RICE is healthy, fresh, accommodating and has great fish and drink options. If you were to consult a gluten free friend, they'd likely give RICE 5 STARS. What an amazing way to give GF peeps access to some of everyone's favorite sushi "go tos". I've been here twice for my GF bestie because she loves it SO much. While I personally like the yellowtail jalapeño sashimi & the cucumber salad the most, I also was unable to try some of the menu due to my soy & shellfish allergies. My friend Steph LOVED the access to GF tempura but opted into some fried lobster cut roll she was literally salivating over. The saki cucumber drink was a little sweet for me but also great as we went on a super hot day. We sat outside on the street and enjoyed the sunshine. Service was great and they're super helpful and on it when it comes to any special requests.

I'm a big ramen fan. I love everything about it, the process, the broth, the delicious flavorful meat. That's why I picked this lace to try, and I truly wish I could give this place 5 stars, but the ramen was missing that umami you look for in deep flavorful broths. I didn't have enough stomach space for sushi, but I'm hoping that when I come back to try that part of the menu, I'm blown away. As for service, it was very good and prompt. The food order was taken quickly and the food was served just as fast. Definately earned 4 stars for the service and ambiance. The ambiance was nice, with several indoor tables and some seating outside.

My favorite place to go for sushi. They have regular and vegan sushi and a delicious kabocha pumpkin dish you cannot find anywhere else. My teenage daughter loves their ramen. The staff are always very attentive and friendly. Both locations are equally fantastic.

We decided to try the sample prix fixe course for $35 in celebration for a friend's bday lunch. Chose the corn soup (brought back memories in Japan), really delicious, fresh garlic albacore and you could choose a roll. I had the lobster roll which was delicious, cooked just right without it being dry or overcooked. The passion fruit mochi had good flavor. I'd like to go again and try the other goodies! Service was great, attentive and kind. You could choose to sit inside or out. また来ます。

Food - The food was amazing the cucumber salad was everything. Service - We did not have a reservation but when we walked up we were seated quickly. We sat outside since it was a nice day. Overall this place and a hidden gem and I would recommend people to try it out.

We've been here twice in two weeks! The service is consistently great. The ambience reminds me of restaurants in Tokyo- a small space used well. It's lively and welcoming. The food is amazing! It's so hard to find good gluten free Asian food so this place is a gem! Over the years, we have been here a several times and everything is good. We recommend trying: tempura (bc you can't get gluten free tempura in many places) shishito peppers, Brussel sprouts, anything with crispy kale, garlic edamame, garlic toro kale (something like that), any of the sushi items, and the crispy sushi, too. My husband also likes their yellowtail collar. To drink, I like the sake cocktails, but I actually love their yuzu maple hot ginger non alcoholic beverage! I'm usually so stuffed that I don't have room for dessert but their coconut and mango mochi ice cream is nice if you want a taste of sweetness. We also came for an early birthday celebration for me and they made it so special. We will definitely be back soon!

My husband loved the saki. He mentioned it's one of the best he's tried. In terms of food the vegan sushi roll was great & the spicy ramen. My friends who do eat meat mentioned their fish dishes being delicious as well.

Really loved our experience here. What a sweet little sushi restaurant. Such high quality food - and the fact that EVERYTHING is gluten free? Made my heart soar. It has been actual ages since I had vegetable tempura. I was so thoroughly happy. The service was delightful and helpful for our first time. They had great recommendations. And this place is so nice and quaint - feels like a perfect seaside dinner. I highly recommend for your next date night.

I do not recommend this place at all. The only thing I can appreciate is that they are a gluten free restaurant and ever have gluten free beer on the menu that was cool. I was not happy with any of the sushi the taste was honestly terrible. I keep getting a bad taste in my mouth...something tells me it's all the deep frying they do to their rolls. The fish didn't taste fresh. I wanted to love this place so much and drove 45 min to get to it but was not happy at all. I wouldn't think you'd need gluten to make sushi taste good. I even asked the chef what he recommends and got one of the rolls that he did recommend and wasn't happy with the taste of that one either. The taste was one thing the second thing is the price the picture of the sushi sampler (8 pieces) costed $59 and was under "today's special" how is that a special ? I expected way more sushi for that price I feel that I have been robbed since the menus doesn't specify that it is only 8 pieces. I sat outside and seating was nice and peaceful outside but waitress seemed upset that I wanted to sit outside she brought up the fact that we wanted to sit outside three times. I don't know why it was such a big deal for her but she was cold and didn't want to come outside to us I guess . I will not be going back or recommending this place to anyone.

