This Barbecue Chicken is so good! Great grilled flavor.

I stopped at this local place on the way back from the market. I can honestly say that this was the best grilled/teriyaki chicken that I have had in a very long time. It had an excellent char-grill flavor, which comes from a great marinade and the right amount of heat on the grill. Excellent!

Eat like a local! When I'm craving Hawaiian food, this is one of my go to spots. It's really like you're eating in your families home type vibe. I really like their short ribs! The marinade on it is delicious and pairs really well with their perfectly cooked rice and the Mac salad. The portions are great as well, good for 2 meals! All in all, the service is friendly, laid back vibes, and yummy food, I am a fan! Happy eats, loves! ^_^

If you've ever been to Helena's in Oahu and are a fan of their short ribs, then stop what you're doing and come here now! Get their Pipi combo plate which has the short ribs and Dino ribs. This is by far the best Hawaiian short ribs and Dino ribs I've ever had in California. It's really up there with Helena's and some MAY say it's even better! I have to admit...they are NOT messing around with their short ribs and Dino ribs - definition of "tenderism" and action-packed with the flavors of Hawaii. Savor gracefully! Oh btw, shout-out to the nice girl taking our order and bringing our food! Supreme customer service! Mahalo!

Man, stopped at this Hawaiian spot and got the Momona Plate. The beef ribs were my first bite. You get all the juices, some fat and some tender beef. It's second to none. The Kalbi ribs were great as well, juicy, not too chewy and just the right flavor. The chicken was decent, nothing too crazy. The macaroni was next, savory not too over the top on taste and paired with the meats, it did just what it needed to. The rice had some green stuff on it, was decent. Overall the best Hawaiian food I've had. Beef Ribs: 8.9 Kalbi Ribs: 8.8 Hawaiian Chicken: 7.5 Macaroni: 8.4 Rice: 7.2

Came here around 6:20pm on a Tuesday to grab dinner because I did not want to cook. It was a 15 minute wait for the food. As I was waiting, they closed the door and changed the sign to closed, so they definitely don't stay open the entire time. (Be warned if you're trying to go right before 7!) Ordered: The momona. Hawaiian bbq chicken, kalbi ribs and beef ribs. Rice and macaroni Worst fork ever. No knife. Food was really fatty and didn't have enough rice. Really nothing special. I don't think I would come back if I was craving this type of food Note: there is a different between cash vs credit card price. Not sure the fee because it didn't say exactly what it was

Have driven by this place numerous times and decided to finally try it. Have to say, I was glad I did. They're known for their beef ribs but I was more interested in the kalbi and bbq chicken. Service was very friendly and accommodating, since it was my first time they let me modify one of their combos. So I basically got exactly what I wanted which was kalbi and bbq chicken. It was so good! I will definitely be returning especially to try their different loco mocos.

Two Beef Ribs and Two Short Ribs cut into 6 pieces and Mac salad. Falling off the bone, sweet marinade on both items, with the Short Rib a bit smokier. Tender and juicy and good Mac salad is always a bonus. Delicious! There are a couple tables set up if your dining in. However, most customers come in and order takeout. Prices are not too bad, but the owner mentioned price hike going up soon.

Finally tried this spot the other day! It reached all my expectations! The island beef ribs were so easy to eat! And the Big "K"ahuna special was sooooo good and hit the spot! It's a really really small spot but luckily we went after 1pm and ate outside to enjoy the nice breeze. Can't wait to try the other plates. We got our island food cravings met from this place! Mahalo!

The food was delicious, but my fave (not pictured because they were eaten so fast) were the beef ribs! They were tender, moist, flavorful and smokey. My hubby is a born and raised island boy and he says it "broke da mout". Joe served us and he was suppa nice! Shaka!

