This has to be one of my favorite soba spots in the area and I love the homey vibe to it all! You order the counter and grab a seat anywhere. Once your food is ready, they'll bring it out to you. Water, tea, and utensils are self serve by the front door. After you're done, just bus your own table really quick and leave the tray at the return station by the register. My go to is usually the ten zaru because I love their cold soba! My friends like their yuzu broth sobas as well! Noodles have a great texture and I never leave feeling heavy. Great spot for a quick, easy, and fresh lunch! Better to eat this one there than take out! I was in the old Torrance and was craving Japanese cuisine. This is the original location, and I scored on complimentary street parking. I ordered the Yuzu chashu soba and sampled the Ten zaru soba with tempura. Both entrees reminded me of when I visited Hakone Japan last year and were outstanding in taste. The small eatery is very simple in decor with pics of the famous bamboo forest in Japan and gets packed with patrons on a Sunday. Service was on point and friendly. I ordered the meat soba, but unfortunately it was very disappointing this time. The noodles were clearly overcooked and extremely soft. Every time I tried to pick them up with my chopsticks, they kept breaking apart, which made them difficult to eat. There was also an unusually large amount of noodles but very little broth. On top of that, the broth tasted different from usual--it was cloudy and much weaker in flavor. For some reason, there was also wakame seaweed added randomly, which isn't normally included. I find it hard to believe that anyone could come to Ichimi Ann and have a bad experience. We were treated so kindly; we waited around just for a little bit for a table. The second one opened up, the lady (who was already busy taking people's orders) immediately came and started cleaning up the dirty dishes and wiped the table for us. I felt cared for! Many of the dishes come hot or cold. My friend and I both got the yuzu chashu, but one hot and one cold. It's essentially the same, but the hot version gets slightly more broth. The yuzu flavor came through subtly, and the chashu was perfectly chewy and fell apart upon biting. The noodles were cooked perfectly, but eat fast! They tended to cook more in the hot broth as time went on. Parking, seating, and pricing may be the only downsides. I also wish we got more than three pieces of edamame. Every time I'm in Torrance, I have to stop her! it's such a good lunch spot. Parking can be a bit limited in the front, but there's additional parking in the back. You order first, get a number, and they'll bring the food to your table. The space is on the smaller side, but there's usually plenty of seating when it's not too busy. Such a good spot for a quick meal! Ichimi Ann is an authentic Japanese spot located in Old Torrance next to Foster's Freeze. It's a smaller-sized restaurant with udon noodle, soba noodle, and rice entrees. You'll order at the counter on one side and all seating is in the adjacent room. You're given a number and your order is brought to your table. There is water, iced tea, and hot tea available to drink for free. It's not a great spot for large groups but we came in early on a Friday evening and there were plenty of seats open. I've heard it's usually pretty crowded so we lucked out. Service is very friendly. Everyone we encountered there was super nice. We ordered the kakiage udon, yamakake (yam) udon, and chicken curry. If you get a noodle dish, you choose between soba and udon noodles and whether you want the dish hot or cold. I used to come here when I was a child so the fact this place is still popular till this day says a lot about the food! As I remembered it, Ichimi Ann has the best authentic Japanese soba noodles. As someone who used to live in Japan during my college days, Ichimi Ann definitely gets a stamp of approval from me. The prices are a great value for what you're getting especially in the LA area. My friend and I both ordered the combo meal which you get your choice of 1 noodle and 1 rice bowl. Mine came out to a little under 30 dollars. There are so many ingredients that are not common in American Japanese restaurants that you will find here. Ume, Mentaiko, cold soba, and so much more. It's really nostalgic for me and I throughly enjoyed it. I also loved that they had self serve mujicha tea. This isn't a big restaurant. After we ordered we had to wait for people to leave before taking their table. It wasn't impossible as people were quick to eat and leave. We also came at a weird time on a Sunday (2:30pm ish) which is usually the time restaurants are dead...but not this one! The staff were