I'm a big fan of true food kitchen, and have been to the Walnut Creek, Palo Alto, and Newport location. This was my first time in the El Segundo location and I absolutely loved it! It's located in a shopping area in El Segundo called The Point. Parking: parking can be a little tricky, but it's free parking! Such an anomaly in the LA area lol. Kat was our waitress and she was phenomenal. Camine also came by and she was so hospitable. Everything that we ordered was on point! (Pun intended lol). My daughter got the cheese pizza and my son got the penne pasta. I kind of wish they had a side of vegetables or fruit, but thankfully, I had just given my kids some fruit before, so avoided the mom guilt lol. The edamame dumplings is an absolute must! It's an umami flavored dish! We also got the eggplant dish, and it was really good! If you've been to elephante in Santa Monica, it kind of reminds me of that, but the eggplant is a little bit more dense, but really great flavors. You may have to order an extra eggplant dip, because the ratio isn't exactly favorable towards the eggplant. Got the kale salad with shrimp. The shrimp was cooked to perfection! Kale was pretty good, but asked for extra cheese. My husband was all about the burger and he claimed it was one of the best burgers he's ever had! He got an IPA beer and I got a watermelon mint Mojito. It was really good, but I think I will try the skinny margarita next time. Do Not Plan Events Here Extremely disappointing experience. We booked True Food Kitchen for a family celebration. Before signing the contract, we were told that customer satisfaction was their top priority, but unfortunately, that was not our experience. We originally discussed 40 guests with a $1,500 patio fee and were told that adding 10 more guests would be approximately another $1,000. After signing, the pricing unexpectedly changed to $8,000 and later $3,000. We were also given additional restrictions that had not been discussed initially. Despite trying to communicate and resolve everything, the process became extremely difficult and inconsistent. Ultimately, just five days before our event, we had to find another restaurant and move our entire event elsewhere. We are local business owners and plan events regularly. I have never experienced a restaurant being this difficult to work with. Update: The response is misleading and does not reflect what actually happened. Our final guest count was 50, not 55, and 50 guests was clearly noted in the signed contract. Yet after signing, they introduced completely different pricing and an $8,000 full-restaurant buyout. Their one side of the family patio currently has 50 seats. So the claim that our party of 50 somehow required an $8,000 full-restaurant buyout is even more confusing. I felt we were being treated unfairly and differently throughout the process, particularly when the pricing suddenly changed after we had signed the contract. Their own General Manager admitted they rarely host events, and it showed. The entire process was disorganized, inconsistent, and unnecessarily stressful. We walked away because we no longer trusted this restaurant with an important family event and had no interest in spending another dollar here. If you value your time and want a stress-free event, I strongly recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I was really excited to try this place. I love the point and the menu here looked appealing so we took a plunge but it wasn't a good one. On a busy Sunday evening , this restaurant was 75% empty. We were pleasantly surprised but I guess we know why now. Here is what we got 1) Peri Peri Chicken : An Average dish. Meat quality was good but taste just wasn't there. Bland 2) Edamame Dumpling : Super Bland and did not work at all. 3) Chicken Panini Sandwich: This was a disaster. They should stop calling this a Panini Sandwich. This dish was a PIZZA folded (see the photo I posted). This is NOT a Panini by any angle. The only saving grace here was it tasted ok. 4) Mushroom and Spinach Pizza : This was one of the most bland and boring pizza I've ever had. It just couldn't tickle my taste buds at all. Ordered a couple of items via their website. Walked in, it's pretty slow for a Friday 7pm. There was a person right before me so the host or waiter whatever he was situated the person, came back saw me still waiting decided to ignored me, another man who dressed in black jeans who was just standing there for the whole time told him to help me! He handed me the food awkwardly.10 bucks tip for that? Lol. I usually tip the car wash that amount and they do a whole a lot. Food was gross. Thin burned crusty pizza. Zero stars. Truly one of the WORST restaurants we've ever been to. The service was atrocious, and the food was subpar. We appreciated the gluten-free options, but that was the only positive. The restaurant wasn't super busy (6:45 PM on a weekday), but we