I cannot emphasize enough about how much this place means to me. Tucked in the corner of a strip mall in Gardena, Sweet Rice has been one of my go-to spots for years now. Ran by the sweetest ladies, this place is cozy and always makes you feel at home. Having been featured in the Michelin Guide, you'll understand why when you come here. Their specialty is Thai breakfast, with an assortment of rice and noodle dishes like Khao Soi, Thai Omelette, Thai-Style Hainan Chicken, etc. However, for all the dishes I have tried here, I always find myself coming back for the Thai Omelette! There's a kick of nostalgia whenever I eat here, and I love the feeling you get when eating the food here. If you ever need your fix, come here first and come back for more!
Sweet Rice is my #1 restaurant that I recommend to everyone to try! Everything here tastes so good and since it's more of a "breakfast" spot, it has items on the menu that your typical Thai restaurant doesn't have. My go-to items are the Thai Omelette with Shrimp, Roast Duck Noodle Soup, Tom Yum noodle soup, and Cha Manao which is Thai Tea with Lime. Gardena has so many great restaurants and Sweet Rice is such a great addition to the community! The plaza that it's in has other yummy restaurants and boba/dessert as well.

I've been here a handful of times and I absolutely love their Khao Soi. It's so creamy, rich, and full of flavor I can never get enough of it. I usually get the beef option and it's perfect with the coconut curry broth, crunchy fried noodles, and fresh veggies all working together so well. I also love dining in because they offer a variety of spice options. There's even a little setup with jars of different chilies and spices so you can adjust the heat to your liking. My husband wanted something sweet so we shared the mango sticky rice and it was so addicting especially with warmer weather starting to roll in. It really feels like summer is on the way !!! On top of the food, the customer service is always so kind and attentive. 10/10 highly recommend!
One of my favorite Thai places in the Southbay and in LA in general. They earned their bib gourmand recognition. Their palo pork stew, Khao soi, roasted duck noodles and curries the star of the show. Each dish had its unique flavors that are balanced and flavorful. All of it has soft meats of your choice. The Thai omelette is surprisingly very good also. Their mango stich rice when in season is divine. The staff is super nice and always very helpful with utensils, condiments and other amenities. There is outdoor seating and both are very quiet to chat with other people. The atmosphere is very chill and casual.

The Michelin Guide highlighted jok (Thai Porridge) as the dish to get. *** Kai Soi (yellow curry, egg noodle, bean sprouts, pickled mustard greens, red onion, fried onion, cilantro, wonton crisps, lime wedge - chicken $17.99): Good broth, but it was not good as Kai Soi from Chiang Rai in Long Beach. *** If I am craving for Thai food and don't want to wait, then this is the spot I would be visiting in the South Bay without having to drive to Long Beach.
Ordered two Kao Soi's and mango sticky rice for dinner this evening. For the young ones out there who happen to see my review, you must order the mango sticky rice. The mangos were fire! Sweet and flavorful! The sticky rice was good but the mangoes . Also take a look, this is the second Michelin announcement, I think the next time they get a star.
Khao Soi beef... the end. That's all you need to know. Seriously. But forreal, this place makes my foodie heart flutter when I I'm craving a good comforting meal. The KHAO SOI Beef is my must try, go to dish here! It's yellow curry, egg noodle, bean sprouts, pickled mustard greens, red onions, fried onions, cilantro, wonton crisps, lime wedge... CHOICE OF: CHICKEN, TOFU, BEEF, or SHRIMP. The flavor and texture combo in this dish hits every time! I always end up having leftovers and I add my own rice the next day and it's soooo good! Do yourself a favor and try it out! No frills type place, you order at the counter have a seat and enjoy. Honorable mention to their Thai tea, it's yummy! I'm definitely a fan! Happy eats, loves! ^_^
Was in the area on a Sunday afternoon and decided to give this place a try. It's located inside a huge shopping center so there's ample amount of parking. It looks like the owner opened 3 shops. This one, a bbq spot and a hot pot spot. My wife opted to try this one out today. . We got seated right away and the waitress recommended the koi soi noodle soup so my wife ordered the chicken and I ordered the beef. It's all pre-prepped so everything came out quick. It comes with egg noodles and the flavor tasted like creamy yellow curry w a medium level spice. My wife said it tasted better after she added more chili. I thought it was spicy enough. Everything was really good but I thought they could give more beef. It was just a spoonful and I didn't get full off this. Overall: service was really good. The place was clean. We would come back again if my wife wants to. I'm curious what the bbq spot taste like so would like to try that place out.
I was excited to try this place but was a little let down. I had heard they were known for their Khao soi and really enjoy that dish. However, theirs didn't stand out; unfortunately, it was actually kind of lackluster. And it wasn't that much of a portion for being $18. The dish didn't even come out that fresh/hot. They didn't give much noodles and seemed to just throw on a bunch of toppings to fill the dish, which even then, the toppings were just okay. The workers were also not too friendly here, and it wasn't busy when we came. I wouldn't go here again for anything other than if I wanted to try their mango sticky rice.
The restaurant is located in a shopping plaza anchored by Tokyo Central Market and Sea Empress Restaurant in Gardena. Inside it is well lit, clean and spacious with seating for 30 guests. Orders can be placed through friendly and welcoming staff at the front counter. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: Wontons Soup with Wide Rice Noodles: At the first sip of the broth, I was surprised by the flavor. It was clear, light but super savory, and hit your palate like a train and it kept coming. The wide rice noodles were perfectly cooked and slightly al dente. There were generous quantities of tasty and nicely springy texture wontons. And the party kept going with delicious fish cakes, lobster and fish balls in the soup. Khao Soi: This was an opposite dish from clear broth Wonton Soup. The creamy coconut curry sauce was rich and tasty, not too spicy nor sweet. The thin egg noodles were nicely al dente. The chicken pieces were quite tender. The slightly sour pickled veggies and a tad sweet fried onions gave a balancing taste to the sauce. Lastly, the wonton wrap strips provided satisfying crunch to the dish. The prices were reasonable and portions generous. The restaurant is definitely worth repeat visits.
Nice Thai food spot tucked into a plaza in Gardena. I feel like there's not too many Thai food restaurants out there, so it was nice to have a cuisine I haven't had in a while. For my drink I had the Thai Iced Tea which was great, perfectly balanced. Someone in my party shared their noodles with me, I'm not sure what the name of the dish was unfortunately. It was a chicken noodle and delicious! I wasn't too hungry today, but I would love to come back and have a bowl all to myself. I also had the mango sticky rice, which had a wonderfully sweet mango. Plus the service was great. When the worker came to take away some bowls, she picked up trash like a water bottle that we brought in and cleaned up any spills on the table. Would highly recommend this place!
Food was great! This restaurant isn't exactly your typical restaurant, but more so casual dining. You order at the cashier and they'll bring your food to the table. Honestly pretty efficient! The employees here were also very friendly, giving off homey vibes! I got the khao soi and my bf got the boat noodle. Both were pretty good! The khao soi was a lot lighter than I thought, which I thought the soup base would be heavier? Which it wasn't at all! Flavors were nice, a bit more on the subtle side. The boat noodle was very fragrant, pretty solid. We got the Thai iced tea to share and it has this really smoky flavor that I wasn't too fond of? But it was extremely sweet, so I would pass on the Thai tea imo. Otherwise, food and service was pretty solid. There was plenty of seating for a Sunday dinner night.

