Tried J Sushi for the first time today as a pickup order with my coworkers since my job treated us to lunch, and wow -- we were impressed! It's only about 7 minutes from our office, so we wanted to try something new, and I'm glad we did. I ordered the 12-piece sashimi (salmon, tuna, and yellowtail), miso soup, and their newer crispy rice item with spicy tuna and avocado on crispy rice. The quality of the fish was fresh, flavorful, and honestly better than expected. The sashimi was definitely the standout for me -- fresh, clean cuts, and very satisfying. My coworker and I both agreed we'd absolutely come back. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because my crispy rice didn't come with the spicy mayo and eel sauce as listed, which would've made it even better. Since this was pickup, I also didn't get to experience the dine-in atmosphere, but based on food quality alone, they definitely made a strong first impression. Update: After having only good experiences at J Sushi, my family had become regular customers. We ordered online and picked up at least once a week. They knew the members of our household by sight when picking up. About a month ago, we placed our regular order online and picked up. My regular order was always the salmon lover's roll and a side of sushi rice. My spouse came home with the order. The minute I opened the box, the salmon smelled bad. Not wanting to risk food poisoning, I sent him back to the restaurant with the entire order to return the salmon lover's roll and request a refund. We live about eight minutes from the restaurant. His food was cooked (chicken teriyaki) so I figured he could reheat it. J Sushi took the bad rolls back and issued a refund, but only on the bad rolls. They asked him if he wanted to pay to keep his teriyaki. Now, I know not everyone will agree with my opinion here, but... if I owned the place, I would have issued a regular customer a refund on the whole order and let him keep the cooked teriyaki if he that's what he wanted. I wouldn't have made him pay for his now cool meal after having driven home with a bad order, then back to return it, then home again. It's a judgment call but I think the best way to run a restaurant is not to "nickel and dime" your customers. That's amateurish. If there's one thing customers can find, it's another place to eat. I've worked as a cook in a restaurant. I understand that things happen. I am also aware that some people are just unbelievable and will do something crazy for a free meal. However, I'd give a regular the courtesy of a full refund, especially if I gave them bad food when they'd given me repeat business without any prior issues. We haven't been back to J Sushi since that evening. That incident, if you'll forgive the pun, left a bad taste in my mouth. Will I go again? Maybe. Like I said, things happen. One instance doesn't mean their sushi is never to be trusted again. Please improve your customer service. Don't inconvenience your customers and expect them to return. read more

Solid cheap price point sushi. I ordered the Gold Dragon Roll, their take on a baked salmon roll, and a crunchy roll. The golden dragon was good, nothing crazy, maybe could've had the eel sauce on top (maybe it comes better prepared when ordered in restaurant - I ordered to-go). And the crunchy roll was nothing special, pretty much a California rolls with tempura flakes. Price point was great tho, total came out to about $23 for the two. read more

Quick service and great prices! I ordered the Salmon Lover Roll and my boyfriend ordered the Rainbow Roll. I liked that the offered a roll with just salmon and avocado. 6 to 11! Lol, here I am again with probably what my 3rd or 4th review as I really never am so moved that I feel the need to unless the service is so bad that it needs to be noted. Actually because prompted when logging on to provide this review I did leave a nice review for Seoul Billiards. It's a solid spot! Back to this one, why 6 to 11? It represents what was an easy 6 minute drive to a local sushi spot to now being extended to an 11+ minute drive to enjoy some sushi in another city. Not a long drive but... Anyway unlike my last food review 5 years ago I did not get to order any food the customer service was so bad. From the menu items it seemed cool but I will never know how good the food is as I will not be returning. The young lady's attitude taking the order, in my opinion was deplorable. Partially attentive in the beginning and went down hill from that point. I canceled what I did begin to order and left. I returned for the manager's contact info and she indicated that she had no way of contacting the manager and that he typically comes in on Tuesdays. At the beginning, she asked if I would be dining in or ordering takeout and I said I would be ordering for takeout. When I was ready I walked to the counter to place my order. She continued to stock the refrigerator out front and then when satisfied she came to the register for the order. I started the order with three items and commented I'd like another but this menu seemed heavy with California rolls of which I do not like. She indicted that one item I ordered had a California roll base and proceeded to show me the menu for an alternative. As I was at looking and reviewing the description of what she recommended, she became impatient asking me a couple of times if I needed more time? I finally just made a choice but asked her if she was in a hurry? She said yes, she was. She said the other customer (father and his boys) sitting were ready to order. These folks were sitting when I came in, and during my time of reviewing the menu initially as well as while she was stocking the refrigerator. It seems they were in the same posture when I walked to the register to place my order. She said she needed to get to them for their order. I let her know that she was in the midst of my order and providing me service at the moment. So I was the focus, or at least tried to share that fact anyway. I then made a rushed selection and asked her to place the order. She said she couldn't because I was blocking the POS system with the menu. ‍ She's the one who pulled the menu and placed it to show me options. Once I was done all that was next was to remove the menu and place it back where she got it from as we were both holding it at one point. She chose to be confrontational at this point with that remark. Then a back and forth started about her attitude and service. I let her know I was not satisfied and that the experience was not appreciated. Continued back and forth and shared that she was choosing to be a jackass. She said don't curse at her so I changed it to she was being a donkey. She told me I came in angry. I can only guess at her assessment and that it was because I just said I'd be ordering take out and nothing else as I studied the menu. Nonetheless, I never raised my voice and continued to try and explain to the young lady that her service approach was less than satisfactory. Her continued words were I'm sorry you feel that way and that she was not the problem basically. I told her did not want to speak to here any more that I'd be sure to Yelp my experience. The chef heard the continued exchange and tried to offer assistance. She stood in the way the conversation for a moment until I made it clear to him that I no longer wanted to chat with her and to have her excuse herself from our presence. She did walk away eventually and he tried to explain that she was the only one working out front. I said it didn't matter and that she needed to respectfully complete my transaction and not rush me as I had not been there long and the others had been sitting there undecided taking their time through a couple transactions while I was there. I mentioned that if they could not help me with the manager's contact info I would be taking my leave and I did so. Again due to her poor attitude, I did not get to experience the menu and just as well, because I found another restaurant and I drove a bit further. I received great service, good sushi and sashimi with an uplifting and lighter experience. The young men at the other establishment were pleasant and confident that once I had their food, I'd be back. They were not wrong, only it was not just the food but the service that has inspired my continued patronage. Hopefully, others who choose to patronize J Sushi - Carson will have a better experience. I just know I won't be back and the reality is it may not matter. As it is said "one monkey don't stop no show!!" read more