friendly and quick. Parking is easy as it's in a quiet neighborhood off the Main Street. In summary, this place is a no frills, simple, Japanese restaurant. Their soba texture and style tastes way different than your average buckwheat noodles. It isn't as thick and reminds me of spaghetti noodles. It tastes very fresh and I'm pretty sure they make the noodles in house. Upon ordering there were so many combination and menu options to choose from. I got the soba combination with tempura and it was perfectly battered and very light. I loved the tempura here and am craving to go back. A little hack for digestion is to ask them for some soba water to drink after. They give it in a little Japanese teapot. Inside the restaurant it's really small and if you come in the afternoon on a weekend, there might be a line. This is my go to spot in the summer right after a visit to the Torrance farmers market. The shop is a street over from old town/downtown Torrance, tucked away next to a Foster's Freeze (iykyk). Really cute and small, they have self seating and you can grab your own drink, water or tea, while you wait for them to bring out your meal. You can choose from udon or soba (hot or cold) with various toppings/sauces. My favorites are the kagiage or mentaiko udon, cold in the summer and hot in the winter. Everything is made in house so you know the quality is top tier. I think it's the perfect light meal and you can grab dessert next door when you're done. Came here on my lunch break! There was not too much parking so I had to park streetside and walk a little bit, but soon enough found myself inside. I ordered the cold kitsune soba, took my number and found a seat. There is both countertop seating for single diners and also tables in arrangements of 2 to 4 seats. I think the cashier might have misheard me, because when I got my food, I think I ended up with udon instead of soba noodles. The udon was still pretty good and al dente, the green onions were cripsy and fresh, and the edamame side was nice. I do think that they need to update their menu prices on their website as I ended up paying more than I originially believed I was going to pay. They have a self-serve drink station for cold tea and water and also hot tea! Which was super nice! Loved that! So I decided to stop by and check it out. The onsite parking spaces were limited with only 5 spots, but there was plenty of street parking. Inside the décor was that of a casual eatery with seating for 40 guests. Their overhead menu showed a large selection of soba, udon, and rice dishes, but without the sushi and nigiri which are offered in their other store. For this visit, I ordered the Combo of Kakiage Hot Udon with the Side Order of Chicken Curry Rice. The food was ready in 10 minutes. Kakiage Udon: The thin style udon noodles were nicely al dente. The broth was clear and flavorful. The battered onion, carrot, and shrimp kakiage was perfectly seasoned and pleasantly crispy outside. Wakame seaweed and sliced green onion gave an extra flavor to the dish. Side Order of Curry Rice: The rice was perfectly cooked with soft and moisture texture. The velvety sauce was flavorful and with a kick of spiciness. The chicken pieces were soft but they could be a little more tender. The price was moderate and noodle portion was generous. I had this placed in my radar for a while and finally got the chance to stop by yesterday. Prior to my visit, I had read multiple reviews, and it seemed like a noteworthy place for soba! I visited on a Sunday, and street parking was a little challenging, but I managed to find a spot. I believe there's no designated parking spot for the restaurant. There was a queue of people waiting for their order and huge groups of people when I arrived. This made me realize that it's a popular spot! Finding a good place to sit was a little challenging. I ordered mentaiko oroshi cold and paid with card. Everything totaled to $19-20, which I found pricey for what it is (since soba is very typical in Japan). However, it is a specialty food here, so you can't really argue. One thing to note is that they do charge an extra fee if you pay with card. So if you want to save yourself 4%, you'd need to pay with cash. The portions look hefty in the photos, but they are much smaller than they look. I'd estimate around 400 calories? I can tell the store has history / been here for a while, which means they're likely very good at what they do! This has to be one of the best soba places I've had in LA so far. Cold Pork Shabu Shabu: 10/10 My eating partner got this and wow, spectacular. I thought it was geared for picky eaters, but wow. The rich sesame mixed with cumin and shiso, such an unexexpected flavor combination. It had flavors