I can't even remember how I found this place, but when I did, I bookmarked it immediately, thinking I'm making a stop next time I'm around the area. And then forgot about it. And then! I had to run a few errands in this area, so I thought about trying a new place. When I saw pictures of the beef ribs, I stopped looking. It's a no frills place. There's a couple of tables for two inside and another set outside. Most people go here for takeout. THE MOMONA: My order. Those ribs were exactly how I hoped they'd be: flavor was on point and the meat was off the bone delicious! The teriyaki chicken was tender and frilled and seasoned well. The mac salad not only was delicious, it also served as a palate cleanser. THE KA MOA: Hubbers' choice. I didn't get to try any of it but he enjoyed his plate very much! SPAM MUSUBI: I had this as a snack way after I had my meal. They make it with less rice which I much prefer, so it was commensurate with the spam. They were tasty. SPICY MUSUBI: Hubbers' choice also. He said the spice level might be too high for me so I didn't bother having it. He liked this as well! FOOD: 5. We liked everything! SERVICE: 5. There was a HUGE snag here, but there was also immediate redemption. With my order, I also got a shrimp tempura musubi and a side of crab - both were missing when I got home. I called and was told they'll make it up and to come back through anytime. And what a coincidence, I had to go back around the area later that day anyway AND Hubbers and I loved the beef ribs so much, we wanted to get more. So upon my return, I put in an order of the Pipi (so I can try the short ribs) and they gave me my missing orders of shrimp tempura musubi and side order of crab. In addition to their apology, they gave me a couple of extra small pieces or ribs. SAHWEET! VALUE: 5. You get tons of food! PARKING: Private lot but gets full quickly. Street also available but limited. OVERALL: 5. I think I may have found my new favorite Hawaiian spot! There will be very many future visits!

I was craving monster ribs! And this place gave me just that!! Juicy Hawaiian ribs with creamy macaroni salad and rice. It was so delicious. Definitely shareable too. The service was amazing and the fit in the front was so kind. The chef gave us grilled onions and a jalapeño. Such a great first impression! I'm definitely coming back and raving about it to all my friends and family.

This is in a little food court, but a high quality food court. There are so many great options here! Theres a parking lot, and plenty of seating inside and outside. It's a causal spot, nice and clean with plenty of options. You place your order at the counter (you can use the ipad to order, except if you want the Fak'ed up fries, those you need to order with an employee). The shrimp - I could eat these forever. Holy toledos these are so good. I got the karaage chicken with the cheehoo teri sauce. The sauce is soooooo bomb. The chicken is perfectly cooked. And the red noon is the perfect addition of acidity. The Mac salad was great, stick to your ribs kinda good Now I ordered several other plates for my friend, including the teriyaki chicken, and the fak'ed up fries with shrimp and karaage chicken. He said the fak'ed up fries were fire, so good, he didn't even know that's exactly what he wanted. I have to come back to try them - I didn't know they were a thing bc they're not on the menu. But after I placed my original order I saw a video of the fak'ed up fries on their board and they looked so good, I had to buy them for him. I also got him the crispy spam musubi and the POGua Fresca, and he loved those. I will definitely DEFINITELY be back here!

There are a lot of new options and unfortunately no more chicken katsu. After my previous review, the owner actually reached out and offered to have me come back and try the food again, which I genuinely appreciated. I never took them up on the free food offer because I prefer to keep reviews honest, but the gesture still stood out to me. This time I ordered the 2-item combo with the honey sesame chicken karaage and kalua pork. The karaage was easily my favorite part of the meal. It was crispy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. I asked for all the sauces on the side and the green sauce paired really well with it. The kalua pork was tender, but a little sweeter than I personally prefer for traditional kalua pork, so I'd probably try a different protein next time instead. I also grabbed a spam musubi, but the portions were so generous that I didn't even get around to eating it until I got home later. While I still miss the old chicken katsu, I get that menus evolve, and overall this visit was a much better experience than my previous one.