- just moved to the area and found this hidden gem. It definitely hit the spot. I noticed a lot of Thai places surrounding does not have Thai boat noodle so this made me soooo happy . Very flavorful and delicious, excited to try more things on the menu next time! Lady at the counter was very friendly and welcoming. read more

I'm always used to Thai food being curry, this place has a nice selection of noodles! I got the duck noodle recommended by the waitress and I loved it! Sweet and tangy soup and the noodle paired well with it! I can't wait to go back to try the other noodles! It's awesome it's located at the pacific square. You have a whole plaza to drop by for dessert or coffee afterwards. read more

Sweet Rice is located in a shopping strip that has numerous restaurants so don't get distracted and head right over to their location. I had a pork soup that came with rice and it was really good. The pork was not fatty. When you walk in you can either order at the counter to-go or dine in. There's plenty of tables inside, no outdoor seating. They have small desert options but a variety of meal options. read more
We first started coming here during the pandemic over five years ago even then the food was out of this world as you might be able to tell by my previous reviews. Since then, in 2025 this small, unassuming noodle house has earned a well deserved Michelin rating and opened up a sister store across the breezeway in the quad ( excellent drunken noodles,by the way.) We were here again over the weekend and again, home run in terms of food (outstanding) and service (AAAAA). I cannot stress enough how important supporting these small businesses are... they were on the front lines during the COVID scare and kept us not just fed, but sustained ... think about that. The level of comfort provided during that time is immeasurable... and highly likely ever to be repaid. Love this place. Go here, be comforted. read more
Loved Sweet Rice! I had an order of the Tom Yum Ba Mee and Green Curry Chicken. Both were equally delicious in their own way. Service was friendly. They don't check up on you to see if you need anything else. They have a self serving water and ice station and cups for you to grab. The only minute issue I had was the lack of napkins. I could not find any and getting the attention of the staff was a bit difficult. Nonetheless, I would 100% come back here. read more

Was in the area and decided why not treat myself to the best mango sticky rice EVER. They were so sweet, fast, and their cute wooden animals they sell are so adorable. I received my order super fast and devoured it super fast. Can't wait to eat it again! read more
This place is right next to my house and I think maybe my expectations were a bit too high cuz I was slightly disappointed. I came w my mom and she got the Thai beef noodle soup. It barely had any noodles and too much meat (according to her) and not enough broth. We contemplated asking for more broth but just decided not to because we were eating inside Bowl Thai and not Sweet Rice. I tried some of the broth and it had a sweet taste which I'm not a fan of. I got tom yum noodle soup. It was okay but it barely had any noodles and it was mostly bean sprouts and like 2 tiny little pieces of meat and the rest fishballs. I expected a little more tbh :/ Broth was yummy though. I also ordered the grilled beef salad from bowl Thai but it took so long I had to take it to-go and even to-go is self serve!!! Everything is self serve but at least the server brought our soups to us. read more