that reminded me of Chinese and Indian foods but with that subtle Japanese twist. The noodles are al dente and add to the whole nutty experience. The noodles are PHENOMENAL. A must get. Cold Mentai: 7.5/10 I love mentaiko, but this one didn't do it for me. The daikon oroshi and cold dashi really brought out the bitter fishy notes from the eggs. I appreciated the noodles and overall composition, but maybe my palate isn't sophisticated enough to enjoy these flavors yet. Beef Bowl: 6.5/10 Standard sort of gyudon situation. The exterior does a hell of a sales job. Tucked into Old Torrance, Ichimiann looks like the kind of place you hope has been doing one thing correctly for decades. Handmade noodles. Old wood. No unnecessary theater. I walked in expecting the sort of modest Japanese restaurant that makes you wonder why anyone bothers opening anything new. Then you get inside. There is old in the charming sense, where every worn surface feels earned. And then there is old in the neglected sense, where the room feels dim, tired and coated in the residue of a thousand lunches. Ichimiann lands much closer to the second. The cafeteria style ordering, self serve tea and tray return could have been part of its appeal, but the space has no real rhythm to it. You order, drift toward the back and eventually find yourself eating in a room that feels more institutional than intimate. The staff was pleasant and efficient. No complaint there. The soba itself was also good, properly textured, clean tasting and clearly better than the lifeless supermarket versions most people know. The problem is that "good soba" is carrying nearly the entire restaurant on its back. The portions are remarkably small for the price and every addition begins to feel like another minor financial penalty. By the time the tray reaches the table, you are looking at a modest serving of noodles in a tired room and wondering how the bill became so ambitious. Handmade or not, there was nothing on the plate that felt difficult enough, generous enough or memorable enough to justify it. That is the disappointment. Ichimiann presents itself like a surviving piece of old Torrance, but tradition alone is not hospitality and age alone is not character. The noodles are respectable. Nearly everything surrounding them needs considerably more care. I wanted to discover a neighborhood institution. What I found was an expensive bowl of decent soba in a restaurant that seems to believe its history is doing more work than it actually is. read more

They use a sesame broth with chicken and cucumber, and it's served cold. The noodles were umami but also nutty and slightly sweet. There is some chilli oil they serve with it if you would like some heat. They were incredible and I would definitely recommend them if you are looking to try something new. The soba was refreshing and paired well with the light and crunchy tempura. My partner got the unagi soba cold, and the unagi added a nice umami flavor to the broth. Big portion of eel as well! First review of 2026 starts with one of my favorite restaurants! I would place Ichimi Ann on my top 5... if not top 3?? favorite restaurants in LA. I've been to this location 4 or 5 times and the other location once. My fiancé and I usually get the same things every time we visit. My go-to has been mentaiko soba and natto tororo. Natto and grated Japanese yam isn't exactly everyone's favorite combo, but I love my traditional Japanese food and absolute love the sliminess of the two lol. Mentaiko soba is really tasty too and the cod adds a bit of spiciness, but with everything mixed together, it's a texture & flavor bomb. I have yet to try a hot soba/udon dish here but I just love cold soba too much. My fiancé and I usually get their combo each, which usually totals to about $30/pp, but the last time we had a salmon ikura bowl combo each, we got really full so we decided to behave and share a tempura don the next visit. I prefer the salmon ikura don over the tempura don, but my fiancé who loves tempura enjoyed it a lot. He tried their chicken curry soba for the first time on our last visit, which was a bit interesting since we both thought the soup was going to be a creamy curry base, but it was actually a mix of cold soba broth and curry. I did wish his bowl had a bit more chicken or toppings but overall, it was still delicious. I have noticed that our last 2 trips here, the soba seems to be on the really cold/frozen side. I did bite into a chunk of soba that was hard to separate as it was stuck/frozen(?) together. I love that they have a self serve tea station. They offer hot and cold and I usually opt for their hot tea even when I'm eating cold soba. Kind of helps wash everything down lol.