I have been to Hawaii. A friend of mine won a give away by stuffing a ballot box at a grocery…read morestore, and then he gave me the plus one ticket. Was it a trip gotten via ill ways? Back then I did not think of that. And now that I do, I say the breeze of Hawaii would help anyone understand that what he did was a youth Indiscretion, like going for a swim in the cloak of darkness while only wearing a lei. Going to Back Home in Lahaina was not a trip back to the Big Island, I won't say that, but it was a moment of joy inspired heavily by a Hawaiian decor that both bordered on the tragically kitsch and the whimsically fun depending on where you stood or sat. But the true treasure of this Hawaiian micro-isle is their fare-- no doubt about that. After the meal my friend Conrad and I went to the front of the house, where they have the to go section. This is where the kitsch became most circus-y. Although, I did not clip everyhing, I did clip a make your own lei kit, hawaiian stickers, and other things that make the place feel like a tourist trap for Hawaiian hopefuls. For me, the tawdry lessened the impact of the Aloha I heard from the dining room. In sharp contrast, the main dining room had this mural of a whale coming out of deep blue water with Hawaiian florals on the edge of the land that was more transportive to the land where coconuts fall from palm trees and hula skirts are a must for every closet. The main room dining room also had these string lights and sphere paper lamps that made me feel like I was eating at a night market where I could see the stars of a Hawaiian skiy but it was both day time, and there was a roof above me. The food was the situation that needs to be address though, with great respect and admiration because almost every bite was supremely good. My friend Conrad and I first shared a Lahaina Platter- basically their appetizer platter or to be Hawaiian their pupu platter, and please do not go for the easy joke it is not that funny and really kind of base and gross, if the wrong person is making it. The must of the spot, unsurprisingly, is their Lahaina fried chicken. The chicken was crispy, flavorful, and kind of like karage chicken but different with the spices and flavors and ocean fronts of Hawaii. I know I did not make sense but I gotta believe that Hawaiian culture made the dish great and Hawaiian culture is partly define by waterfront property. My favorite things from the dish were the Lumpia which are often described as Filipino eggrolls. The pork meat was flavorful, the paper wrapping was on point, like wonderfully thin yet still structurally strong, not crispy, more firm with crisp. The Cinderella story of the day was the spam musubi. The saltiness of the seaweed was present but not in an overblown way, the sweetness of their teriyaki sauce carried savory notes that uplifted the sweet notes, in a wonderful way, their sticky rice was textbook fluffy and fabulous. Overall, I would nitpick flaws. And for this review I do not feel like finding the wrong cracks on a whole coconut skin. My main dish was their bbq grilled chicken plate. I could not finish everything at the restaurant. I had cold left overs at home and they hit the spot in this way that really earned my respect, because cold left overs still holding strong that is like seeing a shooting star while you enoy Mai Tais in a white beach---- living the improbable dream. What was best out of the bunch was their Lahaina chicken. And again, even though the fried goodness had withdrawn, the flavor and textured that remained was still, in a way, intact and in some ways optimal. I just shivered admitting that. I was happy with the food overall, and want to communicate that it was a strong showing for a place that sits within a strip mall. Do not just a shore by the lack of its crashing wave sounds. I also love the name of this place. Like I went back to Lahaina, has personality. Like it is a name that drips from the tongue even though it is long. Pluis, saying multiple times in a conversation makes the place feel important. Conrad had some cheesecake with jello and he loved it. I did not try it, but it was unique and I did not think such a dessert existed. The crust was walnut, I would have thought it would be Macadamia. I definetetly love this place and want to back again soon!

The friendly staff and the amazing interior was so welcoming alongside the well priced drinks with all different games on each TV made this place feel amazing. Once I started off with the spam musubi, I was surprised by how it was bland and un flavorful it was. Even though it had sauce on top it tasted like I just had rice with meat as it was lacking the seasoning. Our entrees arrived, which looked phenomenal, but was then again hit with blandness even though it was smothered in sauce. The burger was bland and the Mac salad tasted like mush. Maybe some changes to the sauce and adding more seasoning may help these amazing looking dishes as I wanted to enjoy them but sadly couldn't.

"Welcome to Gardena Bowl"…read more This was the greeting I got from the jolly, heavyset Hispanic guy working the counter at the Gardena Bowl Coffee Shop. He had such great energy and charisma - something that is missing in this cold and dark world. Gardena Bowl Coffee Shop is truly a hidden gem, especially for folks not from the South Bay area. It's an institution in South Bay and worth the visit for those who are fans of diners or Hawaiian food. Gardena Bowl Coffee Shop is a diner located inside a bowling alley, how cool is that?! The diner opens approximately one hour earlier (8 AM) before the bowling alley (opens at 9 AM), and you'll see some of the senior league members stopping by for their daily coffee. Their waitstaff never miss a beat; they will refill your coffee before you even ask, especially if you're sitting at the counter. The big fella, who I honestly wish I caught his name because he was such a jolly and kind man, gave me some recommendations. He told me to look for the shaka on the menu, as those items are popular dishes. He also provided some of his personal favorites. I decided to go with the Garlic Chicken, which was a healthy portion of crispy garlic chicken that came with a scoop of mac salad, broccoli covered in thousand island dressing, and a slice of an orange. I got a side of bacon and sausage fried rice, as someone on Yelp mentioned it was worth getting. I would probably skip the bacon and sausage next time as it's a protein and sodium overload, but it was definitely good. I think I should have opted for the Kimchi Bacon Fried Rice. There are several dishes I hope to try the next time I visit, such as the Loco Moco and Oxtail Soup. This is a legit Hawaiian-style diner. There's a reason they've been in business since 1945. I liked this spot so much I picked up a shirt to add to my collection. I can't wait to come back again soon!
