This cute little restaurant is located in a small shopping center in El Segundo. They have a complimentary small parking lot out front along with spots in an underground garage - we were lucky to find a spot just as someone was leaving because both parking areas were full around brunchtime on a Friday. There is also street parking, if needed. This place was clean, modern, and bright and the service was friendly and prompt. They filled up our water pitcher when we finished our water without us asking, and staff checked on us periodically. The menu was extensive with fun breakfast stuff not typical of other Thai or breakfast restaurants I've visited. A lot of rice porridges in their Thai breakfast section. I tried some of my husband's and it was nice and comforting...I'm Filipino American, not Thai, but I thought the flavor reminded me of Tinola (or a papaya ginger soup/stew). I can see how it's regarded as traditional comfort food. They also offered the usual pad thai, etc. but we didn't order that...I tried the Thai Omelette over rice, my daughter had a peanut butter/coconut/banana/honey toast, and my husband had one of the rice porridges (pork/mushroom). All of the food was tasty and flavorful. To finish off our meal, we had the matcha bingsu (shaved ice) topped with sweet red beans. (I have friends in Hawthorne who travel all the way to Hollywood for their favorite shaved ice...they will no longer need to travel far for some really good shaved ice dessert! I plan to introduce them to Toast & Thai!) For drinks, I ordered the Thai Black coffee and my husband had an Americano. I didn't realizethe Thai "black" coffee was sweetened. Usually, when I order coffee "black", it means no sugar, no cream. Thai black coffee is sweetened with sugar (not condensed milk as in Thai tea) but they don't add cream. There was no description of the Thai Black coffee on the online or in-person menu so I didn't realize it was sweetened. The coffee was flavorful, but too sweet for me to finish. I saved some to take home to add more coffee and dilute the sugar. It was tasty, just too sweet for my liking. Overall, my family enjoyed our meal and experience and will definitely return with friends! There are so many other items on their menu I'd love to try next time - Hainan Chicken Rice, Croffles (Croissant / Waffles), Khao Soi, Panang Curry...We look forward to our next visit! read more

We had to ask for water refills, and our server actually brought us the check before we were even done ordering everything. We had to ask if we were being rushed to leave because it felt so inappropriate. When we ordered dessert, the dirty dishes were just left sitting on the table. To make matters worse, only one of our two appetizers arrived. When I asked about the second one, the server initially said it was on its way, but then admitted she forgot to put the order in, so I just canceled it. I also asked for no peppers and to substitute onions on my main dish, but that modification was completely ignored. I didn't even want to ask again when it was at the table. After seeing the great reviews, I decided to give Toast & Thai a try. Unfortunately, my experience was just okay. I didn't leave disappointed, but I also didn't leave feeling like I'd want to come back. The restaurant itself is clean, modern, and has a nice atmosphere. It feels like one of those places where you'd meet up with friends, relax, and chat for a while. Visually, it makes a great first impression. The food, however, was average. I ordered the Best Avocado Toast, and while it wasn't bad, it's hard to justify the price. At the end of the day, it's avocado on toast, and I've honestly had more flavorful versions elsewhere for less money. The smoked salmon toast was also underwhelming. The salmon surprisingly lacked much of that smoky flavor, and the bread felt thicker than the toppings themselves, making the balance a little off. The shrimp Tom Yum soup was probably my biggest disappointment. At $14, I expected something with bold, authentic flavors. Instead, it tasted fairly basic. It had the citrusy notes you'd expect, but it was sweeter than I prefer, likely because of the amount of cherry tomatoes used. The service is where things became frustrating. We waited around 20 minutes before our order was taken, then roughly another 30 minutes before food started coming out. What made it more frustrating was that everything arrived at completely different times. The matcha latte came first, then the Tom Yum soup, and it was another 20 minutes before the rest of the entrées arrived. We ended up waiting so everyone could eat together instead of one person eating while everyone else watched. Normally I don't mind waiting if a restaurant is busy, but based on many of the Yelp reviews, this doesn't seem like a one-time occurrence. A common theme is that there's only one server running the dining room. Our waitress was friendly and polite, but she was clearly overwhelmed, juggling six or more tables by herself. I don't blame her--I blame the staffing. At one point I even watched someone wait over 30 minutes for two specialty drinks because the server was busy with other tables. That really summed up the experience. If the food had completely blown me away, I could overlook the long wait. Unfortunately, the flavors were simply average, so the overall experience didn't justify the prices or the time spent waiting. Would I come back? Probably not. I'm glad I gave it a try because it's a nice-looking café, but with average food, premium prices, and consistently slow service, there just wasn't enough to make me want to return. read more