Some of the best sushi I've had. They originally mixed up my order and gave me the Mild Monkey Roll, which comes with imitation crab. I'm not a big fan of imitation crab, and since it was the end of the day, they told me to come back the next day for a replacement. When I returned, they gave me the Iron Monkey Roll with spicy tuna, and it was amazing. The Atlantic Dream was also incredibly good. There are many Sushi restaurants in South Bay but only few places are run by Japanese trained by strict Sushi masters in Japan, who only can tell fishes are fresh or not. I can tell, J sushi does not hire Japanese experts. Be careful with blue-skin fish like Macro which gets bad fast. Okay food, not great service. Ordered Cali roll lunch special and mochi ice cream. I'm pretty sure the ice cream was prepared first. By the time I opened the box, either whipped cream or ice cream was melted. I just had a puddle with two soggy pieces of mochi. I came on my lunch and wanted to place an order to go. After placing my order, I had a seat while I waited for it to come out. It was pretty empty. Another party came in and was sat at a table. I heard the host ask them if they would prefer to be at the booth. (Where I was clearly sitting and he didn't ask me ahead of time). The party preferred the booth, and the host just stared at me. I got up and moved to another table. Another almost 10 minutes later, a different party comes in and a separate host asked me to move to accommodate them. Food : 7.5/10 the crunch rolls are really good there. As for the gold dragon roll it's ehhh, maybe a 6/10. The salmon is pretty salty. The golden dragon roll is kinda like a baked salmon roll! At least that's what it looked like but it was salty. I don't think I've ever had sushi that was salty. Nonetheless the double crunchy roll was pretty good, it's definitely crunchy. The parking here is free and always available, it's a new spot that opened just last month, their daily deals are very very cool and affordable too. My wife and I went here and was greeted by the awesome Michelle on one of the Dragon Rolls' days and also, we got the Grand Opening sushi deal as well. When you go in, everyone's so warm and welcoming. The seats and booths are comfortable to where I just kick off my Matt Riddle "Bro" slides, sit with my legs crossed and just mellow outtttt , brrrro! For the drink, I got a water and a nice hot matcha tea that's apparently imported from Japan; you can taste the difference too because you don't need to add anything else to it while literally seeing the greenery. Food-wise, we also got the Power of the Sea Rolls since my sis Gladys and Sean got me into Eel many years ago and I've been a mark for it since. All of their sushi didn't taste salty at all as opposed to other places, the hot ones were warmly prepared and the cold ones tasted so damn fresh. The customer service was top notch because we were always checked on for any and everything. Thanks again to Michelle and the other female working! Around its building are also nice random bible passages for those who love the one they call Jesus while random 2000's R&B music is playing for a twang of generational nostalgic ambiance n' stuffs. I really like that they let you choose your base for the rolls! A friend and I found this spot in our quest to find an easy lunch spot between where we both live. South Bay Pavilion is easily accessible for both of us and we'd previously hit some of the chain restaurants. When my friend spotted this just across the street, we decided to try and it's been our new meeting spot. Food is always fresh, the menu has a good assortment of items and I like that they also have some rolls that are a bit different than you'd see elsewhere. It can be hopping for weekday lunch, but we recently did a Saturday and it was a touch quieter. Plenty of parking and easy freeway access. read more
