Great place! Exactly what I wanted- low key but still elegant, quaint, and clean establishment! I had forgotten that I bookmarked this place who-knows-when, so when I was in the area and it popped up I was really excited to try it out. The vegan sushi was beautifully presented and delicious (we got the Yellow Submarine and Purple Revolution), and the Sashimi Boat was also fresh and lovely!!! A great destination for gluten-free diner, since the entire menu is gluten-free, but I enjoyed my experience here more conceptionally than in practice. Every dish struck me as in need of improvement somehow. The shrimp tempura was relatively flavorless, and the sauce provided was very thin and runny.the orange crispy salmon was therapy, sweet, which made it hard to enjoy. The crispy rice dishes were underwhelming, because the rice itself seemed to lack seasoning. So all in all I left a little disappointed, though I leave it to others to try for themselves. read more

I don't eat fish and love veggie sushi rolls. every place only has cucumber or avocado rolls, and i have been dying to try this place for a year. the vegan rolls are AMAZING!!' Vegetarian review: Everything was vegan and vegetarian friendly, from rolls to sushi to the vegetables. There's loads of stuff from which to choose. Shishito peppers were good, not overly salted, but definitely seasoned. The sushi rolls were great. Really tasty. The favorite by far: Green Garden roll with Buffalo Cauliflower and Yellow Brick Road following closely behind (well, not that closely). Parking- difficult, just like any beach city. I love this place. It's a small little spot, but not only do they have sushi, sashimi, ramen and tempura, but some of the dishes are vegan. This doesn't factor in for me personally, but occasionally my BF likes to eat plant-based for a time, and since I am a carnivore we sometimes have a hard time finding places. Their unique dish is the Crispy Rice which you can get with a few different toppings: Spicy Tuna, Spicy Salmon, spicy yellowtail or spicy tofu. I really like how crispy the rice base is. Edamame is also a great starter there and the sushi rolls are quite delicious as well. The food is also very visually appealing in addition to being very tasty. For two dollar signs on Yelp ...this is very misleading . I know it is manhattan beach area and things can be more pricey , but at least bump it to three dollar signs to warn innocent people trying to get a vegetarian sushi roll or two and end up paying upwards of 40 bucks for two SMALL ROLLS. The people answering the phone and the waitresses were nice and attentive - the food itself was very delicious - the food also came out lightening quick - but seriously ... at the price point ... it's not something I would pay for again . I had the dynamite roll and was very please for the 2 minutes it lasted because the sushi was made for barbies or small toy figurines . I am not thw one with the largest appetite or to complain usually but come on .. for a tofu roll with spicy sauce , a small layer of brown rice , and some sauce ... it's not 18.00 I would pay again . I think they would have more service if they reconsidered their overpriced Barbie sushi . Sorry to say . If I had the money though and didn't mind spending 20.00 a rolll for veggies rolls , I'd be here all the time . Power to you if that's you ! Because it was delicious haha ! read more

Gave this a try on a Thursday night. There wasn't too many folks here as many tables were empty in comparison to many other restaurants nearby which were full of people. Initially, I was a little off put by it, but continued with our plans anyway. This place is quite small, but kept really well and has a nice display case of various sakis and Japanese craft beer. We tried the citrus salmon roll, Crunchy Lobster Dynamite Roll, Americano Miso Ramen and Lobster Miso Ramen. The Ramen both of them were absolutely delicious , there was not a drop left in either bowl. Plenty of shrimp in the Americano and Lobster in the other. It was a perfect balance and with the crispy kale it was perfect. Highly recommend either ramen. The Crunchy Lobster Roll was really good and so was the citrus salmon. They both tasted fresh and were not completely drenched in sauce, which may be offputting to some if they are expecting a typical sushi roll drowned in sauce. We left satisfied and felt like we had an incredibly healthy meal and also the Japanese craft IPA was delicious. read more

There is a lot to like here, including the great location and friendly staff. There is some quirk here also, like the fact that everything is made with brown rice, which absolutely changes the flavor and texture you would normally expect from sushi. There is very little to avoid here, but the quality of the yellowtail we were served was barely average (although the bluefin toro was top notch). Like most MB restaurants, the dining room is a little small, with tables fairly close to each other. The menu is built around more of an Americanization of sushi, with a lot of layered rolls, fried fish and brown rice. The sashimi and sushi cuts are quite small, although most of the fish selections are fairly nice quality (on the night we dined here, the yellowtail was barely acceptable, but everything else was very good). Our wait staff was friendly, helpful and adept at dealing with a very rude table near us (they did everything possible to keep the loud, obnoxious, demanding tourist children from disrupting the rest of the guests, so congratulations there). read more

