The restaurant is small and cozy with efficient service. The ceviche mixto was fresh but needed more zest, flavor and seafood variety. It seemed like the pieces of fish used were limited to the "sushi scraps." I would personally skip the chicharon mixto al ajo; the sticky "brown" sauce was bland and the batter, thick and under-seasoned.

First time ever experiencing a place that serves both Peruvian food and sushi. The great thing is that while there are some pure Japanese and pure Peruvian dishes, most of the options are a fusion that I've never tried before. They have a sushi chef making the sushi right in front of you. The service is amazing, the servers are super nice, and very attentive. The ambiance is really chill, it's not too loud but still feels homely. I would definitely recommend coming here

SO good! We always get the katsu with green noodles (I forget what it's called!) and the lomo saltado. Their yellowtail and tuna sashimi appetizers are really good too!

I love Kotosh!!! It has been one of my go-to restaurants for years and I realized I have not left a review since 2014. The food is consistently great with their Peruvian and sushi fusion menu. I especially enjoy the jalea and the saltado mariscos. On the sushi side, the Halekulani Special roll is my favorite, though I have tried most of the other rolls and they are all solid. You should try the Spam roll from the kids menu. It is great for adults too. This is a spot I have chosen for special occasions, including celebrating both high school and college graduations, and it is also a place I come back to for lunch on a regular basis. It remains one of my favorite restaurants in the area.

We come here a lot! It is definitely our favorite restaurant in the area. Everything is always the best here. They did change their calamari recipe, they said, and we didn't really like it so I do hope they change it back. But everything else is always 5 stars!

Thank you Kotosh and their incredible staff for making this retirement dinner for my wife an excellent and memorable dining experience. Their were 17 of us, 2 unable to make it, but we had an incredible time. Food and service were top notch as always, thank you. The sushi rolls for appetizers were excellent but our favorite was thay spicy tuna crunch rolls, extremely good. Definitely recommend Kotosh for all family gatherings.

The food was really good. Very well made and very tasty. The green sauce is delicious. The service was very good as well. The restaurant has plenty of space for small to larger groups. Definitely a place I would eat again.

This spot nails Peruvian-Japanese fusion. My husband is religiously loyal to the Lomo Saltado--according to him, it's the holy grail: great flavor, hearty portion, and best of all, they bring an entire bottle of the green sauce to the table (none of that tiny cup, pay-extra nonsense). I usually go for the seafood fried rice--can't remember the name, but it's always delicious and generously portioned (hello, doggy bag). If you've got room for dessert, try the helado de lúcuma--a tropical Peruvian ice cream with a SLIGHTLY mochi-like texture and a flavor that's oddly addictive. We always go during the quieter hours, and the service is as sweet as the dessert.

We haven't been to Kotosh for a long time and decided to go for lunch. We usually have sushi but was in the mood for Peruvian food. Hubby wanted the potatoes with cheese sauce and plantains. I ordered the chaufa mariscos. Server was very friendly and attentive. First dish to arrive was the potatoes which my husband loved. Creamy sauce with a hard boiled egg . Plantains were next and it was nice and hot plus a generous portion. Ordered California roll which were filled with crab meat so they were large and delicious. My rice dish was last and had lots of different fish which gave it a delicious flavor. Food was top notch and so was the service.

Had an amazing dinner here last night. The service was great! We ordered a few appetizers including tiraditos de atún and yellowtail, pulpo al olivo, and calamari. As main dishes I had ceviche de pescado and my friend ordered lomo saltado w/ beef and shrimp. Everything was well prepared and fresh. Absolutely recommend for a casual but good quality Peruvian meal.

PERUVIAN SUSHI! This lovely restaurant is a great fusion of traditional Peruvian food and Japanese sushi. The service is fantastic, ambience is casual. I've been here a number of times but haven't been here in a while since I don't live near anymore but it's the same as before, DELICIOUS! Here is what we had this time: Lomo Saltado with Beef always a must! Arroz chaufa with chicken, so savory, and great with the addictive green sauce. We also had the Acevichado roll, machu piccu roll, and albacore tataki roll, they were all great and a unique fusion of Japanese and Peruvian. I recommend you come here and order family style so you can try more plates.

    Cebiche Mixto
    Sue N.

My friend and I happened to be in the Lomita area for lunch -- which is quite rare since we live pretty far away. Since we were nearby, we decided to finally stop by Kotosh Restaurant, a place I had heard great things about for a while. We ordered just the Cebiche Mixto and a glass of wine, because we supposed to eat lunch. Everything was wonderful. Our server was very kind and friendly. She mentioned that all the staff members are Peruvian Japanese / Japanese Peruvian (I wasn't sure which way she meant, but either way, that explains the great mix of cultures!). They all seem very friendly. My friend, who is originally from Peru, said the cebiche tasted just like the authentic ones back home, which is quite a compliment! The restaurant was very clean and comfortable -- not fancy, but cozy and welcoming. The prices were very reasonable, especially compared to similar Peruvian restaurants in West Los Angeles. I was really impressed. Next time, I'd love to try one of their main dishes and their modern-style sushi rolls. Highly recommended!

    Sudado Mixto
    Derek T.