Was driving by and wifey was craving for matcha and thought she'd like this place as it's a cute Thai cafe. There's ample of parking outside and parking garage. We were here on a Sunday afternoon and was able to park outside (last spot). We ordered matcha latte, Thai ice coffee, 3 shots of this Thai egg thing and spicy Thai basil. My wife didn't see that matcha shaved ice and regretted ordering the drink and wished she order the shaved ice instead. The Thai ice coffee was pretty strong. The egg shots were interesting. I ordered two +$1 soy and 1 regular. Came here on Saturday with little more than a subtle craving for dessert after a hefty meal at the restaurant next door. I left shocked at how much I enjoyed my experience. This place has chill vibes, super friendly staff, and two of my favorite treats: mango sticky rice and bing su. The mango sticky rice and bing su (the one I had was called the Cookie Monster Shaved Ice) were fantastic. The bing su, in particular, was off the charts. It was incredibly creamy, fluffy, and loaded with cookie crunch. Judging by the photos left by other patrons, people don't even come here for the dessert. I was in the area for an afternoon coffee and found this spot. I got the Thai chicken salad, a honey butter croffle and a Thai iced coffee. Everything was very filling and delicious but not overwhelming. The service was welcoming and friendly. This place was DEAD when my friend and I went here at around 5PM on a Sunday. It wasn't a big place at all and it looked like you could order at a kiosk and have your food ready to-go, so maybe eating in isn't their specialty? I don't know, but this place had a big menu and decent reviews so we chose to hit up this spot. The vibes in here were super laid back. There was only one woman who we saw working which was also the hostess and everyone else's server, which was just us and another woman to tables away from us. We had a difficult time choosing something to order since the menu was so diverse. Everything from croffle ice cream, to clam chowder, to a full Thai menu. I saw banh mi on the menu and instantly knew I had to order it since I've never tried it before. So, I ordered the chicken meatball banh mi sandwich with a side salad (removing the jalapeño and spicy mayo). My friend ordered a Thai iced coffee and the pineapple curry. The food came out relatively quickly. My friend enjoyed her Thai iced coffee, but she said she wished she'd ordered the Thai tea instead. She also really liked her pineapple curry, and it came out piping hot. I tried it and it was super spicy, so not for me, but she really enjoyed it. My banh mi sandwich was interesting. Right off the bat, it was 75% bread. The bread wasn't bad. In fact, it was chewy and not tough to tear into, but the sandwich itself was mostly bread. There were only like three meatballs in the sandwich, which were cut in half, and I feel like there wasn't anything special about the meatballs. If I was blindfolded, I would think they were the Great Value frozen meatballs in a bag from Walmart. The pickled cabbage was nice though, even if the mixture made the entire bottom of the sandwich soggy af (but I like soggy bread so it was fine with me). I tore most of the bread off and left it on the plate. The side salad dressing also spilled onto the sandwich and contributed to the soggy bread. Delicious, clean non greasy Thai food in the heart of downtown el Segundo! We had the pad see ew, pad Thai (my fav) and the hainanese chicken. All dishes were 10/10 delicious and fresh tasting. The owners are a Thai couple; the wife was working when we went and she was so kind and attentive. Everything tastes homemade and the portions are more than generous. The name says it all. If you like toasted bread (really good bread), you'll like this place. They offer many different lunch/breakfast/dessert items, most of them with toast. I've enjoyed the salmon on toast and avocado with egg on toast. Okay, they have other bread items that are good too: burgers, croissants, banh mi, and sandwiches. A few non-bread items are on the menu, too: acai bowl, breakfast burrito, omelettes, salads. Plus unique desserts: bingsu (Korean shaved ice), honey toast, and croffles-- croissant/waffle hybrids with fruit, chocolate, mascarpone . It's a large, impressive menu to sort through, as you stand in line using a touch screen to order. You can add on items, too. Beverages include decent coffee, espresso, juices, ice tea, beer, and wine. The staff is friendly. Definitely worth a visit (or two or three). read more