still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. And when we were finally seated, the host didn't leave us with menus. It took almost 20 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge us, so my husband got the menus himself. Meanwhile, tables all around us were being seated with menus and being served while we were completely overlooked. We truly felt invisible. Although our server eventually showed up with waters and took our order, things didn't get any better. Our food took almost 30 minutes. The pizza was burnt and barely warm, while the burger and fries were at least hot. My husband actually enjoyed the burger, but the fries were hard. We were starving, so we ate what we could. The water was warm and the glasses were filthy, but we didn't bother asking for new waters given how bad the service was. By the end of the meal, it was obvious the servers had no idea what they were doing. Maybe the restaurant was understaffed, but it was clear they were disorganized and had no system in place. I've worked as a server before, and it's SO important to multitask. If you're bringing drinks to one table, you should also be monitoring or checking on your other tables to see if they need anything. Instead, it felt like every task required a separate trip, which made the service painfully slow. Overall, eating here was a complete waste of time and money. I used to love True Foods but the menu changed and admittedly just didn't really crave it any more. Seeking air conditioning, decided to go again. At 6:30 on a Friday night, it was less than 25% full. That should've been the warning. We were seated right away, though the host tried to put us right next to the bathroom (even though the restaurant was mostly empty) We sat for nearly 10 minutes before someone came over (I had started timing by that point and we almost left). We ordered, and the food came in a reasonable amount of time, but it just wasn't the same. Apparently the restaurant took on new owners in 2022 (private equity) and whatever this was, it wasn't good. The turkey burger was terrible, and the chicken panini I had was overcooked and dry. Did we want dessert? No. If you used to like True Foods pre-2023, this is the same in name only. Mediocre flavorless food, mediocre service. North Italia next door was bumping--the problem is True Foods, not that people aren't going out. read more

Extremely disappointing experience at True Food Kitchen. We waited over 45 minutes after ordering for our food, despite the restaurant only having about 3 other tables being served at the time. When our food finally came out, it was cold. Even after waiting 45+ minutes, the restaurant still forgot one of the items we ordered. To make matters worse, I could actually see our food sitting in the kitchen for a good 15 minutes before the server even noticed it and brought it out. The service was honestly horrible from start to finish. On top of the poor service, the quality of the menu has significantly gone downhill, which is especially disappointing as someone who has been a fan of True Food Kitchen. This is absolutely not what I expect from True Food. I've been to other True Food locations and have consistently experienced amazing customer service and quality, so this particular experience was incredibly frustrating and disappointing. I really hope management addresses the issues with this location because customers should not have to wait 45+ minutes for cold food and forgotten items. read more

Was really hoping to have a 5 start experience to help promote more healthy restaurants. My wife loves this place, but has only been to the Newport location. We were in the area and tried a bunch of dishes/drinks, but they fell short of expectations. Service: staff was very nice. It was good, but they missed the mark several times to make it a great experience. Atmosphere: Was great weather on Sunday, so enjoyed the outdoor area. It was clean and noise level was low, so we could enjoy conversation over brunch. Food: Unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. The Green drink and Watermelon cocktail were both really good. So were the edamame dumplings. However, it wasn't the best All Grain bowl; and my wife has had it several times from the other location. The Peri peri plate had great chicken, but the rest of it was lack luster. This restaurant has far too much liquid. Met a friend here for dinner, and was very happy at so many vegetarian options. We decided to share the edamame dumpling appetizer, which sounded interesting and yummy. It was really odd! It wasn't the kind of dumplings I'd expect, it was wontons floating in a lot of liquid of some sort in a big bowl, and we were given little plates and forks for eating it. Well, scooping liquid onto plates doesn't work very well. There were very few wontons, not enough to be filling, and we didn't get much of the broth because, y'know, plates and forks. We