    chicken katsu curry plate
    Kingston W.

I ordered the chicken katsu curry plate ($18.90, plus tax of $1.98) for the first time, today. Potatoes and carrots are in curry gravy, served over rice and chicken katsu. I suspect that the vegetables were pre-cooked, then set aside until needed. (Some of the smaller vegetable pieces had a constant temperature throughout; some of the larger potato chunks were cooler in the center than the exterior.) But that's ok, because the vegetables weren't overcooked and had an "al dente" texture. The white rice and vegetables have a neutral taste. The curry had just the right amount of salt and spice to add flavor to these elements without being "too much". The meal also came with a small salad. This was unexpected. But the side salad provided a palate cleanser in between bites of curry. In my younger years, I would have finished the whole plate. Nowadays, I eat until no longer hungry. All of this is to say that the serving size is more than adequate.

Good ole Teriyaki Chicken and Beef Special with cabbage salad and mac potato salad

Casual place... popular take out. Great value! Our usual Teriyaki Chicken and Beef is enough for two, maybe plus one child. The teriyaki wasn't too sweet and the beef was very tender. The cabbage ramen salad that it came with was very tasty. I preferred it over the Chinese chicken salad my MIL ordered. The mac salad was a good, a little bland. Parking in the lot but depending on what time you go, can fill up and you can park on the residential streets. (We did stop by to pick up a black sesame cream puff next door at Chantilly's!)

On a Sunday morning in early March, my brother drove my sister and I here for lunch. They opened at 11am and already there were people eating here. I ordered beef teriyaki with rice and California roll with soda. It has lot S of long tables and round tables. We didn't wait too long for our food. The plate has lots of rice and beef teriyaki which looks like beef jerky overcooked and dry, the California roll looked horrible with too much rice inside and badly rolled. My sister liked her chicken salad but her teriyaki chicken was dry too. It tastes better covered in sauce. Hence for the 2 stars. The only good thing about was free pickle ginger, clean bath rooms, Soda machine, and nice atmosphere.

This place is so good. Their shaved ice on a summer day is so refreshing and their flavors are great. Their Chicken Cutlet curry with veggies is solid and very flavorful. They have something for everybody that enters these doors and you come out satisfied and people come back cause it's good and comfort food as well. Their menu is BIG but a lot of great items for sure. Their parking is a bit limited at times when there's a rush but there is additional parking on street and on the other side of the shopping mall that it's in. The space is always clean and tidy and the customer service is great! The cooks are fast and efficient and hardworking for sure.

Decided to finally try the place I frequently pass by throughout the week! Stepping in the staff were welcoming and willing to express what their popular dishes are as a first timer. I ended up choosing the teriyaki steak and chicken combination plate. It comes with chicken salad and Mac salad. I HATED the Mac salad - I didn't like the texture or the flavor. I'm not sure what it was supposed to taste like but it wasn't seasoned and the creamy taste was not enjoyable either. The chicken salad on the other hand was delicious and they provided a good amount to accompany the proteins. The steak and chicken were super flavorful and also tender. I had enough to eat this meal twice and thoroughly enjoyed it. The ambiance is cool - I didn't eat inside the restaurant but from what I can tell it's a very clean and comfortable atmosphere.

I love Island Hut! The Chinese chicken salad is my favorite! The dressing is just the best! The service was so fast and the food is always great. Come hungry, or you will be taking leftovers home.

This is my second review!!! I came back to try two new plates! & Man Oh Man did it NOT!!! Disappoint! New plates I tried was Tuna poke Bowl & island fries!!! Tuna beats the salmon hands down better flavor and that avocado just blends in perfect like it turns in to this bomb cream with the Tuna and got dam it was Good! Moving on to the island fries! They were crispy and hot, cheese nice and melted I was not expecting all the different flavors punching me in the face all at once! It all just goes well together! Well made Island hut crew!!!! Vibes were good that day My family and I were well taking care of by the staff, very respectful young lady's. I got my two young daughter's ice cream, one got a vanilla scoop and to be honest it was very good! I will not leave next time without eating a scoop. They have a good selection of flavors! Now to the Main desert that my daughter wanted at first and I paid for and ended up eating it my self! The Hawaiian shaved ice! What can I say! It was well made. we got cherry and strawberry flavors. My 5year old picked flavors and well I enjoyed finishing all of it because after two spoons of it she decided she wanted a scoop of Vanilla. Please check this place out even if it's just for ice cream and fries!!! Enjoy and you welcome!

