I'm a big fan of true food kitchen, and have been to the Walnut Creek, Palo Alto, and Newport location. This was my first time in the El Segundo location and I absolutely loved it! It's located in a shopping area in El Segundo called The Point. Parking: parking can be a little tricky, but it's free parking! Such an anomaly in the LA area lol. Kat was our waitress and she was phenomenal. Camine also came by and she was so hospitable. Everything that we ordered was on point! (Pun intended lol). My daughter got the cheese pizza and my son got the penne pasta. I kind of wish they had a side of vegetables or fruit, but thankfully, I had just given my kids some fruit before, so avoided the mom guilt lol. The edamame dumplings is an absolute must! It's an umami flavored dish! We also got the eggplant dish, and it was really good! If you've been to elephante in Santa Monica, it kind of reminds me of that, but the eggplant is a little bit more dense, but really great flavors. You may have to order an extra eggplant dip, because the ratio isn't exactly favorable towards the eggplant. Got the kale salad with shrimp. The shrimp was cooked to perfection! Kale was pretty good, but asked for extra cheese. My husband was all about the burger and he claimed it was one of the best burgers he's ever had! Zero stars. Truly one of the WORST restaurants we've ever been to. The service was atrocious, and the food was subpar. We appreciated the gluten-free options, but that was the only positive. The restaurant wasn't super busy (6:45 PM on a weekday), but we still had to wait 15 minutes for a table. And when we were finally seated, the host didn't leave us with menus. It took almost 20 minutes for our waitress to even acknowledge us, so my husband got the menus himself. Meanwhile, tables all around us were being seated with menus and being served while we were completely overlooked. We truly felt invisible. Although our server eventually showed up with waters and took our order, things didn't get any better. Our food took almost 30 minutes. The pizza was burnt and barely warm, while the burger and fries were at least hot. My husband actually enjoyed the burger, but the fries were hard. We were starving, so we ate what we could. The water was warm and the glasses were filthy, but we didn't bother asking for new waters given how bad the service was. By the end of the meal, it was obvious the servers had no idea what they were doing. Maybe the restaurant was understaffed, but it was clear they were disorganized and had no system in place. I've worked as a server before, and it's SO important to multitask. If you're bringing drinks to one table, you should also be monitoring or checking on your other tables to see if they need anything. Instead, it felt like every task required a separate trip, which made the service painfully slow. Overall, eating here was a complete waste of time and money. Was really hoping to have a 5 start experience to help promote more healthy restaurants. My wife loves this place, but has only been to the Newport location. We were in the area and tried a bunch of dishes/drinks, but they fell short of expectations. Service: staff was very nice. It was good, but they missed the mark several times to make it a great experience. Atmosphere: Was great weather on Sunday, so enjoyed the outdoor area. It was clean and noise level was low, so we could enjoy conversation over brunch. Food: Unfortunately, left a lot to be desired. The Green drink and Watermelon cocktail were both really good. The service was the highlight of our visit. Our server was friendly, efficient, and attentive throughout our business lunch. Unfortunately, the food was pretty unremarkable. I ordered the turkey burger, which the menu describes as having Diestel Farms turkey, smoked gouda, avocado, tomato, butter lettuce, and jalapeño remoulade. Mine looked nothing like the photo on the website. I couldn't find any avocado, tomato, or butter lettuce, and there was only a small dab of sauce. The burger itself reminded me of a very basic fast food burger, just made with turkey. It was small, dense, served on a plain bun, and lacked the fresh toppings and flavor you'd expect from a restaurant. At $18.95 with a side of kale salad, it was a disappointing value. The kale salad was fresh but noticeably overdressed. No one at our table complained, but no one commented on how good the food was either. It was simply an unremarkable lunch. True Food has been one of the biggest disappoints of 2026. We were at Proud Bird, and of all the places, decided to go to True Food, that promises healthy and delicious food. Unfortunately, it was either a bad day (Friday 7 pm) or their standards have dropped drastically. Service was probably some of the worst we have encountered. Probably a result of being short staffed, as even the person behind the bar was taking and serving table orders. The drinks were super sweet, despite checking in and expressing that we want to taste the sparkling water based mocktails. Probably made in a rush. The appetizer didn't arrive until the check. Some mixup, and it was undercooked. Imagine soggy edamame truffle dumping where all you taste is artificial truffle oil and soggy raw dough. A Turkey burger, where the highlight was it was salty. No flavor. Our request for some mustard was acknowledged three times by different servers, but did not result in any condiments. The only thing prompt was when we asked for the check. The vegan burger was a disaster. It was so sweet that you felt like you were eating a dessert. Nothing in the description promoted that it would be sugar border. Here's the description: PLANT-BASED DOUBLE CHEESEBURGER house-made portobello, beet, and walnut vegan patty, butter lettuce, pickled onions, tomato, vegan cheese, jalapeño rémoulade -- There was no jalapeño or any flavor other than deep fried patty, salt and the remnants of a sugarcane field. I ended up wanting regular potatoes over the sweet potatoes (and I understand the sweet potatoes are the healthier option), but I will chalk that up to personal preference. Farmer's Market Scramble was also good but it suffered from the sweet potatoes verses potato battle with my group (potato wins for preference). The scrabbled eggs were silky, smooth and delicious and the cheddar added to the dish. The Lemon Blueberry Muffins were awesome and were a great ender desert for the meal. Came her for two reasons: Restaurant Week and heard a lot about this place as one of the few that doesn't cut corners and gives you food made in house with healthier options and ethicallly sourced. Wasn't a fan of the mush interior, but I couldn't expect much from beans. Jumbalaya pasta with sausage. This was spicy with a slight kick, but not enough to make me stop eating it. This was a big plate although it didn't look it and I ended up taking the other 1/2 of it home with me. The flourless chocolate cake. I wouldn't call this a cake so much as a brownie with a dollop of ice cream on top. The cake was so thick and fudgey, I kept looking at it to make sure it was a cake and not substituted with something else on the menu. Still, good and satisfied my sweet tooth. Summary: This is a fusion American interpretive cuisine kind of plalce so don't expect authentic anything with the non-American dishes. What you can expect is house made and ethically sourced ingredients made to order, not frozen (I hope). Everything is light in oil and not as greasy as most places. Does that take away from the flavor? No, not reallly, just healthier. The service was excellent and they will gladly make substitutions for your allergies and preferences. The ambiance is bright, airy with plenty of space. And, yes, they do serve alcohol including their own cocktails. If you're used to heavy oils ,salt, grease and dishes drowning in butter, you won't find that here and others may think these dishes are tasteless. But for those who still want to go out, but not feel too guilty about doing so, this is your place. Is it pricey? I really like this spot because of the quality of food and ingredients you are getting, but in my opinion some of their menu items are definitely over-priced and the teriyaki bowl I ordered the chicken was dry and overcooked. 6$ for a small side of underwhelming sweet potato chips I could have purchased x5 the amount in sweet potatoes at the store and made them myself - assuming it's priced this way with labor/operating costs though so keeping that in mind. Our server greeted us, introduced the specials available, and patiently answered questions about ingredients to which I am allergic. He check-in regularly and ensured that each entree was just right. To start we had the guacamole (no cherry tomatoes) with flatbread crisps. It was salted well and tangy, pairing nicely with the peppers. I ordered the spicy Panang curry bowl with blackened shrimp and my friend had the lasagna al pesto. The curry had an enjoyable spice-level and was complimented by the sweet potato and bok choy.
