poured all over top. Overall we had a nice meal, but due to limited options I would categorize this as a spot for locals versus going out of your way for it. read more

Wow so disappointed in how this place has gone downhill! Today we went and there was nobody there and now we know why. I asked our server about the chicken enchiladas and she said they were really good. I should've taken a photo but what I got was a plate of pulled up dry corn tortillas with chicken inside and shredded cheese on top and an overly sickly sweet enchilada sauce. The tortillas were not cooked baked fried anything dipped in oil for flavor they were just dry tortillas you take out of the bag and maybe put in the microwave. Beans were watery and rice was overcooked. The new patio is very nice looking however they have no more condiments out you have to ask for everything. My husband got his Acapulco omelette but the hashbrowns were about half the size. I would've sent the enchiladas back for something else but our server never came back to check on us until my husband was almost through . She was nice and took it off the bill though. The perfect local diner that's been around for decades. I've driven past this joint for years and have never been but my boyfriend suggested we come for breakfast as it's delicious and affordable. We were lucky to get a parking spot as the lot is tiny and only fits a few cars. We brought our dog with us as they said they're pet friendly in the outside patio. Once we arrived we were asked to put our name on the list. We waited about 10 minutes to be seated just us two. They quickly brought us water and menus and asked if we wanted to order, but gave us more time when needed. I got the breakfast burrito with sausage and my boyfriend got the John Wayne special, his favorite that he said is great everytime. The breakfast burrito was huge and came with potatoes on the side. For only a little over $11, the deal was insane. It had great flavor and I loved that the sausage was chopped up so you got some in every bite. There was a generous portion of potatoes and the eggs were great. I loved using the self serve salsa and hot sauce on the table. My boyfriend's John Wayne special was incredible. It had so much flavor and a kick. They waiters were attentive and nice and the service was remarkably fast. I really enjoyed my experience and was impressed with the food.