Delicious!! First time trying gluten free ramen and I couldn't believe it was actually gluten free. The chocolate cake was so rich and smooth. I got the California ramen and it was crunchy, smooth, flavorful and the bowls are huge. So worth it! The water was the best water I have ever drank in my entire life and that is coming from someone who's parents own a water purifying business. I realized that the rolls were priced higher than your average rolls for less quantity. They were good bite size though. In other words, you're paying for quality, not quantity. Since they're made from brown rice, I was easily full. My wallet appreciated that, but I definitely had to fight the temptation of ordering everything off the menu. My struggle is finding places with robust vegetarian options or with a vegetarian menu that was clearly not an afterthought. My omnivore husband was also happy with his dragon roll and crispy rice spicy tuna. Server was very friendly and attentive. We recently visited Rice restaurant for a late night bite. It was crowded for a late night weekend bite. Cute decor, healthy rice based. Being a ramen connoisseur, I was not thrilled nor a fan of their ramen for multiple reasons. Food is so-so, price is on the high side compare to other amazing well known ramen shops, service was not to par. We had to flag down servers multiples time to be acknowledged and we sat right by the entrance door. We ordered the Lobster Miso Ramen and California Miso Ramen. First, the good. The lobster was lightly fried, tender, juicy on the side dish with a generous portion. I did enjoy the lobster. The not so good: I'm not a fan of their miso soup (vegan or veggie based?) nor the ramen rice noodle. Overall the soup base felt gritty, flat, too sweet for my taste nor robust enough or umami taste compare to other tonkotsu soup base. The noodle is rice based, felt soggy. It's like eating a soggy pho rice noodle (without the bounce) swimming inside a so-so miso broth. The only thing good about the California miso ramen was the real snow crab (not the imitation krab) and garlic chip. Though be mindful they charge $2 extra for a small amount of garlic chip without a heads up. Again, not crazy about the rest: noodle and miso soup broth. In general, if you're gluten free and health conscious, I can see this place being perfect for you. As a serious ramen snob, it was interesting to try, however this place is not for us. LOL, way too healthy for us. read more

First, this is a very nice quaint place. It's intimate with a nice welcoming atmosphere. I got the 29 dollar 3 course lunch menu with an extra roll. First up was the miso soup. It came out nice and hot tasted like a normal miso soup. One thing I did forget to mention is that this is geared to more if the healthy life style of food meaning vegan and organic brown rice for sushi. Which in opinion does make it taste different if you are used to eating traditional sushi rice. This leads me to the rolls. Now the spicy salmon for my was just not my cup of tea the texture and the flavor were just off. I did not like how the salmon was all minced and formed. Now the rainbow when I got it was warm. It was good but like I said the flavor was off and could have been because of the brown rice. Out of everything the backed salmon was the best it was full of delicious flavor. read more

Rice was AMAZING. For vegans and sushi connoisseurs. Nothing but good things to say about the amazing rolls. We had the spicy Buffalo cauliflower, the vegan dynamite roll,the dragon roll, and the citrus salmon roll. The snow sake cocktail was also exquisite. They have vegan green tea cake as well, which is super delicious and amazingly dairy free. The outside patio boasts heat lamps and a cute court yard. This place is great for people who have celiac disease. Everything at Rice is gluten free and it's a dedicated restaurant. My wife loved everything on the menu she ordered- crab cake and sushi. Our friends and I ordered the lobster ramen. If you order it normal, it will not be spicy. I would add some spice if you like things spicy like I do. The reason I am giving them a 4 star rating is due to lack of service or communication. The night before my pregnant wife and I made reservations, drove 30 minutes to find the restaurant closed due maintenance. Unfortunately, when we were able to go the next day, the service wasn't prompt or checked in during our time. Would I go back? Yeah if my wife wanted to. Hope this helps! As a gluten free person I was so excited to find a ramen shop with so many delicious sounding options. Unfortunately the reviews calling the food bland are right and there was really no flavor in the soup. I only had a few bites in the restaurant and took the rest to go so I could add some flavor at home. Don't bother taking the soup to go lol the noodles completely disintegrated. The restaurant itself is nice but they have the tables so tightly packed together it kind of takes away from the experience. I'm glad I went but I definitely won't ever be returning. read more

My friend was visiting me from out of time, so I was looking for a place nearby for a catch up. Now that we both have aged (gulp with a sad look), my friend eats a lot healthier than when i first knew him...so we decided to try Rice. The menu has good selection (mostly rolls and ramen)..although they also offer set meals as well. He and I each had our own ramen, cups of tea and shared a roll. The food was good though I would say it was authentic. My friend, in particular, liked the fact that the ramen soup wasn't too oily like he was used to. I thought the service was just ok though. We had to ask for additional hot water for our cups of tea and for soy sauce, ginger and wasabi as well. Overall, the price came to around $75 (not incl tips). It was a bit pricey compared to what I was used to. But given a better ambience and its prime location in Manhattan Beach, their price range was as expected. My friend who flew in from SF was more used to a more pricey sticker price...so it was more normal for him i guess. Overall, a decent place. I wouldn't mind stopping by again if I was meeting someone in Manhattan Beach. read more

We came for an early dinner on a Friday night. They have a cute outdoor seating area downstairs in the back courtyard and a decent amount of indoor dining as well. Service was attentive and pleasant. I don't have much to comment on the rolls. The crispy rice sampler was very interesting. If you've never had it before, I think it's something that you just have to get used to. The texture of the rice and the mush of raw meat on top wasn't my favorite. However !!!! This salmon collar is the juiciest, fattest, and tastiest collar I have ever had. I am craving it as I type this. I could probably eat 3 of them by myself because it's that good. If I'm ever in the area, I want to try this place again to try the salmon collar haha read more
