This is a little hidden gem in Manhattan, loved the cozy ambiance and it was packed within ten minutes of opening. The rolls were palatable and tons of flavor fresh and loooved that they served mulled wine during the cold season and the only place that carries it! The food and ambience was amazing. I ordered brussel sprouts and the mushroom miso ramen (vegan). Wonderful service, until the shift changed and there was a different server... She asked me if I needed to go boxes for my food and I said no thank you, then she continued to clean off my table, first of all I was not done eating. And she gave me the bill without even asking. Absolutely loved the vegan sushi here!! This place is not 100% vegan, but has plenty of vegan rolls (not just a simple vegetable roll, but speciality vegan rolls!). The green garden roll with truffle/ mushrooms was THE BEST. Must try. Also enjoyed the vegan dynamite role. Delicious, hearty & filling! There were so many more menu items I wanted to try and wish I could eat all of it. I will just have to come back (and definitely repeat that truffle roll, yummm). I rarely ever leave a negative review, However this was just absurd for how small & expensive the items were. The baked salmon roll didn't taste fresh at all & had little to no flavor at all. $20 for the small portion size of baked salmon roll $14 for this small hand roll that was smaller than a snickers bar. Heads up: This is an unhealthy omnivore's review lol. I don't like diet foods or specifically healthy foods or low calorie substitute foods. I do appreciate the concept, where all the dishes are gluten-free, organic, natural, and vegan friendly. Their policy is that they do not use any chemical preservatives, artificial color, chemical seasonings etc. I ordered the omakase ($39) and substituted albacore for yellowtail. They also ran out of uni so I got another toro instead. The sushi here is made with brown rice that is not flavored or vinegared. So it was distracting eating it because it didn't really taste like sushi. The fish quality was not great - more like Japanese supermarket quality. Not worth the price. read more

They also have a $31 pre fixe where you choose an appetizer, starter, roll and dessert. And they also have a ramen lunch deal. I am going to need to come back to this place so I can try everything. It's 2 stars for the meat and 4 stars for anything vegan so that averages out to 3. Their Miso Cod is sweet and has a slightly rubbery texture, and the Yellowtail Collar is dry in some spots, though it's clearly a quality cut. The Sunset Dream sushi has bluefin tuna on top that was turning brown. Tasted okay, but the color was questionable. The crispy kale dissolves into puddles of actual oil, which is incredibly unpleasant. We should have listened to our server more. The vegan options we had were absolutely fantastic! A side of Kabocha Pumpkin atones with a sizeable dish with a saute so superb it tastes like pure caramel. The Green Garden roll is has a meaty mushroom beneath an avocado cream. Truffle sauce offsets the soft-spoken savor and makes is flavors pop. We ordered poorly here, but their vegan potential is clear. Oh my...like. Oh my. This was such an amazing meal!! Ambiance was great, a little chilly but it was still comfortable and right off the main road that runs through town which makes for easy access. Street parking available which was easy to find. The food. The food almost brought a tear to the eye. My man is NOT gluten free but I am so it's always a toss up on if he's going to like the food or not but he said he's never had crispy rock shrimp like this before in his life. It was unreal. So crispy and the homemade sauce was paired perfectly. The sushi rolls were great. The Rising Sun Roll & the Lobster Dynamite Roll were both great. I'd highlight that the Rising Sun Roll was better than the Lobster Dynamite roll but the Lobster one was still good. I'd go for the Rising Sun Roll again, and replace the Lobster Dynamite roll for the Crispy Rice or the Crispy Salmon next time since those two seem to be popular. The MISO COD. Don't miss out. My man mentioned it tasted similar to a sweetened oatmeal but I said it tasted like a warm soft cake. The fish was just perfect. I have added a picture for your viewing pleasure but since we already dove in, it probably didn't do it much justice but a nice light crisp on the outside and hot and melty in the middle. The sauce too. It's just amazing. We got two beers (most options being gluten free) & the food above and our total came out to $115 & I would have paid more for this delicious treat. Nobu has similar dishes to what they have going on here at Rice & I'd come to Rice 10x's over going to Nobu. The food is unbeatable! Thank god for this gluten free Heaven. I WILL be back! read more

Vegan sushi strikes again! I went here with my vegan friend, and we had tons of options. Everything tasted really good except one dish--so let's start there. The sautéed broccoli is a no for me, which is unfortunate because I love broccoli :-( and it was actually broccolini, not broccoli. It was over cooked and the flavor was so mild that it was basically absent. I like my veggies to have a bit of a crunch to them, and this had no crunch. It tasted like it was just sautéed in sesame oil with three grains of salt. The crispy tofu with mushroom sauce was pretty good. It needed salt but got the job done. It actually wasn't crispy at all, now that I think about it. But the Brussels sprouts were FIRE! And all the rolls we had were soooo good! My favorite was the green garden roll, followed by the crispy rice tofu. There was another roll that had a smoky flavor but I can't remember the name. That was really good. The yellow brick road was good, but not as flavorful as the others. It's main wow factor was the crispy kale they served with it (which were kind of oily by the way--so if you're calorie counting, maybe avoid that). Great place! Exactly what I wanted- low key but still elegant, quaint, and clean establishment! I had forgotten that I bookmarked this place who-knows-when, so when I was in the area and it popped up I was really excited to try it out. The vegan sushi was beautifully presented and delicious (we got the Yellow Submarine and Purple Revolution), and the Sashimi Boat was also fresh and lovely!!! And their vegan options are just as good as their regular sushi. I also love that they use brown rice instead of white so it's a lot healthier for you.