both got the Korean glass noodle entree, hers with steak and mine with organic tofu. Yay tofu! But again, it came in a liquid which hadn't been mentioned on the menu. It was challenging to eat with a fork and knife, which is what was provided. I ate it all, and it didn't fill me up that much. And it didn't taste that great. Hmm. There was a seasonal peach and raspberry crumble, so I ordered that for dessert. It sounded like the perfect end to a meal on a hot summer day, especially one that wasn't very filling. Well, nope. It was fine, but again, kind of liquidy, not much crumble. Good, but not that good. So what's up with the liquid? Service was fine but not wonderful. Prices were a little high. The parking is great. The service is good. The interior is spacious. We have eaten here a number of times. It was our go-to restaurant in El Segundo. Unfortunately, they removed our two favorite items from the menu. I really enjoyed the curry bowl and my wife liked the ahi bowl. This time I had the jambalaya. It was fine. Next time, I would ask for rice instead of noodles. But I would not come back here just for the jambalaya. It wasn't anything special. My wife had the ancient grain bowl. Again it was okay. If I could give 3.5 stars, I would. Service is quite good which brings the score up. Ambiance is also pretty great and I love how convenient it is in the point. However the food was really mediocre and hit or miss. We got multiple entrees and I tried some of other people's. The bad: -The Chinese chicken salad was weird, I've never had anything like it but would NOT get it again. The ingredients a bit obscure which is fine but the dressing was unappetizing. -Adding "steak" to a salad- the "steak" that was added to our salad looked like chewed up dog food. Weird chunks that was so gross and chewy. I've had better steak at chipotle or any other establishment. They should really remove this option. MEH: -Salmon- salmon was cooked fine. The service was the highlight of our visit. Our server was friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout our business lunch. Unfortunately, the food was pretty unremarkable. I ordered the turkey burger, which the menu describes as having Diestel Farms turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, tomato, butter lettuce, and jalapeño remoulade. Mine looked nothing like the photo on the website. I couldn't find any avocado, tomato, or butter lettuce, and there was only a small dab of sauce. The burger itself reminded me of a very basic fast food burger, just made with turkey. It was small, dense, served on a plain bun, and lacked the fresh toppings and flavor you'd expect from a restaurant. At $18.95 with a side of kale salad, it was a disappointing value. The kale salad was fresh but noticeably overdressed. No one at our table complained, but no one commented on how good the food was either. It was simply an unremarkable lunch. True Food has been one of the biggest disappoints of 2026. We were at Proud Bird, and of all the places, decided to go to True Food, that promises healthy and delicious food. Unfortunately, it was either a bad day (Friday 7 pm) or their standards have dropped drastically. Service was probably some of the worst we have encountered. Probably a result of being short staffed, as even the person behind the bar was taking and serving table orders. The drinks were super sweet, despite checking in and expressing that we want to taste the sparkling water based mocktails. Probably made in a rush. The appetizer didn't arrive until the check. Some mixup, and it was undercooked. Imagine soggy edamame truffle dumping where all you taste is artificial truffle oil and soggy raw dough. A Turkey burger, where the highlight was it was salty. No flavor. Our request for some mustard was acknowledged three times by different servers, but did not result in any condiments. The only thing prompt was when we asked for the check. The vegan burger was a disaster. It was so sweet that you felt like you were eating a dessert. Nothing in the description promoted that it would be sugar border. Here's the description: PLANT-BASED DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER house-made portobello, beet, and walnut vegan patty, butter lettuce, pickled onions, tomato, vegan cheese, jalapeño rémoulade -- There was no jalapeño or any flavor other than deep fried patty, salt and the remnants of a sugarcane field. The air fried French fries were inconsistent, some burnt to a crisp, others almost raw. The sad part is that we have enjoyed True Food Kitchen in the past, so it wasn't like we were trying something unknown. Except it seems that the amazing founders (great story and concept) have expanded too fast and been unable to deliver to their brand ethos. I escaped LAX during a layover (before the red eye home!) to enjoy my favorite meal at TFK. This is a chain so I've been to these before but this one is