Back again, but this time, shared this experience with my girlfriend. Can confidently say she as well enjoyed her meal. We also grabbed the 50/50 fries with onion rings, which was a nice little app. She got the low carb teriyaki plate and i got the beef and salad combo, and they both hit the spot, with leftovers to be enjoyed later. Our server was patient and friendly, since it was my girlfriend's first time.

Well protected at Island Hut today.

Island Hut is always an option whenever I go to the Costco in Torrance since it's nearby. The food here is so ono(tasty, NOT oh no) and service is good. Much better than L&L or the chain Ono restaurant (which I think should change its name to NoNo). Island Hut has a nice variety of options and I've never had anything I've been disappointed with in the 4 or 5 previous visits. I really enjoy their Tonkatsu (pork cutlet) curry plate. The curry is much better than I've found at some other local Hawaiian restaurants. The portion was quite large as well. What amused me was the size of the chunks of carrots. Really BIG. Enough to make any screwy wabbit happy : ) The parking lot is rather smallish and the day my wife and I went to meet some friends, a large group of Sheriffs had gathered to eat. We lucked out and got the 1 remaining spot. At least we knew we weren't getting mugged or robbed that day. Definitely give this place a shot if you're into Hawaiian food. It's a solid choice in the South Bay.

Wow wow wow! I came here for the first time for lunch and I'm so glad I went! This place is easy to find since there's a big sign infront. Plenty of parking as well. There's also lots of seating inside so you can come in big groups too. I got the low carb beef and my so got the beef plate. The salad has chicken in it which was super tasty and more protein! I ate half and saved the other half for later since the portions are big. The onion rings and fries were fresh and perfectly crispy. If you're in the Lomita area I would highly recommend!

The chicken was all cut up not a whole chicken breast which I should have seen as a red flag. But I tried to enjoy it, thinking positive and enjoy my night. I finished the beer and ordered a small beer but I started feeling really dizzy during this time. And not from drinking. If you've ever been roofied you know this exact feeling. Things are moving slower. You're spinning. You don't have full control. And you could pass out at any second. Thankfully I got home but it continued in a shower I took to try and wake up, but that didn't work. On my sofa I passed out. And woke up the next day still not feeling good. Still needing to lay down and needing more sleep. Another night passed where I slept early. Like I was knocked out. And today, Friday I finally felt like it was all out of my system. And this all happened because I went to Slip. This is not a fluke. It was not an accident. It happened to me and it can happen to you too. It can happen anywhere maybe, or maybe not. But what's for sure is it happened to me there. If you're with Slip and you're reading this, do not try and make me an offer to return. I won't. Ever.

The interior is neat and clean. There are various types of seating (bar; table; booth; high-tops; communal), and plenty of screens to watch sports. On this occasion, I ordered the Tavern Fish & Chips ($22). It is described as "Alaskan cod coated in a tempura beer batter and served with French fries, tartar sauce and yuzu herb coleslaw". The positives of this dish are that it was prepared well. Both the fish and chips tasted good. The presentation was also nice; which leads to the coleslaw: The coleslaw tasted good, too; but I was surprised the serving was so spare. It's almost as if it was served just to optically balance the presentation in the basket. (See photo shared,) And while the price was not unreasonable, feel it's creeping towards expensive (relative to serving size). I'll attribute this to rising input costs. Staffing might be an issue during the lunchtime service. Service was okay, but they seemed to be understaffed. It's possible that most of their business is done after 5pm.