There's good Peruvian food, there's good Japanese food, but have you ever had Peruvian-Japanese food? Kotosh offers just that. Okay, mostly Peruvian food is the jam since that's more limited in the area but here we go: The Sudado Mixto was a delicious mix of seafoods that just soothes the soul. You get hit with a nice hearty, savory sauce smell that you just gotta dish over rice or any carb you can get your hands on. I had to control myself lest I eat more than my dad. The Tallarin Verde is a favorite of mine personally, but did you know they serve it with chicken katsu here? Yeah, that juicy crunch of katsu mixed with the tonkatsu sauce and tallarin verde is a unique mix of Peruvian and Japanese done right. Loved the texture and flavors complementing each other. My mom got a chirashi bowl and said the seafood was all very fresh. Enough said. So there you go, Peruvian-Japanese food is an unusual combination but somehow it just works. Although the menu's a bit more like Peruvian and Japanese food rather than true fusion, but there are a few items that incorporate both elements into one dish so go and explore!

The restaurant is spotlessly clean, well-organized, and welcoming--everything feels fresh and well cared for. The food quality is outstanding. Every dish is packed with flavor, clearly made with high-quality ingredients, and tastes authentic and thoughtfully prepared. Nothing felt rushed or sloppy--each bite showed consistency and care. Whether it was the meats, sides, or sauces, everything was on point. What really elevates the experience, though, is the staff. Everyone was incredibly friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. They were happy to answer questions, made great recommendations, and made us feel comfortable the entire time. You can tell they truly care about their customers, not just the service. There are TVs inside and booths and tables around the restaurant. We ordered at the front but I think you can also sit and have your order taken at your table. The waitress was really nice and helpful. She brought out extra sauces we asked for, refilled our water often, and even turned on the ac for us when my MIL mentioned it was hot inside. We got a beef katsu plate, chicken katsu sandwich with fries, and a calamari app. The chicken katsu sandwich was my favorite with delicious crispy waffle fries. The chicken was thin and kept its crisp. It came with katsu sauce, pickles, and a slaw on the sandwich that made it moist and not too dry. It was really good and a bit messy. The beef katsu was like a hamburger breaded with panko. I was expecting more of a gyuKatsu but that's probably a bit too fancy for a place like this. I got it with the curry sauce which comes in either mild or spicy. I liked the freshness of the daikon and salad with the fried katsu patty. I wish the curry had some vegetables or something but overall I enjoyed the meal. The portions were a good size and it wasn't too expensive. I would definitely come back for another sandwich and maybe to try a sando sometime.

The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, but it has a really nice, cozy decor with cool Japanese characters on the walls. We went with their popular tempura combo paired with cold udon, and also grabbed a shrimp tempura roll. Everything was amazing! These guys absolutely know what they are doing when it comes to tempura, it's always perfectly light, crispy, and delicious. Worth the wait? I don't think so…read more After hearing so much hype about this place, I had to see what all the fuss was about. People talk about waiting 45 minutes to over an hour just to get a table, especially on weekends, so I decided to come during lunch instead. Luckily, the place was almost empty, which made for an easy visit. Going in, my expectations were high. Since I'm allergic to shrimp, I let the staff know and ordered the beef bowl and tempura combo instead. At around $20, I wasn't expecting cheap fast food, but I was expecting something that justified the price. The tempura was easily the highlight of the meal. It was light, crispy, and fried well, especially paired with the dipping sauce. If there's one reason I'd give this place any credit, it's the tempura sauce. The chicken tempura, however, was a different story. The coating was crispy, but the chicken itself was incredibly bland. It tasted like plain boiled chicken that happened to get dipped in tempura batter. The beef bowl was even more disappointing. Honestly, it reminded me of a Yoshinoya beef bowl--except it cost more than twice as much and came with a noticeably smaller portion. That's a comparison I never expected to make at a restaurant with this kind of reputation. The service didn't do much to elevate the experience either. Considering how slow it was during lunch, I expected a little more attentiveness, but it felt pretty average from start to finish. As for the atmosphere...it was fine. Nothing particularly memorable, nothing that made me think, "I need to come back." Maybe I ordered the wrong items. That's always possible. But based on this visit, I just don't understand the hype. The food was decent--not terrible--but nowhere near worth the long waits, the price, or the reputation it seems to have built. If you happen to be nearby and there's no line, sure, give it a try. But if you're planning to wait an hour because everyone says it's a must-visit, I honestly think you can skip it and won't feel like you missed out. Buyer please be aware.

For this visit, we ordered our regular items and they arrived in 10 minutes: Eboshi Mini Trio with Shio Ramen, Fried Rice and Gyoza: The fried rice was still top notch, with slightly firm texture, not too oily, and pleasantly seasoned. The Shio Ramen with its clear broth was nicely savory. The thin noodles were cooked perfectly, and the chashu pieces were tender. There were sliced pork pieces, shrimps, squids, cabbage, onions, snow peas and many more. The clear broth was quite savory and enriched by oil from sauteed ingredients. So people needed to squeeze by and then one guy asked if he could sit for a moment at my table. I said okay. But then I think he planned to stay at my table until finally my waiter moved him! There was a seat at one their tables the whole time. Then their waitress wedge herself with her back toward me in between the tables and I had to stop eating. Very disruptive and rude. Taking a while for the six people to order so I nudged her and I asked her to move and she seemed upset that I did that but didn't say anything no apology so it was very uncomfortable and I was rushing through my food so I burnt my tongue on the hot soup again even though I knew it was hot because I just wanted to get out of there. And then when I was done, I had to wait a while for the check and then they couldn't process the Apple Pay at the table so then I had to go to the front and wait for somebody to attend to me there overall this experience was not fun and stressful and I had got there right when they opened. I sure wish I had selected a different seat!! I wouldn't get the Nabeyaki soup again. It was really big and had a lot of end pieces of tough napa cabbage. There were two pieced of shitake mushroom and the standard thin fish cake slice. There was and egg in the soup and a three small chicken pieces. On the side were three small pieces of green bean and two tempura shrimp.