Be my Valentine Vegan :) I've always been curious to try out Rice Manhattan Beach which is a restaurant that specializes in gluten free, vegan and vegetarian dishes. This year Valentine's Day happened to coincide with Ash Wednesday which meant I wasn't eating any meat. Rice Manhattan Beach made for the perfect Valentine's Day dinner/Ash Wednesday non-meat eating day with it's vegan offerings. For Valentine's Day; the restaurant wasn't offering their regular menu but instead was offering a Valentine's Day special. For that evening, Rice had two six course offerings; a Ocean offering ($88) and a Garden offering ($78). Both offerings were very similar. The Ocean highlighted seafood dishes while The Garden featured vegan dishes. I chose to get the Garden which started off with an Amuse of Fresh Vegetables with Tomato Miso. It was beautifully plated with cute heart shaped radishes. It was nice, light starter. After the Amuse; the first dish consisted of Rice's Eight Diamonds. The Eight Diamonds were Sesame Tofu, Soy Butter Corn, Grape Tofu, Edamame, Garlic Cucumber, Lotus Root, Sesame Kale and Kimuch Tomato. I really liked the Eight Diamonds. Each of the eight offerings had a different flavor profile and texture. My favorites were the Soy Butter Corn and the Garlic Cucumber. The Soy Butter Corn had a nice crunchy texture and wonderful buttery taste. The Garlic Cucumber was perfectly savory, tangy, and garlicky. Second dish of the night consisted of Crispy Rice and Kaboucha Croquette. This second dish was definitely one of my favorites of the night. This dish had a trio of melt in your mouth items; a Crispy Rice Spicy Tofu, a Crispy Rice Garlic Sweet Potato and a Kaboucha Croquette. All three were wonderfully crisp and each one was golden deep-fried, savory delight. Third dish was a Vegan Miso Cod. The Vegan cod was placed on top of a grilled layer potato with yuzu miso. Rice's yuzu miso definitely hit at the right salty umami flavor that paired well with the vegan cod. Fourth dish was their Truffle Miso Soup. Simple yet quite savory; it made for a good dish right after the Vegan Miso Cod. The Truffle Miso Soup also had heart shaped carrots! It was such a cute touch. The main and last dish of the night consisted of their Sushi Roll Sampler. The Sushi Roll Sampler consisted of four sushi items; Sweet Dynamite, Green Garden, Dynamite and Buffalo Cauliflower. It's hard for me to choose which of the four was my favorite because they all were quite enjoyable. The Buffalo Cauliflower was a surprise as I'm not a big fan of Buffalo flavors but I ended up really liking this. The buffalo flavoring had just the right spice that perfectly matched the cauliflower sushi. The Green Garden had an amazing truffle flavor. I also really liked both the Dynamite and Sweet Dynamite. It was great take on a savory and sweet mix of sushi. Last not least for dessert; we got the Green Tea Cake. I really enjoyed the flavor profiles of this cake. It had vibrant grassy notes along with a sweet nuttiness. Aside from the amazing food; I was also impressed with the effort that Rice Manhattan Beach put in for Valentine's night. There were pretty red napkins table along with cute lighting for each table. It was a lovely setting. I really enjoyed Valentine's Day dinner at Rice Manhattan Beach. Healthy, delicious meals + happy hearts!

Poorly run place. We had reservations at 6:30 and didn't get service to order food until 7pm despite trying to flag the waitress down twice. The table behind us who sat after us left (after getting their order and finishing their food) before my food arrived, and when my food finally came out, it was poorly assembled in this picture. What is up with that sad avocado? With 3 wait staff, 9 indoor tables (2 empty) and 3 outdoor tables, there should be more efficiency and attention paid to the patrons. Instead, we had delayed service, with more attention being paid to the tables in front and behind us. There's clearly two women who are waiting tables with one guy who does the greeting and then disappears. There clearly needs to be a floater during busy times to ensure adequate service where customers are not wasting their time trying to flag someone down to order. They also gave us the check without giving us a dessert menu (probably because my patience was wearing thin at this point and it was clear through my lack of enthusiasm), but there should still be a standard operating process that is followed no matter the circumstance.

the prices make this more of a special occasion kind of place, especially when rolls aren't super filling, but the quality of the food and kindness of the servers make the trip worth it! as a vegetarian, sushi is usually never very exciting for me. as someone with celiac, i often can't eat any of these foods when out at restaurants. here, everything is gf and there are some really interesting, yummy vegetarian options. been here maybe ten times already? i particularly love the chili cucumber appetizer, brussel sprouts appetizer, green garden roll, buffalo cauliflower roll, and the mochi. the cocktails are always so yummy too parking is often a pain, but that's just a manhattan beach problem ‍ wish the city would invest in a shuttle or something...

    What is your corkage fee?

    $20.

Do they offer gluten free beer?

yes, we have "ground breaker" gluten free beer.

Do you offer gluten free options for people with celiac?

Their food is all gluten free.

    Parking is available?

No lot, just street parking. Usually not too hard to find, although you may need to circle a few times.

Do you still offer lunch specials?

    Yes

    Do they allow dogs?

Rice is a small restaurant and does not have an outdoor dining area. I believe that the state law allows dogs in a restaurant's outdoor seating area only.