a standout. The servers and staff really fo above and beyond to be warm and welcoming. My go to meal is the season soup, the kale salad with no cheese add salmon and occasionally I order the fries. First off we waited 20 minutes for a table when the restaurant was less than half full. Once seated and we ordered, it took 45 minutes to get our entrees. We ask the staff repeadedly when our food was going to be served. When our dinner finally arrived, the chicken skewers - that was a special of the day - was served cold. The Baseline: For an eclectic dining experience, the food offerings must be of quality for the variety offered, the seasoning/flavors must be special, the side dish offering must make sense with the other items, and the menu must be manageable. Food: Used the August 2025 brunch menu and had some new things. Ranchers Hash was good- great steak, great sauce, good veggies, and sweet potatoes was the base starch. I ended up wanting regular potatoes over the sweet potatoes (and I understand the sweet potatoes are the healthier option), but I will chalk that up to personal preference. Farmer's Market Scramble was also good but it suffered from the sweet potatoes verses potato battle with my group (potato wins for preference). The scrabbled eggs were silky, smooth and delicious and the cheddar added to the dish. The Lemon Blueberry Muffins were awesome and were a great ender desert for the meal. I also had an Iced Shakerato which was a great mid-afternoon coffee fix. Service: We had a good waiter and was attentive. All water glasses were kept full once we got them. My wife has been here a few times. This was my first time coming here. I like the overall space, the food, and the service. There so many healthier choices for us to try. Everything is made fresh to order. There are many options or substitutions that can be made too for special diet needs or restrictions. There are plenty of drink or specialized spritzers and non-soda(s) as they do not sell. The food and drinks come out timely. The service is great and the servers make their own drinks, there is no one bar tender or bar-back. Again the food is on the healthier side no grease, sat/fats or transfats. Came her for two reasons: Restaurant Week and heard a lot about this place as one of the few that doesn't cut corners and gives you food made in house with healthier options and ethicallly sourced. Hard to do in this day age. Location: On PCH and Rosecrans in Manhattan Beach in the North Point shopping center. Food:Edamame dumplings were surprisingly tasty without drowning in oils or bland. Wasn't a fan of the mush interior, but I couldn't expect much from beans. Jumbalaya pasta with sausage. This was spicy with a slight kick, but not enough to make me stop eating it. This was a big plate although it didn't look it and I ended up taking the other 1/2 of it home with me. The flourless chocolate cake. I wouldn't call this a cake so much as a brownie with a dollop of ice cream on top. The cake was so thick and fudgey, I kept looking at it to make sure it was a cake and not substituted with something else on the menu. Still, good and satisfied my sweet tooth. Summary: This is a fusion American interpretive cuisine kind of plalce so don't expect authentic anything with the non-American dishes. What you can expect is house made and ethically sourced ingredients made to order, not frozen (I hope). Everything is light in oil and not as greasy as most places. Does that take away from the flavor? No, not reallly, just healthier. The service was excellent and they will gladly make substitutions for your allergies and preferences. The ambiance is bright, airy with plenty of space. And, yes, they do serve alcohol including their own cocktails. If you're used to heavy oils ,salt, grease and dishes drowning in butter, you won't find that here and others may think these dishes are tasteless. But for those who still want to go out, but not feel too guilty about doing so, this is your place. Is it pricey? Came at the suggestion of a friend I was dining with. Though familiar with some of the dining options at The Point this was my first visit to TFK and I was not disappointed. It was one of those perfect SoCal days and our seats near the entrance made for a perfect indoor/outdoor experience. Took some time to order as I hadn't perused the menu before coming but our waitress Chloe was very thorough in her review of the menu and responses to my many questions. She inquired about my tastes and made great recommendations on both my meal and drink choices. Loved my Korean Bowl w/Chicken and a refreshing watermelon based summer cocktail which Chloe recommended. Finished off our meal with a delicious raspberry/peach and ice cream dessert. All of the dishes came out quickly. A power outrage in the complex didn't dampen my enjoyment of lunch especially as Chloe made sure to check on us and let us know that all was ok!