My favorite thai restaurant for Tom Yum Noodle soup! You order at the front and go have a seat. They have self service water and chilli sauce racks you can take to your table. Your food is served rather quickly. I always get their tom yum noodle, its sooo tangy,sweet,and savory. Whenever they have many sticky mango available,I will order it! The bowl thai next door is related to this restaurant so you can order from bowl thai and have it served inside sweet rice and vice-versa. read more
Another fantastic Thai food restaurant :) What a great experience! My friend and I have dinner at a different Gardena eatery every Friday and today we finally made it here after eating at Thai Hot Pot and Bowl Thai Grill. Food was just amazing! Incredibly flavorful and filling. I ordered the Khao Soi, my friend had the Thai Omelette w/chicken and we shared the Mango Sticky Rice. Oh, and I enjoyed the Dirty Thai Tea. The space is so open, inviting, and colorful. When you walk in you order at the counter and the food will be brought to your table. Staff is friendly and will check on you just to make sure things are okay but you won't ever feel pressured to hurry up. And if you don't want to dine in the restaurant you can always sit in the outdoor area to enjoy the weather. Get here ASAP and enjoy a delicious meal!!!! read more
There's a reason why this place had a Michelin distinction! Best Thai food in the area for sure! Anytime I'm around the area, this is a place I would need to go. Everything that I had complimented well, the curry itself had a very nice aroma, nice plating, and everything was just so good! The service was a great as well. They were able to give me a military discount and last time when I came here in uniform, the drink was for free! 10/10 for sure! read more

Pretty decent Thai noodles overall. The portions were great and the meat in the noodle itself was plentiful. It's probably the specific dish I got but the broth was a little too sour for my liking. Overall decent, nothing crazy for me to go GAZOONGA over. read more
Came here for lunch on a Saturday. The place was pretty busy, with some people dining in and other getting takeout. I ordered the Kao Soi with chicken and also got Khao Kha Moo for takeout. The prices aren't exactly cheap, but the portions were decent and both dishes were full of flavor. The food came out quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. Parking is free in the plaza, although it seems to be quite full every time I've been here. read more

This is a fantastic fast-casual spot for Thai food, specifically noodle soups. They are most well known for the Khao Soi, which is a thick, creamy coconut curry broth with egg noodles, fresh onions, and pickled mustard greens. There are also crispy noodles on top that give the dish great texture. A squeeze of lime halfway through the bowl awakens the dish for a second wonderful experience. Every component of the dish is harmoniously combined for a perfect balance of savory, sweet, rich, and punchy. I also got their thai boat noodle soup, which is thickened with blood in the broth. It was wonderfully spiced, but definitely missed some kick. The meat was tender, and the overall dish was filling. This is a fantastic Thai spot to add to the rotation. read more

Gosh this place is so yummy and a friend-group favorite. Go-to is the chicken khai soi, a curry noodle soup. I always crave it because I can't often find it at other Thai restaurants! Also, mango sticky rice is a must. Need to know where they get their mangos, even on off season - they are always so sweet! Food comes out quickly and they also have a sister restaurant next door if you're not into soup. Only knocking off a star because it's a bit pricey. With tax and 15% tip, I spend $20 on one dish. read more

I'm sure that everything at Sweet Rice must be good, but the Khao Soi with tofu that I had there today was so amazing that I will order it every one of the many times I plan to go there in the future! A friend and I chose Sweet Rice quickly before we explored Tokyo Central market, and I'm so glad we did. We were served quickly, the atmosphere was nice, and like I said, the food was amazing. My friend loved her shrimp soup, and I was so glad she gave me a little bit of the donut-like treat that came with it. I'm so glad I found such a great restaurant in this area, since it's about halfway between me and many of my friends. I can't wait to return! read more

The food is sooo good we ordered the chicken khao soi and ba mee haeng and would get those again. The owner showed us how to eat the ba mee haeng and even told us what condiments to add for spicy, savory, or sour enhancers. Service was quick, they cleaned up for us right away we ended up ordering an extra mango sticky rice to go because of how good it was. They don't skimp on the portions at all u literally get a whole mango with a cup of rice and fluffy coconut cream read more

This spot has been our Thai Food go-to spot for years. We always recommend & bring our friends and family here. We are regulars, the workers already are familiar with our face; service is so welcoming. There is a lot of space plus Bowl Thai is next door sister company. Food is authentically flavorful. We always order Beef Khao Soi & Beef Sate with cucumber salad, and Crab Omelette. I always have to have a Thai Iced Tea & bf Thai Iced Coffee. And Mango Sweet Rice is a Must. read more

They have a fabulous yummy coconut dairy free ice cream ... sooo good!
Do they offer outdoor dining? I noticed a single outside table the other day but I wasn't sure if it was part of their service at this time.
Yes! We just dined outside yesterday. Order inside and they will give you a device that will buzz when your order is ready. You then can eat at outside table. :) Enjoy!

why not? they own the business. But frankly, it's probably the economics, most customers come for the lunch/dinner time frames.
